Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread that is my portion. Proverbs 30:8
Ecclesiastes 10:19 A feast is made for laughter, And wine makes merry; but money answers everything.
Yes....that's what I pray for......not riches...but just enough!
How come no one is quoting the slavery passages?
Yes! Thank you.
John 6:35 NKJV - And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
Money doesn't change you, it just reveals who you are when you no longer have to be nice..
Alot of truth in that.
Nice nonsense
That's the truth, very few people are "good people" when they have money because of this.
Money gives you more options -- not all of them good.
Very true!
If you view everything you have as a gift from the Lord and it is your job to steward it, then you will ALWAYS use what you've been blessed with to bless others.
Nichole Pearson It was only after I went to FPU did I discover the concept of what being a good steward means.
Amen!
Have you read "the man in the mirror"? The author talks about this. I agree with your statement.
Amen!
If you view everything is from the Lord, you do not have good thinking skills 🙄
If the prosperity gospel is true, then it needs to work everywhere at all times. Having been to the slums of Nairobi and volunteered in Kibera, I can say first hand that there are incredibly faithful God loving people there that live with raw sewage flowing past the sheet metal lean to that they call their home. They are not prosperous at all, but they have incredible faith.
Many of those people have been taught the poverty gospel for years, so they may have great faith but they have a wrong understanding of what the Bible teaches along these lines. Until they get their thinking corrected their situation isn't going to change.
How come you didn't stay there and live then? Poverty is a curse. Maybe they don't know that they can prosper and have a better life.
@@thelasthourgetready where in the bible does it say poverty is a curse and what is this godly power would undo said curse
The ones that gain the most are the evangelists and preachers preaching this
Tell us how we can tell how much another person loves God, and know how much faith another has.
Money is neither good nor bad. It merely serves as an amplifier of who we are. It helps us to manifest our values or lack thereof.
@JD as someone who has money, this is what I always says about it. Power and money just amplify everything and beyond all barriers.
Money is a wonderful servant but a terrible master
Wow, thank you Dave Ramsey. I just got a job as a mortgage loan officer & I've been feeling so guilty for putting myself in a position where I wont have to worry about money. I had NO IDEA you were a Christian! I can't wait to learn more from you.
How do you not have to worry about money as a mortgage loan officer? My husband has been an mlo for 15 months and we are nowhere near not worrying about money. It’s actually the exact opposite for us. I’m interested in hearing what you’re doing!
@@charisendicott No they meant worry about money that they are lending out to others
@@mountainmonkey15 oh ok that is not how I interpreted what the commenter said. To me it sounded like this person is an MLO and they have been feeling guilty for being in a well paid job so they don’t have to worry about money coming in. That is how I read it. Maybe I was wrong but that’s how it sounded to me.

