  • Hello The Way We Wore Fans,
In this upload Doris talks about sustainability, a topic that has been prevalent in Fashion and with brands as the industry moves towards greener solutions in manufacturing and selling clothes. Doris features garments that were either upcycled or repurposed. She amassed a great collection of unique items, a bicycle tire dress as well as upcycled Libertine pieces.

I think LA people think it is cold there because they don’t have furnaces. When it gets down to 50 degrees, their homes feel chilly.

Amanda H I agree with you. I live in WI...it was -21 F yesterday morning. My point is that without a furnace or storm windows, a California house will seem chilly to people who are used to hot weather. You and I know what cold really is, lol.

Thank-you so much for the inspiration! In my work room I have a 60ies dress to alter to my body, a 50ies style hat I´m making from a 90ies hat and a 80ies handbag to be painted into something very me... I am prone to always think the results of my work are inferior to buy the real thing from a shop. Your video really gives me a push of confidence!

The Boro textile is really cool, looks a bit like a Bauhaus woven textile.
There's an interesting pottery repairing technique from Japan called "Kintsugi" or "Kintsukuroi" where a broken pot is repaired with a type of golden lacquer to highlight the crack and make the break a thing of beauty. Kind of similar philosophy to the Boro textile, repair, reuse, imbued with character.

Love your store and your beautiful way of protecting, sharing and educating the world on the relevance and preciousness of vintage fashion!! As a designer My first job in fashion, in the 80's was being turned loose by my boss in his denim warehouse in New Jersey with nothing but my wild London trained imagination, a seamstress and my innocents, to repurpose 1000's of unsold product as well as " Simpson cartoon licensed" garments! OMG. Jackets , jeans you name it was all just gathering dust!! This challenge was some of the most fun ever, I graffitied, ripped and shredded, stoned and bejeweled re imagined this warehouse of unsold merch into product that sold in Jr departs across the US!! It was a start for me of a creative love affair with Sustainability before it was even a thing!! I hope I don't sound insane but it really happened and your Doris , your amazing presentation just brought it all back to me!! Thank you....

WOW!! Gorgeous items, as always! Everything is so beautiful..beyond words.
That jacket your friend embellished was just so, so, lovely!! Beautiful workmanship.
Thank you for the links-I did know about Stella and Patagonia-but not the others. Thank you for that!!
Sewing is something I enjoy doing-but taking things apart to remake-I'm afraid I don't enjoy (arthritis)...it would be nice it there were shops that sold items "deconstructed", and you could pick out the bits you needed for your next project!! That would be a wonderful way to reuse fabrics!
Have a great week, and thank you for your time.

I love this. I worked at a theme park hemming employee uniform pants and kept the scraps. I turned them into a boro inspired jacket that I absolutely adore. I will wear it for years and mend it over time. As a fashion designer, I love creating labor-intensive surface design. Boro ideology is absolutely apart of that. Thank you again Doris for being wonderful.

Hope you can do commentary on the recent jpg retiring and the effects of this on the items that Doris has, I was sad of the news but I think his brand will have a upmonitization renasainse because of this. Just his archive must have increased some millions since yesterday. Great video as always guys.

I was reading your comment at the exact moment, the Kimono 👘 cut apart came up in the video: I actually did reach for my pearls~ with an audible intake of breath🙊
Glad to hear that she’s giving it a few years yet~ intact.
Maybe it will have found a home. One hopes.
If not, sadly- as an avid mending/up cycling/repurpose advocate…. I get it.
      It’s beautiful, not historical.
      With hopefully, many years of
use left. Before the silk shatters, and is rendered unwearable/unusable

Thank you Doris, as always very interesting, inspiring and informative. For years I have bought 'vintage' or what used to be call 'second hand'. I may now try up cycling some of my more 'tired' clothes. I have explored the 'Boro ' technique on my jeans, enjoying the process and the results one can achieve and it's actually not very hard to do, basically running stitch and a bit of imagination. The thought of ones clothes out living us, to be worn by future generations to come is maybe something we should all at least consider when making a purchase. Thanks again for a super video.
