Concerned about how your favorite passtime is depicted as a horror that will take over the world and desensitize the population to violence? Don't worry, that's what everyone has said about everything forever, such as how The Running Man depicts a future where TV still matters, and game shows are ultraviolent entertainment fed to the demanding masses, all while the corrupt government does their own shady stuff as well. It's fiction, I swear.

Here is Sub-Zero. Now, Plain-Zero. 😂😂
One of my favorites of all time.
And then Arnold went and to play Mr. Freeze.
Also this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_%26_Mr._Freeze:_SubZero :D
Near perfect over the top 80's Schwarzenegger fun. The host, the Stalkers, the brainwashed loons in the audience, all golden characters.
Kinda surprised this never got a comic book spin-off as far as I know.
On a sad note, Erland van Lidth (Dynamo) passed away shortly after the The Running Man was filmed. He seemed like a rather interesting and talented fellow.
He also Played the Baldy "Terror" in The Wanderers..... unrelated, but still, he did seem interesting...
Wasn’t he in “Stir Crazy”?
Erland reminded me of King Kong Bundy !👍💪😃
@@jaytrace1006 indeed he was. He had a great singing voice, which was a surprise in that scene in _Stir Crazy_ .
This is one of my favorites Arnold Schwarzenegger films. Seeing Richard Dawson play the villain in this is great.
YESS !
He looks like my childhood best friends grandad
Ahhh...
I like Jesse Ventura, and I’m very glad he’s one of the only smart people in the movie: He ain’t fighting Arnold Schwarzenegger, he wants to live!
He wanted to fight him hand to hand. He objected to the metal crap they put on him. Soooo does that make ventura smart by way of being dumb?
He grew a reverse mullet and questions 9/11
Every villain gets a one liner from Arnold, I love it. Its comedy gold.
"the future is just like today, only fucked up!" -Every dystopian novel/movie ever made
I love this movie, from the Fleetwood Mac cameo, (the lead singer is "Mic," the guy who disables the collars,) all the way to "What's th matter? Steroids make you deag?" Its just full of great dumb fun.
Also fun fact, the dance sequence was choreographed by Paula Abdul.
Mic was not the lead singer of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks was the lead singer.
The soldier in the helicopter next to Arnold is George P Wilbur, he was Michael Myers in HALLOWEEN 4 & 6, Also one of the audience is played by Lynne Marie Stuart aka Miss. Yvonne from Pee Wee's Playhouse
Facepalm Movie Reviews And Other Pointless Shit reallllyyy speaking of Halloween I've been waiting and asking for him to do that for years
Chris Alvarado, maybe one day he will.
Arnold: Today's secret word is "Die".
He was also Mr. Eds closest friend.
I remember actually meeting Gus Rethwisch (the guy who plays Buzzsaw) in Las Vegas a few years back. He sponsored a powerlifting competition I participated in. Really nice guy.
One of my favorite lines of all time in movies was when Arnold was basically like to Amber. "Well we could've been in Hawaii right now enjoying some time together but you went and fucked it all up."
Wow! Amber from Predator 2 is fucking hot here!
Kain VS Predator yea that ass in that outfit mmmm
Richard Dawson was amazing as Killian!!
"Shout it from the highest Gay Bar" Hahahahahaha.
Which makes no sense since it say steeple. While that's funny for a misheard lyric. I still heard steeple bit that's just me I guess
Yea its steeple
1: Captain Freedom wasn't saying he won't fight Richards. He was saying that he won't use the gimmicks. He wanted to take Richards on in proper combat.
2: Wow. Way to forget the subplot with Sven, the bodyguard. [Instructing Sven to throw Captain Freedom out of the control room] Killian: "What's the matter? Steroids make you deaf?! Get him out of here!" [Sven shrugs at CF, CF walks out]. [At the end of the movie, Sven walks up while Richards is confronting Killian. Killan expects Sven to fight Richards] Killian: "Sven? Would you like to have a 'little talk' with Mr Richards?" Sven: "Nah. I gots to score some steroids." [Sven walks off, leaving Killan to fend for himself].
