Great video, good idea to check the fuses to see if there are any open circuits. Then you checked the starter circuit from the ignition switch to the starter and confirmed that the starter was bad. Looking forward to part 2. Good diagnosis, I’m glad Ivan recommended your channel.
You probably dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can watch all of the new series on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my brother for the last few days :)
Maic thanks for sharing Bro👍 This is an interesting case study, I recently did a crank, no start on a BMW 740 & boy the dtc's were really distracting, after it started & ran terrible misfiring on cylinders 1 2 3 & 4 & a/f sensors heater circuit codes, finally we ended up replacing the icm😉 Looking forward to what unfolds in this case study Stay Safe Bro❤
Maic,I like your trouble shooting approach. Very organized and precise. You set a very good example. Could there be something else wrong after starter replacement I guess so but to me it looks like a hard starter fault. Did you try lightly tapping it? Just slight taps might of given you a little more confidence if it started. It's not the best way I know? Will thereby a part2? Or an update. Thank you stay well Artie ❤️🙏
Nice work! Any idea: Ml 55 2000 - Long crank then shuts off...1 turn of the key it cranks for a long time then shuts off- Any idea what that can be? Thanks
I didnt see you check the rear SAM. I saw another video where the high voltage in the rear SAM was a problem and actually a high amp fuse and wire were burnt. It was a no crank no start if I remember correctly.
I have the same issue on my 2003 c240. No crank, no start problem. Check the fuse #52, works fine. Check and test the starter relay, works fine. Then I check the supply voltage in starter relay, no voltage. What do you think problem sir?
Maic!
I do not think it will start without communication with engine control module and front sam. I would use autologic and verify no comms to both modules with a different scanner. Then I would check main powers and grounds to both modules and can communication wires to both modules. Thats what I would do
Maic Salazar Diagnostics I have used a scope on the brown and brown with red tracer on the can system on these cars before and the patterns look totally different than what im used to seeing on can. The green and green white wires on can look familiar. Any reason for this? The brown and brown red can works fine but its not typical wave pattern
@@mikesabin8568 it's because this car has high speed and low speed CAN. The SAM and the door modules work on K periphery the ECM, throttle control and EGS (transmission controller) works on D-can. They have different theories of operation. It can be confusing. But just read the theories of operation it will all make sense.
M6 Clk 220 Cdi has No Turn No Crank Issue but sometimes OK and other time it’s just intermittent . 240000miles changed Fuel Filter and Fuel pump relay .
Same here car won't start or don't hear it turn over !! Literally Stuck on the side of the road while typing comment idk if it's control module or Starter
This seems to be common fault on Mercedes and could be lethal if the car also cuts out while you are driving , had frequent no crank no start Issue on CLK 220 CDI 250,000 miles , I changed the Camshaft Sensor 2 weeks ago so far so good . This should be a recall from Mercedes or at least a free diagnostic test
You should have also checked the battery wire to the starter. It could have a short. But most likely you are correct that the starter is bad. Also depending on what year that car is, it may not send any other modules sognals to the OBD2 DLC. it may have a 38 pin proprietary DLC connection under the hood. If the 38 pin Mercedes connector is present then you will only get a reading from the engine computer and the transmission computer. You will need to connect to the 38 pin connection to get the other modules to talk to your scanner. Again. If it is present. By 2004 I think most Mercedes had done away with this connection. Also when you pierce a wire make sure you use liquid tape to cover the puncture, that way the customer doesn't come back a year from now with a wire that has corroded from water ingress. And another no crank no start. Just a few additional things to check.
I have the same problem with a 2005 C230. It won’t crank sometimes…Took it to the Mercedes mechanic and they can’t find the problem …They replace the starter, the computer, and now they said it was the shifter. They don’t have any idea why the car won’t start sometimes ….
What in the f**k are you talking about? You're going on about the Identafix system and pin #12, etc. I guess if I was a MBZ tech I'd understand what you're talking about.
Also need to check the gear gate if its communicating with the ECU to see which position it is otherwise if ECU reads that the car is in any drive position then you will surely get a no crank at all

@Camdyn Valentin yup, been using InstaFlixxer for months myself :D
like always, amazing class and very usefully and clean job, we lerning a lot, thanks and good luck

Did you fix it I'm having issues right now. New starter. All fuses and relays are good. Wont start or crank just a click.
Where is the starter relay location

That is an excellent comment . Try another scanner to see if communication exists.

mike sabin that is correct I have seen that too.
Maic Salazar Diagnostics why is it like that? Do you know? It bucks conventional wisdom on what to expect from the waveforms on can system

I had that problem. Water got in it. I drill holes in it and that fix the problem of driving with my alarm 🚨😂😂😂

Wish we could see the fuse box instead of the meter!!
Very easy to find pictures on line
Check starter ground if good check startor components (solénoïd or brushes)
I was expecting to see a Solution
My w203 has similar issue
I put the key in mine it didn’t do nothing but only fans
Did you ever figure it out mines doing the same thing

Before I watch the video I wouldn’t doubt there was oil on the wiring harnest which contribute to this problem

These car a complex. They need to scope the signals when no start to see what is missing, otherwise they will be replacing lots of unnecessary parts!
