- How often do you clean your shower head? In this video I'll show you the easiest and most effective way to clean it!!
From time to time it's important to give your shower head a good cleaning as it can become laced with limescale, calcium buildup and nasty gunk in general.
Here's what to do:
Fill up a small bag with distilled white vinegar, submerge the shower head down into the vinegar filled bag. Next, secure the bag in place with a rubber band. All the shower head to soak in the vinegar for 2 hours. This will give the vinegar time to loosen up and eat away all the mineral buildup.
After the 2 hours are over remove the bag, wash off the shower head and you're done. It should look as good as new!!

Now that’s funny. 😆
Lol 😂

Thank-you for demonstrating this so quickly and with easy visuals. I appreciate not sitting through long preludes and unnecessary dialogue.

much agreed!
Amen!
Ditto!!!!!!!
.
Vinegar is wonderful but be mindful it’s acid. I was soaking chrome Tub drain plug to get calcium off, forgot and left it on 24 hours and it removed chrome plating.
Haha ya Wally😆…..I just can’t stand the smell myself, it makes me retch🤢
Cool !
Looks like those are rubber nozzles, they should flex and let you get the limescale of by just rubbing your finger over them as well.
@@londonbluevideo Nah, it eats into it until it disintegrates….when left for a long time (rubber)
That's what I was thinking if it could happen. I thought if my chrome coated shower head would be damaged from letting it soak in vinegar. The acid cad damage the coating obviously. All the best !
A lot of modern shower heads have rubber nozzles on the ends, so you can simply reach up with your bare hand and sort of forcefully rub at it, like you're trying to wipe a stain off something. Do it while the shower is running. The limescale build up in the rubber nozzles will crumble and be expelled by the water.
If you let it get as bad as the one in the video of course you'll need to use chemicals, but if you just reach up with your hand every time you take a shower and make a point to give the showerhead a quick wipedown, you'll never have to.
YUP!
CLR does the same as the vinegar but in about 20 minutes. Also twist ties are probably easier than trying to double up a rubber band. Good video, no BS intro, no clickbait, no "like, share, and subscribe please, cuz I'm desperate for monies", just good quality advice. Thank you!
I personally don't want something as heavy CLR so i'll stick to vinegar
@@SuwinTzi With about a teaspoon of baking soda and just enough water to make a paste with an old tooth brush work it into the shower head. wait a few minutes and then use a cup with just enough vinegar to submerge the shower head. don't be startled if you see form come flowing over the cup. Hold it there for a minute or two. Then while flushing it clean scrub it with the bush. Slow draining sink? I do somewhat the same thing. This time add about a tablespoon of baking soda no need to wait then add about a 1/2 cup of vinegar. Then when it starts to fizzle down add some more vinegar. Wait a couple of minutes and flush with hot water. I have never try this on a clogged drain. You will be surprised at how well this works.
@@creamwobbly Tell me you enjoyed the 3 best years of your life in 8th grade without telling me.
does CLR or vinegar discolor the shower head?
I try to keep CLR out of my sewage treatment system, so the vinegar is a better solution for me.
Will this mess up the finish on fixtures
Its easier than this. Keep a nail brush in the shower cubicle and rub it over the head every couple of months. SEASY
Tip: wrap the elastic around the base of the faucet/ shower head a few times first, then you can stretch the band and tuck the baggie in.
And don’t use the same toothbrush you clean your teeth with
Make your kids stand there and hold it in place
@@skeezix8156 My bag kept falling off ...
You can also just pull out your faucet head and put it inside a container full of CLR or the white vinegar.
@@maggiemay5510 Use a zip-tie
Dont shower, no cleaning!..
Question for anyone: Will the Vinegar or CLR damage the Bronze or Painted finishes?
It may damage painted finishes, and will likely dissolve a bit of bronze (acid does that to metal), but the latter should be very negligible.
Thanks!@@xHadesStamps
No BS just getting to the point video! Thank you

Very good!!! Don't go away....❤
I also appreciate the “straight into it” approach, too many people rabbit on for ages before actually presenting the video subject. They like the sound of their own voices?
I use a little citric acid mixed with water instead. That also prevents the nasty smell of the vinegar...
