I had a jack dempsey back in middle school for about 4 years and he got pretty big. Haven’t had time for an aquarium since, but I really hope i can find some more of these fish for a new tank. I’m in Alaska so you’re kind of limited to what you can find locally online or at pet shops :/
Agree, I have mixed firehouse with my jack Dempsey for years. The firehouse can hold their own. For all I know they ight be enjoying the tiffs with the dempseys.
I keep my female in a 55 gallon high tech planted aqaurium with discus and rubberlip plecos. Anything is possible by getting them as juvies and raising them in what environment they are going to be living in.
My 125 gal has a full grown male JD, pair of convicts, pair of green terrors, 5 rohani barbs, 3 clouded archers, group of super red BN plecos, a rhino pleco, Royal pleco and L204a pleco. This tank is amazing and has very little aggression at all!
Would you think clown loaches would be unbotheres as well? I have 2 in a community tank 3" and 2" just got a pair of jd and convicts and other cichlids in my new tank but I want to buy a 125 to put them all in together
I have a 55 gallon right now with a Jack Dempsey. The Jack Dempsey is around 5 to 6 inches. I tried putting a full grown convict in with him and he annihilated him. I'm thinking of salvini would be the best choice something that doesn't get super big and stays at a decent size preferably the same as the jack Dempsey
Nice. I’ve got a tank with a Jaguar, Blue Acara, Firemouth, Red Devil, and a Pike. Been thinking about adding. Green Terror or Jack D. Looks like that might be doable.
I have 2 JD in separate tanks and neither are aggressive. They are actually very passive toward the smaller fish even though they are the largest fish in the tank.
AJ Kelly I keep 4 oscars I have grown from 1” to full size in 8.4 ph no problem currently. Had 4 before these for about 8 years. Clean water and sufficient space is king.
Love Dempsey's!! I had a breeding pair in with 2 Pink convict and a Black convict and was setting up another tank to separate the convicts from the Dempsey's and when I put them all in the new tank til I cleaned and set up the old one the Dempsey's tried to kill the big B convict so he hid for 3 days til I put him back in his original tank and still is shy but the 2 Pinks are acting like they did before the change. I'm sure he will come out of his shell again, the 2 pinks are 1/2 his size and they don't bother him.
My 55g has 1 Jack Dempsey, 2 Silver Dollars, 2 Parrots , 1 Electric Blue Acara and a leopard bush fish. For some reason my acara stays in the same spot on the bottom all day unless its feeding time. I don't see anyone bothering him. Also would adding either a few rainbow fish or instead a few fire mouth cichlids be overkill for this tank? My tank looks empty
I have 7 JD's some are in different tanks but i have them with my male Red Devil cichlid, Salvini cichlid, Mayan cichlid, Hornet cichlid, Redhead cichlid, a bunch of Convict cichlids, Oscars, Blood Parrots, Texas cichlid, Flowerhorn cichlid, and 3 Red Belly Pacu's (not all the fish that i listed are in the same tank as i have 7 fish tank's in total)
Currently I have a juvenile ebjd I'm wanting to move him with my jaguar cichlids just not to sure when I should my electric blue is doing good he's growing fast I'm a little nervous about it bc these jaguar that I have I only have two but there aggressive what do you think any advice?
I have my 100 gallon tank cycled and ready to go now I’m just trying to decided what to stock it with lol I really like the Jack Dempseys. Would one of all the fish you named “minus the jaguar” be a good idea? What do you recommend?
Funny thing is, my particular firemouth is absolutely NASTY to the point where I had to remove him from the tank. He would beef with my convicts and fire eel for no reason. On the other side of the coin, my JD is docile enough to live with angelfish.
Trying to setup a 55 gal and wanna do cichlids. One of the things I'm considering is getting a group of juvenile JDs and letting a pair form out of them. I'd return/sell/otherwise responsibly rehome the others and and keep the pair in the 55. Is this enough space for them if they've paired off on their own? These would be the only two fish in the tank in this case.
