I stan Wonho since his MX days and I swear even in the interviews he does there ALWAYS has to be a question about his body. But to be fair, Wonho does seem to play a lot into it with all the content he provides to his fans, so I don’t think he minds it, on the contrary. But I do think that it’s super weird to stan an artist just for their body. And he’s so talented too, he literally makes ALL his music, but not many talk about that.

I always felt bad for Bahiyyih since gp999, I liked her and thought she had potential but I could tell that her own fans were pushing her off a cliff. She didn’t have a lot of training or experience going into the show and her supporters kept pushing her to a pedestal that was unattainable and they still do. Your take on how the girl crush concept is held in such high regards compared to any other concept is so true. I even noticed that with the hate IVE gets for their soft femininity concept. They are called untalented because of their stage performances when actually their concept does not entail them doing backflips and swinging their hands all over the place. Their choreos are meant to be delicate and elegant which is difficult to achieve too, yet when other groups do girl crush, they get praised for it just because their stage is more energetic even if in reality their execution is not good. And I see this mostly coming from western fans where a more intense form of femininity is popular nowadays, because koreans and that part of the world love IVE and their soft approach to femininity, that’s why they resonated so much with the public, there is a market for that. It’s kinda like the stereotype we see pushed here in the west in movies and tv shows where it’s always the pretty, delicate and feminine girl that is seen as dumb, untalented and b*tchy and the edgy, more masculine girl is the good one. Why can’t we just appreciate how diverse this generation of girl groups is and call it a day?
Yeah you’re absolutely right and it’s so ridiculous for people to expect ive to have crazy dance breaks and things like that, because such choreos would just be SO weird and out of place for their elegant concept. They have proven they can pull off hard hitting choreos if they want, but just because they don’t usually do them it doesn’t mean they are any less talented, it’s just a matter of concept.
Gfriend, IZ*ONE and Apink have also done feminine concepts, but they actually have members with talent. Like Gfriend have hard dances and all of them can dance and Yuju is one of the best kpop vocalists. Apink have Eunji and Namjoo who are decent vocalists and the others can also sing. IZ*ONE even if they had deadweight like Hyewon and one and only most overrated Wonyoung they still had Yuri who could sing and Chaeyeon and Eunbi who are great dancers, they also had Yena who is a decent allrounder. While IVE does not have any particular talented person. The most talented are Yujin and Liz and even then their talent is not that special. Liz and Yujin are just lead vocalist material and Gaeul is mid for a main dancer. The rensning members especially Wonyoung and Leeseo have no talents.

Not everybody is born with incredible vocal abilities but that does not mean they can’t become singers. Some of the most beautiful music out there is sung and created by mediocre vocalists and it still manages to touch people. If talent is the only thing that you care about then go watch talent competitions or artists that have what you want and leave the rest for the ones that enjoy it. As for the IVE girls, they are all at least decent and some have a lot of potential to develop further.

The part about rigging is so true, even in award ceremonies. In Mamas for example, I once saw comments about how one specific group wasn't nominated for best male group category and calling Mnet "snakes" and "riggers" for not nominating them, when in reality their album sales and digitals were weak compared to the already nominated groups. As long as your faves don't win anything, every award is rigged.
And also the 8th one. Yes, TXT of course got a lot of attention fir their debut because they are under BTS company. But I also think that if a group truly makes bad music and doesn’t stand out, they will genuinely not make it far doesn’t matter what company they are from (like some JYP groups). So of course the company’s image is a good booster but its also very important to be talented and able to compete with other groups. TXT proved that.

