Hey Karl. Thanks for doing these videos. I mean not only are they informative, but I think they can really help get people excited about travelling. I watched your HK2NY series around April I think and it really struck me. Before watching it I never knew I even wanted to travel. I've never left the UK before, but last week I finally took the step and booked a holiday. Not a backpacking trip or anything like that but a short break in Bordeaux in 3 weeks. Thank you for showing me that travelling isn't scary.
It's crazy that the last time I watched your videos, I was in school aching to go backpacking. Now I'm 2.5 months into my trip (currently in Italy, just finished hitchhiking yachts in greece) and it has been incredibly. I have absolutely no plan.. I just go to a country and see what happens :)
Karl! Possible one of the best travel advice videos I've seen, very informative and useful information. Very well edited too, sometimes you switch off when someone's sitting and talking to the camera, but not this time. Thanks a lot and I can't wait for your next advice video.
Got to say best blog I've ever watched on travelling so much great info, I'm off travelling again in Feb to South America at the ripe old age of 44 some 12 years since my last round the world trip, I can't wait
What do you pack, and how do you pack it when you decide to travel? Are clothes any priority when you pack for the travels, or do you purchase clothes on the way? Would like to see you make a video about this! Other than that, love your videos! Keep up the good work :)
Love the tip about stealing tour routes... Simple but genius! :) As everyone else says, thanks so much for spending the time to do all these videos. Absolute hero.
Extra tip about booking flights: lots of companies (eg STA) will price match each other, so if you're booking an expensive flight and want to avoid a cheap/ dodgy agent then just get their quote and get STA to price match it ;)
Awesome video Karl! Every time you make a Q&A/How to... video I have 3-4 webpages to add to my bookmark list. I love this kind of videos, really useful tips and interesting content. Can't wait to see what's in that India film. Keep it up!
ahhhhh thank you so much for this, your Q&A's have been SO SO SO useful so far! please keep doing them Quick question - where do you get your music for all your videos from? I love how you use music with elements of the country/region that you're visiting, it adds a very "3D" touch to your videos and really makes them authentic
Also consider the fruit/food seasons; there are limited times where unforgettable selections of fruits/food are in season. For example: May and June for Mango, where you get huge selections of different varieties of mangoes that can never be had at other times....especially since most of the lesser known varieties are in backward places with little preservation technology....and no matter how good the technology might be, it can never duplicate the taste of freshly picked ones.
Thanks men!! Your video help me a lot! Is my first trip alone and I´m going to Southeast Asia... I´m going to check all the webs you recomend! This video is GREAT!
Thanks a lot for such an awsm web-series. Looking ahead to share my travel experiences just like that. Your Grand Circle trip was very useful during my travel in US. really inspired by your 9 month Road trip - looking ahead for having one such trip with my gf. Eagerly awaiting to see your roadtrip doc. to India. Keep it going dude. Keep sharing the good itineraries.
Hay Karl thanks for all the great information and really looking forward to more videos!! Question for packing: how do you pack clothing for different climates, what essential clothing would you recommend? And when traveling how do you keep your things safe, do you have special backpacks that you use? And what pack do you use for your trips now? Thanks again!! :)
Your videos are great man keep it up! Very informative and easy to watch! I got a question though, when you go to countries where English is the second language, how do you deal with the language barrier?
Awesome thanks for the reply! Ya makes sense, I guess they probably have a few apps for that now too eh, great though I'm doing a year in australia for my first solo travel, planning on doing some more "foreign" countries once I'm a little more experienced!
+Karl Watson: Travel Documentaries Cool, I'd like to fly down and do a bit of South America at some point, but the big ones on my list are Austria, France, Switzerland and Japan (Mostly for snowboarding). But that won't be for a while yet so I'll have a bit of time to start learning some new languages!
no problem,i have a question for your next video please, backpack size now i know everybody says back light etc and thats fine i understand that but backpack sizes usually come in 45l 55l 65l but what i wonder is in hostels in general are the lockers big enough to accommodate the biggest sizes ? i mean are the lockers like the old stool ones at the swimming pool or are they like big train station size lockers? anyway thanks for all your help!
