This is before the Federation grew a brain and thought they could do more than just throw infantry at what are essentially a entire race of armored cavalry proofed to 7.62mm.
I thought the same. I was wondering if the Arachnid claw has some other negative impact, e.g., super toxic, so that pulling it out was the lesser evil.

One of the best sci fi films of the pre 2000's. undoubtedly inspired Halo to be what it was. We really do need a game where you're dropped in an otherworldy place with a big squad and try to defeat/defend against an alien race in 1st/3rd person combat. such and underused plot in modern gaming, in fact non-existent for the most part.
I'm here to give you a game u want. They officially realised STARSHIP TROOPERS EXTERMINATOR which drop u with other 15 players go fight bugs incase u don't know

Funny how, when we stop to think about it, the bugs are actually sort of the good guys, since they are defending their planet from a human invasion whilst Earth was never, actually, invaded.
@@corpfrotedim2416 they supposedly destroyed Buenos Aires but if you paid attention to the movie, at one point someone says that “Buenos Aires was an inside job” in order to justify the full invasion the bug’s home planet ✌️
I read the book years ago. Originally published in 1959, amazing! The book revolves around deep societal concepts, likely the author uses "alien insects" to fully dehumanize the enemy so that the reader cannot empathize with them, and further drive home the points that the author is trying to make. Good book, but I have to say that the movie is better, the movie didn't follow the early literature completely, but it tastes like recently post-WWII era as you watch it. Good directing, captured the intended atmosphere nicely. Kinetic
Every time I watch this film I think "The dude that got killed in basic isn't the only one whose helmet was 'malfunctioning'" - Half the actors have their helmets over their eyes. Both the guy yelling "BUGS" and Michael Ironside are almost blinded by their helmets, and that's just in 10 seconds of footage.
@@swatboy763They're literally covering their eyes. Half of them they fit properly, but because the neck part comes down so low, for others it pushes the helmet forward and forces them to tilt back to look up.
@ek1953No, it's not. It fits fine for plenty of them - it's a prop issue. Rico's helmet fits him fine, as do several other 'not great soldiers' - if it was symbolic, then Rasczak's helmet wouldn't have it while those others don't because his character is the one most shown to know exactly what he's doing. Edit: Though I do like the idea - it'd be great if intentional, but it wasn't.
The outpost is often incorrectly called "Outpost 29", after the location seen in the 2005 video game, which also resembles Whiskey Outpost. Or so the wiki says
The invasion was a suspected walk in the park, so they effectively just sent in the bare minimum of what a soldier needs, that being guns, armor, and anmo.
True, very well seen. The humans are the bad guys and because the "aliens" are so different from us its easy to kill them and hate them. There was this interesting short movie where they give drugs and modify their brains to view humans of another faction as ugly monsters so its easier to kill them.
Rico: Sir, do yoh want me to have the nuke team, fire a couple rounds into the hoard of bugs? Lt: No let’s deplete our ammo and sacrifice some troopers before the rescue boat comes down. Rico: I have nukes that I can fire right now. Give me five seconds Lt: Rico..you just don’t get it do you. I want to be in a situation where we barely escape with our lives, what?
I Remember when this movie came out, it's a classic. I don't think I ever wished so hard for someone to get eaten by the Bugs as I did for Denise Richards😂
What I don't like about this film is that the Terrans had inadequate weapons for the job. No grenades, mortars, artillery, tanks or air support. The Terran command should be court martialed.
There is a lot of theories, based on the book and the films, that that was part of the point. The Government is a military dictatorship which needs an enemy to keep the population focused away from all the horrible crap they do. What could be more perfect that a horde of aliens that look monstrous and can help keep the population under control for years to come? Especially when the leaders don’t think the Bugs would be a serious threat due to distance besides a few colonies. They do have the weapons and equipment like mech suits, heavy vehicles, and portable mini nukes it’s just almost always “needed somewhere else” as an excuse.
In the book, troopers wear power armour with a whole arsenal of weapons, grenade launchers, flamethrowers etc, radios and cameras. It also enhanced mobility, multiplying every move the wearer did. So, I was a bit dissapointed by their poor equipment they had in the movie.
This movie was cool, wanted to see it in theaters but didn’t get the chance.Would have been nice to see 20mm cannon action or some 40mm cannons because that would added some nice carnage.
It was just keeping with the over the top nature of the film in general. Even though the technical advisor was retired Marine Corps Captain Dale Dye who had done the same job in (and camoed in) Platoon, and would really take off the next year after this film with Saving Private Ryan, and later the Band of Brothers HBO miniseries. Nobody was trying to be tactically realistic outside of depicting the carnage and extreme wounds resulting from combat.
2 things that don’t make sense to me. 1. How was dizzy already out of ammo when she wasn’t in the fight she was on the com? 2. Why didn’t the bugs use the hole in the chow hall for some surprise attack while the soldiers were on the wall fighting?
This movie must be based in the past because they didn't have any Phalanx CIWS type weapons in that outpost. No cannons. No rocket weapons. Nothing advanced.

Against an enemy like that, area weapons[mortars, artillery, SSM's]are what you need. Don't let them get close.
