exactly! one example i can think of is leeseo. shes the maknae in ive but she has a younger sibling. if you follow their content, there are moments where she takes care of the other members. in award shows, she kept on holding in her tears, so she can take care of others especially their leader yujin who cried a lot. another fun fact is that yujin is the leader of ive but shes actually the maknae of her family! this makes yujin and leeseo's dynamic special because sometimes the one who takes care of the other switches between them. it's so cute.
the maknae thing is so true. maknae just means the member is the youngest, its not a personality type. sure eunchae is has a fun bright personality and I understand why people like it, but that's not because shes "the maknaest maknae", its because its her. maknae is not an archetype so it makes no sense to compare her and say, leesoo for their personalities and say that "eunchae is a better maknae"
I can bet if Eunchae was not the maknae and either the second or third oldest then people would have said, "She's too childish for her age." It's really suck how people judge a person based on their ages and not personality.
I absolutely adore Eunchae, but I'm really tired of people using her personality to bash Leeseo. I don't follow IVE all that closely, but as far as I can tell, everything she's ever been in a "controversy" for is no big deal, normal for her age, or not even her fault. People need to let idols have their own personalities and accept that if they're literally growing up on camera, there's going to be record of them doing awkward things and that's normal. I can think of fifty things I did when I was younger that were 10x more "cringe" than anything she's ever done, but I had the benefit of not being judged online by a bunch of strangers for it.
The maknae one PERIOD! And I LOVE your last point about established groups and chart performance because I agree. Imagine acting like Twice needs to still prove themselves chart wise... or BTS, or EXO or ANY of those already established acts that have already done the damn thing. From nr. 1 singles to daesangs, millions of albums sold and stadium concerts, IMAGINE acting like these groups ‘fell off’ just because the general public doesn’t show the same kind of interest in them. Because chart performance, especially in SK has very much to do with the interest the general public has in an act, a fandom cannot carry alone chart success considering how the charts work there + as their fans grow older, they don’t care about streaming and buying the same way as when they were young, they start simply enjoying the group, they leave the ‘competitive’ spirit behind as they mature. However, losing the GP’s interest is VERY normal for an artist that’s been succesful for a very long time, at some point they will move into the second phase of their career where it’s mostly their established fanbase that will carry their career further. There’s NOTHING embarrassing about that, every musical act suffers that at some point, not just in kpop. So please, just stfu and show some respect to the artists that came before and stop comparing them to the newer groups just because they chart better. It’s NORMAL for that to happen, how else would new groups make themselves seen if the ones that came before don’t move to the side? There’s nothing shameful or sad about that, it’s normality.
Especially because some of these groups are no longer active, for example BigBang, or are mostly active as soloists, for example exo, snsd, shinee, so of course the general public will move onto newer and more active groups. Also, like you mentioned, the age of the fandom plays a huge role because most people that stan 2nd gen or early 3rd gen groups are probably adults with a job (maybe a family too) and it's no surprise they will not be as active as teenager stans that follow 4th gen artists. It's not that deep but kpop stans somehow just don't seem to get it...

I think the reason why people still talk about Wonyoungs "favoritism" is because of the popularity difference between her and her members. As a non dive but casual listener I still see Wonyoung as the face of the group but that isn't because of SSE pushing her more it's because she's been in the public eye longer and was able to make a name for herself before the group debuted.
Well as a dive I see fans of everyone, and most dives like them all, as they keep bias wrecking😂 The whole point of wony as a decree is that she draws attention to the group and then people discover the others.

I honestly always found this maknae thing cringy af, especially that we have now 09 liners that are about to début so this hype you get for being the youngest is temporary and might give you an identity crises once you will have younger people around. Remember how people were obsessed about Tzuyu and Yuna for being 15-16 but almost no one cared about them when they turned 19, because they only attracted à fanbase that loved them for being underage, which is à thing that wont last, especially that now groups début every 2 months so it wont be too long before euncha and leeseo will be among the oldest idols in the industry. I don't watch any of IVE's behind the scenes, variety guestings, lives, etc stuff so idk their offstage personalities. But I do watch their stages and the way Wonyoung pulls focus naturally is insane. Like I watch the group fancams to see the full effect of their choreographies and I find my attention being drawn to her all the time. That may be why people think she is "favored". She catches attention even when she is not at the center or not the one singing. She is just THAT charming.

What cringes me the most is when people say someone is better because they’re acting their age. What does it even mean to act your age? Personality is the main factor that influences people’s behavior. Sure, your age can play a role in how you’re gonna react to certain things, but not every 16 year old is the same, just like not every 60 year old is the same. Even when two people share the same age, they’re still gonna act differently if they share different personalities. There isn’t a right or wrong way to be a certain age.

I appreciate groups like Ive for staying true to themselves. They are fun but they don't go out of their way just to be chaotic grouped to be loved by everyone and feel relatable. People have started to forget that not all people are crackheads and that doesn't mean they aren't real. Chaotic people aren't the only real people in the world. I think RedVelvet also has the same issue. They are fun when they want. They never fed those fan service stuffs.
About the solo stanning, I totally agree people seem to think solo staning is the same as being an akgae(toxic solo stanning/hating on other members) which it definitely isn't. For instance armys keep bringing up the time Taehyung said "please love the 7 of us equally". Yeah he did say that to prevent any akgae behavior within the fandom but that doesn't mean you are obligated to pretend you love each & everyone of them equally even if you actually don't love them the same. Hell I've seen many so called "armys" using taehyung's quote but when it comes to taehyung himself they disregard it completely. It's better to bias people as you please while being respectful to other members than pretending you love them all when that's actually not the case. It's honestly so very sad that one needs to put up a pretentious act in order to be accepted as a part of the fandom.

