      If and when funding and time permits I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the August VGB500 HDMI capture card - its touted as being a more inexpensive alternative to Elgato's HD60S along with being equally as capable in terms of its abilities.

      It would be great to add 25/50 fps (PAL) compatibility to the list, because most capture cards I tested don't allow anything lower than 30 fps, or have 24 fps but no 25 fps mode. That's a problem for non-gamers who want to just use these cards with their cameras. I have Extremecap UVC which has 25p mode after firmware upgrade. YK752, EC288 and ezcap284 don't support it. I wonder if any of the cheaper, "non-broadcast" style cards support PAL modes. Of course they all display 25p video, but with occasional stuttering due to framerate mismatch.

      Do you have additional info regarding the Live Gamer 4K?
      You said RGB is supported, but didn't list any resolution or FPS. Or is it possible to capture RGB content at *any* supported resolution without restrictions in FPS? That would be quite remarkable.
      Secondly, what about custom resolutions? Can you feed "odd" ones (i.e. 1800p, 1024x768, 800x600) into the Live Gamer 4K and capture it successfully?
      At last, AVerMedia itself says on reddit, that there's no (official?) support for HDR using AMD graphics cards. Can you confirm or deny that?
      I'd *really* appreciate your answer, 'cause you seem to be the only one actually covering these topics in detail.

    You might look into the Time Sleuth for lag testing, it's much cheaper and more configurable. I'd also really like to see audio tested. For example, the HD60 Pro, if fed a surround sound signal, doesn't downmix, it just takes the left and right channels, resulting in a lot of missing audio. The Live Gamer 4K, on the other hand, allegedly (according to Avermedia) downmixes the surround sound so that viewers aren't missing out on anything. Audio isn't particularly well documented on their spec lists, so I'd love to see more information about that. As others have mentioned, OSSC compatibility would be nice as well, though that can be found elsewhere.

I'm using a BMD Decklink Duo and taking in SDI feeds, but wanted to test the latency for it...will that same tool to measure on the monitor work (I have a monitor that uses SDI inputs I could test against)? 2. Hey, first off thanks for the OBS resource, I was actually looking into doing something similar myself (just with internet resources and not hands on). So... I know I'm sorta late to the party, but would you consider adding a column for whether a given card has tone-mapping capabilities? Especially in your current videos you mention this quite a lot, also with using the LUTs instead etc. So you seem to have some data on it already, mind adding it to the OBS resource? :)

    Awesome work man, I’m looking at capture cards for a new camera setup because I discovered that my stream has been having issues because my c922 webcam at 1080p and 720p causes my encoder to drop frames (new NVENC on my 2080ti), I tried dropping the resolution of the camera even further to 480p and discovered that suddenly there was a new video decode mode unlocked in OBS (YUY2 instead of just MJPEG) after some research leading your written article and this video I now know that MJPEG is garbage and I want at least YUY2 but I’m now stuck at 480p 30fps on the camera.
    So a question then, I noticed it in this video the gen 1 cam link has a lower latency than gen 2. I’m only interested in 1080p support so I’m curious if you tested the latency at the same resolution, frame rate and video decode modes (since gen 2 has access to I420, NV12, YUY2 where gen 1 is YUY2) and do you recommend the gen 1 if you want to stick to 1080p or do you think I should go for gen 2? Cheers and keep up the great work!

    Datapath cards are also great. I have a Datapath VisionRGB E1s it captures at 8:8:8 and it supports any resolution I've thrown at it. PAL PS1, PAL Saturn (both using sync strike) and any weird res and refresh rate a 90's PC could throw at it. For example 720x400 at 70hz? No problem!
    It has a DVI-I connector with support for DVI, HDMI, VGA, Component and SCART (using a sync stripper). Depending on the device capture video clarity is sometimes indistinguishable from emulators.
    The only negative thing I can say about it, is that it maxes out a 1920 x 1200 60hz (digital), but you could probably mess around with it's API to squeeze in some more pixels. It also doesn't capture audio.
    Overall great card you can get on Ebay for around $50 - $100 especially if you are into capturing retro stuff.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  5 лет назад

      Indeed, I need to pick that one up. I have tested newer Datapath cards, but they were loaners and I no longer have them, so I can't go back and do latency testing, etc. :/
      Does it support true 240p?

    • @Tore299
      @Tore299 5 лет назад

      @@EposVox Not sure about what you mean with true 240p do you mean something like a SNES or Mega Drive? I'm sure it will capture any RGB signal be it analogue, digital, ~15 kHz or ~31 kHz.
      When I capture stuff with it I use a tool called VCS ( github.com/leikareipa/vcs ). It allows me to dial in clock (horizontal size), phase, colour intensity, contrast etc and more importantly create profiles for different devices so I don't have to dial in settings for every single analogue device and mode.

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  5 лет назад

      Yeah that's what I mean - most capture cards, even if they're compatible with funky PC resolutions and etc. - interpret 240p signals (NES through PS1 era) as 480i, which is undesirable.

    Thank you for putting this video together. It's been difficult to find detailed information in the past.
    Do you have any recommendations for recording lossless video for teardrop? Currently I'm using AmaRecTV with the lagarith codec. I'm not sure if there is any difference in recording to RGB or Yuy2 for teardrop though. Would RGB raise my chances to get a more accurate reading or would it not matter since both are lossless in the end?
    Also I was told that you have to record lossless to a SSD and not to record to my 7200RPM 6TB standard HDD. Is this true? Everything I've read says that write speeds aren't a major leap with SSD, instead the gap in performance is mostly with the read speeds. Is that true? I'm just hoping to record lossless gameplay the most efficient way possible.
    Thanks and keep up the great work!

    • @EposVox
      @EposVox  5 лет назад +1

      Write speeds are also a massive jump over HDDs, whoever said that had no clue lol.
      For lossless you can either do a CRF/CQP of 0 or use the utvideo codec option in OBS.
      For Amarec, utvideo or lagarith are both good choices. Color space doesn't really matter - it's just a matter of having a clean enough scene frame to frame to make sure it doesn't detect compression artifacts as new frame data.
