    Here's what's up with the jumping with the colour tab: your mouse is leaving the software. I know your mouse is hidden when you're dragging those sliders, but, while invisible, when it reaches the edge of the software's surface and, say, touches the taskbar, you get that jump to the extreme.
    This is a bug. I usually just hover over that slider and use my mouse scroll wheel to adjust it rather than clicking and dragging, only dragging for very fine adjustment.
    Blender was like this until it got the ability to cycle the mouse across your screen ad infinitam. I hope BM does something similar.

    I chalk this up to more sophisticated programs allowing you to do more but at the same time being more difficult to learn as a result. I had the same frustration switching from a basic program like Paint to Photoshop. I wanted to do something stupidily simple but found I needed to spend a few hours, sometimes days, learning about layers and how to add specific graphics to specific backgrounds. After you get it, it's second nature but initially you need to invest a lot of time to get the work flow down.

  • @CarlosPerezFilms
    @CarlosPerezFilms 3 года назад +8

    I had some of the same issues when i switched from Premiere. I stopped trying to use Davinci as premiere and adapted, life is better now.
    The one thing I will say is. Dont use adjustment laters for colouring. There are far better tools in the color tag to achieve the same grouping like, the group option using the timeline node tree. adjustment layers are just weird here.
    A lot of your issues like the random stuff happening I have never even seen, i use mac but unaware if its related to that.
    Easing in and out. There is an option when you see the spline-dot thing, you can click the spine option and it will ease in and out. It is annoying about the reset option, it also irks me.

    7:45 Kasey for trim to the right, the shortcut key is shift+] to trim to the left key is shift+[ Just go to Keyboard Customization and click all commands and then search: trim, and there you can switch to Q and W or whatever key you like.
    A lot of troll people out there...It is frustrating because should be a smooth experience, and I hope someone from Davinci will see this video and improve those non-sense extra clicks. Take care!

    To ease in movements expand the key frame box on a video object. It's the diamond shaped icon on the bottom right of each one. Spot your keyframe, click on it, right click it, select Ease In. I admit it still doesn't ease in as well as I would hope but it does ease in somewhat.

  • @rodrigomacias
    @rodrigomacias 3 года назад +9

    I wish their snapping tool took less frames to move around, just like in Premier Pro. I also miss the "sync in timeline" function.
    BTW, for the crossfade problem at 7:00 try to use trim mode to correct your left clip, instead of blading it.
    In some cases it is better to edit the Davinci way instead of replicate a Premiere Pro behavior.

    Recently had a "blocky artifacts" issue myself... it happened whenever I used a certain blend mode on a layer above another layer. I can't remember which blend mode (add or screen?), but I just changed it to a different blend mode and it was fixed. Not ideal at all. It feels like it could be a bug. I didn't see any evidence of artifacts in the preview window. They appeared only after it was rendered. This may not be your issue at all but this helped me in case anyone else has something similar happen.

    I know this is an old video, but maybe could still help someone scrolling through the comments?
    1. Save yourself *even more* clicks by using the Media page to import your footage. Not only do you not have to worry about the random clip order, but you also never have to leave the application. You can bind the Media page to a shortcut (shift+2 by default, I believe) so you don't even have to take your hands off. Combined with the fact that you can have favorited (pinned) folders and power bins, and you'll be saving yourself a lot of time.
    1.5 Edit with 2 monitors and you don't really need to worry about the right panels not being open.
    2. Enable "Live Media Preview" in the source viewer to see it on the big screen. Use "I" and "O" to set in and out points.
    3. See #1
    4. I haven't run into this problem with stereo audio files, but I wonder if it's because you're dragging from the explorer window? See #1
    5. If you want fine control (but you don't want to jump into the Fairlight page), use the Clip Volume slider in the inspector, instead of dragging the volume in the timeline. If you click and drag on the number value, you get finer control than if you click on the slider itself. And you *can* hold alt to enable even finer control, just like you wanted. You can also just click on the number and use the arrow keys to make precise adjustments (left/right to select the place, and up/down to increase or decrease the value).
    6. That just sucks. I'm not sure why it's like that, but it sucks. Try caching that first clip, that works for me a lot of the time.
    6.5 I don't get those random timeline jumps, but this video is several months old, so maybe it got patched out? Then again, I wasn't getting that bug last October either, so idk. Anyone still getting this bug today?
    7. This bug is frustrating as HELL! But you can get around it by hovering your mouse over the slider, and then just using your scroll wheel to increase/decrease the brightness. I hope they fix this soon, though.
    8. Also extremely frustrating. BlackMagic, plz fix!!!
    9. You're looking for "End to Playhead," Ctrl+Shift+] by default. Rebind that to something easier, it's crazy useful. I use "W."
    10. I agree that it doesn't get as smooth as an After Effects easy ease, which is a little frustrating sometimes, but after you enable the ease, you can grab the handle that appears in the viewer to fine-tune the ease curve. You can also click on the icon to the left of the keyframe icon on the clip to open the curve editor, which can sometimes be really helpful, sometimes not. They really need to make that curve editor work a lot better.
    11. Idk man
    11.5 Annoying AF
    12. Annoyinger TF
    13. I never realized that, but definitely annoying.
    14 Double-click on the value instead of clicking the keyframe reset button. Double-clicking resets the value in most parts of DaVinci.
    15. Another one I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out (don't usually have much need for the adjustment clips because I use clip groups for a lot of that stuff), but that is definitely frustrating! Yeah, you could stack the adjustment clips and drag the fade in/fade out handles to accomplish the same effect, but the perfectionist in me would be triggered by having to create an extra video track just for that. I would probably just keyframe the values instead of trying to crossfade two clips (Actually pretty easy to do if with the "output key" parameter in the color page).
    16. The "Dialogue Processor" effect may have what you're looking for. Perhaps either de-rumble or de-pop.
    17. I don't understand the issue on this one.
    18. I don't get these, but it could be your render settings maybe?