Big 4 companies do have privilege , stans of big 4 groups especially company stans gotta stop trying to prove their faves do not have an advantage due to their company. More likely to have company stans, bigger budget, more opportunities, etc. That's not even a bad thing tbh, but when some company stans try to drag groups from smaller labels by inventing shit like Kakao privilege (note: doesn't exist, Kakao M has subsidiaries but labels are autonomous for better or worse). Like there isn't collaboration and interactions for example between Starship and High Up, IST, etc. just cause they are under Kakao the way there is between HYBE and their labels. 3. Kep1er's success was hampered definitely by the music not being received well (I do like some of their songs though). Though much worrying trend for them is the album sales being far less than debut which may be due to the conflicts in the fandom alienating solo stans and discouraging possible fans. Wadada actually charted as well so there was attention early on, and highest album sales was with their debut album. 4. Maknaes are different, no such thing as a maknae personality. Think though its because some people hate Leeseo because of whatever stupid delusion they have on their minds. One of the worst things was getting into Kpop twitter last year and finding out all the shit people have been throwing at IVE (IVE fan and IZ*ONE btw).
Tell me about ittt I started lurking on twitter a few months ago and while I knew IVE was getting a lot of hate since the award seasons, I had NO IDEA how much and how horrible some people are to them over there. The dive community on twitter is very small nowadays, I saw some dives saying how a lot of them left when the hate train was in full swing because it was so toxic to be on there during those times.
They claim favoritism, but they only focus on Wonyoung "Wonyoung did this, Wonyoung has those lines, Wonyoung blah blah". If you're so mad about it, go talk about the other members! They also have lines, screen time, solo activities... But you choose to ignore them. Stop being obsessed and leave Wonyoung breathe for a bit.
The maknaest maknae thing is a bullshit. What if someone is the oldest of like 7 siblings but then happened to be the youngest in the group? You guys expect them to suddenly act like a bubble younger sibling type when they've been raised all their lives as the dependable oldest? 😂

About the big company "privilege" thing, it's always funny how some people think that groups from small companies automatically deserve more because they don't have big company privilege. It's ridiculous because they seem to think that the members of groups in big companies were born in the big company, like a rich kid is born into a rich family. In reality, most of the artists who debut in the big companies got into the big company through hard work and winning in very highly competitive audition processes. Where do the people who couldn't compete successfully to get into big companies go? They go to small companies, generally speaking. So basically thinking that a small company group deserves more because they don't have "big company privilege" is like saying that an Olympic athlete with a bronze medal deserve more because she doesn't have "gold medal privilege". It's like saying that an athlete on a major league sports team has "big team privilege" and an athlete on a minor league sports team deserves more because they don't have "big team privilege". You can't reasonably talk about privilege, without first talking about how much work and talent it took for an athlete to get accepted by a major league team in the first place. And you can't reasonably talk about "big company privilege" of a Kpop group or idol, without first considering how much talent, hard work and competition they had to go through to get accepted into the big company in the first place.
Now see... I kinda have to disagree. Getting in the big4 is NOT just because those idols are the best in the industry as you make it seem. Some of the idols in the big companies also have mediocre or bellow skills while a lot of idols in smaller companies have excellent skills too. It’s not just about talent and work ethic to get in the big4, there are other factors too. A lot of these idols also get scouted by agencies therefore they sign with them right away, they don’t audition to all of them. And even the ones that did audition and didn’t pass at a big4 agency can still sign with a smaller one and improve tremendously to the point that they can out-perform some big4 idols in the end. It’s more nuanced then how you make it seem.
honestly, the only one i disagree a bit on is the last one. maybe the charts don't take away the relevance of groups that have already established a name for themselves (bts, blackpink, twice, etc.) but it also shows how well they hold up domestically and internationally; after all the charts represent what people are liking at the moment (not counting mass buying and playlists left overnight to increase streaming). look at beyoncé who released a song ("break my soul") 25 years into her career and still made it to the top of the billboard hot 100. i agree that maybe for big acts "they're not that important" but charts show if they're still welcome by the general public (as well as being an "achievement") and that's something.
actually beyonce suffers from it as well , many people claimed when she win the grammy this year that they were not even aware she released a song . and its totally normal she has already gained that level of success doesnt need to prove anyone her power .
Actually SK's public is way too impatient in terms of music. They just move on from a particular group way too fast and they prefer to listen to rookies nowadays just because they have released songs recently. All the relevant groups like BTS, Blackpink, Twice, Exo, Big Bang are still the names that come into people's minds outside Korea when they think about 'Kpop'. And not to mention that these groups happen to top iTunes charts and barge into Spotify playlists very fastly. I think that's enough to show their relevancy.
Kind of agree too. People like to dismiss these charts becuase they don't like the idea of their favs not being as sucessu6in their home country of Korea. Charts also see if they are getting new fans. Like my ults Monsta X. Even tho they are a established 7 year group, they don't chart well from the beginning but every single year they have grown and got better and better at charts. It should how they are still relavent music wise alone. Not just in fame.
@@TanishaRoy171 You can't call them impatient. I've said this once before but I'll say it again. Kpop in Korea is different from Kpop in the rest of the world. In Korea all these music shows and MVs are shown on their local tv channels so Kpop fans in Korea will be exposed to more than one group. Outside of Korea we can only see them on the internet and bc it's the internet we will mostly watch the group that we know. So when new groups debut they get attention. Rn Kpop is in the 4th gen and groups in this generation are more active than previous gen groups. So they will be more seen on public tv than older groups.