3:51 When the apartment changed hands the new tenant didn't have the door's pass-code changed?
Most ironically, this movie actually gives a flattering protrayal of the actual modern media.
"....and remember... the future is just like today....only fuck'd up...."
It's surprisingly close to real life.
You guys are actually dumb the media isn't anywhere close to this bad. I'll definitely admit the media does have an political agenda but it's not homicidal you fuking imbeciles.
@@MF-LXRD You clearly don't know the huge impact that the media has in post war society.
Exploding billboards and all not withstanding.
I was never really interested in that movie, but it's really good in showing how TV works. Also all the beautiful legs of the women in that movie are very thought provoking as well.
6:16 too bad Arnold hasn't seen Kung Pow and learned how to escape a tiny net by reversing the recording.
I’ll always thumbs up a Kung POW reference.
I feel like winners of this “competition” are still executed on the beach.
Legend has it that if you show up to Decker's vids late at night on a bright, sunny day in the full moon and a thunderstorm, Decker himself will reply to your comment. With hair advice.
Dynamo looks like a bunch of light brights aha
Blinking LEDs was state of the art in late 1980s ... how fast time goes .
Pete Lind -I remember the commercial for it still
Eddi Hurta *"Hey lighthelm, hey Christmas tree!"*
It looks like he was somehow fitted with a bunch of those old nightbright sets! Anybody remember those?
@@ronaldshank7589 yes!
One thing i love about this movie is when you see the in movie advertisement for The Running Man game show, they use audio samples from the movie that havent happened yet in the movie, if you listen you will hear ambers scream reused from when she bumps into the dead bodies of running man winners. Theres other visual samples, like the scene with buzzsaw riding his bike when hes fighting ben richards. To memory theres more recycled footage during that ad, I havent watches this movie in a while but you could say ive watched it alot of times xD
Holy shit. That 2017 synopsis...
Schwartzbruder1 although this year's Running Man will be hosted by Steve Harvey.
The movie maker also did not take into account that by 2017 there would be cell phones !!! Duhh dumb movie people.. LMAO
they put a lot of truth in these fictional movies. the part about using tv to brainwash the masses especially. look at all these people running around in masks, ready to surrender their freedom, and line up for their poison injections, all because the news convinced them there's a major outbreak. people also believe they already created and began testing a vaccine in less than 6 months, they really have somehow entirely brainwashed the common sense out of people, they're just like mindless robots, programmed to believe and never question anything they're told.
@@Jack_80 Oh great another moron who thinks precautions to prevent a fatal pandemic are infringing his rights and to add a cherry on top is an anti-vaxxer, lol. Or are the 230,000 deaths a conspiracy? Morons like you are the sheep, believing your barely sentient orange Orangutan over actual scientists and medical professionals. Lol, please just stop proving how dumb you all are.
@@wiseguy01 people die every year, people get sick every year. the only difference since this all started is that now they're slapping a corona diagnosis on many ot them just to get indoctrinated masses into a panick and ready to do whatever they want them to.
Running Man was a great novel. Would be good to see a movie closer the the book.
Do John Carpenter's The Thing 1982 !!!
love that movie
Love seeing your reviews this often! Thanks for all your hard work!
Amanda Derrington well said!!
7:49 Oh DS, you're hilarious! And that voice!... But I actually clicked to hear about your "sweet can" (drool....).
this movie inspired one of my favorite midway game Smash TV.
Christopher Washington I loved them both!!!
Floridated water is dangerous for you Decker.
Yeah but he won't make you go crazy and launch all of our B-52s to drop nukes on the Soviet Union along with screwing Peter Sellers from winning an Oscar for best actor or best supporting actor all in the same movie.
@@Tigerfire75 Well, just as long as you don't start fighting in the War Room, you just can't fight in the War Room you know
Mom let me watch this as a kid. I named our golden retriever we had at the time after Amber lol
Decker, could your hairness please review 2012 "Smiley" movie with Shane Dawson after you get done with the almighty Schwarzenegger!
P.S: look out on Friday the 13th this week (someone is gonna try to steal you hair!)

I'm glad 2017 looks better on film then it did in real life
It's surprisingly close to real life.
