I'm serious when I say this, I love how the DK Arcade machine is part of this level. The only thing I find odd about it is that Cranky (the titular kong that fought Mario in that) has no comments or interaction with it.
Interesting that a Factory level that is completely indoors, no trees to climb, no vines to swing, no lakes to swim, is one of the best levels (I consider it the best) in DK 64 😅
Well, theres more levels without vines or trees overall anyway LOL I mean 4 without trees and vines (5 if you count hideout helm), 3 with them (4 if you count dk isles)
Frantic Factory terrified me as a kid. It was the combination of the earie music along with the theme of killer toys. 22 years after first watching my brother play this game and I still have re-accruing nightmares about it.
It took me years to realize that each world theme is a "calm version" of the boss that resides there and it was Mad Jack's theme that helped with that realization. It's a great level that, while confusing at times, makes it feel enormous and wonderment. That Nintendo coin though was the hardest thing I ever had to do there and felt like a champ beating it. Felt like I could tackle the original arcade version with no problem (and yes, I found and played them).
This is where the game really picks up honestly. The game is done holding your hand and training you for all different types of challenges. Yet at the same time it’s a really fun world. The challenges aren’t too difficult except for the DK arcade game obviously. Every Kong having at least two unique abilities really brings the number of challenges you are going to see instead of limited abilities like the first two worlds. The music just adds to the already amazing world, but you can definitely get lost in it sometimes. I remember the first time I was trying to find snide and I had trouble just like you said in the video. We’re still in the early part of the game, so the difficulty hasn’t gotten too bad… Soon that will change.
This is my favorite level in the whole game. I love how massive it is and how you can get lost in it. The factory motif and closed quarters make it feel like you're infiltrating a place you're not supposed to be in a while, thwarting the Kremlin's plans. The glass windows giving you a peak of certain areas enticed you to keep exploring to find your way through the maze. This vibe especially hits home in the room with the DK arcade machine. It felt like the computer hacking scene in Mission Impossible, where you've infiltrated the base's central room and are working the machine to get a valuable collectible. The window leading to the testing area gave me the impression that I could get caught at any moment by the guards if I wasn't careful. This level is also hosts some strange implications. For starters, why do the Kremlings own a toy factory? Who are they building these toys for? They come to life and are deadly, so they can't be for kids, right? Is it a part of King K Rool's master plan to mass produce an army of killer toys to replace his useless minions? Or, they sell them to an unknown faction to help fund his army. It has to be. Why else would he be after the golden bananas if not their monetary value, too? Lastly, the whole level takes place indoors, making you wonder what the outside looks like. Where is this place located? The only glimpse we get from the outside world is that sky dome atop the alphabet tower. There's the moon and a starlit sky with no other skyscrapers in sight. So this has to be somewhere remote. But remember, there were also some monitors in Hideout Helm displaying the same moon along the blue testing screen you can find in Frantic Factory. So, is this even an actual location? Or some digital illusion concocted by the Kremlings?
Favorite level for sure! Though I'm in the minority that actually likes Gloomy Galleon as well. The only thing I *hate* is collecting the different individual bananas underwater because it's hard to tell what color they are sometimes. Also one of Chunky's balloons is glitched and just doesn't spawn sometimes. And I didn't know people hated Crystal Caves so much! The music and atmosphere alone is enough for me to enjoy it!
I replaying through Banjo Tooie for the first time in over a decade. Currently on Grunty Industries and all I can think is "This is basically a more confusing and less colorful Frantic Factory!" 😂 But really, I love pretty much everything about FF (except the arcade game of course)
This is my favorite world in DK 64. I loved the creepy atmosphere and the discombobulating directions. The feel of it gives you that you shouldn't be here. It's got great puzzles that you have to figure out and one of the best Tiny Kong races.
This has always been one of my favorite worlds. I think my #1 favorite might either have to be Frantic Factory or Creepy Castle. It's too close for me to be sure which I like more so I guess it might be a tie.
