      And in china cars get driven harder than western countries. Thanks to cheap parts and labour vehicles generally run to 500-600k kms before they become too expensive to repair and pass inspections.
      Africa takes that to a whole new level.

    Ah, Foton View, an absolute classic. This model originated from the 1989 Toyota HiAce H100. In the 2000s, many Chinese car companies introduced Toyota's technology and launched their own modified HiAce models. This is an early Foton View, which is very rare and may have been brought to Africa by the Chinese engineering team. It uses a 2.5-litre 4J25TC TDi engine, which is also rare, because the common H100 uses a gasoline engine or a 2.8-litre 4JB1. It doesn't seem to be in a good state now, but this is a precious classic. Please treat it well.

    China has made many vans that copied the Toyota Hiace.
    Many parts are broken and the steering wheel is not at the right angle, but it doesn't appear to have any major problems with use.
    Africa seems to have a lot of used cars imported from various countries around the world.
    It would be fun to look for traces of homeland in some cars!
    Ford SUV from America. Mercedes truck from Germany. Nissan hatchback from Japan.
    From the perspective of automobiles, Africa is both a new second life and a land that will become a graveyard.

      @@Snufkin812 one thing : the dr Congo is huge; one side is turned towards athlantic and the other towards indian ocean exchanges...
      On an other register, used cars market from Western Europe and north america sends too much refurbished cars that dies after 2 years approx
      Whilst japan send younger cars, in better conditions (makes that have cheaper spares) so they conquered the market (basicaly indians take from Japan to dubai, then sell it from there)
      But even on the brand new cars market, european makes (merc, beemer, vw, Peugeot...) vanished... it's now Toyall the way (eg; the LC 100 200 or 300 replaced the s class & lc 90 120 150 replaced the E class - thanks to road conditions)

      @@juniorboweya I believe that the condition of a used car that comes to Africa depends on many factors.
      1. How the previous owner took care of the car.
      2. Environment and culture of the exporting country.
      3. And the conscience of the seller.
      One thing is for sure, we agree that Japanese used cars are in many ways better than American or European used cars!

    • @televisionandcheese
      @televisionandcheese Год назад +3

      It's not really dangerous, even if the car has power steering you can still steer without it
      Similarly with assisted brakes, they will still work for a few minutes or several full brake pedal pushes before vacuum runs out, and after that you can still brake without issue, just need to push the pedal harder
      the real danger is from turning off the engine by the key, you can very easily turn the key barrel too far back, and the steering lock may engage! This is very dangerous when driving if this occurs.

    • @jonytube
      @jonytube Год назад +4

      It's dangerous because the car is basically freewheeling. With the engine on and in gear, the engine itself helps the car to brake, but besides that you also have vacuum on the brake lines which makes the pedal a LOT softer, without vacuum you almost have to put your whole weight on the pedal. You will also have power steering, ESC, ABS and all other electronic driving assists.
      You can drive a car with the engine off but keep the key on the barrel for the steering not to lock. You just won't have any assist and it's very dangerous to do so because you're basically inside a 2ton metal jail soapbox car.

    the brakes are not going to work nearly as good, as if the engine was still running and if you let of the throttle the engine will not use any fuel at all, but the power steering, brake assist and everything else still works, because of the momentum of the car rotating the engine, if you dont use the clutch
    also the engine will brake the car depending on which gear you are in more or less, therefore you will have to use the brakes way less and they wont overheat as quickly, saving you brakes and potential crashes ...

      but what if the slope gives you just the right speed without braking ? If you need to slow down sure killing the engine seems like a bad idea, but if you don't then I guess you're saving a tiny bit of fuel by killing it.
      As for safety well it's another matter