I got a colony of mbunas and peacocks. I found a jack dempsey at a pet store super tiny and neglected...surrounded by dead fish. I took him home and he’s totally changed in color, and doubled in size and outgrowing the others. Just today I started noticing he’s catching an attitude with everyone in the tank. I had one before and he was really laid back. This guy....he’s on some roids. I wonder if I get him on a vegan diet...will that help
Great video. I have a juvenile Electric Blue Acara that is growing like a weed. Are your tanks mostly 55 gallons? I need to upgrade to a 125 gallon for when he gets bigger and also I have a 14" Pleco that is cramped in a 55. I believe Petsmart has stopped selling 125 gallon and the 125 gallon stand combo. Do you know where I can pick up a 125 that is not overpriced? Thanks!
I bout my 125 two months ago from pet-smart they still do sell the combo set, try offerup and Craigslist if you can’t find one even Facebook market place is a good place to check good luck.
Thanks for all the great info! You’ve just about sold me on the J. Dempsey! They are beautiful but unfortunately, I don’t have a tank to put one in. Maybe I’ll add one to my wish list. ☺️ I do have a question. Is it possible to keep a syndontis catfish with a Flowerhorn? Or do Flowerhorns just not like sharing tank space with anyone at all?
I added my jack Dempsey which is about 3 inches or so into my fish tank the other day and for some reason it’s like a silver-ish color instead of that dark with the blue is that something to be concerned about or will they kind of darken up overtime
Hey man, I like your videos. I am wondering what to do with a bunch of polar blue convict fry. They keep breeding and I don't like killing fish. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
Had a fine group of fish - JD, jewel, pleco, acara and convict. Lost my acara and convict to illness. Later I tried to add a firemouth and convict and JD tore them to shit and had to remove. Back to 3 fish in my 75 haha
Have you tried over stocking with the two? I have a pair of electric blue acara with a juvenile jack Dempsey I got and was wandering if overstocking would be ok. So I was wandering if your overstocking worked out?
Yo chris been wanting to ask i got a 6 to 7 inch peacock bass not 100% sure what kind he is but he sold to me as a spot like peacock looks like a xingu peacock to me though but i took him in cause he had hole in the head an was in a small tank i figured i could treat him an get him better an put him with my other monster fish i have but ive done everything i feel like every other day water changes treating with salt general cure metro he will only eat live minnows or blood worms so i cant really make medicated food do you have any tricks up your sleeve or how you deal with this disease hes so healthy other then the lateral line disease aka hole in the head
I remember when I was 7 I got a tank and I had 2 red parrots with some other fish. 1 red parrot was a stone cold killer and destroyed any fish I’d put in
I’ve been dreaming of owning a Jack Dempsey and a green terror cichlid but all my room can accomidate is a 75 is that tight or just enough by keeping decor down etc thank you
my male jack Dempsey fish is still a baby, and has killed every fish on this list, and more, except the blood parrot which is really afraid right now, and the only fish he runs from is the female Dempsey since she's bigger for now, he even murdered a full grown bristle nose pleco, I don't know what I got myself into.
Is that a flowerhorn with the other fish and the jack Dempsey? Can you have those together really want a flowerhorn for my tank but I've read you shouldn't please school me someone so I can go on with my life......lol
Lower the temperature to 75 I just had this issue with my fish. Had it at 82 lowered it and the aggression went down hope that helps you if you still having that issue
Hey I was wondering and if anyone has any links in the comments! I'm working as a sales associate at a local pet store and I've been crazy about fish for about a year now. My boss wants me more in the fish departments for only freshwater. But I want to learn more to improve as I learn along the way! Does anyone have any suggestions or links to somewhere I can learn all about different types of pet shop fishys! If so please reply thannnnks

I had a jack dempsey back in middle school for about 4 years and he got pretty big. Haven’t had time for an aquarium since, but I really hope i can find some more of these fish for a new tank. I’m in Alaska so you’re kind of limited to what you can find locally online or at pet shops :/
I have 3 Jack Dempseys and they are beautiful!
