I have learnt the most from you in achery , I bought the take down fiber glass bow that you reviewed a month ago and they are fantastic for the price. Great starting point to move on up to even today bow very very nice $150 it's worth it. You pay that for crap bows let alone a beautiful bow like that. Thank you for your passion in achery. Good looking bow for a glass bow. Nice shape great curves. Like I said last time this Yuen style is really starting to grow on me. I can't wait for a company like Alibow to start bending fiber glass like they are in Indonesia I really think they could make some awesome designs relatively inexpensive. So, the Alibow Tatar Bow remains the fiberglass bow 10 gpp speed king, at 50.9 m/s (167 fps). I had a feeling this bow wouldn't take its crown because of how close those string bridges are to the limb's tips. Great review as always.

    Do you have a comparison video for the different AliBow options? They all sound decent and look similar. I've shot archery in the past but don't have a bow currently. I would like to learn thumb release and also just shoot western. Since prices range $70-150 and different regions/eras represented, how does one choose?

    • @malachib5659
      @malachib5659 3 года назад +2

      Hi there Kevin, if you haven't bought a bow yet I might be able to offer some advice.
      From Alibow's fiberglass options, this bow seems to be Armin's top pick. It also is one of the most expensive, up there with the "advanced manchu" which would be a good pick if you're looking for a "cheap" manchu bow with a very long draw length.
      All the other fiberglass bows seem to be decent, as their price reflects. I have a laminated bow from alibow, so I'm going to buy a fiberglass one in the $70-$100 range for my friends to practice with. It won't be a huge bummer if it gets damaged. If I didn't have a laminated bow and didn't want to spend $300 on a bow, I would get this bow, the Yuan. Nice compromise.

    Seen something odd @ time stamp 13:39 to 13:48 : Look at the arrows in the target as Armin Shoots and said, " I don't think so",. Did anyone else see Smoke or a Mist??. I don't think dust would of stayed in the area in or in a cloud about the size of an avg. fist In the time between Each arrow hit. I'm still trying to understand How dust can keep it's Cloud like State with even light wind?? I guess the tarp on top could be a factor.

    Thanks for measuring nock to nock, man. This character in one of my stories uses a (fiberglass yea) Mongol style bow but I haven't been able to come up with a size; just that it's short and maneuverable. So yeah this video helps and I love the design, like how it tapers in toward the handle and the siyahs are longer, that sort of stuff.

On rewatching your review you made a comment about arrow length at about 6.10 and I was wondering if you could clarify something for me. I know that the Chinese describe arrow length as overall total, but does that also apply to their bow's draw length? For example, do I use an arrow with a western 31" length (minus tip and nock), or do I use an arrow that is 31" overall?

    I am considering purchasing my 1st bow for learning thumb draw (I used to shoot modern compound bow), and I have narrowed my decision down between this bow (Advanced Mongol Yuan) and the Tibetan Qinghai from Alibow. Which one do you think would be the easiest for someone trying to learn. I know to start at a low draw weight (I think I'll start at 25# at 28"), but since I've never tried either style of bow before it would be nice to hear a professional opinion on what the pros or cons of each style might be, and if you think one would be a superior learning tool. Your videos have all been very helpful, and thank you so much for the content!
    P.s. I don't know if it will make a difference but, my draw length with the 3-finger draw is about 28"-29."

      Great. Maybe I will start with the less expensive one at 25# and get the other one at 30# a couple months from now so that I can practice with both styles and different draw weights. Thank you so much for replying. I watch a lot of instructional channels on RUclips, and most never respond when I ask questions. It shows that you care about helping and teaching those of us that are trying to learn. I've learned a lot watching your videos so thank you so, so much for all of the work you put into teaching and reviewing for everyone! I'm looking forward to learning more!

    So you recommend this for full draw with 32-inch arrows? That's what I carry now, and my bow's been cracking very gradually so I need a new one. So I came back to this video to see how well the mongol yuan one can handle that kind of length (on several occasions with the Slavic and thumb release, I've pulled back to my jawbone).
    Also how long did it take for this bow to arrive? You ordered a few arrows at once here but if you ordered just the one mongol yuan, how long would it probably be?

      @@ArminHirmer Have you ever heard of the tertiary or secondary draw style? It's kinda like a pinch draw but you use the pointer, middle, and third finger to assist drawing the bow while also pinching the arrow. You also shoot on the left side of the bow with a right handed draw like Mediterranean. Are they're disadvantageous to this type of draw? I haven't tried it with a heavy bow but I get almost 2 more inches of draw with a lighter bow. Just wanted to see what your opinion was.

      @@jarridcarter5001 if I'm not mistaken that would be the way the plains tribes shot there powerful hornbows. But most of the time it was a shorter draw 22"-24". I think personally, my opinion it would be a weaker draw for a heavier draw weight with a full draw 28" or more , mainly because of the egronomics of the draw hand in realitive position of the draw shoulder. On the right side of the bow it resembles the Slavic draw except for pinching with the thumb. In my experience compared to 3 fingers Mediterranean or thumb release my hand doesn't comfortably line up with the bow my draw hand and draw shoulder it feels weaker and less controlable. I'd love to here how it handles with a heavy draw wieght and a full draw. Please keep us informed! The plains Indians seemed quite capable using it though. I love archery history and theory old draw techniques , ways of handling the bow and arrows ect. Ect. Ect.

    A great review of this bow. I am considering to purchase this myself. Which arrows do you recommend for this bow, with a drawweight of 35?

    I just love a short bow that can handle a long draw. Especially at such an affordable price! Also, I was wondering Armin, are bows above 60# illegal in Malta, or do you have to obtain some sort of special permit?
