- Is it possible to beat Hardcore Nuzlocke using only Pokemon species beginning with the letter N? [It's Not] So, I'll be manually adding in all 9 N Pokemon from Gens 1-4, to see if I can beat a Hardcore Nuzlocke with them!

The Hardcore Nuzlocke rules for this challenge:
1. Manually add in one "N" Pokemon as the starter, and one additional before each gym (9 total). Pokemon order is determined by me, and natures, abilities, and IVs are randomized.
2. If a Pokemon faints, it must be boxed for the rest of the run.
3. For Gym Battles, must be at the highest Pokemon's level cap at the start of the fight. For the Elite Four, must use Karen's Houndoom level as the cap.
4. No items in battle.
5. Play on Set Mode.
6. No Legendaries.
7.Pokemon cannot be evolved if further evolutions don't start with N (Numel can't evolve into Camerup).

I think this run is still a valid Nuzlocke, because you’re the one who gets to decide the rules. It’s all about you having fun after all.
I disagree with the rules being valid, but I’ll always agree that a game needs to be fun first and foremost.

I agree, especially with a niche challenge like this. Sometimes you gotta play smart and hard. Not just hard.
Without the "special rules" this would just turn into overleveling the 5 available in the base game lol
@@jcnot9712 But the rules are valid as nuzlockes are self imposed rules. You dont call a run invalid just because they dont use dupes clause or something like that do you? Plus its his challenge, he makes the rules.

18:05 Earthquake hits Pokemon using Dig. You could have just used Earthquake instead since you were faster.
I think this could be possible in Pokémon Sword: Nickit, noibat, seedot, natu, ninetales, hoothoot and ninjask are available super early, either in the first routes or in the wild area
The thing is since you get so many early encounters in swsh, the majority of runs with the alphabet theme would be in those games and it would get repetitive real quick

@@miscellaneoof Not really, he's been able to pull of the majority of the letters without swsh. When he arrives to letters like X then its definetely not doable. I just wanna say that there was a way to complete the challenge without involving hacking

Nidoking and Nidoqueen are both basically capable of soloing Red/Blue/Yellow even just catching them as Nidoran in-game on the route west of Veridian.
Ninetales can also wall the psychics since it has a busted 100 Special in gen 1. And since gen 1 AI is broken, Lorelei isn't scary at all.
You would want to do Yellow. Nidoran are available earlier and they learn double kick for Brock.
Even with a level cap and no items in battle?
@@ConnorKrohnicles Yes, even then. Especially Yellow where at least one of them learns Double Kick before the Brock split, and especially because you can get a Moon Stone in Mount Moon to evolve them basically as soon as they level into Nidorino/Nidorina.
I think this might be considerably easier to do in Crystal, because of the lower power level in that game. The only modification I see necessary is replacing the Cyndaquil starter with a Vulpix, as it's only available in Silver (I mean you could just do it in Silver, but Crystal is just better) and I doubt you can squeeze past Falkner very easily with Hoothoot alone since you don't get Hypnosis early.
less encounters overall sadly would have the opposite effect and make it way harder
4:40 Kanto cities are colors (and the starting town is the Pallet…literally). Johto cities are named after flowers/plants! New Bark, Cherrygrove, Violet, Olivine (Olive), etc..
I'll always advocate for having fun options over religiously sticking to the nuzlocke encounter rules, and it's not like any of the guys you added were overpowered in the slightest. This Nuzlocke is totally valid in my eyes.

This is a nice alternative for the more uncommon letters. It would be nice to see a letter K nuzlocke be tried again if you ever go back with the new format

This was entertaining, but I'd also be interested to know more about exactly why it isn't possible conventionally, similar to how it was done in a couple of previous videos.
I think it's because the encounters till the second gym aren't enough to take out scyther or other gyms and most of the Pokémons are just avaliable after the E4 or later in the game, which would make this run almost impossible or very hard to do anyway.

