    This video shows how to replace a Wine Refrigerator Thermostat in a Kitchenaid, Whirlpool, Amana, Uline, etc (this approach should work for almost every wine refrigerator). This is an easy repair that anyone can do as long as you unplug the unit and know how to use a screwdriver! The cost of the replacement thermostat is much lower than replacing the entire refrigerator, so give it a try... :)

    Used this vid in 2016 to replace thermostat and now again in 2023 as the t-stat failed after 7 years. Still the best DIY resource on Y-tube!

    Thank you John. I have a U-Line Bev. Cooler and this was exactly like it. I ordered the part and it is fixed and running. I saved the ridiculous $300.00 the greedy repair guy was asking for. John please add "U-Line" to your video title. It helps all of us that are searching U-line with this exact problem.

    This video came up when I was searching for one on how to replace the thermostat for a U-Line wine refrigerator and the process is exactly the same. Thanks for posting the video as it made the process easy to understand. Only took about 15-20 minutes and my fridge is working again!

      That is exactly how I found this video. I also have a U-line. I am almost tempted to make a video myself and post it for everyone for FREE since the repair guy asked me to pay $289.00 + TAX to do this !!!

      Did you use a u-line thermostat? Or kitchenaid/whirlpool? What part #?

    Great video. I was able to manage the replacement without removing the racks or loosening the back plate. I was ver nervous about damaging the refrigerant tube. I loosened the two screws holding the retainer plate then dropped down the coil from the thermostat and cut it off and pulled the remaining tube out. Then I opened up the insulation and enlarged the hole in the back of the unit. I was then able to pass the new coil down and into the fridge and resecure it.

    John, I can't thank you enough for that post! Got back from vacation to find my wine fridge not working and did a quick search before I spent $1300 to replace it. Sure enough, it's a bad thermostat and if you're ever in the Sacramento region, dinner is on me!! Thanks-

    how do i know it's the thermostat that needs to be replaced and not the entire motor?

    • @JohnFixes
      @JohnFixes  8 лет назад

      My understanding (but I'm not an expert!):
      - If the compressor runs constantly but it doesn't cool down, then its probably the compressor.
      - If the compressor runs constantly and it DOES cool, then it's probably the thermostat.
      - If the compressor doesn't run, it can be either...
      Others can feel free to correct me as needed... thank you!

      The Thermostat has 2 wires connected to it. You can check the thermostat in 2 ways. First of all make sure the Wine Cooler is unplugged. Then disconnect the two wires going into the thermostat. If you have an Ohm meter you can check the connection between the terminals on the thermostat. If you set the thermostat to max cold there should be continuity (0 resistance). The second method is to take a clip lead and connect those 2 wires from the disconnected thermostat together. This essentially tells the compressor to run all the time. Plug the unit in and see if the compressor begins to run. If it does, you have a bad thermostat. If it does not run you most likely have a bad compressor. The thermostat is a relatively easy fix as shown by John's video. Keep in mind that those 2 wires you connected together are carrying 120 volts so be careful and only do this as a quick test.

      Thanks for this Video John. My thermostat arrived and I did the replacement and the Kitchenaid is back in service. Most difficult part was snaking the tube though the underside. My hands are big so I had to rig a coat hanger bent into a hook to pull the coil through to the back of the unit.

    So what happens if I leave the coil on the outside of the cooler instead of inside? Will the cooler turn into a refrigerator or a freezer? Lol

    • @JohnFixes
      @JohnFixes  2 года назад

      It'll just keep running so I'm going to guess it becomes a freezer! ;)
