The only sadness that came was because he wasn’t able to get a ring, but we all know he was one of the best to run it back then!! That statue is a solid 15+ years overdue. Over 2800 rushing yds in a single season at Oklahoma State. Common misconception is that Barry Sanders was a home run hitter but not a consistent “hit the hole and pickup 4-7 yds/carry” running back. Nuh, nuh, nuh, no, he never really had a good O-Line when he was with the Lions, and most of what he accomplished, he accomplished despite his lackluster offensive line. If he had Emmitt’s offensive line, he would be well over 20,000 career rushing yds.

Is four 300 yard games in a season good? Oh and one other game for 293! The freakin GOAT…One of One the Picasso of running backs, if watching him run was art he painted with a completely different brush the field was Barry’s canvas…the statue is superb btw seen it when tallica blew the freakin roof off ford field there’s just great energy in Detroit right now any squad who steps on that turf against DC’s Lions is gonna feel it

Barry Sanders is the real NFL RB 🐐. The most elusive to ever play.

Without a doubt the greatest running back of alltime. To do what he did with that terrible o-line year after year was unreal. Watched his entire career and even though I was a Redskins fan he was my favorite running back in that era.

I loved watching Barry as a kid. I watched more Lions games than my local Patriots games (they sucked then anyhow) for years because he was so fun to watch. Any given game, any single hand-off could be a breakaway highlight run. On top of that any run he got past the line of scrimmage every single yard was usually exciting to see. Dude rarely go tacked while not juking, spinning, jumping, stiff arming or just simply moving dynamically in some way.

    There will NEVER be another.
He will ever remain the standard by which all others are measured.

He went out just like his dads idol, Jim Brown. Barry went out in the prime of his career - one decent Barry season away from the NFL Rushing record. It’s crazy. But just like his rookie season, he needed 10 yards to beat Christian Okoye for the Rushing title…he took himself out of the game to start the 4th Qtr because we had the game basically won already. He just didn’t care about stats or records. I feel so lucky to have witnessed his entire kid as a big Lions fan growing up in Michigan in the 80’s-90’s. That man was the best I’ve ever seen to this day. Thank You Barry!!!!