what i think what happened with the maknae especially with eunchae was that since garam left, and there was this random burst of needing to give her sometime to be special because everyone else was special in some way as in chae and kkura are both ex-izone; yunjin was in produce, is american/speak eng, and main vocalist; then kazuha was a professional ballerina. So Eunchae was the only one not "special" (aside from garam but her scandal gave her the spotlight) The train of best maknae never really exist until eunchae bc people needed something to brag about her.
Michael Jackson doesn't chart anymore and he's still relevant AF 🙂 Charts isn't everything (even coming from me who was a Swiftie and was obsessed with it) Their artistry and quality of their work wont degrade by charts, also look at some "top" music... they're garbage.
its crazy to me that a lot of wonyoungs biggest haters are ive stans. the calls come from inside the house. without her love dive would not have been the title track of their comeback , we wouldnt have gotten an amazing song like mine , etc… the girl has an amazing ear for music due to being in the industry so long , and having a musical background since childhood before she was a trainee. she has the BEST stage presence in fourth gen (i mean shes a former izone member) , and is literally the sweetest. kpop stans are weird , they treat her the same way they treated jennie.
Personally speaking, i've never seen a real dive hating on Wonyoung, it was always some token stans that pretended to be dives but never really cared about any of the girls. With that being said, i absolutely agree with you, she contributes so much to the group in terms of song writing, stage presence and personality. I could never imagine IVE without her. Kpop stans really have to open their eyes and realize that she is not the untalented girl they're making her out to be.

i agree with the maknae point, but i will say this : as the youngest member of a group, you are, most of the time assigned a cute and innocent personality, and you get babied a lot more by fans and sometimes even staff and company, often because being young is associated with those things, which i think is also the reason as to why idols born in the same year are treated differently based on their group age difference ( ex: jungkook vs bang chan ) . my point being that as an idol you dont always get to act the way you want to ( ownyoung for example changed her behaviour in izone vs ive, and i think her position in both groups probaly had a big role in that. sorry for the lenghthy comment btw.
Wonyoung didn't necessarily change from Izone to Ive, she just grew up. Mind you she debuted at 14 and now she's 19...it would actually be pretty weird if a 19 year old person acted the same way they did at 14. She didn't change, she just matured like everyone does and this has little to do with the fact she's no longer the youngest.
The thing about eunchae is people just love her bcs she's just being herself. When sh gets so many love people from other fandom, specially dive themselves likes to bring eunchae into 'the best maknae' discussion. Eunchae just living her life with people who adore her (the members, her closest people. The fans adore her bcs of her. And then other fandom butt in saying how one is better than others. Please god, they were just kids! Leave them alone. If you seen many discussion about it, there you'll found how dive is the one who like to bring this matter. It was such a hillarious thing to me. They didn't blame people for hating leeseo (all of sudden she fall off love, your typical internet people) then instead of defend her they choose to broke athor idol all of sudden? They says 'it's not fair how people love eunchae!! She never gets bullied! It's unfair that she suddenly received loves!" What the heck? Of course i don't agree with the hate that woonyoung and leeseo is getting. They can act however they want, and actually i thought they are cute when doing cute stuff. I actually think that eunchae might fall off love too someday. You can't just being the loved one all the time. Look at many 'national crush/national sister' celebrity you knew (who were adored by a whole nation). IU fall off love couple times, and there is suzy too. They just doing nothing amd suddenly gets hate for how they gain weight, their loose weight, their album concept, their love life. It's just so fu*ked up. I'm just praying when people fall out of love to eunchae, she was already mature enough (mentally and phisically) to not be bothered by sich nonsense.
the privilege one yes cause people who stan groups not from the big 3 act like that is the only reason they are successful the members had to train and all so yes it did help but not tones and it can be a double edged sword cus u get compared to the previous idols and you have higher expectations and stuff but also the way company stans try to deny the privilege is so funny like just accept it. No, you don't get a trophy for being under a big company or vice versa.
It's a bigger privilege than you think from what I guage from Ur comment. But yh people should not hate becuase of it. And after like 3-4 years it doesn't matter THAT much. U should watch peak time to see how privilege works. Some of my idols didn't have mirrors to train with, funds to continue, and even abused by the company. Normalize removing the word “normalize” from dictionaries. There is a reason everybody is at a different level in life and it’s all impart to their own actions. All these levels are important for a balanced society and for once’s own mindset and growth. If anything was truly to be “normalized” it would have to be: logic, common sense, rationality, understanding, discussion, diversity, community, others morals, traditions and religions, differences etc. Putting “normalize” at the beginning of a sentence does absolutely nothing. It tends to actually make things far worse. What you claim to want to “normalize” is so easily possible to be turned to something you’d like not to be “normalized” but because it is now you’ve to counter it with another one of your “normalization’s” to ensure we “fix” the problem. It’s a cycle that won’t end To truly balance out issues like the ones mentioned, you put forth common sense, logic, rationality, understanding etc because these are the base, the foundations that ask the questions as to why things exist, why they’re here, will it be necessary for a productive world, who’s benefiting etc. “Normalizing” does none of that. All it asks is that you view something in a different light, the light of someone else. Instead of reflecting and getting a better understanding What does that mean? And how does it help? There is an issue and you want to counter it was something to make it balanced. So you throw “normalize” in there not realizing that the new “normal” has drastic effects on society. This is why people ask for explanations and fully thought out thoughts, not jumbled words for an easy solution. People disdain b*llying because it was mean because 97% of the time it was people being Frank, blunt and up front about all the issues these crybabies wanted to ignore, and it harmed the crybabies because they internalized emotion rather than put together why they think that way. It’d force the weak to do some internalized growth and it actually did for a vast majority of people. This is not excusing the behaviour, but this is to say that people should be more blunt when utilizing rationality, logic, common sense etc with others to actually promote some thought rather than a constant set of combativeness. If more kpop fans began to ask questions, demand the full chain of thought, have someone break things down (because if they know it all this step should be quite simple) and all n all bring discussion that makes others forfeit their right to being a child we may get somewhere. People don’t want to let go of their immaturity and naivety because it gives them a shield and an excuse. But until then, telling others to “normalize”anything does absolutely nothing because in the moment we’ll jump on and applaud. But it’s a momentary fix. Things change and the issue you had with once is either worse or countered with the same issue of a different colour. It’s just common sense, rational, understanding, awareness etc all the basics you learn in school. These are the foundation to helping any and every society on earth with actual science to back it up, that shows how well these qualities work over simple making something “normal”
The general public forgot about kep1er. Hell, i think some post Gp999 have more buzz around them in korea. Billlie, iLY:1, Limelight, are doing great in korea with post gp999 contestants. The korean public really matters more than int fans, but it seems that wakeone doesn’t care about this