@@ninjahombrepalito1721 Even more so NOW
This didn't age well 😅
the lawyer with the pen in his back
is the same actor that played Mrs Murphy's lawyer in
Robocop 2
Im sad the internet chose to watch Doug Walker and not you.
In a different timeline, buddy.
Decker, I said it before and I will say it again. You rule! Thanks for everything you do. It is greatly appreciated by myself and other loyal subscribers. Keep up the good work. It is fantastically noticeable. Its about time we have someone worth watching with a great personality (with the best hair). haha.
The chopper scene has shots from the 1976 King Kong.
When I hear the running man I think of Tom cruise running from his gay thoughts
Any time i see tom c. 🏃♂️😂
"Hey-Hey Richard, wait! it's Amber!"
"I KNOW!" *punch punch*
total lol.
Back in the olden days, I read the novella before I was aware of the movie. The two are not so similar. But one very amazing thing that you'd think would be a widely-known little pop culture factoid is this: In the book's ending, the protagonist pilots a passenger jet into the skyscraper housing the evil TV network and gameshow host, blowing them both up. Straight out of 9-11, but it is painted as a heroic act of defiance, or even redemption. So the suicide bomber is the good guy. Funny to think how unlikely it would be now to find a such a popular author lionizing that one specific action...
RUclips subtitles at 9:30
"I'm Allen Schwartz Anita" XD XD XD XD
I know we all came for Arnold, but honestly Richard Dawson gives the best performance here. He's such a great villain.
Right, as basically EVIL Richard Dawson, it's so great.
Hey there Decker, a promise from me, if I make it in my new job (meaning I don't get fired or break down under all that stress) I will rise my Patreon support for you once more, because you deserve it. Right now everything is fucking insane and your reviews help to entertain me and make me feel better so you deserve it and a big thank you for what your doing. Like the reviews, you know, I don't know what else you're doing a that's none of my business.
So did you get fired or burn that bitch to the ground or what?
Mentioning that Dynamo was in fact an opera singer. But fail to mention that the leader of the resistance is in fact Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac
if he wants to be sub zero, and his hole shtick is ice, him being plain zero means he's out of the freezing zone, and is now just a puddle of water.
Richard Dawson knew a thing or two about game shows and prison breaks. He did host a game show in his time. He also stared in a show where he was a hero that had to escape from the Nazis.
Love your reviews man! Just a suggestion, but maybe review some Michael Meyers (Holloween obviously) movies since its october? Or maybe Chucky? I don't know it just seems like the perfect time for some horror reviews. Not demanding though. Keep up the great work brotha!
This is one of the few films that could really be well remade I think, if done properly. Nothing cheesy or trite.
The way society is today, with Reality TV. The cynicism, almost lust for blood. It could be even darker now than it was then.
Two things; the gar bar lyrics cracked me up and microwave popcorn has the highest concentration of BPA’s of all processed foods once it’s cooked. DONT EAT IT!
Very entertaining review. I enjoyed having a late 1980's Erol's/Blockbuster video rental flashback thx to you!
the movie officially turns 30 today!
is it wrong that I want one of those running man onesies
Yes.
In UK they used to edit out. "Jesus Christ" Amber said when fireball came down. So we just got Ben saying "Guess again."
Now they don't bother
That is probably the worst one liner ive ever heard in a movie
Funny thing is, this movie came out just a couple of years before American Gladiators, and I'm sure some folks out there saw a certain similarity, though toned down drastically for TV audiences.
Arnold knows all about slipping in where he isn't supposed to be.
Great review! If you haven't read the novella by Bachman (SK's alter ego) then i HIGHLY recommend it: the movie has some broad similarities but the book is WAAAY more intense, hardcore, brutal, and has a better ending. Great to see you getting back to weekly uploads. :)
Thank you during Arnold Decker Shado that you reviewed The Running Man a great brutal violent futuristic science fiction action drama movie that has inspired copycats or similar movies including The Hunger Games, The Condemned, etc
16:10 😂😂😂😂 this is what ytp looks like with the terminator
Great Review again. Also, I always notice many typos in your final notes. I got them at first glance, so I am sure anyone could have seen. Keep up the good work.
