      Thanks Jordan I appreciate it! Absolutely, it does have a very nice peak hydrophobic performance out of it, and it's not that crazy heavy of a spray topper as well. Really good stuff, paired with that tropical fruit punch scent and yeah I can use that every week!

      Thanks Jay Cee! What I need to do is grab some of the coatings I have on the shelf, and run some sort term topping tests with them while they're fresh on the paint to see if there's more of an impact. Currently, I've got these coatings around the paint that are fully cured and passed their prime on the paint, and there could be that difference in the impact of trying to top a fresher healthy coating that I need to dive more into testing with different toppers.
      But absolutely, last washes of the coatings with the Ultimate Quik Detailer and Ultimate Quik Wax were still very hydrophobic during the wash. I appreciate your feedback!

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад +6

      This one has been a long time coming for both of these formulas, these were first released around 2007-2008 so this feels like a good time for a refreshment. I think Meguiar's did a great job at not tweaking them too much so that Ultimate loyalists aren't disappointed, I'm very satisfied.
      Now moving forward, this might be something that we may see become a trend in the market with companies trying to one up each other by pushing updated formulas at a much faster rate, possibly at the expense of actual innovation. If it comes to that then this will be addressed.

      Thanks PapaSmurf! Feels like the golden age of detailing right now, so many good products out there it's getting difficult to narrow down the options into favorites. But I think if I started over from scratch and got rid of everything on the shelf, I don't think I would hesitate to add the Ultimate sprays to the lineup.
      Blackfire Paint Prep is working well, doesn't have the heavy solvent smell that Prep-All has but I still prefer Prep-All in the end. Better pricing, smoother application than Blackfire.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад

      Absolutely Gabe, that's one of the things that I really like about these Meguiar's is that lighter feeling they have. If a product is going to be a bit heavier, then I want it to behave like the Polish Angel sprays which are super easy to level out on the paint compared to other heavier products.

  • @GainingDespair
    @GainingDespair 4 года назад +3

    I don't care so much for gloss, or slickness, so much as hydrophobic. I like to top up after each wash but I've always questioned if I was negatively effecting the hydrophobic properties in the short term or long term. As products degrade performance decrease but a lot of these quick detailers work well at first but don't last all too long,
    I've always wondered in the long term if topping with a quick detailer product was a good idea, they degrade quickly (relative to coatings), I've not really been certain that after lets say 3 weeks the degraded quick detailer would negatively effect the hydrophobic qualities vs not having it on the coating at all. I still use because I just like to see that water beading lol

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад +1

      Right on! My preferences can change with the wind, sometimes it's nice to pull out some slickness champions and not get caught up in hydrophobic wizardry. As much as I like hydrophobics, the hot environment here in Florida is best suited for rinseless washing on a regular basis, which really negates the attraction for insane hydrophobic monsters. It's just too hot and sunny most of the time to be washing the paint down with hard water if I was really trying to avoid hard water spotting.
      In that case, I would be going with something like Uber Rinseless Wash and topping up with some slickness monsters on the coatings on a regular basis rather than reaching for some more hydrophobic toppers. Even though the coatings can be affected by your toppers in a negative way, the important part is they can still be protecting the paint at a very high level, regardless of how extreme their top layer hydrophobic performance is holding up.

      Right the original smell on the Ultimate Detailer I was also a fan of! I do like the new one better though so I'm not disappointed. Turtle Wax did change up the scent on their updated Ice Spray Wax and I did prefer the smell on the older formula, so sometimes you win some and you lose some.

      So many players now in the car care market with new ones popping up almost daily the market has become very competitive. Makes it a very exciting time for the enthusiast/consumer.
      I am fairly certain the market will soon become oversaturated sending some products down the closeout outlet path. Consumer wise that is a win. I expect some product lines to fail not based on their merit or lack thereof but because average consumer Joe can only afford to have so many products on hand at any given time.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад

      Great points! That's the importance on building up an attractive brand, it's not just about how good the product itself is, you've got to draw me into grabbing for that product as opposed to something else.
      Meguiar's is doing a really good job at that for me, the bottles look great, I love the new design, the new Opus style sprayer tops are some of my favorites, and the fragrance is fantastic.
      There's slicker products out there than both of these right here, there's products that will give you even more impressive water behavior, but Meguiar's is able to package together both the performance of the chemical, the ease of use, along with the aesthetics of the product much more effectively than many on the market, and that's what makes me grab for it over some other choices.