I always though the idea of "streaming" was stupid, like hell, do you really not have anything better to do than stream ur faves? Is that all ur about? I understand the need of supporting ur faves, yes, but if thats the case, just do content. Guides help a lot, some edits maybe, or some viral moments. Its just so stupid, people fighting over numbers when all u need to know is " my faves do sick music n i like it".
I swear all of these points are so true. Like I see people calling older 3rd gen groups and 2nd gen groups like EXO flops just because they're inactive or haven't been in the charts recently? As if EXO isn't the second biggest bg in the third gen and possibly the second biggest bg ever. Just because they're not in the GP's spotlight rn doesn't mean they're flopping off the face of the earth, their impact is still there. And the whole privilege thing is so true. "maknaest maknae""maknae of the year" just all started as inside joke within the fandom but other stans used this as a personality and compare her to other maknaes. i agree w the maknae thing but imo eunchae's special and a breath of fresh air in kpop esp in this gen. she managed to charm everyone just bc of her sunshine and adorable personality, and she's very capable, hardworking and talented too. anw as her stan, i'm just enjoying this phase of everyone liking/adoring eunchae, letting her enjoy her teenage life as an idol. other maknaes don't get the same treatment as her sadly

1. If you’re an Army and you don’t support their solo activities equally you’re not an Army PERIOD. Of course you like some songs and concepts more and some less but what we’re mad about is favoritism. You’re a fan of the whole group and you should support all the members. Thank you with the first opinion people like what they like and i hate seeing people get jumped for saying it and being told to keep it to themselves i see no problem with saying you don't like a song as long as you aren't being rude. Like I personally couldn't get into set me free pt2 because the amount of autotune but enjoyed the rest of the songs from the album. I also couldn't get into hoseok's new album but that's a personal preference. I recently saw people upset that some solo projects aren't doing as well as others and again that's just preference that doesn't make the song bad and numbers aren't proof of quality.
The thing is Eunchae is still an introvert but she is such a crack head when she is with the members you wouldn’t be able to tell 😂 But yeah, don’t use her to drag other maknae down she wouldn’t want that 🥲
Always be reminded that Eunchae is also an introvert in a group of introverts. LSF is just such a home that Fimmies are so comfortable to show their bubbliness and charms like Eunchae does and that what makes her SPECIAL and loved!
I think regarding Wonyoung, yes she was definitely the favorite when Ive first debuted, and Starship was not hiding it what so ever. Like it felt like Starship didn't think Ive could make it as a collective group if they didn't have Wonyoung collect all the fans and attention from the public. So yes in the beginning we did see a huge amount of Wonyoung and friends from Starships management and promotion of both Wonyoung and Ive However Ive and now put them self as one of the biggest 4th gen girlgroups, people have shown interest in the other members, and it seems like Starship has learned from how their favoritism effect people's view on Wonyoung and Ive negatively, and they can see that there's a demand from the other girls as well. So it no longer feel so much like Wonyoung and friends anymore, sure from time to time they do slip, however there has also been a few times where they slip with one of the other members. At this point the people who continue to pound on this subject and Wonyoung, who has nothing to do with how Starship choose to promote and manage her and Ive, are obsessed with the "underdog" and "villain" narrative they put on Wonyoung and the other girls.
Starship is not a big company, so they couldn't count on company stans to support IVE and they knew the group wouldn't get the same attention big4 groups get at debut, so they had to make the most of what they had (Yujin and Wonyoung) and that's why they made sure to give them a lot of time to shine. Starship wasn't necessarily in control of how in demand Yujin and Wonyoung were as far as brand deals are concerned, so it was normal the two most famous members were also the most requested. It's not like Starship was stopping the other members from taking part in activities, it's just that they weren't in demand back them. As time went by, all of the other girls naturally got more popular and more known, resulting in more brands wanting to work with them and more shows wanting them as guests. In the end i think Starship did the right thing and i'm pretty satisfied of how things are going so far.
I hate how people compare other maknaes to eunchae like ofc every maknae is different but leave eunchae alone . She’s herself and if that’s happy and playful that’s her . As a multi Kpop fan especially a BTS, Skz, Ive, Blackpink and New Jeans, I've learnt to treat every group equally with kindness and not hate and being extremely biased. Even groups that are not popular, I don't treat like they're less important. And yes, don't treat the maknaes like babies. Opinion #3 is on point. It ain't the idols under big3 + Hybe's fault they decided to be smart and choose a big company that can instantly give them fame. They choose that, auditioned, trained and endured everything and successfully debuted. Get over it, being in any of the big3 + hybe is a huge privilege, no one and when I mean no one NO ONE would want to debut in a nugu company with shitty building and cheap ass budget. All of these idols fight to survive monthy trainings so if you stan a group from a small-medium sized company, you better spend money on them and stream all you want so you can help them get recognized. 4th gen is a competition so y'all need to shut tf up.
If someone is praised, they're overrated and not special and if someone is not, they are special and underrated? The main reason Leeseo gets hate is not because people think she's an introvert mature, quite the opposite actually, people think she's trying too hard to be cute and bubbly. Now I disagree with that because I don't think Leeseo has to even try. She's very cute but not everyone gets that. I get that she sometimes acts cute just like every other idol and I've always found it adorable and a little silly but a cute silly, however, some people don't and they hate her for it. She's compared to Eunchae because people think she's acting. Idols have certain features that make them special and stand out and Eunchae's is her smile, that's the hype. Leeseo is pretty, that's hers. People act like Eunchae is a better maknae than other maknaes and that’s stupid because there isn’t ‘a way’ to be a maknae, it just means being the youngest, it’s not a personality type. But people act like it is so they compare Eunchae with other maknaes, most notably Leeseo, and say she is better at it. Which is dumb. The creator meant it as Eunchae is not special as a maknae because that’s dumb to say since there’s nothing specific to being a maknae other than just being the youngest of the group. exactly! one example i can think of is leeseo. shes the maknae in ive but she has a younger sibling. if you follow their content, there are moments where she takes care of the other members. in award shows, she kept on holding in her tears, so she can take care of others especially their leader yujin who cried a lot. another fun fact is that yujin is the leader of ive but shes actually the maknae of her family! this makes yujin and leeseo's dynamic special because sometimes the one who takes care of the other switches between them. it's so cute.