@@Anto-kz5hk you're half right. Teaching salvation and how to come to God is transferable also an expectation.
Great to see Dave answer this question. People in other undeveloped countries shouldn't be condemned as faithless because they're impoverished. Many times God calls us who have to help them but we aren't acting on His clear will and direction.
Excellent point!
Some people in other nations are legitimately oppressed by their government, so it'd be such a terrible thing to accuse them of being faithless when they're just a product of circumstance
Note: The people in poor countries are blessed without measures by natural resources but the western governments have been exploiting them to their detriment. America says.. that development of third world countries is a threat to America, so they do everything using their dollars, military, qnd international organizations and sometimes a bad leader in those countries to permanently keep them underdeveloped and poor. Check out American Economic Intelligence Report of 1974.
@@ramseyabsessien8990 , I came from a 3rd world country, life was difficult and I always wonder, why God let me be born there. When I became a believer in Jesus and read the Bible, my life changed. I know my purpose, God's will for me , His plans, His empowerment through the Holy Spirit, direction , wisdom etc. ( many perish for lack of knowledge, knowledge in Word of God). I became a successful businesswoman( no college and poor), with God nothing is impossible, not with govt.
Why does an powerful god need help?🙄
In my humble opinion, “stewardship” is the key word.
I agree.
This was such a refreshing question/topic for discussion.
🤮
I love your comment, was thinking the same thing
The prosperity gospel is a damnable heresy and an abomination to the Lord
How are you defining Prosperity Gospel?
The same as everyone else is.
The same with your poverty gospel
I had a college religion professor insinuate to me in a discussion that the Dave Ramsey program is the prosperity gospel. After the discussion i found more than one video with Dave saying it's not the prosperity gospel.
So, i asked him later on about Proverbs 22:7, and acted like he didn't know about the verse.
The prosperity Gospel comes from pastors.....right? I don't see Dave Ramsey as a pastor, more like a financial advisor who is evangelical Christian.
I read it and without context sure... but with context I am not seeing it. Funny thing context is, it changes everything.
HeySmartGuy 98 They come from certain pastors who want to build mega churches and steal money. You can tell who their are because they use broad statements in the sermons and use the passion translation bible.
Yeah ... pretty sure that his catchline live like no one else today so you can live like no one else later, is referring to putting in a crazy amount of work and effort early on in your life ... most prosperity gospels push people to use God as a personal genie
Proverbs 22.7 means the rich rules over the poor and the borrower is a servant to the lender. If you don't want to be in this situation. Then Say No to borrowing money and work hard and save your money.
You give because you have been blessed to do so. So you are already blessed. I never believed you didn't "need" money though. But remember you reap what you sow ALL TIME, not just money wise. Be careful what you do ALL THE TIME, it comes back to you.
The beauty is that you don't have to have money to give. When I was out of work for a time, I gave my time to my church by making the church programs, tutoring some of the kids, and teaching a class on Wednesday night for free. You can be broke, but help your elderly neighbors around the house. Generosity in any form is welcome.
*"An abundant life whic is not everything but money, its everything including money"*
Yep
A sad life is sitting on RUclips daily and commenting
That sound like a page taken out of one of Joel
Osteen’s books
I dont understand this part, anyone can help me figure out whay this means?
@@lesterh9421 I understand it as: If you have everything except money, there's nothing that money could buy anyways. You have it already. So your life is the same as if you also had money, since your life isn't affected in any way by the amount of money you have.
When I first started looking for teaching on a Christian attitude to money, I got both the prosperity preachers and a famous preacher saying (shouting) wealth is always a curse! Then I found Dave!
One of the many prosperous qualities the Gospel provides is when you earn enough to be generous to the rest.
E:xactly I came do the god-given epiphany 14 years ago, that to affect the world, I needed larger tools. This understanding has sustained me through flood, hardship, and 110 hr work weeks inventing and building businesses around those inventions...and HAPPY to do it! $ isn't the goal, a better world is the goal $ is just a tool to achieve that...
Don't agree with that. There is no guarantee of any financial prosperity in the life of a Christian. Look at the Jerusalem saints in the first century. They were all poor. That is why Paul took up a collection from the church at Corinth. It took over ten years for that money to reach Jerusalem.
Absolutely! A great reason to wrestle with this concept until you can come to courage and wisdom.
I appreciate that Dave talked about both ends of the spectrum. When I was in college, I often felt judged by several of my Christian friends/colleagues just because I had a job making decent money and wasn't pursuing a career in ministry. Those that are in ministry as a profession should be careful about this so that they don't develop a "holier than thou" attitude. They might even take a very literal stance on Jesus' command to "follow me" to the point where they own next to nothing, make no money, and are basically funded or live off of money given by others. You can't have 100% of the church body living this way. It just doesn't work.
It can also go the other way. I was close with a pastor who is now a megachurch pastor wearing $600 shoes. I am not sure if his mistress, at least back then, will ever expose him and their secret child.
@@strnglhld True.
My church, one of the first sermons I heard was how people are made for different things in the body of Christ, some will be the business owners that are blessed to bring money, if God wills it, some you won't be the business you might just serve in church, bring the energy etc.
They talked about the history of our city, where many Christians were actually the owners of businesses that has become big global brands.
They didn't promise we'd all be business owners though, they preached that Prosperity was a poison, and I believe the talking about business owners part was actually when they wanted to complete their trashing of the prosperity gospel by saying don't go towards poverty gospel either.
If you're worried that having money is immoral, donate it to the church. If they accept your donation it must be ok to have money.
😂😂😂
You reap what you sow, its true about everything in life.
not for everyone. plenty of people make a huge effort and never get paid. God, life, fate, the universe... whatever it is, plays heavy favorites
@@sumobowler3790 huge efforts doing the wrong things will always lead to the wrong results tho. I havent seen sowing and reaping fail
You reap what you sow but there’s also a lot of sin in this fallen world. Sometimes bad things happen and it’s not a direct result of our disobedience.
Nope, not at all. How is it athiests prosper but Christians starve? 🙄
@@anthonynosike I am sure you have. You just use confirmation bias and ignore the misses
Having money is not a problem, no matter how much you have, as long as you put the Lord first. The Scriptures say "For the love of money is the root of all evil, and some people, craving money, have wandered from their true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:10). Never make an idol out of money!
Amen
Money makes a good servant but a bad boss.
I have a lot of money and don’t believe in God. But I’m not evil. I hope you don’t assume that of others.
I’ll take the money you can have Jesus
Agreed, having wealth is a tool that can be used to finish the Great Commission that Jesus Christ commanded for believers to do.
Most Christians have no understanding of scripture concerning prosperity. I think Mr. Ramsey did a good job of answering the mans question. I agree with Mr. Ramsey on his idea of long term wealth not trying to get rich quick. Scripture talks about that. There is the sowing and reaping and it does work but the key is did God lead you to do it. People here just a little and think hey I can just do whatever I want and it will work but it doesn’t. We do it Gods way according to scripture not someone’s opinion. Matthew 6:33 seek ye first the kingdom and all these things will be added to you. Read that whole chapter. God and His things come first before family, before our own wants etc. like Mr. Ramsey said God is good and he wants to bless us we just have to do it his way. Yes there are crooks in ministry just like any other profession. It doesn’t do away with the real though. As far as people being poor means they’ve done something wrong that’s crazy. Now they may not know God wants them to not be poor because someone told them he does. God has a specific plan for each of our lives and on that plan is the peace of mind, the fulfillment we are missing and also the blessings. Money is a tool it can be used for good or evil. Money and stuff has nothing to do with going to heaven but it does make life here easier. We can’t bless and help others if I don’t have extra at least financially. Gods has been lord on for hundreds of years by the devil deceiving his people. God can bring someone out of poverty in any part of the world no matter how poor you think they are. If people don’t know he’s good they don’t expect him to be good.
Calls like these are why I love and respect Ramsey Solutions!✝️😊
I appreciate you talking about this subject, Dave! It's great to hear your perspective.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success