It's also a good idea to remove all the aerator from your faucets and clean the screens if you ever need to turn the main water supply to the house off for any reason, and when you turn the water back on let it run a minute before putting the aerator back on to get the sediment out, you should notice an improvement in your water pressure .
I have used this method on our rental properties’ shower heads for 20 + years. What amazes me is that this guy=y had the smarts to monetize this old technique on RUclips. I have told many of my tenants about this over the years too. It works.. Just leave it overnight after your shower and remove the next time you shower….
If your showerhead screws off by hand easily, I would recommend removing it and setting it in a bowl of vinegar. It's what I do. Otherwise exact same process (no other modifications)
Remember to replace your evil younger brother's toothbrush in the bathroom so the little jerk doesn't know what you did with it. Tomorrow, the toilet....
Thank you! I was skeptical, but this worked like a charm for my kitchen faucet and both shower heads.
Happy to help
This has worked for me in the past, BUT is not working this time. Had it on for 3 hours, nothing, then over night for about 7, zip again. Sprayed with CLR and rubbed with toothbrush. Still no help. Is it time for a new shower head?
Done this for years, it works splendidly well! Thanks for the video.
🙂
never gets old
Bathroom window or mirror. Use water/vinegar and newspaper. Use the part of the newspaper with least print. No colored print.
The vinegar that you can find in "home stores" is twice as concentrated as the vinegar that you find at the grocery store.
Also the Heinz cleaning vinegar from Walmart is stronger , comes in a gallon jug. What a great idea this guy has , something so simple but it evades most.
Don’t forget goggles when doing the showerhead! When you go to scrub off the little leftover pieces, they will pop into your eyes. Been there done that.
Do what this guy suggests and use an old tooth brush to really clean the deposits out! Some models have flexible nozzle tips that also make it easier to break deposits loose. An old home repair but a good one.
An easier way for kitchen sinks is to fully extend the nozzle and place it inside a glass or measuring cup with vinegar. Use a chip clip or clothes pin and clamp it to the hose near the pipe.
Or just unclip the weight under the sink that holds the nozzle in place. Takes two seconds
I used the white vinegar on my tub because of the mineral deposits. It really worked. I closed the tub drain and poured in one gallon of white vinegar. Then I just barely dribbled cold water into the tub. By morning tub was full of water mixed with vinegar. I took a paper towel and wiped down the tub and all of the mineral deposits were gone. I will try your method on my shower head.
Vinegar will erode enamel tubs.
Over the years, I just unscrew the shower head, put it in a good-sized bowl and fill it with vinegar. Soak over night and clean the remnants off with a potato brush. Sometimes need to use a toothpick to clean one or two holes out. Thanks for your video.
The shower head gets cleaned, but just keep in mind the pipes inside are even worse.
That's what hard water does, unfortunately
I just put a huge baggie around my entire house, and soak the house in vinegar for 6 months
@@BrBill yeah, that will definitely do the trick..🙄
I do maintenance on them with the toothbrush (preferably firm) dipped in vinegar.
Why not use efferdent denture cleaner it works alot faster and no scrubbing needed.
This will never get old! You did a great job bringing this classic back to life!
Thank you!
I recently soaked a garden sprayer head in a small bucket of pure vinegar for three days. It did nothing to clean the nozzles. So I did a little research and discovered that the acidity of vinegar decreases over time, so maybe a nice, fresh bottle will do the trick.
That is correct. I would change it out with fresh vinegar.
In my experience, what works even better than vinegar (acetic acid) is citric acid, which is usually available in the canning section at the supermarket. I keep a bag of it in the pantry, and mix up a fresh batch (around 4-5 teaspoons per pint of water, which is a pretty strong solution) whenever something needs cleaning. Using hot water will increase its effectiveness. Unlike vinegar, it has no smell, and works great for cleaning bathroom tile, too. It's safe to use - just don't get it in your eyes, and rinse your hands well afterwards.
@@stevepreskitt283 Awesome! I'll give it a shot!
That vinegar must have been really old
This might work but if you use a product called CLR, it will only take 4 to 5 minutes. No I don't work for them I know this from experience.
