Everything Wrong With The Running Man

- After the sin bath we all took on Tuesday with 2012, we thought a little throwback fun and nostalgia was in order. Enter: The Running Man... a movie that is difficult not to like for anyone that grew up in the 80's. Still has sins, of course.
Next week: Two sins videos you guys have been pretty adamant about getting.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we recount next? Merch: teespring.com/stores/cinemasi... - Кино
I liked it when Arnie signed the contract on the guys back and then stabbed him saying, "Don't forget to send me a copy."
I looove yooo
best scene
I had a good laugh at that one.
the guys whimper was great
and the giant security guy escorting Arnold lets it happen too lol
One sin should be taken off for the best comeback to an Arnie one liner
"I'll be back"(death stare)
(Smiles)"Only in a rerun"
"Well that hit the spot."
I _always_ say that when people say to me 'I'll be back', and they never get it.
Pricks!
no matter what running man is still one of my favorite aronld Schwarzenegger's movies
Here’s sub zero now plane zero!
"Alright, I think the next kill will be made by...... Ben Richards"
Loved it as a kid, love it now. And yes it's rubbish, but it's amazing
@@PieceBoxHeid the running man, total recall... I remember every snow day we had off of school back then I was watching one of those movies
Good movie ever
Absolutely agree, 100%😅😅. I loved the running man, saw it in 1988 at the drive in, I just got my license and ran over a dog on the way.
The subtle humour with irony was hilarious, and it was action packed at the same time. I loved it 👍
That "plain zero" joke deserves a sin off just for being so glorious. Perfect delivery!
@EmperorJuliusCaesar What are you on about? Also I'm not american.
"It's a good thing we took care of Sub Zero"
"Yeah he was a real pain in the neck"
I didn't grow up in the 80's but I still love 80's action movies
"Don't touch that dial" is a gem tough.
A man of culture I see. Love Zappa
When I entered the coordinates of 45°03'00.0"N 119°05'00.0"W, it comes up with a spot just west of Dale, Oregon. *DING*
One of the greatest dystopian future set films ever made.
This is a masterpiece immho, and has a killer soundtrack. John parr (of st Elmo's fire fame) wrote and sang restless heart for this movie.
it's free on youtube now
The head explosions at the prison camp are because of explosive collars, not 'energy concentration'. There's even a scene later of Arnold's being disarmed and then safely disposed of.
An explosive collar would have taken out pretty much his entire upper body, not just the head.....
andrew beauchamp Fair enough, but that's a different sin XD
"If you are going to tell lies, tell lies no one can refute" - What quaint thinking we had in 2014
Robert Merritt that was the comment that I was going to respond to ...what idiot said something like that?? like the phoney Paris Massacre!!
Or 1984...
Read that exactly when he said it, first time I've done that too
"Nothing happened in Tienanmen Square."
ah yes
As dumb as this movie is, I would have taken one sin off, for shining a spotlight on how mass corporate electronic media is used to manipulate and control peoples perception of reality. Fake news and (un)reality TV were not exactly household words when this movie was made, but, looking at it now, I think it is far to say, it got that aspect of life in the 'future' fairly close. Even if that was not exactly the intent.
The use of technology to produce misinformation (ie deepfakes) has only become more and more relevant
Did you mean to say, more PREvelant? Because that works far better than relevant.....
Mass Corporate Media manipulates and controls people? What about tiny website that end up getting millions of bat shit crazy people to follow them?
That’s kind of the whole point. To start the conditioning early before it happens. 🥴
this movie was excellent. saw it in the theatre when I was 15 with my older political science major brother. I was entertained, he was blown away.
The only thing wrong with "Running Man" is that there isn't more "Running Man".
therrunning man films they copiedc this idea
@Sean Robison its called sleep deprevation, high, dyslexia or non-specified.
Only in a re-run.
correct
Yep
That mirror probably IS there just for that cool shot. That's a TV show after all, right?
Cinema Sins kept forgetting that it's a TV show. It's a gameshow, it was made for entertaining a crowd, so having mirrors and cameras and whatnot was there for the audience's, both home and studio, sake. Same with Dynamo singing opera and trying to run down Richards in the ATV; entertainment.