They were as pretty close to predicting the 2020 Apocalypse in Los Angeles + every where
They was just 2 years off
Summer, eh? Well, to be fair, it at least still feels like Summer here.
HEY KILLIAN SUB ZERO...NOW PLAIN ZERO!
"shout it from the highest gay bar"
This film is also directed by Starsky himself Paul Michael Glaser.
Another awesome witty review from Decker, these reviews are always fun to watch.
damn it decker. I was looking for your review of this film yesterday before you uploaded it so I had to watch another channels review and now I wake up to find your review today.
I actually would like to see a "remake" of The Running Man.
Make it a Dark Action Comedy (Like Deadpool).
Have the Film about the obsession with Reality TV and the erosion of Liberty in the World for Security.
Keep it Violent and just have fun with the concept.
Even have fun shoving in a load of product placement and take the piss out of them having a lot of product placement. (Like that Sponsor scene in Waynes World but go bigger)
Go totally nuts with how absurd the Running Man concept is and If done right could be funny as hell.
81 degrees out today. Yep...still summer to me
Has there ever been a time when the news wasn't filled with lies?

The book was interesting. I can't remember it completely, but working from 30 year old memories, killian was a poor guy who's only way to make money was to join the running man game...the players weren't in a set or arena like in the movie, but in the real world and the contestants have to submit video's while "running" in order to get people to "sponsor" them and send supplies and whatnot......i think something happened to killians wife and that's about all I remember....like I said, 30+ years ago :)
There was a short story before King’s novella that involved viewers sponsoring the runners. In King’s novella, anyone who helps a runner is tortured and killed.
11:41 Speaking of Mortal Kombat, this line was referenced via intros featuring The Terminator and Cassie Cage.

You realize if you watch movies and stuff on RUclips that's technically still watching TV so them saying they haven't watched TV in years they mainly mean they haven't watch cable TV in years 🤷🏽♀️
"the future is just like today, only fucked up, so.......welcome to the future." this quote is fucking amazing.
He lost his head because the uplink code was not entered in yet.
gotta admit i love the last scene with the shirt you put in xD
Paula Abdul did the dance choreography
Love this movie, great review!
On a side note, you misspelled "surprise" in the end credit notes.
I prefer the summer of Freddy vs Jason
Since you're the spitting image of Frank Zappa, I'm surprised you didn't mention that his son, Dweezil, is in this.
I loved this movie as a kid, watched it ma y times. Another great review Decker, and the✊ like count rises!
There needs to be Summer or Winter of Full Moon Picture movies. Puppet Master would be a good start
question for every fan of this movie as well as for Decker Shado-Are we as the viewers supposed to conclude that Sven, Killians bodyguard, was Ben RIchard's brother who had been taken away for re-education?they share steroid addled bodytypes, accents, had similar facial traits, and their names rhymed...Ultimately, Sven also let Ben take out Killian...
Shout it from the highest steeple. 🤣
it's closer to winter than summer dude,,,
I don't know why but I really fancy some cheese popcorn right now
In one of the phantasm movies Reggie castrates one of the bad guys with a chainsaw

I would love to see summer of Kurt Russel. REVIEW Escape from L.a, Stargate, Breakdown, Bone Tomahawk, 3000 miles to Graceland, Captain Ron. TELL ME THATS NOT AN EPIC LIST
OMG I RECOGNIZE THAT MP5 AT 18:41! That's a GSG522 clone in .22LR, I totally have one of those! That is awesome :)
It's not objectively up there with Predator, Conan and the first two Terminators, but it's still one of my absolute favorite Arnold flicks, I fucking loved this since the first time I saw it in 2012 and I watch it a couple of times every year.
My favorite is Total Recall, btw.
And the sumo sized hockey player that inspired a Mortal Kombat.
And here's 2020
One of the various old dystopian movies that hunger games blatantly copied
Running Man is one of my top 10 80's movies.
Fun Fact: Running Man inspired Ed Boon to re-name Tundra to Sub-Zero!