Do they get along? I have 2 females and I’m thinking about adding a male

Yeah thier pretty cool
Same here

Jack Dempsey is very nice fish! Blue Dempsey is even more beautiful!
Great video! I have an Oscar with my Dempsey, they work out great

"Hey, food dispenser"
_taps watch_

Agree, I have mixed firehouse with my jack Dempsey for years. The firehouse can hold their own. For all I know they ight be enjoying the tiffs with the dempseys.
Well done on 40K dude
I’m still building cosmetically but I have two Oscars with same size Jack small attitudes but they get along 7 months in tank together.
My 5 inch Jack Dempsey Cichlids is with 2 sever and 3 parrotfish as well as a small jaguar cichlid.
Severums
Oscar for the best tank mate. You couldn't separate my Oscar from my Dempsy without passing one off. They eat, sleep, and swim together.
I have a male and female JD with a red spotted severum, pleco, clown loaches, black convict, and green terror.
I keep my female in a 55 gallon high tech planted aqaurium with discus and rubberlip plecos. Anything is possible by getting them as juvies and raising them in what environment they are going to be living in.
Yeah me.too i have 2 males in a 120g planted tank with angelfish, denison barbs, BloodParrots and everything is fine ^_^
My 125 gal has a full grown male JD, pair of convicts, pair of green terrors, 5 rohani barbs, 3 clouded archers, group of super red BN plecos, a rhino pleco, Royal pleco and L204a pleco. This tank is amazing and has very little aggression at all!
Oh an 5 sterbai corydoras that no one bothers
Would you think clown loaches would be unbotheres as well? I have 2 in a community tank 3" and 2" just got a pair of jd and convicts and other cichlids in my new tank but I want to buy a 125 to put them all in together
Nice my Jack Dempsey has those exact colors definitely one of my favorites I own at the moment
We have a male and female dempsey with two Angels and a common pleco and do great
I have a 55 gallon right now with a Jack Dempsey. The Jack Dempsey is around 5 to 6 inches. I tried putting a full grown convict in with him and he annihilated him. I'm thinking of salvini would be the best choice something that doesn't get super big and stays at a decent size preferably the same as the jack Dempsey
Everyone keeps telling me Jack Dempsey and green terror fish don't go with firemouth well. I'm glad I found someone that says otherwise
Great video man! Jack Dempseys are some of my favorite, if you couldnt tell by my god given name. 😂
haha same here bro ! i love them
Nice. I’ve got a tank with a Jaguar, Blue Acara, Firemouth, Red Devil, and a Pike. Been thinking about adding. Green Terror or Jack D. Looks like that might be doable.
Hey just curious what size is that tank with your big guys in there?
I have 2 JD in separate tanks and neither are aggressive. They are actually very passive toward the smaller fish even though they are the largest fish in the tank.
is 7.8 ph to high for oscars?
And love the vids keep up the great work just got a pair of JD's they already bred at 3 inchs!!!
7.8 ph is a bit on the higher side,, if u can try to lower the ph they will appreciate it.
JD's are awesome !
AJ Kelly I keep 4 oscars I have grown from 1” to full size in 8.4 ph no problem currently. Had 4 before these for about 8 years. Clean water and sufficient space is king.
I have fallen in love with King Kong Parrots after seeing those giant ones Predatory Fins is selling... so cool
i Have a PEARLY King kong bloodparrot and Jack dempsey's they are really stunning !
@@kakakid22 I'm gonna get a jack demsey and a jaguar for my 125 gallon. I love both of those fish with 2 frontosas
@@cameroncarter1739 yeah they are amazing fish. Frontosa are also awesome good luck pal
Hey Chris
How come you don't recommend JDs n Texas? Is it a tank size matter, or?