This level stood out to me the most in this game as it was a unique theme compared to some of the other levels in the game. When I first played this level as a kid, it was really intimidating both in atmosphere and navigation. It seemed like a huge difficulty spike from the first two worlds. I remember getting incredibly frustrated with some of the platforming challenges and especially the DK arcade machine. In fact, out of all the challenges in this level, the DK arcade machine challenges aggravated me the most! Mad Jack was definitely a memorable boss as well as he was much more intense to fight than the first two bosses where you just threw a barrel at them. I remember struggling against Mad Jack the first time I fought him, but I felt so satisfied when I finally brought him down! 😅
It really sticks out to worlds in other games at the time! We're used to seeing a snow world, water world, desert world. This one really takes the cake with its unique design!
I always headcanoned that Franic Factory is meant to be the Lower decks of the Blast-o-Matic itself, and it's meant to make you feel anxious being unable to gain access to the Inner workings and stop K rool's plan here and now it really puts the Kong's Goal at the forefront unable to Instantly Save the Island as it destruction literally Looms overhead
Recently replayed this game and this was one of my favourite parts. i mean sure i know where most of the stuff was so yeah routing sporadically was rather easy. Also Chunky Action lets go *-*
I liked this world a lot as a kid, even if I had no idea where I was going 90% of the time lol. But just wandering around was very enjoyable to me. And just like you, when I first got to this world I thought it was the last since you rescue the last Kong and it is located inside King K Rool's ship
My favorite and has held up over the years was stuck on the boss as a kid for 3 months out of me sucking as well as a bit of fear, actually beat gloomy galleon before it and when that big dude didn't do a damn thing when turning in the boss key for this level I was shocked lol
I have some strong opinions on this level, good and bad lol. The music is top notch, and makes it really easy to remember what areas are connected to each other (for the most part). I really love that rusty factory vibe it brings, and its one of the first maps i made screenshots for after my perfect dark revitalized wiki, its just super atmospheric. h o w e v e r. It really starts to be where my enjoyment of normal playthroughs start to waver. I think its a great showcase of how big they can make a world to show the player what to expect having all 5 kongs now accessible to everywhere in new worlds going forward. Its just super tedious to have to back track alot here, especially the giant factory machine. As a kid this was my most hated platforming segment, but as an adult who frequents randomizers its pretty easy now. I think out of all the maps this one is the one that has the most unique ideas made for it, especially for things that are only used here. My big gripe is how long it can take. its triple the time of japes first time through, and it just wears on you after awhile with how oppressive it can be. i def think the devs knew this too and thats why the give you galleon as well after key 2. even if galleon is the worst stage, it at least gives variety. Randomizers have made this the map i love exploring as my first or second map, as it feels more like im breaking in and sneaking around the factory and getting whatever i can instead of full on exploring it. later on i revisit it to give it a victory lap exploration. arcade cabinet can burn in purgatory
very solid argument! And I can agree to this, which is why I see this world being places semi - high on the tier list. It's a banger world overall, but definitely a few flaws
The music from the lobby to the stage is just chefs 😘. It also has that feeling of not wanting to go into the factory (factory workers relate) and with how complex the banana's are it actually feels like your solving tasks. We even have a break area with the RnD labs and the iconic DK Cabinet. And to finally cap the level off. MAD JACK. Grant was in his bag with that song. The fights simple yes but the anbiance goes crazy plus that creepy laugh too. I also want a K rool rug for my house. Thus entire stage is top tier. Even with the beaver bother (gotta have the suck somwhere)
This one is a solid level. My first experience with DK64 was a rental and the furthest along save file was at Frantic Factory and Gloomy Galleon. I was exploring Gloomy Galleon and my brother loved Frantic Factory. This was in addition to exploring Jungle Japes and Angry Aztec. The only other 3D platformers I'd played were Banjo Kazooie and Mario 64 at this point, with dabbling into the PC port of Gex. You are spot on with thoughts that it might be the final level, considering it's right on top of the rebuilt Crocodile Isle. I also think my brother loved the world because we were renting VHS of old horror movies like Puppet Master, Child's Play, and Demonic Toys, so it fit with the evil toy theme. I really liked Chunky's fight with the toy giant. That was one of my favourite fights in the game and wish it were replayable like Tiny's fight with the spider in Fungi Forest.