Also answers the question why there is a locker room full of half-naked people.
@@sabin1981, 2 years later, I can confirm that Cinema Sins conveniently 'forgets' a lot of things because they neede to pad out their videos with an extra dozen 'sins' that are just nitpicky BS.
How many times have you seen a vending machine with competing sodas in it? There's half a dozen just down the road from my house that have Coke and Pepsi products... 😂
@@Loccyster I'm also surprised that he didn't find anything racist in this, because he normally does.
"This is the worst passcode ever". He hasn't heard of 12345 then.
'12345?! That's the same combination I have on my luggage!'
+Annalise Lang 😂appreciate the spaceballs reference
+Annalise Lang that movie was the best XD
+angel of death Heck yes it was! Right next to the Princess Bride. I could watch those two movies over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. I have, actually.
nope ding
The biggest sin is that the rebels couldn't find the uplink because it was hidden in the game zone and no one ever goes out there. Oh, except the rebels who had a bloody base in the game zone!
Also, how did the show's producers came with that underground complex? It looks like a quite big city area -at least some km²- got covered under a ceiling, poor man's "Truman Show"-style. At least there are places which look like industries and construction sites (which could explain the fuel barrels and, with some stretching, the flares). But for which purpose? It would be very expensive for the TV station buying such a huge area for an once-on-a-week show... unless it's a State channel and the Government had expropriated a war-torn area. Who knows?
I love the fact that the game area, satellite uplink and the rebel base are within 3 minutes of walking distance with each other 😀
The collars were explosive, the fence didn't "concentrate it's energy" to blow up their heads. If you left the ring, pop.
Yeah, I was confused how he didn't understand that little detail.
@@HoloceneNamesake he does that a lot 😝
Watching this in 2017, I can very well say that this movie is an accurate representation of our current society.
Except that The Running Man isn't a real game show...damn it.
@@ninjabearpress2574: No, it isn't... but re-watching it a decade later made me think if they didn't took the concept of a "murderous game with stylized executioners", toned it down and created "American Gladiators"!
"Dude, I won! You owe me $1,000!"
"No, you bet on Zub-Zero! It was Sub-Zero that won!"
The passcode at the beginning didn't work because the bad guys were using similar computers to keep the forcefield on. As soon as they were dead it worked right away. Totally logically consistent and not a sin.
Another thing that was strange was how Arnie was able to have a shower, shave and change of clothes despite the fact that the apartment was occupied by a young woman living by herself.
It's fun to watch old movies about the future, our present, and see how wildly off they were. Bonus sin: everyone in this movie shoots from the hip.
ahahha dude your that who like does the god stuff and blow it out the water, i didnt know you were subscribed to CinemaSins
HEY GUYS - There's a RUclips-star visiting!! *runs to get bible for a signature*
Magnus Nygaard LOLZ
Magnus Nygaard It's an odd thing, isn't it? Like bumping into Ben Kingsley shopping at your local supermarket.
The BOOK was very accurate. The movie had NOTHING in common with the book, except a couple of names and the fact there was a game show. In the book, there was no framed policeman, no rebellion, no arena, no hunters, and so on.
The mirror in the tube WAS there specifically for the shot, since that shot was what the television producers broadcast to the audience. It gives an angle both up and down the tube so the audience could see it coming and going with a single camera instead of two.
I've always thought it was loop around tunnel and it just happened at just speed. 🤔
A sin off for Richard Dawson's brilliant performance...as himself practically. Still great though.
Doesn't that just mean it was a good casting though?
@@Duckulator Oh, he's great.
I would say a more sinister evil version of himself, like his evil twin or something
I spit my coffee out when he said the line about the lighting guy doing his job even though he can see the world of running man crushing down around him. LOL
Professionals have standards!
3:51 - "Are there other stalkers waiting their turn in the unlikely event that the other guy fails?"
This is exactly what is shown in the movie.
None of them were in the locker room though, there were only a handful of them in the show
But schwarzenegger didnt play yet... so no sense in having the stalkers wait their turn. And wouldnt they be shitless scared if a firsr con ever kills a stalker
Everything Wrong With Escape Plan? PLEASE? I NEED TO SEE THIS! I lost a few of my jimmies watching it!!!