Just asking a question will Oscars make a good tankmates for Jack Dempsey
Can you put a giraffe cichlid with a male jack dempsey
Love Dempsey's!! I had a breeding pair in with 2 Pink convict and a Black convict and was setting up another tank to separate the convicts from the Dempsey's and when I put them all in the new tank til I cleaned and set up the old one the Dempsey's tried to kill the big B convict so he hid for 3 days til I put him back in his original tank and still is shy but the 2 Pinks are acting like they did before the change. I'm sure he will come out of his shell again, the 2 pinks are 1/2 his size and they don't bother him.
To bad i couldnt post a pick of my Jack Dempsey's. They colour is amazing the red and blue stand out strong.
What is the beast on 7:22 with nuhal hump? Nicaraguensis or Balzanii? Tnx...
Man I need to no what the greeney yellow fish is with nuchal hump at about 7.30 minutes, I can't wait for you to do a video on him what is he
I have 7 JD's some are in different tanks but i have them with my male Red Devil cichlid, Salvini cichlid, Mayan cichlid, Hornet cichlid, Redhead cichlid, a bunch of Convict cichlids, Oscars, Blood Parrots, Texas cichlid, Flowerhorn cichlid, and 3 Red Belly Pacu's
(not all the fish that i listed are in the same tank as i have 7 fish tank's in total)
Do u know were can find gold jack Dempsey
Currently I have a juvenile ebjd I'm wanting to move him with my jaguar cichlids just not to sure when I should my electric blue is doing good he's growing fast I'm a little nervous about it bc these jaguar that I have I only have two but there aggressive what do you think any advice?
Hi, what other filtration do you use apart from the sponge filters?
I have my 100 gallon tank cycled and ready to go now I’m just trying to decided what to stock it with lol I really like the Jack Dempseys. Would one of all the fish you named “minus the jaguar” be a good idea? What do you recommend?
Nice vid. Can you do another one for jewel cichlids?
Is the black round err fish a urus spelling error sorry!
Funny thing is, my particular firemouth is absolutely NASTY to the point where I had to remove him from the tank. He would beef with my convicts and fire eel for no reason. On the other side of the coin, my JD is docile enough to live with angelfish.
What about dither fish for a single Jack Dempsey? What kinds?
Trying to setup a 55 gal and wanna do cichlids. One of the things I'm considering is getting a group of juvenile JDs and letting a pair form out of them. I'd return/sell/otherwise responsibly rehome the others and and keep the pair in the 55. Is this enough space for them if they've paired off on their own? I've got a jack with three oscars a perch and a bull nose catfish
How many would you suggest I could keep in my 55 gallon wanna get a mix of jack dempseys and jaguar cicklets
Great video. I have a juvenile Electric Blue Acara that is growing like a weed. Are your tanks mostly 55 gallons? I need to upgrade to a 125 gallon for when he gets bigger and also I have a 14" Pleco that is cramped in a 55.

Our JD unalived our fire mouth
Thanks for all the great info! You’ve just about sold me on the J. Dempsey! They are beautiful but unfortunately, I don’t have a tank to put one in. Maybe I’ll add one to my wish list. ☺️
I do have a question. Is it possible to keep a syndontis catfish with a Flowerhorn? Or do Flowerhorns just not like sharing tank space with anyone at all?
I feel like the synodontis catfish would get destroyed by the flowerhorn as I own some of my own and they really don't get too big
hi, can you keep 2 females if you aren’t trying to breed?
thanks,
How do you keep all those tanks looking so good. Is it difficult
You gotta be on top of tank maintenance that’s the key
What about the salvini? How many South American chiclids do you recommend for a 125 gallon tank
I added my jack Dempsey which is about 3 inches or so into my fish tank the other day and for some reason it’s like a silver-ish color instead of that dark with the blue is that something to be concerned about or will they kind of darken up overtime
They darken up over time as u probably already see a year later 🤣 it’s crazy how fast these fish grow
When is a good time to introduce jack dempsey and Oscar??