Hey mate, how do pack for different climates when back packing? Got some mates and I starting in Japan next year when its going to be cold and then making are way down through south east Asia where its going to be hot ! Keep up the good work mate !
Whoop!!! Excited that you are editing India!! Question for next week - when you did HK2NY how did you pack for going from cold to hot places? We are going from SE Asia to nz to Columbia to south chile! Have no idea what to pack 😂
Karl, what would you do about day activities, where do you find whats going on? Is there a website? I watched all your series and loved them all. Great inspiration for other travellers!
Love your stuff! Just finished india 1, can;t wait for the next episode! Packing question: What items do / did you used to pack that you never ended up using?
super helpful, I'm currently at the stage of knowing what countries I want to go to(mongolia through South East Asia to NZ), and ruffley how much it'll cost me. Now I just need to keep saving. only 2.5k to go...
Such a good video! It would have taken me years until I would have found out about all those helpfull websides! How do you make sure your stuff is save while traveling (pickpockets/getting lost/things break)???
Great videos as usual... Can you advise anything on how to film a trip?? Do you just film everything and then edit it all afterwards, or only get the camera out now and again...? Cheers
Great informative video! And finally we are seeing some progress on India :) For packing and stuff video, what are some essentials you always take and recommend others to take on a trip?
Hey Karl..loving all the videos. I'm just wondering if I'm going away for three months would it be mad to drag a suitcase everywhere with me or would I be better off with a backpack?
What would you recommend if I wanted to travel in Europe from winter into spring? Like are there places that are better to go in winter and better to go during spring?
Hey Karl, I absolutely love your videos, I have been hooked on them for the last few weeks! I have a question for you about what you do with your current house/flat when you're away overseas for an extended period, in terms of paying the rent? In my longer trips to Europe and such I have sublet my room or put it up on Airbnb. I was wondering what you did for your 6 week and 2 week trips, as this can put a big dint in the budget when you have to keep paying rent and accom on the trip! Thanks!! From Vanessa in Melbourne, Australia :)
Im unsubscribing a lot of travel channels because your channel is enough! your videos are so convenients and fitting in well my with my needs and questions! #thankyou
Do you have an international medical insurance or do you pay as it happens? If so how much money should we budget for those events? In Thailand I had a fall that broke a few bones and I landed in their hospital for 2 weeks. My medical insurance (Blue Shields & Blue Cross) didn't cover me there. Well they reimbursed me some of it but what do you do for medical coverage?
do you lose anything from the trip if you're trying to film your adventure as it happens? i want to make a similar travel documentary series, but don't want to be preoccupied with feeling like i need to film everything on the trip. this relates to packing for stuff because right now i am deciding which camera to bring. what do you recommend? DSLR and another smaller camera? just the smaller camera? If it helps, i do have experience making documentaries and filming.
Hey Karl, awesome helpful video as always! One question.. when you went to NZ first time round,. did you work there for a few months? If so, what was the process like of finding a job? Cheers ! :)
when your booking your flights do you book all your flights before you start travelling or do you do it on the way incase you feel like you want to stay somewhere longer
Heres a tip: So lets say you're going to Ireland, and you want to get a car and drive around the whole island. Instead of going with the tours that they show online, find out the route and go to opposite direction, so then you do not get stuck in the middle of a bunch of busses in your car.
Hey Karl i love your channel!! Im 18 years old, and from Denmark. Im graduating what is the same as highschool/college in 2 years. I now that i need around 10 k dollars, and ive always thought that i would just work in a supermarket or restuaurant or something after graduating, but is there a job, like freelancer job, that is earns more ? Like what kind of jobs do you recommend for young men, that wants to earn money. Im not very skilled in computer or it
I have a question. What is it like coming home after travelling for 9 months? Did you experience any depression? Did you find it hard to get back into the "normal" swing of things? Was it hard to integrate back into society? What was it like coming home?
