For anyone watching, for viral pink eye: remember some of the best things we can do is supportive--warm compresses and saline drops. Go to my SHORTS. tab to see a video on how to make a warm compress. When using warm compresses and saline drops, make sure to not cross-contaminate. This means, wash the sock used for the warm compress after use AND for the saline drops, make sure you dont use those same drops on someone else in the family to avoid spread!
Optometrist here! For viral pink eye (as well as allergic conjunctivitis), I actually often recommend cold compresses as they can be more relieving of discomfort. Alternatively, saline drops/artificial tears can be stored in the fridge to give a cooling effect when used.
@@bayleybrunck8237 Thank you! I should probably write EITHER as for some of my patients, cold did nothing and warmed helped. And vice versa. Weird I know, because I would imagine too that cool would be more soothing! Love this comment and happy its pinned with my original too!
I don't know what kind of immune support you're talking about. But there's no treatment that speeds up the resolution, viral pink eye unfortunately just takes time to clear up@@toniachin6176
Just came back from the hospital with my 3 year old daughter diagnosed with pink eye and ear infection... as soon as she goes to sleep first thing I do I look for your videos cause I knew you were going to have information for both 💕 thank you so much doctor!!!!!!
My first experience with pink eye started yesterday. My 1st grader was prescribed antibiotic drops, but she does have the constant yellow/green discharge weeping out. It came on very quickly. No fever, but she does have a sore throat, headaches and c/o “stuffed ears” she’s one dose away from 24 hours on the drops and the discharge has dissipated to nearly none, but she’s still swollen and red. Poor love bug. I’m worried about her toddler brother catching it too.
How long does someone stay at home for Viral pink eye? No longer than 10 days? Viral Pink eye is no longer contagious when you wake up without discharge/eyes stuck together? I think I'm tracking.
I think my kids might have bacterial pink eye. Is it common for the eyes to swell? They also have a cough and runny nose but no fever. The first day that I noticed anything, my oldest son woke up with one of his eye very swollen and it eventually went down throughout the day and I realized that his eye was red. The next day, my youngest woke up with one of his eyes swollen, it went down, they both had red eyes and discharge. And now my youngest son's other eye is swollen, lots of discharge and his eyes are stuck together when he wakes up. I thought it was getting better until now. I was seeing if I could handle it on my own because I don't have insurance but now I'm stressing.
It is common for some swelling with viral of bacterial but it shouldn't cause pain or worsen. You can compress (try cool or warm depending on what works best for comfort) and of course see the doc if doesn't improve or pain for kiddo!
Hi! I’ve had pink eye before, but I woke up with a crusted eye yesterday. It got goopy and sore and pink over the day, and this morning it’s swollen and very red and goopy. I’m scared because what if it dosent go away? We went to a clinic and they prescribed antibiotic ointment (that turns into liquid) and I’m not sure if it’s working it’s only been two days though. Please help❤
Usually with bacterial pink eye symptoms improve within 24-48 hours of starting antibiotic drops/ointments. If no improvement in that time or things are getting worse (increased redness/swelling around eye, pain, fever etc) I'd follow up with your clinician. Hope you feel better soon!
Nope, bacterial pink eye can’t cause viral pink eye since those are two totally different organisms, so if someone in a family got bacterial pink eye and another was diagnosed with viral pink eye they’d be unrelated and just coincidence that they were happening at the same time

I hope she's okay and happy to have these resources for all of you!
This was perfect timing! I work with TK, and we had an outbreak this week.
Yup! Im seeing a lot lately which worked out because I had planned this video two weeks ago and is coinciding with some viral pink eye coming around!
Super helpful - thank you!

So glad the antibiotic drops helped your little one! The swelling and redness should resolve shortly after as well. Hope everyone else stays healthy!
Thank you!
Beautiful lady

You need to fix the echo in your recording. It's difficult to hear you clearly.

Can bacterial pink eye in one person spread to another person but manifest as viral pink eye?