Vinegar is wonderful, it’s non toxic, it cleans shower heads beautifully and is a great replacement for cleaning kitchen countertops instead of using windex
Soak the whole thing in 50/50 vinegar and water overnight
Subbed. To the point, quick, and no yada yada.
Welcome to the channel🙂
Vinegar is a fantastic cleaner, just never use it on natural stone, it will etch it.
Been using this method for 50 year's works great
Worked great at cleaning my shower head. Only problem, I smelled like a salad after the first couple of showers.
My best friend has one of those humongous rain shower heads, which can’t be moved or removed. The only thing that fits around it is a garbage bag. I couldn’t, after trying for 30 mins, get it to go around, and secure, with vinegar.
Maybe a ladder and a bucket? 🤔
Use the wife toothbrush
Great video, straight to the point! Thanks!
Happy to help!
You Can also just use a lemon, same result
Call this a coincidence but I was thinking about doing the same thing today to my shower
Soak time using household white vinegar will take a few days or more to dissolve those nasty calcified build-ups! Better yet, buy a new shower head!
Soak time is normally just over night nothing more.
Subscribed. I live in the hard water belt of Florida. This works just like your video demonstrated. Thanks for not unnecessarily stretching this to 10 minutes.
I wish I could give this video 5 stars like the old days. *****
Happy to help, welcome to the channel!!
I am so dumb!!! I am a regular descaler; but I never even considered using a plastic bag to sink the shower head into! Thanks man!!!
If you don't have a baggie, would a bag do just as well 🤔
You're all good, it's the same thing.
Shower head???
That ain't no SHOWER HEAD
You're just repeating what I already said
Nice job but vinegar smells terrible, which is why most bathroom anti-calc cleaners contain other acids, like citric acid, which works just as well and is much more pleasant to use.
Vinegar is pretty cheap tho
I would also suggest a water softener which goes a long way eliminating lime scale.
I just give the shower head a quick spray of Descaler once a week when I’m cleaning the bathroom.
vinegar, babyyyyy
Wait, what does this do to a chrome finish?
tip: this method only works to clean the flat surfaces on your showerhead the passages will still be blocked better tip: Go to Harbor Freight and get a welding torch tip cleaner and using the right size wire poke them clean one by one.
I just found a nail the size of the showerhead holes and use it.
very small drill bit does the same as welding torch clener.
Or just take it off and put in a dish just deep enough to cover rose, buy a spare and just swap them.
You can do a quick-result test first. just spray liberally with a mould clearing product typical in bathrooms, and see if 10 minutes sitting and then rinsing off doesn't do the trick.
PS - this is an absolute winner for stainless steel drains. Just coat liberally and 10 minutes later the gunk rinses off, and even the drain pipe can come up looking much better.
Thanks, the Molen head unscrews so no need to keep a baggie like that. Also, CLR does a great job. In addition to the head, the aerators likely need to be demineralized. I did all our faucets and the water pressure was vastly improved. Lastly, most Molen faucets have a proprietary way to remove the aerators, they require a special key. However, sink faucets like this one does not have a key that allows one to remove and clean the aerator. I found out from a neighbor that Molen will send out the kitchen sink faucet head and aerators for bathroom sinks for free!
How do you clean a really wide diameter rain fall shower head? I don’t know if there’s a large enough baggy for it.
Prob just a large container! =w=
Prob just a large container! =w= if you’re able to unscrew it 🤔
They do have those gallon zip lock baggies as well! :3
Need a water purifier example (Brita filter)
that mean the water u bath in is dirty.
User a filter completely eliminates cleaning, sense the water is actually clean through the filter.
No, you'd need a full-on water softener for that
If it’s building up all the gunk, you have bigger problems with your water I would get a whole filtration system for the whole home
Wouldn't the vinegar damage the chrome shower head? Or is it not strong enough to damage the metallic parts?
I clean my shower head with just a brush while I'm showering, works every time !!!
. *Same here, the rubber spouts just need a little bending.*
I've had a troublesome showerhead that I have to keep trying to clean, which does not work well. I can't believe and simple and easy your solution worked!
thanks for the testimony
Wouldn't vinegar rust the metal or at least damage it?