Hey man, I like your videos. I am wondering what to do with a bunch of polar blue convict fry. They keep breeding and I don't like killing fish. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
Sell them on craiglist ?
My JD just drug my convict ! Idk what I should do but they are both still alive
Unfortunately I have never had a male jaguar that was not super aggressive... love them though
Bred a ton though. Over stocked my LFS lol
How about convicts?
3:35 is when the vid starts
0:22 , is that? Argentine Humphead?
And I’m curious what the nitrate levels are in that Jack tank?
Honestly.
Yeah really man. This guy overstocks his tanks like a madman.
How do I view your live chat (becoming a fan)!!
Had a fine group of fish - JD, jewel, pleco, acara and convict. Lost my acara and convict to illness. Later I tried to add a firemouth and convict and JD tore them to shit and had to remove. Back to 3 fish in my 75 haha
Do you not use HOB anymore?
I used to have a green terror but he passed away few months ago 😢😢
Do you have any female blue acara
Do you have any budakofri ?
I’ve got an issue a green terror and a blue acara fighting abit - I notice a lot of people ‘overstock’ to help aggression does it work
Have you tried over stocking with the two? I have a pair of electric blue acara with a juvenile jack Dempsey I got and was wandering if overstocking would be ok. So I was wandering if your overstocking worked out?
sir i bought 6 ft by 2 ft tank. can u suggest me which fish combination should i use in it.
Huge school of tiger barbs
1 red parrot was a stone cold killer and destroyed any fish I’d put in
I had a jack dempsey like that
What size is your predator tank?
My parrots and severums are doing well with my jack
Hey man, do you know anywhere I could order a good sized green terror?? Been to every pet store within 300 miles (for real) and can never find one 😭
Do you need to worry about breeding aggression when you only have 1 of that particular species in the tank?
I’ve been dreaming of owning a Jack Dempsey and a green terror cichlid but all my room can accomidate is a 75 is that tight or just enough by keeping decor down etc thank you
Let's see more of the new flowerhorn thanks
My electric blue jack Dempsey and my red devil are best friends
Hahaha knew you would say jag as number 1 you love them
I have a few peacocks in my tank with the dempsey and they seem to get on
Are severum a good tank mate ?
Yes !
Bro what the hell is that yellow fish with the hump
I think that is Nicaraguensis or Balzanii...
my male jack Dempsey fish is still a baby, and has killed every fish on this list, and more, except the blood parrot which is really afraid right now, and the only fish he runs from is the female Dempsey since she's bigger for now, he even murdered a full grown bristle nose pleco, I don't know what I got myself into.
you just kept him in there to kill the rest?
oscars are a good tank mate or severums, plecos
I had six of them together and one of the six killed off the other five….
I got 7 tiger barbs, 2 South Africa cichlid in a tank, just tossed in a Dempsey. Let's see what happens.
The tank looks too small but their beautiful
Is that a flowerhorn with the other fish and the jack Dempsey? Can you have those together really want a flowerhorn for my tank but I've read you shouldn't please school me someone so I can go on with my life......lol
I have a yong jack Dempsey but he has ich
Just higher the temperature and maybe add some aquarium salt for a couple of days and it will be fine
In addition to what he just told you also do about 2 to 3 water changes a week until he’s better
Thanks guys I added ich x as well and it seems to be working
I always get demon blood parrots
Where are you located?
Hello my friend i got 2 female jack dem
My king Kong parrot bullies my JD cichlids
Also my Oscar is being really aggressive to my jack Dempsey does anyone have advice
Rearange the tank decorations.. hope it helps
Lower the temperature to 75 I just had this issue with my fish. Had it at 82 lowered it and the aggression went down hope that helps you if you still having that issue

My oscar and jack get along
Nothing I put in the tank with my one JD survives more than two days
oof too bad the Jaguars are illegal in Australia now
