    • @kernowcapers6199
      @kernowcapers6199 3 года назад +7

      @@ChelseaMae Definitely. A lot can be recycled these days but that still uses energy. Most of it is unnecessary and the things are usually cheaper without the plastic too.

    • @IntuitivDesigns0
      @IntuitivDesigns0 2 года назад +4

      I was thinking this same thing. Half of my energy food shopping is spent trying to find the option with the least amount of plastic. It can be very stressful. This is one of the many reasons why I am constantly calling my local and federal legislatures and pushing them to ban single-use plastic and stop drilling for oil. I think people often forget that it's not just plastic straws and bags that are the problem.

    • @SerrasVictoria
      @SerrasVictoria 2 года назад

      @@IntuitivDesigns0 I live in a city that has legally banned single-use plastic bags. However, many businesses still use them, because (apparently) no one actually enforces the law. It's beyond infuriating!

      I go with “the same place YOU do” and depending on who is asking and what their follow up question is, I finish with some version of:
      - “amino acids, the body breaks down proteins and does what it needs to do, it’s not stupid or picky - it doesn’t care if the leucine came from someone else’s muscle or a bean”
      OR
      - “I just cut out the middle-man (cow, pig, whomever)”

    Great tips! I recently discovered I can keep bagged, chopped greens (spinach, kale, collard greens, etc.) in the freezer and just cook the amount I want. Then I just put the bag back in the freezer. It seems like something small, but now my greens don't get slimy and I don't end up wasting any.

    I batch my steel cut oats (2 cups steel cut oats, 4cups almond milk, 3 cups of water, 1 tab cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla extract. Instapot on manual for 25 mins)
    So easy for my hubby to reheat and to add cinnamon apples and I get breakky in bed. Lasts about a week in the fridge. Also make a batch of cashew cream to add to pasta, tacos, veggies.To make fast baked potatoes or wedges, zap 2 large potatoes in the microwave for 5-8mins then chuck them in the oven for 20 mins or using tongs cut in half then wedge toss in a bowl with 1 tab olive oil, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper, then air fry or oven for 20 mins. I also have a wooden box on the counter next to my stove in easy reach with all the basics that I need all the time like salt, pepper, olive oil, sesame oil,oil sprayer, rice vinegar, maple syrup, tamari, oyster mushroom sauce, red wine and my herbs & spices are in a drawer next to my stove (lying on their side, in alphabetical order so it’s easy to find what I’m looking for, large jars labelled on top ) Hope this helps❤️✨🌱

    Chia is a good source of Omega 3s too, and no grinding. One question I ask when I get someone asking me about the protein, is, "Did you know that there is protein, fat, and Carbs, in all vegis... in different amounts. I didn't know that. When I knew that I could get all I needed from a plant based diet, I was all in." They are pretty much stunned, because they assume the only way to get nutrition is to eat meat and take vitamins. When they say, you eat like a bird or a rabbit. I say, " or a cow?"

    Great hacks-thank you! One of my best hacks is for making smoothies. it is so time consuming to take out all the fruits and veggies, wash, cut and blend-what a process! I find myself not making them-too much work in the morning. I went to a new juice bar in town and they mentioned they had frozen smoothie bags- they prep all the ingredients for 1 smoothie and freeze it. you just take bag out of the freezer and blend!! Genius! Now, once every 2 weeks, I prep 14 bags and its a great grab n go in the a.m.!

    I’m not vegan or vegetarian, but I am diabetic. And I am currently trying to put my diabetes into remission and your videos are helping me so much! I’ve always loved raw carrots, raw cauliflower and raw mushrooms, so I’ve found they are super easy (because I’m a lazy cook) for snacking. I’m now a complete fan of sweet potatoes and I have bought a microwave steamer!
    Cutting out carbs, sugars and processed food was so daunting, I am not a cook, I don’t enjoy cooking, so I really didn’t know what I could eat (easily) without becoming a gourmet chef. But this is just great for me. Thank you! 😁

    My food allergies mean SADLY NO SHORTCUTS. Nothing canned, precooked or packaged foods or spices except for oats, rice, organic flours and organic olive oil. Luckly for me organic dried beans and most vegies nd fruit are also ok except for mangos . Up until recently the days of prepping seemed shorter and easier But now at close to 70 I find myself eating the same things day after day . I still cook for my husband who enjoys most of the things I eat except he still consumes meat and poultry in small amounts. I did get myself a micro steamer recently and like you love and appreciate its ease of use. Thank you for some more useful tips and hacks. Love to you and yours from the USA💗

    Just want to point out due to the sensitive nature of the flax oil and it going rancid like you said, you should never buy flats off the shelf by only if it’s refrigerated and then keep the whole flax in the freezer and the rest of what you said is right ground as needed and always keep it either in the fridge or the freezer. I really like your hats I’m going to try and not washing greens right away and storing herbs on the counter.

    I cut up vegetables like onion and bell pepper into tiny cubes and put them into small plastic tubs, and that way they're already ready to use for the week!
    I'm glad you mentioned how to deal with people questioning our way of eating. Having already been jogging several times a week, a man told me that I would not have any success with the way I was doing it. And then after having lost between 12 and 14 pounds, one of my friends told me that I couldn't be able to lose any weight eating the way that I was eating! (I did not tell her I had already lost a considerable amount of weight. It will become APPARENT with time!)

    I agree about washing the greens. It bothers me that our grocery stores spray them constantly and they are soaked when you buy them. So they end up going bad way faster unless you dry them and store them wrapped in a paper towel. At least in my experience.

    Thats funny, the using ripe spotty banana for nicecream. I absolutely hate spotty bananas and always use them for ice cream when they JUST turned yellow🤣😍

    You're adorable tfs. I've been Vegan for over 15 years so I already use all these great hacks but the last one about responding to a question with a question. Love it because I am always on the defense and it gets annoying. Thanks! New subscriber :)

    Thanks for all the hacks. Love your videos. Not vegan, but love just listening to your advice on how to lose weight. Trying to incorporate your suggestions in my life. I’m more of a domestic goddess in the kitchen. I love cooking.

    Not vegan but I have always washed my fruit as soon as I get home and put it in the fruit bowl for the family to grab & eat whenever.

    Thank you for this video! Before kids, I made elaborate meals with many steps. Now, I have a 3 year old who climbs everything and a 6 year old who tends to make an epic mess. The faster and easier the better right now. Take care!🌷🦋

    My avocado hack: no matter what I end up wasting TOOO many avocados due to setting them off the side to ripen, forgetting them only to find they are now over ripe and black. SO I now only purchase single serving mild guacamole. It works great in place of mashed avocado. In the US Walmart and Trader's Joes has a good quality & well priced. I know the trade off is the addl packaging, but I've decided it's OK for me in light of the number of avocados that I throw out otherwise.

    Totally agree with you about storing greens. Agree also re flax seeds. I grind daily in a coffee grinder. Same rule applies to chia seeds, also very high in omega 3. The processing of veges as soon as I get home from Woolworths and the Food Co-op will be my project from this list ✅ Good stuff Chelsea 👌🏻
    PS : Am in lockdown in Sydney. Your girls will be covid kids, along with my grand kids and friend's kids. A special era. I made a zucchini banana cake with chia eggs - it wasn't bad (half mix was a cake, half muffins/little cakes. There's time to do it without grown up kids and not being able to see anyone.