I absolutely adore Eunchae, but I'm really tired of people using her personality to bash Leeseo. I don't follow IVE all that closely, but as far as I can tell, everything she's ever been in a "controversy" for is no big deal, normal for her age, or not even her fault. People need to let idols have their own personalities and accept that if they're literally growing up on camera, there's going to be record of them doing awkward things and that's normal. I can think of fifty things I did when I was younger that were 10x more "cringe" than anything she's ever done, but I had the benefit of not being judged online by a bunch of strangers for it.

Imagine acting like Twice needs to still prove themselves chart wise... or BTS, or EXO or ANY of those already established acts that have already done the damn thing. From nr. 1 singles to daesangs, millions of albums sold and stadium concerts, IMAGINE acting like these groups ‘fell off’ just because the general public doesn’t show the same kind of interest in them. Because chart performance, especially in SK has very much to do with the interest the general public has in an act, a fandom cannot carry alone chart success considering how the charts work there + as their fans grow older, they don’t care about streaming and buying the same way as when they were young, they start simply enjoying the group, they leave the ‘competitive’ spirit behind as they mature. However, losing the GP’s interest is VERY normal for an artist that’s been succesful for a very long time, at some point they will move into the second phase of their career where it’s mostly their established fanbase that will carry their career further. There’s NOTHING embarrassing about that, every musical act suffers that at some point, not just in kpop. So please, just stfu and show some respect to the artists that came before and stop comparing them to the newer groups just because they chart better. It’s NORMAL for that to happen, how else would new groups make themselves seen if the ones that came before don’t move to the side? There’s nothing shameful or sad about that, it’s normality.
Especially because some of these groups are no longer active, for example BigBang, or are mostly active as soloists, for example exo, snsd, shinee, so of course the general public will move onto newer and more active groups. Also, like you mentioned, the age of the fandom plays a huge role because most people that stan 2nd gen or early 3rd gen groups are probably adults with a job (maybe a family too) and it's no surprise they will not be as active as teenager stans that follow 4th gen artists.

I think the reason why people still talk about Wonyoungs "favoritism" is because of the popularity difference between her and her members. As a non dive but casual listener I still see Wonyoung as the face of the group but that isn't because of SSE pushing her more it's because she's been in the public eye longer and was able to make a name for herself before the group debuted.