      Shinee Wax I definitely need to get my hands on, I know Jon at Forensic Detailing and Brian at Apex Detail have gotten some fantastic gloss number jumps using Shinee Wax on their test panels. Tac System is still not taking new orders due to Covid here in the states so I might reach out to Carzilla and see what kind of shipping costs would be from Canada over to me. But that is the hot product in terms of gloss right now.
      My gloss quest is still ongoing. My main test panel at the peak abrasive limit is just not seeing any significant improvement in measurable gloss out of most products, Poorboy's World Black Hole Glaze was able to marginally improve gloss above the abrasive numbers with Perfect Finish after washing the glaze, but I still need to run a lot more tests with this and it's still less than 1 gloss unit difference. Other cars that I work on and detail I just don't have the daily access to really be able to observe and quantify the gloss effectively.
      I've been really satisfied with the gloss range of most products I've worked with over the years given the abrasive prep beforehand, but if I happen to pick up a nice car with some deeper and darker paint, I will be on the hunt for the gloss unicorn to further the quest.

    Would you choose Hybrid Ceramic Detailer and/or Wax over Ultimate Quik Detailer or Wax?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад +7

      That is a great question, and I REALLY like the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer. It is a bit heavier than the Ultimate Quik Detailer though, so if you're touching up spots or streaking or smears, Ultimate Quik Detailer is the better clean up product for me. But as far as maintaining the coatings' extreme hydrophobic performance, the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer would be my optimal choice especially if those waxes/sealants/coatings have really started to diminished and I want to jump that water behavior back up a significant amount above what you could achieve with Ultimate Quik Wax. HCD is the most hydrophobic of the bunch with one coat, it's a little more expensive and I think UQW is a great balance of performance priced underneath HCD.
      If I could have one it would be Hybrid Ceramic Detailer, I should have another video showcasing this one in more detail in the future.

    Never quite managed to wrap my head around this lol!

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад

      I'm sure there are some good explanations down the rabbit hole with some guys that have a chemistry background, but nothing off the top of my head. Just seems like the topper is piggybacking on the chemistry of the base protectant in some instances.
      Ultimate Quik Detailer is relatively lighter, and those lighter forms of detailers are going to be much less likely to want to mask over the base protectant and reduce performance. After this video I was working with different toppers over the hydrophobic Polish Angel products, and the Hybrid Solutions Ceramic 3-in-1 Detailer which is quite heavy by itself, that will reduce Rapidwaxx's hydrophobic behavior pretty noticeably, whereas Ultimate Quik Detailer leaves it unaffected with great hydrophobics after the rinse.

    Do you have any plans on comparing the new updated verison of ultimate liquid wax to the old formula?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  3 года назад

      I definitely want to get my hands on the new paste wax for sure to try out against the older one, I saw them on the shelf recently on the store so they’re available. The liquid wax I’m not sure if I’ll go that route, it depends on if I start stacking up on test panel hoods. Also saw the new Paint Coating kit on the shelf for around $60 so eventually I’ll try that one out too.
      Still need to move the majority of my gear and products up to the new location, that will be happening next month and then I can start steamrolling on new testing.

    For how long does the quick wax lasts? Do I need to apply ceramic detailer after this wax, something like hybrid ceramic spray or Rainx? Or not needed?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  2 года назад +1

      Ultimate Quik Wax (UQW) is designed for maintenance, I would not recommend using this as your main protectant. Durability is going to vary and is largely dependent on how healthy the base paint or protection is before applying something on top, and UQW you could see anywhere as little as a week of durability, to as long as over a month. But since this is designed strictly for maintenance, then durability is not much of a factor because you can use this regularly after your washes and reserve your main protection to be applied much less often.
      So I would choose something like Ultimate Paste Liquid Wax as my main protection, reapply that after every 2-5 months, but then preserve it using Ultimate Quik Wax after my regular washes, and I can use UQW as often as I'd like. If I'm using something like Hybrid Ceramic Wax as my main protection, then I would maintain this with Hybrid Ceramic Detailer instead of UQW, because the chemistry is more similar to one another. You can mix and match protectants and toppers but I would generally recommend staying within the same lineup in the brand, Hybrid Ceramic Detailer is heavier than UQW and will be better at maintaining the more hydrophobic properties of Hybrid Ceramic Wax compared to UQW, although either should still work well.

      @@WaxMode Thanks for your time and your valuable feedback. I like your idea of using a wax (to maintain paint) and topping with a ceramic detailer to maintain the wax and protect the paint. U mentioned hybrid as a ceramic detailer, I actually use Rainx, but I don't think Rainx is as a good as hybrid. Have seen reviews saying the only different is in longitivity. Hybrid lasts for 6 months, Rainx lasts for 1-2 months. Have you tried Rainx? I also think the added layer by Hybrid ceramic detailer is thicker than the one by Rainx, diff is few more micrometers. Finally do u think it's really good idea to use wax after applying the ceramic detailer? What is the point if ceramic detailers are heavier? Also I heard some types of waxes (like carnauba wax) can remove the ceramic coating! Please be patient with me as I'm little bit confused! A lot of such products in the market and you r not sure who should be applied after who and if adding one can negatively affect the other. My thinking was usually that ceramic detailers should be the final layer but u r saying u can use waxes after every wash to maintain the hybrid ceramic coating. I don't think all waxes can be used after applying the ceramic spray coating/detailer by Hybrid or Rainx. I would be v careful on what type of wax to apply and yes mixing brands is so annoying. I was interested in Mafra products and metal car care product but I would think this should be used before a ceramic detailer is applied. Also do car wash shampoos damage the layer applied by ceramic detailers???