There's a pretty good reason Frantic Factory is ranked 2nd of 9 and is pretty much a 9/10 in my personal listing, and that is that it's pretty much one of the coolest worlds in DK64 The espionage feel, the sneaky music, the mazelike feel of navigating within the Krok world, the feeling that is a hostage rescue, it's all pretty good. You get the whole squad together and do your best to navigate throughout the place and get what you need. And yes, the compactor conveyor belt room is definitely one of the best locations in game, while Tiny's race is one of the best minigames. The platforming is challenging but nothing to worry about, and the boss is definitely the most interesting one. And headcanon, maybe K.Rool somehow _does_ have a heart and the toy making is for K.Lumsy; why else would R&D have new interesting toys and a scary asf toybox like Jack be in the reject pile? The only downside would be the arcade game; thankfully, recent emulations have mitigated a good bit of it with save states, but it's still a frustrating banana to get. Still, its a good rise back up from Angry Aztec before you go literally down to Gloomy Galleon
The reason why Frantic Factory is so puzzling to navigate is due to the fact that the layout is made to be non eucledian by the devs, meaning that if you take a certain path it will load the next one in front of you and unload the one behind you. Without it, the areas in the map would appear inside one another with inconsistencies. The characters also could teleport depending on their position, though I'm not sure
@@superjoebros64 I actually kind of like that level for that reason, I don't know how to explain well but it adds to the atmosphere of the area, where it's a complex factory you could easily get lost into by how vast it is. The general mysterious feel wouldn't be the same if the level had the same layout as others from this game in my opinion!
This level was one of my favorites. I also had troubles with the big tower fall off it many times. The Krobot's in the begin of the level were fun play with especially when jump up near time clock there's a pixel perfect spot where the Krobot's can see you and will run towards you and is there in the pixel perfect spot the can slide away from you when re-winding and what's more with other Krobot is the perfect position it'll cause the sliding Krobot to start going moving really fast around it while pushing itself and other away form you.
This is my favorite world, but I acknowledge that Castle is objectively better. It's my favorite to come back to because of Mad Jack, PTT and Chunky Kong.
This is a really fun level. I like how griddy and claustrophobic it is in places, epecially in those narrow hallways. I enjoy stuff like that in games. Reminds me of the dungeons in Daggerfall, weirdly enough.
I equally adore and despise this level, and that’s what keeps it fresh. I’m astonished that 8-9 year old me was able to navigate the platforming in this level. 33 year old me struggled a bit upon my first replay in decades, but now it feels manageable.
I'm always shocked when this is only the third level. It's so early on but has the grandiose and quality of a later level. Especially because it's right near the top of KRools tower.
Easily one of the best levels. Giant but not too confusing of a layout completely alien aesthetic to the other natural settings. Scary and memorable boss. Only flaw of the level is the level that comes after....
When I do this level I sort of go from upstairs to downstairs after freeing Chunky and getting the upgrades. Doing it this way it's hard to get lost or forget something (even if you don't really know the map) and makes the level very straightforward.
I don't mind the DK arcade game at all. as a kid, it was really tough. practically impossible. but nowadays, I look forward to that part. I find it fun and really not that difficult.
Spent a ton of time in here as a kid because I couldn’t figure out how to get past gloomy galleon. Luckily as a teenager I was able to beat the game with only a little bit of help from GameFAQs😂
Possibly THE best world in the game. Close second being japes. Also where the game begins to nose dive in quality only recovering at creepy castle. I remember being stuck YEARS in FF, from 9 to 12 lmao
Funny, revisiting this area as an adult and I had next to no issues with the production climb. Sure I fell a few times and the camera sucks but I appreciate it a lot more now.
@@superjoebros64 Maybe a chase, where you have to shoot targets/play music/ground pound to activate bridges as Mad Jack slowly gets closer, maybe it's a choice, shoot targets to deal damage to Mad Jack or ground pound to gain more distance?
The Donkey Kong's arcade mission also frustrated me as a kid, especially when trying to get that damn N64 coin. And don't get me started on the Rare coin in Cranky Kong's computer game. Luckily, I managed to get both of them when I was 13.
