      Not everyone wants to leave, there are really places here, especially in the suburbs, away from the big cities. I live a really nice little town north of San Francisco (in Mill Valley) and it's great. I was born and raised in Georgia and moved here when I was 15, but I prefer it here

      The top California state income tax is about 13%, most states have a flat or top income tax rate of about 5-10%. So while California’s top income tax rate is the highest, the difference across most states is less than 10%, pretty marginal overall, not a ripoff like you claim. And most of your taxes are federal income tax, which has nothing to do with California.

      @@robertopics right and income tax isn't as easy to evade as just having a good accountant, it's such a silly statrment as if a "good accountant" has some magical way of dodging a load of tax that isn't completely illegal. You speak as if accountants and lawyers are the same thing, the accountant doesn't make a case to the taxman as to why you shouldn't pay certain taxes. You are taxed on income at source if you are employed and if you are self employed etc sure there are strategies to help lower your tax burden which an accountant can help with but straight up avoiding paying income tax is illegal and there is no real way around that. As soon as stocks/investments are turned into liquid that can be used to spend you are taxed on it. End of the day if Elon musk one of the wealthiest people on the planet paid 11B$ in taxes then idgaf who your accountant is, you're paying. All that aside go ahead and start talking to people who pay substantial taxes, I don't care which side of the political spectrum they are on, every single person is attempting to lower their tax burden, EVERYONE.

      There's not that many people leaving as a percentage of the population. The population actually increased from the 2010 census to the 2020 census. The only states to decline in population were Mississippi, West Virginia, and Illinois