  • @thenomadicrabbit2890
    @thenomadicrabbit2890 3 года назад

    good to know that we are sharing the same issues :D

  • @Josh_Sattin
    @Josh_Sattin 3 года назад

    For finer audio adjustments, click on the "Timeline View Options" button that is under the transform/crop/etc. button. Then click on the first "Audio View Options" button. This will show you the audio in one graph instead of two and allows for more precise control. I like the audio as one larger graph instead of the stereo view.

    To get specific parts of a larger clip from your media pool, double click the clip. This will bring it up in the main viewer. Then as you scroll through, select “I” to set your in point where you’d like it to start. Scroll and select “O” to set your out point where you’d like the clip to end. Then click on the main video viewer and drag it down into your timeline. This will bring down only the part you choose of the larger overall clip.

  • @FFVison
    @FFVison 3 года назад

    I have experienced the random clip order issue in other applications. I think it may be an issue with Windows Explorer more than Resolve. I have found that things get imported into the intended order if you select your files and then click the first in the sequence to where it needs to go.
    As far as the audio only being mono, you are dragging a stereo clip onto a mono track. If you dragged it onto a stereo track or a blank track, I believe it does select the appropriate number of channels.
    For the keyframe animations, on the bottom right hand side of the video clip there is an icon where you can click to bring up a spline editor below the video clip where you can modify ease in/ease out effects.

  • @mdhazeldine
    @mdhazeldine 3 года назад +1

    I haven't noticed most of the issues you highlighted but definitely YES to the accidentally colour grading the adjustment layer! For the deleting a chunk at 7:14 do you mean the Ripple end to play head? My Q key doesn't do what yours does but my ctrl+shift+[ does by default. Ctrl+shift+] does what you're asking for. You can reprogram that to a custom key. I know some people use Q and W for both of those.
    The commands are in Trim -> Ripple

    I think that when you click 'ease in' on the keyframe editor a spline editor pops up in the power window and you have to do it manually.
    I think you can also press 'S' by default when selecting a keyframe and it will smooth it automatically.
    Also, when you delete that part where you have a transition you need to make sure that you select ONLY the track that you want to manipulate, you select it by clicking that little window beneath the track name (if I understood your problem).
    And you can actually reset a keyframe to its default value, you just have to click that little dot under the slider (although some options don't have that dot under them so that's annoying)

    I didn't get through the full list of 22 things, mostly because the first 10 or so are predominantly due to the way you work. Change that, and the issues go away.
    1. ALWAYS import your media from the Media Storage panel on the Media page. Use Power Bins for frequently used assets.
    2. Disable and ignore Live Media Preview. Use the Source Viewer instead.
    3a. Follow the page progression at the bottom. Do ALL the editing first. Do ALL the coloring after that. Do ALL the audio work after that.
    3b. Opening on the same page you left off on is the correct behavior.
    4. Don't add the clip to the timeline and cut parts out. Load into the Source Viewer and add parts in.
    My thinking, anyway.

    I'm guessing to fade in the LUT what you need to do is either put a transition between those two clips, or duplicate the clip, LUT it up, and put it underneath or above the original then use a keyframe for transparency.