As I stated earlier, their Spotify is popping off and they are known among idols for their performances. I agree on the Wonho situation. His vocals are amazing and he proved that with some of hi songs like "Lose". I will admit that Wonho is hella attractive but he's more than just his looks. The only time I've ever spoken up about his looks is when ppl were bashing the photos he was posting of himself on Instagram when it was his personal account for one and it's his body and if he chooses to post pictures of himself in more revealing things then that's his choice and his choice alone and ppl just need to stfu and let him do his thing. And with the Bahiyyih thing, I feel like she can never really catch a break. I feel like when you say that a fandom is setting up their fave, you’re kind of in advertently saying that because of the fact that the fandom is setting up their fave that the hate that person is receiving as somewhat justified whether you meant that or not, that’s just the implication that comes off. It's true that fans hold girl crush/badass concepts way higher than songs like stereotype/colouring book/stay this way/knock knock. Just some examples. Soft feminine concepts are so pretty and so is cute and bubbly. People used to love putting oh my girl into the "cute" concept only and how they hate it. But once those groups do a badass concept, they hype it up so much.its 2023 and we still have stans who hate cute, feminine, elegant, soft and bubbly concepts. Groups don't have to break their knees(rip Itzy) or neck and back for you like what. People were saying how stay this way was boring compared to DM which is fkn dumb. I agree with the unpopular opinion that groups that are popular can drop anything and it will do well. I notice this year groups like Aespa, Stayc, Twice and Red Velvet were under fire for releasing “bad comebacks” but people were praising (no offense to BP) Blackpink for their comeback of Pink Venom and Shut down???? Shutdown is a good song and all but it’s nothing new in the Blackpink song book and Pink Venom isn’t that very good to be praised to the gods because YG finally let BP out of the dungeon. Girls, Talk that Talk, Beautiful Monster, and Birthday weren’t bad comebacks for y’all to be saying these groups have fallen off. I’m just genuinely confused by kpop fans.

You make it sound like groups choose their concepts though. The reality very cute concepts are done to appeal to female fans, which are the fans who are mostly here for the music (at least for the girl groups). The cute concepts are largely to entertain men and it’s more about the fantasy than the music or the dancing. When the cute is done well, like some of Red Velvets cute concepts people like it.

As a Wonho ult I could never agree more to this!! It's literally so upsetting. Of course I'm over here saying that I could die a happy death it that man crushes me between his thighs but has anyone ever thought about that his dancing is insanely smooth and fluent for someone of his size? What about his angelic vocals? Like, literally, that man has a voice crafted on the heaven's altar and all I see is ppl speaking about his body only. When he came to Europe during his first solo Europe tour last year I went because I wanted one of my ults to be my very first Kpop concert experience and it was absolutely magical 💙 One picture of him my sister took during the concert is to this day my phone wallpaper and that won't change until he comes back the next time. There's not a single song in his discography that I don't like and that's only the case with Ateez, one of my other ults. Not to mention that he's also active in the production of his songs! I stan Wonho since his MX days and I swear even in the interviews he does there ALWAYS has to be a question about his body. But to be fair, Wonho does seem to play a lot into it with all the content he provides to his fans, so I don’t think he minds it, on the contrary. But I do think that it’s super weird to stan an artist just for their body. And he’s so talented too, he literally makes ALL his music, but not many talk about that.

Your take on how the girl crush concept is held in such high regards compared to any other concept is so true. I even noticed that with the hate IVE gets for their soft femininity concept. They are called untalented because of their stage performances when actually their concept does not entail them doing backflips and swinging their hands all over the place. Their choreos are meant to be delicate and elegant which is difficult to achieve too, yet when other groups do girl crush, they get praised for it just because their stage is more energetic even if in reality their execution is not good. And I see this mostly coming from western fans where a more intense form of femininity is popular nowadays, because koreans and that part of the world love IVE and their soft approach to femininity, that’s why they resonated so much with the public, there is a market for that. It’s kinda like the stereotype we see pushed here in the west in movies and tv shows where it’s always the pretty, delicate and feminine girl that is seen as dumb, untalented and b*tchy and the edgy, more masculine girl is the good one. Yeah you’re absolutely right and it’s so ridiculous for people to expect ive to have crazy dance breaks and things like that, because such choreos would just be SO weird and out of place for their elegant concept. They have proven they can pull off hard hitting choreos if they want, but just because they don’t usually do them it doesn’t mean they are any less talented, it’s just a matter of concept.
Gfriend, IZ*ONE and Apink have also done feminine concepts, but they actually have members with talent. Like Gfriend have hard dances and all of them can dance and Yuju is one of the best kpop vocalists. Apink have Eunji and Namjoo who are decent vocalists and the others can also sing. IZ*ONE even if they had deadweight like Hyewon and one and only most overrated Wonyoung they still had Yuri who could sing and Chaeyeon and Eunbi who are great dancers, they also had Yena who is a decent allrounder. While IVE does not have any particular talented person. The most talented are Yujin and Liz and even then their talent is not that special. Liz and Yujin are just lead vocalist material and Gaeul is mid for a main dancer. The rensning members especially Wonyoung and Leeseo have no talents.