    How do you think these compare to the old formula? I’ve had excellent results from the previous formula but it doesn’t look like meguiars took the same path as turtle wax for the formula update with increase chemica resistance, though it looks like it’s a bit more hydrophobic?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад +2

      They're definitely still similar to the older formulas, this Ultimate Quik Detailer does feel a bit slicker to me, and Ultimate Quik Wax does look like it has a jump in hydrophobic performance compared to the old one. Still just as easy to work with.
      I think in order for Meguiar's to add in some of the properties to cause the products to be more chemically resistant, that would completely change up the way these products feel in terms of how heavy they are, how much wiping it takes to level them down, and how much hydrophobic performance that you can get. Usually the spray products that do excel in chemical resistance, I don't see them having quite the hydrophobic potential or lighter feeling as you apply them to the paint that Ultimate Quik Wax has.
      Better for Meguiar's if they want to come out with something that packs a lot of chemical resistance to come out with a completely new and separate product for that role, I personally would not be willing to give up the good features of Ultimate Quik Wax in favor of better chemical resistance.

    So would you recommend using meguiars ultimate quick wax/synthetic x-press spray wax to dry a car that has meguiars m27 or meguiars hybrid liquid wax?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  2 года назад

      You could, but I would rather use Hybrid Ceramic Detailer (HCD) as the drying aid on both M27 and Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax. HCD is a little heavier than Ultimate Quik Wax or D156, but still very usable on a wet surface, it's also more durable than UQW with better hydrophobics. HCD is more similar to the chemistry of M27 and HCLW which makes it an ideal choice. Still have to be careful on dark paints to watch out for smearing, and if that happens with HCD then I would recommend diluting it with distilled water.

    WaXmode another great video and a lot product that performs well for the money. Is that a Mosimatic or MTM spray gun on your pressure washer ? Love reading your posts on AG forum. What is your day job you must be something that has details ? Good to see you on PapaSmurf lives and you are on Apex Detail Support group yes ? Thanks

      Thanks Doc! This one is the MTM SGS28, really great gun that's holding up well and I use it often. I was close to trying out the Mosmatic with the even smoother swivel, but to be honest this MTM is holding up great and I never get tangled up maneuvering this around the cars during the washes.
      Love PapaSmurf's and FAB's livestreams! It's just really cool being able to see the crew jump back and forth between the channels and get to hang out on a regular basis. I'm rarely ever on Facebook or Instagram, seems like I have trouble even keeping up with the comments on the youtube channel and I spend a lot more time lurking on the various detailing forums, but I'll definitely look into Brian's support group!

      If you want to boost protection a bit more once the paint is clean, that’s when I would use Ultimate Quik Wax. The Detailer I would use for lighter maintenance tasks, if you don’t need to boost protection much you can substitute the Detailer in to use after your washes.

    How do you feel about the UQW vs the Griots 3 in 1 as a drying aid and the only protection on a vehicle?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад

      Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax is a more significant protectant, I'm at 6 months at 2 coats and it's holding up without maintenance. You can use the Griot's as a drying aid, I don't like to use it like this, it's a bit too heavy for that role for me and it can streak on you if overspray starts drying on the paint before you get to wiping it in thoroughly, but some have had good results using it wet. UQW I wouldn't want to use this solo, I would want a stronger base layer protectant on the surface, and use UQW for the maintenance or as the drying aid.

      @@WaxMode Dang, thats nice to hear about 3 in 1! I am a spray kind of guy as I live in an apartment and have little time so its generally a rinse/waterless wash and a spray sealant/wax usually. Do you have a recommended product for that kind of situation? Admittingly I run it through a drive thru wash (I got lazy) for fast cleans and the towel dry at the end sometimes, do you think these spray products help reduce the scratching from that?

      I’ve used the old version of ultimate spray wax heavily as a drying aid with fantastic results, leaving behind a slick hydrophobic surface that easily lasts to the next wash. 👍

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад

      Absolutely, I do want to dive in more on drying aids in a separate video, but I've used both Ultimate Quik Detailer and Ultimate Quik Wax as drying aids over the years with good results, and I've used both the new formulas wet on the test panel and dried with the microfibers with good results.
      Ultimate Quik Wax is definitely affected by water being on the paint, so on bare paint if I've got water on there and I'm using it wet for the first time, I'm not going to see that more impressive water behavior, I've got to use it fully dry first to build up that foundational layer. On top of a healthy wax/sealant/coating, it's going to work fine as a drying aid.