    1:52 maybe to force the user to use the Media tab
    5:37 it is jumping to the last played position (it thinks you searched where you want to cut, and then you want to play back from where you was) i don't know why :D Also sometimes it is acting like it not registered that you put it somewhere else, so it continues where you stopped it or something like that.
    6:03 it is jumping when you reach the edge of the screen, it has a great feature i can't remember in what setting, you can see as you move your mouse cursor jumps to the opposite edge of the screen, and it is useful there, but i think it also does that here, but your cursor is invisible, and before it becomes visible it jumps back to the slider (sometimes you can see from where) but probably this is why it is not fixed yet.
    6:27 it is not ment to use it by jumping back to pages, you have to select the clip from the clips (just saying why it is like that)
    7:42 The name is Trim to end, the default is: shift + [ for delete left, shift + ] for delete rigth
    8:17 When you click ease in there is 4 white dots and a white line, you can adjust how mutch you want to ease it in with the closest dot to the anchor point. the top is rotating, and under it is curving the path.
    10:04 Lens correction, if you select all the clips you can set up all of them together at the same time
    11:23 in resolve is double click on the setting name to set it to default, in every tab as in (Adobe Photoshop, i never used premier, but i heard it was an option at one point)
    12:05 you also can keyframe colour grades, so you can add 2 dynamic keyframe to the lut node where to start and where to finish smoothing in, and at the keyer (last panel on the toolbar) youcan set the key output opacity to 0 on the first key
    13:14 you can change the view at the top rigth you you can see when did you create it and when did you last modified it
    13:30 i think it is render cache artifact, try to delete render cache just for that clip and see if it is still there, i'm not sure how i don't use it.

    Gripes from the Mac Planet:
    - Constantly overrides the entire desktop making drag and drop difficult to impossible
    - Overrides the Finder’s pull-down menus. Big no no.
    - File imports - some operations use the Mac OS, sometimes it overrides it with it’s STUPID, slow, unintuitive tree system. I’m on a Mac. Use the Mac. You don’t get to ignore it and expect Mac people to just “deal”.
    - Panels won’t unlock and are not customizable (what year is it again?)
    - Delivery custom presets often don’t remember what you set them to
    - XML imports are full of errors
    - Same btching as Premier - a sea of grey does not make for a good interface. Customizable panel colours would help so much.
    There’s a lot more...but I’ve forgotten most since I tried Resolve for an entire project and then promptly ran away from it. Yech.

    I thought it was just me. That sudden drop or lift while grading is crazy-making. And seriously, they have to address key-framing with a new interface - ideally one that works. The fact that you have to adjust X and Y separately if you're resizing something...it's just awkward and backwards.

    When using images/sounds/videos/graphics/whatever across projects, you should use Power Bins. They are universal bins that store assets across all DaVinci projects in your database. No more dragging and dropping when reusing assets. The same goes for Power Grades.

      For Position X/Y easing, the only solution at the moment is to use Fusion (bummy, I know). You could create a Cripple Hammer Fusion template that always comes in nicely eased and then move the composition around with the video controls to dial in the location.

  • @dustatron
    @dustatron 3 года назад

    I think your comments in this video are on point. The other thing that frustrates me is that when you make an edit or other changes to the timeline it always leaves a click selected. And when a clip is selected you can not add edits, key frame, change properties, or apply transitions to other clips. It requires that I constantly deselect everything before I can do what I want.
    I want it to de-select all clips after I add an edit. That's what premier does.
    Also I like to move to next and previous edit points with the arrow keys. But if a clip is currently selected I can only navigate to the beginning of a clip. I can never go to the end of a select clip with a hotkey.
    And if a clip is selected and I try to move to the next clip with an arrow key it seems to jump to a random clip not just the next one. This issue is more pronounced when there are many layers of clips.

    Resolve is aimed at a different crowd, so the things you call problems are the program's advantages. There are some really easy things that are a pain to learn (denoise... keyframing!), but as you use them you see the advantage.

    Also the Undo (ctrl z) doesn't work properly at all for me. It goes back multiple steps at once, especially when working with Nodes in the Color tab, this is very annoying because you can't even see which actions are actually undone. So I avoid using ctrl-z which is kinda ridiculous.

    About complaint 3, the tiny preview windows "that do nothing": you can use the in/out keys (i/o) to rough cut in the tiny window. So once you pull it into the timeline you only have a short clip that can quickly be fine-cut.

    The zoom timeline shift stuff is for sure a software bug, and likely hard to fix for them, if I had to guess. The glitch in the video if I had to guess especially given formats not affecting it will be a bug in your GPU or the driver or the way Davinci uses it to render stuff. Software rendering might be slow, but ffmpeg is pretty solid. +1 on most of the other usability things, though I'd urr on the side of "taking focus after file drop is normal" I do see your angle on it, being abnormal can be useful sometimes. In that case for the people that select A and B files and drop them together it would be an extra click to grab focus in the app again. I almost never drag and drop files, though, and you see to have a lot of stuff in your folders, not much hierarchy. If the file viewer was built in drag and drop would make perfect sense to me, I guess it does anyway, it's just not a part of my daily workflow.