@@superjoebros64 Lol I’m pretty sure I made a long comment on your original ranking all the worlds in this game video. And I agreed with everything you said. Even though I personally love Crystal Caves. But understandable why people hate that one. I’m loving these videos about each one individually! Can’t wait for Fungi forest! My favorite world. I love Dk 64!
i hated it for a long time but after my 101% run i got to like it even more. Btw the boss in one of rares best, also the boss music is really great but armi dillo the 2nd music is still better
This world have one of my favorite parts to the game (My man Mad Jack is absolutely madness and sooooooo entertainment) And one of the most hate parts (The Nintendo coin lol) But the atmosfere of all level is so cool
Back then I assumed the reason an expansion pak was needed, was to fit this level in. The platforming in the production room was too difficult given the lag, bad camera and imprecise controls. The only game I've found worse for 3D platforming controls since then (that isn't an outright shitty game) was Burning Rangers.
Its creative fun and excellent st atmosphere I don't think its hard to exploring but i guess im cheating because i ecplored thos game so much ss toddler is basically 2nd home to me Only tedious banana is the arcade (not counting the first bonus barrel with the worst minigame ever) The ambience in the last part is supreme and i associate it with mad jack gatekeeping my kid self from being able to finish the game for so much time hardest boss in the game for little me
Screw that Donald Duck boss fight! I hated that each time I fell i had to start all over. Plus the camera wasn’t helping me . …. But I can’t get enough of lanky’s musical memory puzzle favorite one of the level
If I lived in that level, I probably would wear a outfit with a lot of fashion, but I will be an engineer girl with a big hammer and I would say welcome to huh my house😊
Hands down one of the best world! What are your thoughts on Frantic Factory?
My favorite level besides crystal caves love the music too
One of the best no doubt.
I'm serious when I say this, I love how the DK Arcade machine is part of this level. The only thing I find odd about it is that Cranky (the titular kong that fought Mario in that) has no comments or interaction with it.
Best world, 2nd worst non-repeating Golden Banana/collectible. And I could've sworn Beaver Bother was also in this world.
@@espurrseyes42I think it was. I remember the one with Lanky where you inflate being the Beaver Bother barrel
Interesting that a Factory level that is completely indoors, no trees to climb, no vines to swing, no lakes to swim, is one of the best levels (I consider it the best) in DK 64 😅
There's a few vines Diddy (I think) uses to get into a bonus barrel but otherwise yes it is interesting!
Great point, it's very limited in that sense! They had to come up with other unique ways for the world to work with the game
Well, theres more levels without vines or trees overall anyway LOL

totally agree! This world just throws you in the deep end. I guess literally lol, with Gloomy Galleon typically following 😂
Such a solid world
This is my favorite level in the whole game.

It's so interesting, I never experienced this Chunky balloon glitch. Only recently heard about it. So crazy.
For sure one of my favorite worlds in the game. The atmosphere is top notch and so fun to explore even if some parts of it can be annoying at times.

That'd be a great mini game to repeat too! Could be different kind of courses.
Frantic Factory's music doesn't make me think of a factory...it makes me think of a creepy old haunted village, around Halloween time.
I can kind of see that!
I remember that the Boss used to terrify me in my dreams as a kid. I freakin' love it now, tho
You're not alone!
I equally adore and despise this level, and that’s what keeps it fresh. I’m astonished that 8-9 year old me was able to navigate the platforming in this level. 33 year old me struggled a bit upon my first replay in decades, but now it feels manageable.
I completely feel that 😂 the platforms in the production room are rough. Kid me struggled the most with that.
My all time favourite level with such great music.
the music goes so hard here
@@superjoebros64 Ultra mega super hard
I'm always shocked when this is only the third level. It's so early on but has the grandiose and quality of a later level. Especially because it's right near the top of KRools tower.
honestly though! Great point. Almost feels like the 5th or 6th world when you compare it to JJ and AA
A vault to a pole? ...It's a pole vault, then!
So he does have SOME grace... if you lend him some.
😂 fair point!
still editing my dk64 halloween vid... love seeing these perspectives
This is really making me want to play this classic again. But just not getting the n64 out lol
nice 😂
Easily one of the best levels. Giant but not too confusing of a layout completely alien aesthetic to the other natural settings. Scary and memorable boss. Only flaw of the level is the level that comes after....
hahaha ssshhhh 😂 I agree, if it was ANY bigger, I think it would be too much.