THEY NEED TO DO THIS!
NYC has hundreds of hi-def screens on the street, in public, 24/7 without anything calamitous happening to them. They're all integrated into our public wifi system.
Personally, I think you should have taken off a sin for every epic one liner that Arnie delivers.
YES! He was on fire with the one-liners here!!
I lost it at "suit made of light brights" XD
0:40 The only thing is I think the security system (that was still active) triggered the collar to explode when it detects it's outside the perimeter, not like it concentrated its energy into exploding the guy's head.
Also, Running Man > Hunger Games
*****
Good Burger > Hunger Games. At least it has food in it.
ytubeanon "The only thing is I think the security system (that was still active) triggered the collar to explode when it detects it's outside the perimeter, not like it concentrated its energy into exploding the guy's head." That's exactly what they mention in the movie around that part too! I don't see how there was a misunderstanding about that.
***** Yeah, I know right? Hunger Games just keeps a person wanting more, and feeling as if they ate air sandwiches. At least you know you'll get a good burger with Good Burger. :P
Since I first saw this movie as a kid up until watching this video I always thought those tunnels just had really sharp corners. I never once thought that it was mirrors. Mind blown.
Witman, Price, Hadad, love the way they identify the bodies in the same order they were announced before. The mirror is there so you can decide if you want to purchase the photo at the bottom
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah! But, seriously, Mr./Miss Azraelle up there killed the riddle: it's there for the show's filming, as thwie desce t throufh the tunnel is what's being broadcasted to tbe audience.
i love my childhood tv classics
A simpler time
That plain zero thing is one of my favorite lines in cinema.
Dynamo was an actual opera singer.
The more you know.
He died the same year this was released aged 34 of a heart attack
And the leader of The Baldies.
I love coming back to this video just for the 6:00 mark
Such a badass nostalgic line
It wasn't the hat and sunglasses that fooled the airport security. It was that shirt that blinded them to who he was.
Amber - Im going to throw up all over you
Ben - Go ahead, wont show on this shirt
for all its flaws and cheezyness, this movie is still better than the maze runner movies they put out today.
back then they at least cared enough to make a semi-cohesive script, even the modern remakes of these movies are terrible
c'mon dude - that's two different things. those Maze Runner movies are actually good. your opinions don't effect it's high box office selling.
Doing well in the box office doesn't make a film automatically good.
This is a book adaptation m8. So sorry.
Let's just say it is loosely based on a book by King. Very loosely. Like, they have the same title and the protagonist has the same name, and that's pretty much it.
The book was actually a much better story.
Watching this in 2019 is so jarring, he talks so calmly in this..
No matter how many times I've seen this flick I never noticed buttons 10, 11, and 12 on that number pad. Good job.
2:37 If we've learned anything of late, having the ability to refute lies certainly doesn't keep the government from telling them.
Or stop men from becoming president.
At the ending:
"Subzero!"
*Actual Subzero from Mortal Kombat shows up*
LOL!
WOW, YOU WATCHED THE VIDEO TOO?
@1:34 he’s an ANTI fire worker. Meaning he stops firefighters or delays their progress. If you took time you’d see his hobby’s are arson and pyromania
Is that a nod to Fahrenheit 451?
"Coming thru a side door like Contra or Double Dragon!" Gold.
I always laughed that the security guards were running in and mowing down unarmed civies that were running away, *completely ignoring* Arnold and his armed crew that were firing at them. Haha!
Maybe they wanted to get their kill/death ratio up
There is one sin that should come off the counter. For all Arnold's great "I'll be back" lines. Dawkins is the only one to have an awesomely witty rejoinder. "Only in a rerun." That's worth one sin off the clock, no?
it's exactly those sins you pointed out that make this movie brilliant
Good future prediction with Arnie using the "Infonet" to purchase airline tickets.
Everything wrong with “Running Man”: not enough Captain Freedom.
I wondered what exercises were in the Captain Freedom workout? Neck snapping? leg breaking? 🤔😂
@@PaulANUBIS1 haha! Love it!