I honestly always found this maknae thing cringy af, especially that we have now 09 liners that are about to début so this hype you get for being the youngest is temporary and might give you an identity crises once you will have younger people around. Remember how people were obsessed about Tzuyu and Yuna for being 15-16 but almost no one cared about them when they turned 19, because they only attracted à fanbase that loved them for being underage, which is à thing that wont last, especially that now groups début every 2 months so it wont be too long before euncha and leeseo will be among the oldest idols in the industry. I don't watch any of IVE's behind the scenes, variety guestings, lives, etc stuff so idk their offstage personalities. But I do watch their stages and the way Wonyoung pulls focus naturally is insane. Like I watch the group fancams to see the full effect of their choreographies and I find my attention being drawn to her all the time. That may be why people think she is "favored". I appreciate groups like Ive for staying true to themselves. They are fun but they don't go out of their way just to be chaotic grouped to be loved by everyone and feel relatable. People have started to forget that not all people are crackheads and that doesn't mean they aren't real. Chaotic people aren't the only real people in the world. I think RedVelvet also has the same issue. They are fun when they want. They never fed those fan service stuffs.
About the solo stanning, I totally agree people seem to think solo staning is the same as being an akgae(toxic solo stanning/hating on other members) which it definitely isn't. For instance armys keep bringing up the time Taehyung said "please love the 7 of us equally". Yeah he did say that to prevent any akgae behavior within the fandom but that doesn't mean you are obligated to pretend you love each & everyone of them equally even if you actually don't love them the same. Hell I've seen many so called "armys" using taehyung's quote but when it comes to taehyung himself they disregard it completely. It's better to bias people as you please while being respectful to other members than pretending you love them all when that's actually not the case. The problem is that i feel like solo stanning AND respecting the members at the same time doesn’t usually happen, bc why would u Stan only one of them (by Stan I mean watch content, make videos, etc ykwim) when there’s the whole group? Solo stanning seems only fun until stans start comparing the members. If a member gets more lines in a song or more screentime or have more solo activities or gets more promotion (according to solo stans) , those solo stans start hating or attacking the other members out of jealousy & blaming the company for mistreating their bias. And if one of the members go solo and don't really get the same results. as the popular member got during their solo. These solo stans start blaming people who Stan the entire group when it's not their fault. That's because solo stans of the other members didn't pay much attention to that member. Some solo stans that Stan popular members go as far as to make their bias leave the group in the hopes that theirr bias will be even more successful.Solo stanning does not really work for groups ,it just brings just hate to the other members.Even If you say I respect other members, a time would come when you"d snap. Having a bias is ok but going full on solo doesn't really work for groups who are practically together 24/7 and group music.

2. Big 4 companies do have privilege , stans of big 4 groups especially company stans gotta stop trying to prove their faves do not have an advantage due to their company. More likely to have company stans, bigger budget, more opportunities, etc.
That's not even a bad thing tbh, but when some company stans try to drag groups from smaller labels by inventing shit like Kakao privilege (note: doesn't exist, Kakao M has subsidiaries but labels are autonomous for better or worse).
Like there isn't collaboration and interactions for example between Starship and High Up, IST, etc. just cause they are under Kakao the way there is between HYBE and their labels.
3. Kep1er's success was hampered definitely by the music not being received well (I do like some of their songs though). Though much worrying trend for them is the album sales being far less than debut which may be due to the conflicts in the fandom alienating solo stans and discouraging possible fans. Wadada actually charted as well so there was attention early on, and highest album sales was with their debut album.
4. Maknaes are different, no such thing as a maknae personality. Think though its because some people hate Leeseo because of whatever stupid delusion they have on their minds. One of the worst things was getting into Kpop twitter last year and finding out all the shit people have been throwing at IVE (IVE fan and IZ*ONE btw).
Tell me about ittt I started lurking on twitter a few months ago and while I knew IVE was getting a lot of hate since the award seasons, I had NO IDEA how much and how horrible some people are to them over there. The dive community on twitter is very small nowadays, I saw some dives saying how a lot of them left when the hate train was in full swing because it was so toxic to be on there during those times.
They claim favoritism, but they only focus on Wonyoung "Wonyoung did this, Wonyoung has those lines, Wonyoung blah blah". If you're so mad about it, go talk about the other members! About the big company "privilege" thing, it's always funny how some people think that groups from small companies automatically deserve more because they don't have big company privilege. It's ridiculous because they seem to think that the members of groups in big companies were born in the big company, like a rich kid is born into a rich family. In reality, most of the artists who debut in the big companies got into the big company through hard work and winning in very highly competitive audition processes. Where do the people who couldn't compete successfully to get into big companies go? They go to small companies, generally speaking. So basically thinking that a small company group deserves more because they don't have "big company privilege" is like saying that an Olympic athlete with a bronze medal deserve more because she doesn't have "gold medal privilege". It's like saying that an athlete on a major league sports team has "big team privilege" and an athlete on a minor league sports team deserves more because they don't have "big team privilege". You can't reasonably talk about privilege, without first talking about how much work and talent it took for an athlete to get accepted by a major league team in the first place. And you can't reasonably talk about "big company privilege" of a Kpop group or idol, without first considering how much talent, hard work and competition they had to go through to get accepted into the big company in the first place.
Now see... I kinda have to disagree. Getting in the big4 is NOT just because those idols are the best in the industry as you make it seem. Some of the idols in the big companies also have mediocre or bellow skills while a lot of idols in smaller companies have excellent skills too. It’s not just about talent and work ethic to get in the big4, there are other factors too. A lot of these idols also get scouted by agencies therefore they sign with them right away, they don’t audition to all of them. And even the ones that did audition and didn’t pass at a big4 agency can still sign with a smaller one and improve tremendously to the point that they can out-perform some big4 idols in the end. It’s more nuanced then how you make it seem.
honestly, the only one i disagree a bit on is the last one. maybe the charts don't take away the relevance of groups that have already established a name for themselves (bts, blackpink, twice, etc.) but it also shows how well they hold up domestically and internationally; after all the charts represent what people are liking at the moment (not counting mass buying and playlists left overnight to increase streaming). look at beyoncé who released a song ("break my soul") 25 years into her career and still made it to the top of the billboard hot 100. i agree that maybe for big acts "they're not that important" but charts show if they're still welcome by the general public (as well as being an "achievement") and that's something.

