#12 Hi-Speed Motorsports E46 M3 NASA Super Touring 2 ST2 Race NJMP Thunderbolt 6/8/19

  • #12 Hi-Speed Motorsports E46 M3 races Super Touring 2 (ST2) with NASA NE at NJMP Thunderbolt. I qualified 9th after catching some sort of traffic every single lap but managed to finish 4th despite the very shortened race. There was an incident between several cars that put us FCY for the rest of the race.
    The M3 is super loose all day, from practice, to qualifying, to the race, it was always sideways and I struggled to put power down. I thought it was the tires and threw a less old set of Hoosiers at the rear of the car but it didn't help. The car had gotten tagged at MidO last weekend, and we discovered that the trailing arm was bent. Put my rear left toe in at a whole inch lol. Despite this, managed to put up a good fight for our short race and make up a few spots. The car was fun to drive and we'll have a new trailing arm for the SCCA WGI Hoosier Super Tour in a two weeks.

    Friendly PSA. Please inspect your rtab pockets as well. Handful of serious accidents in e46 m3 racecars have occurred. Any decent chassis shop should be able to weld in reinforcement.
    This was previously thought to only be an e36 issue but as e46 ages it's showing up in dedicated race cars as a weak point as well.

      The first thing we do when building cars at Hi-Speed is doing all of the necessary reinforcements. We use AKG Motorsport parts on all of our racecars before they ever hit the track.

    at minute 3.16, you came out too soon to the right, and you have not benefited from airflow. you drived almost 80% of that long stretch in "dirty air"...
    just my 2 cents :)

      I totally agree with your opinion. It would have been more beneficial to draft all the way, but I needed to make sure the other driver knew I was going to make a move. If I came out last second, there was a good chance he wasn't going to see me and turn into me. I haven't raced these guys much so I err on the side of caution.

    Great racing. Could definitely tell something was up with how loose the car seemed on video. Credit to the driver.

      It was rough not being able to put all the power down out of the turns but it was alot of fun.

      Hey! I'm really enjoying it. It's fun to race a variety of cars that have different strengths. I think it makes you a better driver as you have to change your racecraft game.