I agree with this comment wholeheartedly. I wanted to see what absurd outfit they gave him. Haha
Still want so badly to see a EWW: Mr and Mrs Smith. I just would love to see you rip that movie apart for all it's horrible things.
That movie rips itself apart
In the book this is based on the runner can travel anywhere in the world, the entire population of the earth are looking for them, and the hunters are actual hunters and not just gladiators. That sounds like a vastly superior concept for a movie, and the movie people had it right in front of them. Why the hell would they change it to "bossfight in a cave"?
budget reasons
Yeah, the book is fucking awesome. Specially that sense of being on the run for days and days. I wouldn't mind to to see a remake of this movie with the actual story from the Bachman book.
Manuel Brown Wasn't it written by Sephen King using a pseudonym?
yes Bachman is King! Great Book by the way...
It went through like four directors before settling on the dude from Starsky and Hutch (not even kidding). But one of them was the director of Rambo 2 and the other one who had an actual great vision was fired for going like 8 million over budget the first week. I’m still impressed it turned out as well as it actually did.
This is Gene Wood speaking for The Running Man
A Mark Goodson Bill Todman production
That was a very enjoyable video. I actually love how Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Bond become great mavens when it comes to delivering one-liners after the kill.
No 'sin' for every time Richards repeatedly refuses to aim down the sights of any gun he fires. He just fucking has to fire from the hip every time, even when it's clear he's taking his time to aim with more accuracy at longer range shots.
Still, every bullet hits even when firing on full auto.
Nah....that's just a built-in ability for every 80's action movie star EVER, it would be extremely redundant to mention, like saying a round circle.
ZanathKariashi But then how are the cheesy one-liners a sin?
Didnt u see Terminator. Arnold has a self aiming system. Duh
I got to meet Arnold at a movie screening for Sabotage in San Francisco I had him sign my DVD copy of the Running Man.
The book is amazing. The Runners have the whole of ‘Murica to run through!
Killian's bodyguard also starred with Arnold in the first Conan movie (he was one of Thulsa Doom's lieutenants, the one with the giant maul).
One more Sin:
-- 'Richard Dawson isn't kissing anyone in this scene'
You’re totally correct! I knew there was something off about his performance!
The sad thing is America's love of violence, guns, extreme punishment, and reality TV makes this concept much more believable than a computer nerd who doesn't know what Star Trek is. Even if that nerd does live in the future.
Either you have never been to the U.S., or you are so blinded by prejudice that you are literally blinded by it.
TOASTEngineer Ah, he was so blinded that he was LITERALLY blinded. Good one, you burned him so bad that you literally burned him. Seriously, actually, literally, Mohammad Ali.
TOASTEngineer
Even though the person is mostly right.
Diamond Tiara trajan74 TOASTEngineer
I'll give you the reality tv one; thought that's mostly driven by the absurdly low cost of production of reality tv, but I know very few other Americans who enjoy actual violence or favor extreme punishment. This is a stereotype based mostly on our T.V./movies and videogames-- not the actual people or their opinions.
Just because we enjoy action movies and FPS's doesn't mean we carry .45's, throw people on death row for the fun of it, or just start fights for shits and giggles. Yes, there are people like that, but they're a tiny minority that unfortunately gets a lot of attention; because face it, showing that Americans are as normal as anyone else would be boring and the stereotype gets much more attention.
Diamond Tiara
No. No he isn't. Seriously.
I still watch this movie. 🥰
Wait, what happened to "if they have computers which can generate a fight scene you cannot tell from real life, why bother doing a live show after all?"
Anti Fire Worker might just be the most hillarious movie made-up job ever :)
One thing they got right in this movie was when Arnold buys a couple of plane tickets from the home computer, years before e-commerce was possible. That ranks up there with the Wink Martindale "internet" concept video form the 1960s.
kev3d the cameras were also apparently wireless, too, because he ripped one off of its pole and then: fully expected it to consider it to continue working and it actually did
About the mirrors: I always thought of it that there were cameras down there so the audience could see the sliding of the culprits, then a mirror for a cool shot would make totally sense.
"Why the fuck is there a mirror down here!? Is it so they could get this cool shot?"
Yes, it's an entertainment show, remember. It would totally make sense for them to put a mirror there for a cool shot.
