Pike's Peak ANDIAL Power: 600HP Porsche 964 Turbo - One Take

- The Porsche 964 Turbo is a rare car in its own right; as the last of the rear-drive, single-turbo cars, the 964T was old school in a new world, and sold poorly in its time, making it a very rare sight today. This particular example is special in that, while it was an original Turbo from new, the build centered around one very special engine: a 600-horsepower ANDIAL motor that Porsche legend Jeff Zwart used in a narrow-body C4 to win the Pike's Peak Hillclimb Open Class in 1994.

Matt, you said this road is boring but you don't understand most viewers don't have roads like that by them. On this show you focus much more on trying to drive a road where you draw out the gears. Which I get, but it can get repetitive and a little slow. That road really spiced it up and offered a whole nother style of driving. I really enjoyed it. Especially with this car.
Yeah it was cool, but it would have been even cooler on something lighter on that tight road. Like a Lotus 6 or something would have been a hoot.
It reminded me of the back roads in West Virginia, where I lived for a while. I was imagining driving this car back there. This was an enjoyable video.
"a whole nother" ffs
I agree. I look for these roads just because you don't need a high horspower car but you do need a lot of skills. You get a different sense of excitement and experience throwing an old GT6, 914, 240Z, into those tight corners.
I really like the road you went on b/c the turns show off the ability of the car at low and medium to high speeds. It's roads like these that are needed to explore a car's capability. Good choice of roads to use.
I'm on board with this porsche, it's hot! literally and figuratively.
Yeah, the biggest luxury item in a car is not leather seats or heated steering wheel, its air conditioning. He said its not a race car its a drivers car, so put in the AC. I've owned two cars without AC and it sucked smelly clammy balls.
Jeff K I heard from some guy there is a powder for your sweaty balls, I am not sure who though.
@@jeffk464 agreed, this guy doesn't make sense.
Awesome! I remember an Andial Porsche being on the cover of Sports Car Magazine back in 1993. I still have it somewhere.
The roads in this part of California are just crazy. I have been a massive fan of Porsche for many years. This reminds me of riding in my uncle's 911 SC Targa. Thanks so much.
most beautiful car ive seen in a while, so timeless.
Man this brought back some memories. Decker used to be my jam when I lived out there. I drove from the valley and went up through those tight sections, got to the top and parked in that pulloff at 7:48. Then I would just skate west down decker to the beach, chill out for a while, then either hike or hitchhike the thousands of feet back up the hill and drive home.
Gooooood times....
This has to be one of my favorite cars you’ve reviewed on this channel, you’ve done a lot of Porsche’s now as well, looking forward to seeing your 930 in action!
I love how Matt puts the hammer down right as he passes a "Speed Checked By Radar" sign lol 9:27.
Really nice and historical Porsche, it was the latest hot model when I was in school, reminds me of my childhood days. This one is so cool with the wide body and this paint:)
Love your modified and oddball drives. Keep up the good work
Love how humble this guy is.
What a crazy road! Really glad to have seen this route, the detour was nice! +1
That's driving! Not a straight line boring thing.
I got road rage when the white SUV pulled onto the road in front of them after the construction zone
same
Fucking rich snob lol. I wish I could shoot out their tires silently.
Word. And then he/she left the left turn signal running, I was like, you're sooo not worthy.
Matt, that road was great! It's nice to have fast straightaways, but those back roads with tighter corners were very cool, mainly because there was a perspective on how fast the car is, as well as how composed the car handles.
Not sure if I can afford to watch this video...
Hahahaha we're still doing this? I love it!
you people get triggered so easy
Love these old modder Porsches, and that shade of blue is on point!
Thats actually a pretty sick alternate route and definitely an awesome build.
Hats off to these guys for putting together a fantastic car. I know it wasn’t easy.
Reminds me of the 23 fwy section up there. It attaches at my house so I run it often but it's so tight and twisty. Great section to drive. Cool car
Damn Matt that road is crazy like you did 10 to 12 turns
Micah Hill lololol
right, and they were not all in the same direction!
I'd like to see his comments about the tail of the dragon in North Carolina/Tennessee. 😂
Micah Hill it’s hands down a better stretch of road than 99% of those in Spain, especially compared to the crap ones around Ronda. All the European car manufacturers don’t know what they’re missing. Plus, overall, the food is leagues more tasty in California. Maybe one or at most two restaurants in Seville have a fighting chance against those in LA. And the wines, forget about it! Absolutely the world’s best.
What a gorgeous car, the colour, everything is pretty much perfect :o
Digging the blue on black. Looks fantastic
One of the, if not THE, most beautiful 964 in the world! As a whole!
That "loop" looks like so much fun to drive!
Impressive car, busy road.
And a shoutout to my hometown of Mesa, AZ
Matt, thats one of my favorite routes. Ripping my GT3 through that tight section is pretty fun.
That car is done right and that winding road is amazing. A GT350R would be fun on that road.
Man those roads! Can't wait to visit LA and drive them next year!
The color is 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
That ball powder is in full affect!
Well, I love it. Perhaps the most Porsche-iest Porsche I've seen on your channel, Matt. Would love to see a few laps on a closed road . . .
is there anything Matt loves more than AC? I don't think so
emilio blanco seats that actually make him fit 😎
Functioning brakes
Cool shirt
Balls cooler is close second imho😂😂😂
emilio blanco on center steering
Love the CIS system on this. I know it is not as efficient as modern electronic one, but they look really cool. Steampunk like cool.
BEST CHANEL ON RUclips WITH CARS
That crazy section of road reminds me of Mines Rd. up here near Livermore, except on Mines Rd. it's over 60 miles of that if you continue onto 130 and take it down into San Jose. Yes, over 60 miles of canyon carving on a road with almost no traffic and incredible views. It's awesome
David N
Except for all the bikers on the leg from San Jose to the observatory. I'd agree though about Mines Rd being fantastic, some of it is sloppy and you could catch a broken windshield from rocks if you're tailing the guy in front of you.