When I do this level I sort of go from upstairs to downstairs after freeing Chunky and getting the upgrades. Doing it this way it's hard to get lost or forget something (even if you don't really know the map) and makes the level very straightforward.
that's a great method!
Ahh Frantic factory... my most played world because of that dang Nintendo coin
haha unfortunately accurate 😂
I don't mind the DK arcade game at all.
as a kid, it was really tough. practically impossible. but nowadays, I look forward to that part. I find it fun and really not that difficult.
I'm going to hand the controller to you at that part then 😂 I still really struggle with it
The new rumored DK 3D game has to have a factory level of some kind in it
yes! That'd be so cool
Spent a ton of time in here as a kid because I couldn’t figure out how to get past gloomy galleon. Luckily as a teenager I was able to beat the game with only a little bit of help from GameFAQs😂
GG really stumped me too. I was too spooked of the deep water.
Possibly THE best world in the game. Close second being japes. Also where the game begins to nose dive in quality only recovering at creepy castle. I remember being stuck YEARS in FF, from 9 to 12 lmao
this world goes so hard! Rare did great with this one
The Kremlins having a toy factory makes sense they’re all a bunch children. Down to there leader playing dress up.
haha you're not wrong 😂
Funny, revisiting this area as an adult and I had next to no issues with the production climb. Sure I fell a few times and the camera sucks but I appreciate it a lot more now.
I'm definitely way better at it today. But oof, kid me really struggled!
Mad Jack is such a cool character, I wish he got a rematch.
I don't know how they could change it up for a rematch but I would be so down for it haha
Luckily, I managed to get both of them when I was 13.
that N64 coin is brutal. I'm not a fan of it at all!
@@superjoebros64 I can't really blame you for that. Besides, I grew up with SNES.
It’s because of the DK arcade segment in this world that I didn’t beat the game for about 20 years
oof. Completely understandable too!
My favorite level as a kid
Rare was cookin' with this world haha
This is the world where the game really gets out of tutorial mode. I love Frantic Factory! (Minus the Dk arcade game. F that thing!)
Great way to put it! The game officially throws you in the deep end lol
Btw the boss in one of rares best, also the boss music is really great but armi dillo the 2nd music is still better
they really nailed it with the boss fight!
This world have one of my favorite parts to the game (My man Mad Jack is absolutely madness and sooooooo entertainment)
And one of the most hate parts (The Nintendo coin lol)
But the atmosfere of all level is so cool
so true haha. The highs are high and the lows are low.
Back then I assumed the reason an expansion pak was needed, was to fit this level in. The platforming in the production room was too difficult given the lag, bad camera and imprecise controls. The only game I've found worse for 3D platforming controls since then (that isn't an outright shitty game) was Burning Rangers.
gosh, honestly though 😂
Its creative fun and excellent st atmosphere
I don't think its hard to exploring but i guess im cheating because i ecplored thos game so much ss toddler is basically 2nd home to me
Only tedious banana is the arcade (not counting the first bonus barrel with the worst minigame ever)
The ambience in the last part is supreme and i associate it with mad jack gatekeeping my kid self from being able to finish the game for so much time hardest boss in the game for little me
the way that this boss fight was both challenging and terrifying haha. It really kept a lot of us from moving on
Best boss bgm
for sure! It's incredible.
This is a better factory level Rare made next to the one in Banjo-Tooie lol
The Kongs just keep winning 😂
my favorite level
absolute banger!
Screw that Donald Duck boss fight!
I hated that each time I fell i had to start all over.
Plus the camera wasn’t helping me .
….
But I can’t get enough of lanky’s musical memory puzzle favorite one of the level
it's a perfect mini game for Lanky too 😂
@ as for the Donky Kong arcade game. I can not get the Nintendo token.
But my husband got it in 2 tries XD
call me crazy but i prefer this over creepy castle.
I can respect that!
My second worst level in Donkey Kong 64. My most hated level? Gloomy Galleon. I DESPISE the slowdown and the lag in that specific level. It is AWFUL.
yeeaah, lag is a tough one!
If I lived in that level, I probably would wear a outfit with a lot of fashion, but I will be an engineer girl with a big hammer and I would say welcome to huh my house😊
😂