Played the sin "ding" when retracting a sin rather than the reverse un-sin "ding"
*ding*
Deven Eckersell
I thought I was the only one that noticed. 😆🤣😂
2 Governors beating each other up in a fist fight that's how politics should be done.
Ha!
Yes yes and yes
That would solve so many problems.
Looks like how its done nowadays.
What are the odds we would both see this 5 year old comment on the same day.
Even when I saw this movie back in the day I wondered who was filming when Arnold fights the guys in the helicopter. You even see an angle of him getting a gun butt to the face from HIS perspective. HOW? Not only that, but the same shot shows up in the finale for the reveal that the host was in on the frame job.
That Jesse the Governor Ventura cut at the end was awesome. Thanks for the video.
3:17 - "Why the fu*k is a mirror down here? Is it so they can get this cool shot?" - Of course, it's bloody televised!
I love these videos but as an aspiring amateur screenwriter... I gotta say... these videos make me work twice as hard trying to avoid any mistakes. If ever I'm lucky enough to see one of my screenplays made into a film, I dread the thought of these guys tearing it to shreds... lol! xD
I love these videos. So short and to the point. Love it.
One of My favorite movies to rewatch of all time
Surprised there was no mention of Arny's "I'll be back!"
Thought the same thing. Also thought it would be mentioned for when he says "I told you I'd be back" later.
The Hunger Games clip near the end makes me realize how much better the movies would have been if they actually focused on the Hunger Games.
dudey. you are 2 freakin funny. i wish i could just hit a buzzer with my thumb everytime u strike gold. this is clearly all you, i thought it was a team of writers, maybe a few pals, whatever, not even halfway thru yet, consider your channel a early birthday gift to me. week away, laughing my neck off
Dude, the final minute of these is pure genius! Love it!
This is definitely one of the best channels on youtube!
yes i was waiting for that family feud reference
When this movie came out I was SO hyped to see it! Any new Swartzenegger movie was at the top of the action must-see list. Looking back, the tech concepts for the future is hilarious, but at least Dawson got to use a cell... Sort of. I do have fun messing with the youngsters and their kids when they come over trying to use a rotary phone.
I liked how they showed footage from later parts on in the movie on the promotional ads running at the start of the film
The amount of time trying to avoid the 30 second ad > Time of 30 second ad.
Thats why we Humans created Adblock to battle this Problem, even if some people dont like that.
DieHardjagged yeah but on mobile we're screwed
DieHardjagged And when you use adblock the channel doesn't get any money. For many big youtubers, this is their job, and you are a.) not giving the creators money, thus making them less willing to do their work b.) not supporting the channel to make the things you enjoy.
I Edison
i wish ads here were less annoying and aggresive. i agree with your point about youtube income this way yet i never ever bought anything they advertise here. and i definitely whould not. the products i use on a daily basis dont need ads and if i'll be in need of a new, for example, phone ill make some search on specs by myself. for now youtube (and internet as well) is a burning christmas three in hell without adblock. no, thanks.
pro100watcher Ads are designed to catch the less than 1% of the population who will buy anything you tell them to. By making them harder to get rid of, that section of the population will not know how to say no.
So Arnold didn't always have an unintelligible accent. He's actually pretty understandable here. It seems like the longer his career went, the more his accent became a parody of itself.
hes always been understandable its just that 'Saturday night live' took the piss and it has became the meme we know today
Yeah, like he went to sleep repeatedly listening to himself from his movies saying "Get to da choppa." Honestly out of how long he's been in Hollywood with his best friends being Stallone and Willis, his accent is a put on, a show. Anyone with that time frame of being around different people would lose at least 75% of their accent. 40 years around Americans and you still sound Austrian as fuck? I call bullshit on that.
Jay Tidwell Oh, it can happen. If you don't want to learn how to pronounce correctly. There are people who are content with just learning the language but don't go beyond learning proper pronunciation. FUCK, there are Americans born and raised who don't know how to speak coherently! So, yes, it can happen.
Darren Z - Arnold has said his accent is his trademark and he'll never get rid of it.