Not everybody is born with incredible vocal abilities but that does not mean they can’t become singers. If talent is the only thing that you care about then go watch talent competitions or artists that have what you want and leave the rest for the ones that enjoy it. As for the IVE girls, they are all at least decent and some have a lot of potential to develop further.

The part about rigging is so true, even in award ceremonies. In Mamas for example, I once saw comments about how one specific group wasn't nominated for best male group category and calling Mnet "snakes" and "riggers" for not nominating them, when in reality their album sales and digitals were weak compared to the already nominated groups. Wonho is an incredibly talented idol. The man can sing, dance, on top of that his stage presence is powerful without trying too hard.
I agree on the Wonho situation. His vocals are amazing and he proved that with some of hi songs like "Lose". I will admit that Wonho is hella attractive but he's more than just his looks. The only time I've ever spoken up about his looks is when ppl were bashing the photos he was posting of himself on Instagram when it was his personal account for one and it's his body and if he chooses to post pictures of himself in more revealing things then that's his choice and his choice alone and ppl just need to stfu and let him do his thing. It's true that fans hold girl crush/badass concepts way higher than songs like stereotype/colouring book/stay this way/knock knock. Just some examples. Soft feminine concepts are so pretty and so is cute and bubbly. People used to love putting oh my girl into the "cute" concept only and how they hate it. But once those groups do a badass concept, they hype it up so much.its 2023 and we still have stans who hate cute, feminine, elegant, soft and bubbly concepts. Groups don't have to break their knees(rip Itzy) or neck and back for you like what. People were saying how stay this way was boring compared to DM which is fkn dumb. They can't have a DM 2.0. same with red velvet, since psycho, fans and non fans have kept saying their recent comebacks are bad cuz they wanted a concept like psycho. They don't care if the song is good. It's been like this for years for so many groups. I'm glad groups like twice and fromis_9 didn't listen and just stayed true to their concepts and style while gradually moving to more elegant mature concepts on their own speed. This is not an attack to Bahiyyih but i guarantee that if any other girl was in her place and got the same amount of exposure she got on GP999 she would have never made it. Luckily Bahiyyih automatically got attention because of her brother which does not mean she is undeserving of her spot in the line up. She's talented and i'm personally happy she made it but there's no point in pretending Kai being her brother didn't contribute to her initial fame at all.

You make it sound like groups choose their concepts though. The reality very cute concepts are done to appeal to female fans, which are the fans who are mostly here for the music (at least for the girl groups). The cute concepts are largely to entertain men and it’s more about the fantasy than the music or the dancing. When the cute is done well, like some of Red Velvets cute concepts people like it.

precious korean groups are dead (gfriend or lovelyz for example). annoyingness & obtrusiveness rule the kpop business. this constant "wanting to stand out" and "be cool" at all costs is so tiring. this "i-am-a-vip-behavior" is embarrassing. of course there are always bright spots in between (nice, reasonable, down-to-earth, educated idols, choreographers, producers, staff, ceo's)...but kpop itself will no longer exist in 20 years, or will only eke out a niche existence.

As a Wonho ult I could never agree more to this!! It's literally so upsetting. Of course I'm over here saying that I could die a happy death it that man crushes me between his thighs but has anyone ever thought about that his dancing is insanely smooth and fluent for someone of his size? What about his angelic vocals? Like, literally, that man has a voice crafted on the heaven's altar and all I see is ppl speaking about his body only. When he came to Europe during his first solo Europe tour last year I went because I wanted one of my ults to be my very first Kpop concert experience and it was absolutely magical 💙 One picture of him my sister took during the concert is to this day my phone wallpaper and that won't change until he comes back the next time. There's not a single song in his discography that I don't like and that's only the case with Ateez, one of my other ults. Not to mention that he's also active in the production of his songs! And he made a ring once and engraved it with the birthday date of us Wenees and when he enlisted he made a post promising to not take the necklace with the ring on it off until he's back. I personally think they're very talented and i wouldn't say they're mid, but their concept and music are definitely not appealing to the general public as much as those from other 4th gen girl groups. They're gonna disband in about a year since they're a temporary group and i hope that after the disbandment the girls will move on to bigger things