Actually SK's public is way too impatient in terms of music. They just move on from a particular group way too fast and they prefer to listen to rookies nowadays just because they have released songs recently. All the relevant groups like BTS, Blackpink, Twice, Exo, Big Bang are still the names that come into people's minds outside Korea when they think about 'Kpop'. And not to mention that these groups happen to top iTunes charts and barge into Spotify playlists very fastly. I think that's enough to show their relevancy.
Kind of agree too. People like to dismiss these charts becuase they don't like the idea of their favs not being as sucessu6in their home country of Korea. Charts also see if they are getting new fans. Like my ults Monsta X. Even tho they are a established 7 year group, they don't chart well from the beginning but every single year they have grown and got better and better at charts. In Korea all these music shows and MVs are shown on their local tv channels so Kpop fans in Korea will be exposed to more than one group. Outside of Korea we can only see them on the internet and bc it's the internet we will mostly watch the group that we know. So when new groups debut they get attention. Rn Kpop is in the 4th gen and groups in this generation are more active than previous gen groups. So they will be more seen on public tv than older groups.

what i think what happened with the maknae especially with eunchae was that since garam left, and there was this random burst of needing to give her sometime to be special because everyone else was special in some way as in chae and kkura are both ex-izone; yunjin was in produce, is american/speak eng, and main vocalist; then kazuha was a professional ballerina. So Eunchae was the only one not "special" (aside from garam but her scandal gave her the spotlight) The train of best maknae never really exist until eunchae bc people needed something to brag about her.

its crazy to me that a lot of wonyoungs biggest haters are ive stans. the calls come from inside the house. without her love dive would not have been the title track of their comeback , we wouldnt have gotten an amazing song like mine , etc… the girl has an amazing ear for music due to being in the industry so long , and having a musical background since childhood before she was a trainee. she has the BEST stage presence in fourth gen (i mean shes a former izone member) , and is literally the sweetest. kpop stans are weird , they treat her the same way they treated jennie.
Personally speaking, i've never seen a real dive hating on Wonyoung, it was always some token stans that pretended to be dives but never really cared about any of the girls. With that being said, i absolutely agree with you, she contributes so much to the group in terms of song writing, stage presence and personality. I could never imagine IVE without her. Kpop stans really have to open their eyes and realize that she is not the untalented girl they're making her out to be.

i agree with the maknae point, but i will say this : as the youngest member of a group, you are, most of the time assigned a cute and innocent personality, and you get babied a lot more by fans and sometimes even staff and company, often because being young is associated with those things, which i think is also the reason as to why idols born in the same year are treated differently based on their group age difference ( ex: jungkook vs bang chan ) .
my point being that as an idol you dont always get to act the way you want to ( ownyoung for example changed her behaviour in izone vs ive, and i think her position in both groups probaly had a big role in that. sorry for the lenghthy comment btw.
Wonyoung didn't necessarily change from Izone to Ive, she just grew up. Mind you she debuted at 14 and now she's 19...it would actually be pretty weird if a 19 year old person acted the same way they did at 14. She didn't change, she just matured like everyone does and this has little to do with the fact she's no longer the youngest.

I actually think that eunchae might fall off love too someday. You can't just being the loved one all the time. There is a reason everybody is at a different level in life and it’s all impart to their own actions.
All these levels are important for a balanced society and for once’s own mindset and growth.
If anything was truly to be “normalized” it would have to be: logic, common sense, rationality, understanding, discussion, diversity, community, others morals, traditions and religions, differences etc.
Putting “normalize” at the beginning of a sentence does absolutely nothing. It tends to actually make things far worse.
What you claim to want to “normalize” is so easily possible to be turned to something you’d like not to be “normalized” but because it is now you’ve to counter it with another one of your “normalization’s” to ensure we “fix” the problem.
It’s a cycle that won’t end
To truly balance out issues like the ones mentioned, you put forth common sense, logic, rationality, understanding etc because these are the base, the foundations that ask the questions as to why things exist, why they’re here, will it be necessary for a productive world, who’s benefiting etc.
“Normalizing” does none of that. All it asks is that you view something in a different light, the light of someone else.

What does that mean? And how does it help?
There is an issue and you want to counter it was something to make it balanced.
So you throw “normalize” in there not realizing that the new “normal” has drastic effects on society.
This is why people ask for explanations and fully thought out thoughts, not jumbled words for an easy solution.
People disdain b*llying because it was mean because 97% of the time it was people being Frank, blunt and up front about all the issues these crybabies wanted to ignore, and it harmed the crybabies because they internalized emotion rather than put together why they think that way.
It’d force the weak to do some internalized growth and it actually did for a vast majority of people.
This is not excusing the behaviour, but this is to say that people should be more blunt when utilizing rationality, logic, common sense etc with others to actually promote some thought rather than a constant set of combativeness.
If more kpop fans began to ask questions, demand the full chain of thought, have someone break things down (because if they know it all this step should be quite simple) and all n all bring discussion that makes others forfeit their right to being a child we may get somewhere.
People don’t want to let go of their immaturity and naivety because it gives them a shield and an excuse.
But until then, telling others to “normalize”anything does absolutely nothing because in the moment we’ll jump on and applaud.
But it’s a momentary fix. Things change and the issue you had with once is either worse or countered with the same issue of a different colour.