Come on guys, it is not that easy. I am considered perfectly bilingual (French and English Canada) and work in an English environnement and been speaking English fluently for over 10 years and still it takes two sentences for anyone to tell English is my second language. :O)
Yes, killing helpless, trapped Dynamo is different than when he was in a chainsaw fight ;)
The waiting in the dark with a Light Bright suit comment made me laugh so hard. Good one.
Underrated Classic , even through it wasn't really accurate to the Stephen King Novel , for what it was it was still a pretty good film , I love Arnold for his one liners :D
I thought this was based off a video game called the running man
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodmi2286 It's based off the novel The Running Man by Richard Bachman. This was King's other pen name. While I really enjoy this movie the novel is ten times better.
@LᗩᑎDO LᗩᑎD Didn't they have to take that out as it was so far from the novel?
@@tasselchassit7707 Most Stephen King books get butchered as movies sadly. Look at the Dark Tower, for instance.
they basically threw book away. This was cheaper to produce. Someone should make it right.
cant wait for some Cadre Cola in 2017 when I sit down and watch the Running Man TV show.
Howd that turn out for you?
+20 sins, because Richards never picks up the Stalkers weapons, like a magic chainsaw, razor hokey stick, flip dynamos car over, buzz saws dirt bike
Your channel is awesome, keep it up
Wait, the security system was actually meant to just activate an explosive in the collar. It doesn't just use energy. Now sure, getting *just* the head to blow up might not be the easiest task, but could possibly be accomplished by using shaped charges.
Oh and also, the reason the code didn't work I think was because the other guy at the other computer was blocking it in some fashion. Don't know why that would be possible, but there's that.
Buzzsaw wasn't helpless, Dynamo was trapped and unable to do anything. That was the point :)
I get that you gotta stretch sometimes to get as many "wrongs" as possible, just try to think them over a bit more.
Fireball looked pretty helpless when Ben threw a flair at him though.
Most of these sins seem to just be products of their time, and not being able to predict what we'd have 30 years later lol
Well the sunglasses and hat part is ridiculous. Lol
@@bern9642 It's a ridiculous movie. Not a single part of it was supposed to be well thought out, it was supposed to be cheesy, stupid, action.
@@Tanstaafl_74 Still 10,000 times better than the hunger games
That's actually pretty good considering how many sins you guys give other movies. Also... that mirror is there... for the cool shot, what you said the first time you sinned it.
The film was based on a Steven King short story under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. And all I remember from it is the hero fly's a vehicle into Killian at the end and has his stomach intestines hanging out.
I remember the uplink code. 18, 24, 61, B, 17, 17-4. I promise didn't google. Watched it 100 times.
Sin on Cinemasins: Only the first scene of the movie is in 2017, the rest of the movie is in 2019.
Then I guess I should watch it now.
Damn, I didn't see your post before I made mine. Nice catch 👍
The book the movie is based about is actually insanely good and legit dope. But I love the movie for the goofy villains with their own little quirks.
They missed the opportunity with the spoofs at the end. They should’ve had Donkey Kong music over Richard’s throwing barrels at Fireball
Sin: Cinema Sins doesn't understand the difference between East and West. 45 degrees North, 119 degrees West puts you in Oregon, just outside Umatilla National Forest. 45N, 119E is in China.
+rmsgrey this
+rmsgrey Tomato, potato, Oregon, China.
+Erich M
And there is Baker city nearby :-)
People are so used to decimal degrees these days, they would probably think minutes and seconds are a unit of time only.
Umm did that "Anti Fire Worker's" list of hobbies include arson and pyromania!? WTF!?
I saw that too. So maybe fireworker is a fireman.
+Cody Hines i know a few firefighters that are pyros.
Scott DelleFave
Well that's just counter-intuitive.
+Cody Hines Not necessarily. Being a pyromaniac can be harmful if you don't get your fix of fire but firefighters deal with it quite often therefore they feel no need to start extra fires.
Dim Light
except starting fires is what arson is
Ventura is actually known as one of the best governors of Minnesota. He did a lot of good things when it came to infrastructure and his tax plan was well liked. He was a much better governor than Arnold.
Lmao I love the break down its hilarious! Still one of my favorite movies of all time!!