No
@@CleanWithConfidence ok, thanks. 👍
Great Video! Obviously, I'm overly excited about a simple, short and (somewhat) bland video on a subject that rarely comes to mind. But that's my point. You see, there's nothing complicated, expensive or frustrating with the outcome of your quick fix. It either works,
(it does) or it doesn't. No biggie. Hopefully you'll have more of these types of "remedies" around the house to help with my psyche. After all, a win is a win and I need all the points I can get. THANK YOU VIEWERS! It's also very helpful to get additional input and information that doesn't try to undermine the original video and its content. Thanks 😊 Happy New Year to ALL !🎉😊

So how to clean out pipes from build up? Dishwasher? Washing machine? Without disturbing the septic environment
Been doing this for 25 years but I use cleaning vinegar which is better and quicker. Regular white vinegar seems to not clean it up very well in my opinion.
I go to Walmart and buy a new shower head . 😊
I heard that is not a good idea to leave it in the bag filled with vinegar for overnight
You can leave it on for a couple hours instead if it worries you.
Easier way - put vinegar in spray bottle, hold a paper towel against the surface of the faucet head, spray the paper towel w the vinegar (it will stick to the head), and leave it be for 10 or 15 minutes and spray it again as it’s drying out.
Just love the way a bag is a 'baggie'. Love it. Same here - I have a doggie not a dog.
As long as it's not "doggo" or "furbaby"...🤢
Baggie is a brand name
Mine takes 10 minutes in kettle descalant. Piece of cake!
I put the bag around the shower head with the securing string loose. Then fill the bag and tighten. No spills.
Thanks much for your idea!

How about a shower panel? The showers attached to the panel so do I need to remove it all together to get it cleaned? Right now it’s step ladder cover my face with left over pandemic shields to go scrub 🤷♀️
Is there any reward or penalty for using stronger vinegar? It can be purchased at 15%, 30% or 45% acidity versus 5% for normal distilled white vinegar.
Yes, it's faster than 5%. I've done it with 4% successfully, but it's slow
I spent ages trying to clean our shower head, which only had a dribble of water coming through, but it turned out there was a blockage in the hose! D’oh!
Better to use Tri Sodium Phosphate sold as TSP. Way faster, less stinky.
Funny. I was thinking of doing this exact thing. Thanks for the proof of concept.
Happy to help!
If you shower/ sink faucet only has mold on it, and no scale, pour some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and wipe off the gunk.
Or you could just disassemble it and clean it properly 🤦♂️
Since when was a Bag called a Baggy.
I called it that
why not pull the hose down and soak it in a cup or bowl???
I think this cleaning tip was made to be universal. Not everyone has a faucet with the hose feature.
Dunno about yours, but mine retracts.
Shower, stupid.
They used a kitchen sink to demonstrate a technique for a shower head.
I'm going to try this. My shower 🚿 head makes an awful high pitched noise. This might eliminate the noise.
My shower head is fixed
Also, with the new handheld showerhead, if you want to get it done too you can stick the thing into the same solution without a cap. Need it. Okey-dokey. Bubble bubble. Hee hee
It worked great, but brushing my teeth afterwards wasn't very pleasant 🤔
I prefer to remove the whole thing. I don't have to reach up to scrub it, the cleaning solution gets all inside better, and, I don't have to use plastic bag.
*Hello! Mc Fly! That's on a pull out hose! You could a just pulled it out and placed it in a cup with vinegar in the sink.*
There is no pull out hose on a shower.
It works but 10pc cleaning vinegar works better
This technique also works for chlamydia
This doesn't always work. CLR does the same thing and even that doesn't work sometimes.
Calcium, limescale and of course..nasty gunk.
__
If you use your wife's toothbrush, maybe don't tell her.
i gogle my mouth with vinegar everyday.
My shower head the holes are in a rubber compound and you can just rub it with your finger and the scale falls right off.
How long did you not clean it just for RUclips content? Ew...
Why didn't you unscrew that aerator and replace it while you were there? You'd be surprised at the pressure you'd get out of that thing.
Thanks for not giving us the histories of vinegar and shower heads. 😂 Thumbs up!
I've been doing this for years, leave it on for 12 or more hours !
How to fix the dripping 3 shower diverter?it is dripping all 3 ways