I'm not entirely sure WHY it wouldn't count as a Nuzlocke? You're catching pokemon beginning with N and if they faint they die. That's like the rules.
He's not technically catching them
For future runs I think if it's possible to get a encounter you shouldn't hack in a new pokemon
I think 9 pokemon is fair, but for example instead of nincada you should have caught the Hoothoot for Noctowl instead
Fair suggestion! I only didn’t since Hoothoot doesn’t start with N, and I prioritized actual N Pokémon

Instead of an x only nuzlocke, you should just do the Xatu only run so you don't have to reset after every death

Btw, since you mentioned the "X" run: If you feel like you still want to make impossible runs possible for the letterlockes, one idea is to not follow species clause. For example for the "X" run allow yourself to start with Xatu, and then catch any and all available Natu/Xatu throughout the game as extra encounters, without worrying about dupes.( I don't actually know if this makes the run possble for any game, just throwing out an idea for any potential future run with way too few encounters :P )

@@Neo_BonesYou can get Natu/Xatu in a few different areas in HGSS, and in ORAS too, but the problem is _when/how_ you get them. Sw/Sh have a few different places in the Wild Area that have them though.

I enjoyed the run, even if you don't classify it as an official nuzlocke by Rylocke standards. It was interesting to see these N pokemon tackle some difficult battles. Thank you for another great video!

Yellow version could be easily done. Two nidoran before Brock and they both learn double kick at the level cap.

As annoying as it would have been, I think doing the voltorb flip would have been ideal to get an ice beam TM. Not that voltorb flip isn't fun, but it would have taken a lot of time.

I know you can't catch it legitimately during main-game but I kinda hope you manually add in Xurkitree midway through in the X Nuzlocke. Otherwise it doesn't really feel much different than any other "One Pokemon Nuzlocke". I mean, it's not a valid run, but neither is this N one, so...
You could literally have avoided the wipeout to Lance by using ice beam instead of Blizzard
I mean looking at Violet and Goldenrod, sure it seems like they're colours, but they are also flowers, and the rest are trees and plants and such
You could have used earthquake when Hitmontop used dig (in the Bruno fight) im pretty sure it still connects. Its a special interaction. Or maybe it wasnt a thing in gen 4?

I'm just waiting for you to do one of these challenges in a different language version so the pool of pokemon is completely different because they have different names in that language

With Bruno you could’ve used earthquake against the hitmontop after it used dig. It would’ve hit

How about Hardcore Nuzlocke using only Pokemon whos names are contane the letter X, like VulpiX, ShinX, AXew, EggeXcute.
If this run was german, you could let nincada evolve and keep the shedinja, since its name is ninjatom. That would change the rest of the challenge too, but I had to point this out

And any mons when their names start with Q after they're romanized or anglecized from Asian languages. Or if they start with Q in other European languages. Basically, find them where you can and turn the video into a linguistics lesson

Unfortunate that there's so little encounters without having extra rules. But I'd still say he deserves credit for trying. Although I feel that Gen 6 games would have given him the best chance.

BUT!
For the X run do it in Sword/Shield so you can use Xatu, Xerneas, and Xurkitree. Since you'll be only using two/three pokemon a legendary or two is fair game.
And if you get Xatu’s Magic Bounce, then strategies can become interesting.

Obviously you don't owe us anything, but my feedback is that I would have preferred you drop the hardcore part and still used the normal encounters, such as over leveling Hoothoot for Falkner

I would have laughed if you played like an Unova game and just did one of those "Roleplay" runs and legit used mons N used..
But now that you are inserting mons.. maybe redo letters that you counted as outright impossible?
The "X" only run... delay this series as long as possible, hopefully a later gen adds more X mons.. or you just accept the fact you would have to use a legendary and an ultra beast lol

Xatu isn't the only X Pokemon. There's also Xcadrill and Xploud
No, they start with E. Excadrill and Exploud.
It's pointless to have a level cap, if you make sure you gonna surpass it with all your pokemons.
Then just play without it 🤷