I swear all of these points are so true. Like I see people calling older 3rd gen groups and 2nd gen groups like EXO flops just because they're inactive or haven't been in the charts recently? As if EXO isn't the second biggest bg in the third gen and possibly the second biggest bg ever. Just because they're not in the GP's spotlight rn doesn't mean they're flopping off the face of the earth, their impact is still there. And the whole privilege thing is so true. "maknaest maknae""maknae of the year" just all started as inside joke within the fandom but other stans used this as a personality and compare her to other maknaes. i agree w the maknae thing but imo eunchae's special and a breath of fresh air in kpop esp in this gen. she managed to charm everyone just bc of her sunshine and adorable personality, and she's very capable, hardworking and talented too. anw as her stan, i'm just enjoying this phase of everyone liking/adoring eunchae, letting her enjoy her teenage life as an idol. other maknaes don't get the same treatment as her sadly

well i understand the maknae thing cuz ppl be comparing other maknaes to eunchae and inviting hate on her but wtf is wrong w the thumbnail. eunchae is VERY special. imagine debuting so young in a successful group, being recognized as one of iconic & most loved idols of 4th gen rn, being mubank mc and having her own show in less than a year after debut. she got the star factor that's why lot of kpop fans not just fearnots like her
every person is special in there own way but eunchae is not better than any other maknae. maknae literally just means youngest of the group. she is the best at being the youngest of her group? like it just doesn’t make sense. there are idols younger than eunchae that if they were to act the same way eunchae does they’d be dragged for it. they were mainly talking about the double standard.
Don't get me wrong, i really like Eunchae but what i'm trying to say is that she isn't more special than other maknaes like some of her stans are trying to make it seem. These people need to stop treating her as if she was the standard, as if she was somehow special in comparison to other idols.

1. If you’re an Army and you don’t support their solo activities equally you’re not an Army PERIOD. Of course you like some songs and concepts more and some less but what we’re mad about is favoritism. You’re a fan of the whole group and you should support all the members. Thank you with the first opinion people like what they like and i hate seeing people get jumped for saying it and being told to keep it to themselves i see no problem with saying you don't like a song as long as you aren't being rude. Like I personally couldn't get into set me free pt2 because the amount of autotune but enjoyed the rest of the songs from the album. I also couldn't get into hoseok's new album but that's a personal preference. I recently saw people upset that some solo projects aren't doing as well as others and again that's just preference that doesn't make the song bad and numbers aren't proof of quality.
The thing is Eunchae is still an introvert but she is such a crack head when she is with the members you wouldn’t be able to tell 😂 But yeah, don’t use her to drag other maknae down she wouldn’t want that 🥲

I think regarding Wonyoung, yes she was definitely the favorite when Ive first debuted, and Starship was not hiding it what so ever.
Like it felt like Starship didn't think Ive could make it as a collective group if they didn't have Wonyoung collect all the fans and attention from the public.
So yes in the beginning we did see a huge amount of Wonyoung and friends from Starships management and promotion of both Wonyoung and Ive
However Ive and now put them self as one of the biggest 4th gen girlgroups, people have shown interest in the other members, and it seems like Starship has learned from how their favoritism effect people's view on Wonyoung and Ive negatively, and they can see that there's a demand from the other girls as well.
So it no longer feel so much like Wonyoung and friends anymore, sure from time to time they do slip, however there has also been a few times where they slip with one of the other members.
At this point the people who continue to pound on this subject and Wonyoung, who has nothing to do with how Starship choose to promote and manage her and Ive, are obsessed with the "underdog" and "villain" narrative they put on Wonyoung and the other girls.
Starship is not a big company, so they couldn't count on company stans to support IVE and they knew the group wouldn't get the same attention big4 groups get at debut, so they had to make the most of what they had (Yujin and Wonyoung) and that's why they made sure to give them a lot of time to shine.
Starship wasn't necessarily in control of how in demand Yujin and Wonyoung were as far as brand deals are concerned, so it was normal the two most famous members were also the most requested. It's not like Starship was stopping the other members from taking part in activities, it's just that they weren't in demand back them.
As time went by, all of the other girls naturally got more popular and more known, resulting in more brands wanting to work with them and more shows wanting them as guests.
In the end i think Starship did the right thing and i'm pretty satisfied of how things are going so far.

As a multi Kpop fan especially a BTS, Skz, Ive, Blackpink and New Jeans, I've learnt to treat every group equally with kindness and not hate and being extremely biased. Even groups that are not popular, I don't treat like they're less important. And yes, don't treat the maknaes like babies. Opinion #3 is on point. It ain't the idols under big3 + Hybe's fault they decided to be smart and choose a big company that can instantly give them fame. They choose that, auditioned, trained and endured everything and successfully debuted. Get over it, being in any of the big3 + hybe is a huge privilege, no one and when I mean no one NO ONE would want to debut in a nugu company with shitty building and cheap ass budget. The main reason Leeseo gets hate is not because people think she's an introvert mature, quite the opposite actually, people think she's trying too hard to be cute and bubbly. Now I disagree with that because I don't think Leeseo has to even try. She's very cute but not everyone gets that. I get that she sometimes acts cute just like every other idol and I've always found it adorable and a little silly but a cute silly, however, some people don't and they hate her for it.

Like I'm not the only one who notices this, right? I believe with time, she'll be more comfy. You could obviously tell she doesn't know how to act in certain situations because we debuted a minor.
