  • First time at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course with the SCCA Hoosier Super Tour racing in T1 in the #12 Hi-Speed Motorsports E46 M3. Running the Pro course without the chicane this weekend, we had a field of eleven T1 cars where I started 6th in class and finished P3 after having a fantastic race with John Buttermore. Our class consisted of a mix of Corvettes, Mustangs, a Camaro, and of course four Hi-Speed BMW M3s. I am starting in P6 out of 11 for in T1, but since we grid as one race group, I was some 8 positions behind P5 in my class. Crazy what a difference of less than a second in qualifying does to you. Felt a little hopeless starting that far back, but within a few laps I saw my competitors. Second half of the race one we clear out of class cars is when John and I throw down the faster laps of the race doing several 1.33s chasing each other. This track was well suited for the nimble M3s to keep up with the big V8s. While all the BMWs were overweight by 200+ pounds, we had a fighting chance at this track which made for some great racing.
    Highlights:
0:19 - Hugh Stewart's #23 M3 gets pushed off and turned around by a competitor on the track on the first lap. Lots of close calls as the entire field comes at him head on but he escaped unscathed.
3:48 - Some cars had contact and spun at Keyhole. Threading the needle to get through them. You can see the power difference between the M3 and American cars down the straight as they pull away.
7:22 - Clear the last out of class car, the Corvette in front is in T1, let the fun begin! I have a good look at the rear bumper of this car for several laps as I formulate the best place to try for a pass.
14:27 - Get my chance to make a good run out of the last turns. Go for the pass in T1 and then defensive through the next few straights.
18:26 - Catch lap traffic, the orange corvette behind is the overall race leader. We're both trying to get through with Buttermore's T1 Vette close on my tail.
18:45 - I chose wrong, as I couldn't tell which way the Mustang was planning on going. Buttermore follows the orange Vette through, crap! But I go for an opening to repass them both.
23:16 - Two out of class cars up ahead going at it. They have contact at 5 which puts Scott's car off.

I’m in the orange mustang in the beginning of the race. It was fun and good race you used those brakes well to make up a few bus lengths on us in the keyhole 😁 cya out there!

Good racing with you! Making up some grounds in the braking zone was one of my ways to catch up to you guys! You going to WGI?

Great race! Well done to set a p.b on the last lap. Im sure it would have been even faster had it not been for that Camaro on the last lap.

The short shift before 11 is killing your momentum, as well as early braking at the end of the back strait. Get further to the left at the bottom of the esses, and the same at the top of the keyhole.

Great driving and way to stay patient working through the field! I like the highlight notes documented. How do you compare racing the E46 vs. the E36 you previously had?

Thank you! The E46 is everything the E36 did but better. It is easy to drive still but with the power that I was craving when watching some of the big bore cars run. There is more grip on the E46 thanks to the big 295 Hoosiers we stuffed under there. While there is less aero than the E36 due to the T1 rules vs GTS2 rules, I found it quick to adapt to. I reallly enjoy the versatility of the E46 being able to cross over to SCCA and also NASA. Its competitive in both clubs and will also crossover well to BMWCCA. Definitely opens up alot more close racing options.

Nice driving! Curious, what is screwed into the passenger airbag cover? Looks like a light or switch.

Thank you! That's a kill switch. In the case of emergency, a flagger or someone can shut the car off with that button.

A Corvette a Camaro and an E46 walk into a bar... Who's better at late braking?

My bet is on the BMW with the lighter weight, StopTech C43 CBK, and Racing Harness Tech ABS setup. :D

Is the guy at 18:40 okay? May as well just remove the mirrors off the car if you don't use them.... yikes. Congratulations on the podium. Looking more and more comfortable in that car!

Alot of very fast cars came up on him real quick. Three of us were biting at the chomp in a slow section of the track haha. Thank you! This car feels like home.

@@ChristinaYLam yeah, you all moved on him quick, but at the same time he was just middle of the track seemingly like he didn't know you all were there? Blocking you and then moving left to block your competitor... Maybe the video doesn't do it justice...