Nice video and great little road... I wanna do that piece in my Fiesta ST.
I did note that Mat said that driven at full tilt he could see it being scary, but driven like he did here, this seems like a very well sorted car. ..and it looks da bomb. ..and the engine is hella cool.
*Awesome content once again!*
Awesome guy and awesome car!
clicked SO FAST on this video, beatiful color 964!
That was lovely Matt !
Hey cool Porsche! Really nice to see a well done old Porsche. It sounds great, looks even better...and obviously is awesome to drive. Of course it is...it is a Porsche. Now, that being said...that is enough Porsche's for one takes guys...I think Matt has driven all of Stuttgart's finest in North America by now. Let's give him some other cool cars to drive. Come on ladies and gents, finish those projects and throw Matt the keys...
Also...funny how Matt calls that road "jankiest you have ever seen." Strange, it looks like a typical Alps or Pyrenees mountain road...or Amalfi Coast. Delightful curves.
Amazing 911. Sounds great for a turbo.
That weird section of road looks perfect for a bike!
This car is a dream come true.
I saw this car In person , super clean
I'm from Atlanta too.. when this guy first started talking, I thought he's definitely from the south.
There is definitely a strong Porsche scene here.
great stuff!
01:16 6800 rpm is what he wanted to say, the old 3.3 Turbo that was initially used in the 964 revs to 6800. Also the bigger problem with the early mechanical fuel injection system is that they are incredible laborious and outright difficult to tune beyond spec.
that super tight section is like taking the 138 south into crestline, ca. its an absolute blast but you're not getting out of second gear. it's kind of nice since you aren't really going fast enough to mame yourself if you mess up
Thanks Matt for a great feature! We are fortunate to now have this car on consignment from Tate. Your interpretation of how this car drives is spot on!
PS The color is a late 60's 911 color called Pastel Blue. We put the car next to Riviera and Mexico and it is lighter than both. Mexico is the darkest, then Riviera, then Pastel.
I was wondering about that color!
I saw this thing at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta. Amazing
Love the hair dryers. Best porsches ever made.
That road is insane
this is a super tight road”....come to england matt...i’ll show you some tight roads
Lukestersim :3 savage
he has canyons lol, this def isn't the tightest road he's driven in one take vids let alone the roads he doesn't film. England does have some good tight roads but just saying its not like matts hard up for choice! we have some decent driving roads in Australia also, though i'm forever mad jealous of the canyons :(
Yeah but they all suck.
Not sure if innuendo or....
or Japan, or Korea, or well....pretty much any country with Mountains and not the US
Prob my fav one take car to date.
Matt coming in HOT on that stop sign
It’s a beautiful car
that tail looks fantastic
That blue is awesome!
Now that is a great color
the most luxurious Porsche to date
Sound is epic
What a cool car!
Matt windows down or up doesn't make a difference, at least not to me. Can hear you both loud and clear either way.
Yeah, I agree. I think Matt should be more confident in his mic setting game. He sure had to and has learned a lot about this stuff :))
yep honestly the only time windows up/down seem to make a noise difference is in convertibles
Yeah lmao
Depends on the car, this car, for example, works fine with windows down.
Some cars, oh god...
So, I think Matt's playing it safe since he doesn't have the chance to check each car and test audio/video with windows down and see if it works
Saw this car the other day in Atlanta!
I don't know what you're talking about, that road looks AMAZING. The best road within 150 miles of where I live pales in comparison
That sounds killer! Perfect for the P-car rides in Colorado! F
Great stretch of road!!!
nice ride :)
im a sucker for a 90s porsche, why i own 5 of them lol. awesome car!
Oh yea i remember you, sold me that bridge a couple months ago...
What a great color
964 my favorite 911 of them all.
Wow. One of the nicest beetles I've seen.
Matt you should use this road more! I thought you said it was wonky? Sure it wasn't as fast as the canyon sweepers, but honestly, the canyon sweepers do get boring, not much you could see about the car there, but that twisty, technical little road was what made me love this car, it just did it so perfectly and beautifully, no fuss, just dives into corners, more than most other videos you made, I feel like I got a proper feel of what this car is actually capable of, and holy fucking shit I'd LOVE to be sitting shotgun in that going up Pike's Peak.
That road is so weird and slow, I don't like it. But the main reason I don't use this area very often is because there are a lot of houses and stuff over there. I don't like doing quick driving in neighborhoods.
so i learned from this video Matt is keeping the stereo-type alive that Americans don't like corners
matt thats my favorite part of the road!!
That's was an awesome road
Wow that car sure has a great moud’r!!
Wish I could see more details about the car and where this car is today. Very cool
What a great car
Great windy road for drifting
Fuck the AC, and heat.. This is a driver's car.. If your cold in the winter, the excitement will heat you up. And in the summer just the thrill moving through the gears, and then hitting boost. Will send a cool chill down your spine..
I like that road touge stuff.
Same color as my Wrangler, best color ever!
More roads like this!
I liked that tight road, it would be perfect for my Mini.
Matt you should drive this route more often
That thumbnail 🔥
That road in a modified supermini like a K10 March Superturbo would be my version of heaven.
Ok Matt, that road was awesome. Next small under-powered car you drive, take it to that road.
Matt with the rolex batman, what a fucking legend
That’s a great road.
wow... Fucking amazing...
Them retrofit headlights are sweet.
Great car....perfect.
My favorite color 😍
I respect your restraint as that Mercedes pulled out in front of you.
Just about the only thing I'd take over my M3. Love it.