For citations, it is best to go to the source. The rich young ruler shows the heart in the wrong place. Luke 18:18-34. The parable of 10 talents. Matthew 25:14-30. Father provides. Matthew 6:28. Provide for your family 1 Timothy 5:8. Do not be an enabler. Matthew 7:6. Giving. Luke 21:1-4. Tithes and offerings. 2 Corinthians 9:7. Luke 6:38. 1 John 3:17. Matthew 6:24.2 Corinthians 9:1-15. Saving money 1 Corinthians 16:2. Paying your taxes Matthew 17:24-27.
It is pretty clear we are called to be good stewards. We are to handle money wisely. Invest and grow, provide for needy, provide for your needs with savings, pay your taxes, care for your family, etc. Churches teaching greed are wrong. Churches teaching poverty are also wrong. Being fruitful, paying your taxes, wise investing, and above all with a loving heart knowing all your blessings are the Lord's, and you are the steward or caretaker of it. You are the Lord's financial advisor. Treat his gifts with grace and loving care. Do not be the fool and waste it on frivolous things. Save for your retirement so you are not a burden to others. Save for your kids school. Bring money to your church's storehouse so they can provide for the members in time of need. Does your church actually provide for members in time of need? You hear about churches all the time raising money. Do you hear about the churches assisting with rent, utilities, and other needs? The church I attend approached me when my wife died and I was unemployed. An elder approached me and asked if I needed assistance. Due to good stewardship, I did not need assistance yet, but this is how I found out about my local church fulfilling this scripture's requirement. I am back to work and make special donations to the Fellowship Fund at my church to help with members in need during this crisis. Where your money is your heart will be also. Luke 12:15. Matthew 6:19-21.
What source? A translation of a copy of a copy of a copy? Matthew, mark, Luke and John are not even the ones who wrote those books. It's anyomous they never signed their work 🙄
I consider this matter settled. Good on Dave for really tackling this subject. In Mark Then Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." Jesus gave this answer as a response to a question that boiled down to “is it right to pay taxes to the emperor?” Now the men asking the question were trying to get him in trouble but if they had been sincere, a simple question would have followed “What belongs to God?” I want you to think about what the Bible does fundamentally for us. It does many things but the two fundamental things you should have gleaned from reading it. 1.There is a God 2.He Loves you. Jesus dying on the cross was his message to his willingness to see us with him. In Matthew 6:21 it says”For where your treasure is, there your HEART will be also.” If your HEART is not with God then it’s irrelevant how little or how much you have because honestly, the both of you are in the same boat. God wants YOU! Money is just a piece of paper that has a trust that you can exchange it for goods or services and to treat it in any manner other than this is foolishness.
This is maybe the best talk I have heard from him on money.
Wow Dave thanks for discussing topic. Sir you have my respect. Thanks for your strong convictions and expressing them without shame. Your channel has been a blessing for my marriage.
It is so much easier to practice your faith if you are financially secure. It is easier to act ethically and with integrity when you do not have to worry about financial consequences. Being in good shape financially means you do not have to worry if doing the right thing costs you your job. That is the world we are living in.
having money doesn't make you a bad person. conversely, just because you have money, doesn't mean you are a good person. it's how you got it, and what you do with it. like adversity doesn't build character, it reveals it.
Successful people don't become that way overnight. What most people see at a glance-wealth, a great career, purpose-is the result of hard work and hustle over time.
Yeah! I agree with you sir.
If you want to be successful have the mindset of the rich, spend less and invest More. Don't give up your dreams.

While their is nothing wrong with riches in and of themselves, they also come with a great responsibility attached to them.

Luke 12:48, "But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes.
For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more."
.
Agur prophesied to Solomon some truths, and this is one of them:
.
Proverbs 30:8-9, "
(8) Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
(9) Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain."
.
Basically it's best to be somewhere in the middle. It is a lesson for all of us.
.
Ecclesiastes 1:2, "Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity."
.
Glory to God
Totally agree Dave, this makes sense. God wants us to be whole, wholeness, in our society must include finances. It’s the love of money, when that’s your goal/motivator, it’s definitely getting off track spiritually. We love/trust God, God then in turn, provides.
Good explanation Dave!

As a Haitian, I wonder, according to the prosperity gospel, what The Haitian Christians did wrong to be in hopeless poverty. They didn't tithe enough? Manifest their destiny? Believe enough?
F.-J. J. It’s critical to point out, that Christianity is not the official religion/philosophy of Haiti.
Christianity is a load of rubbish built by the Romans to exploit and tax the working classes. Haitian economy is stuff because women haven't been empowered to have control over their own reproductive functions. The total population is far too high for the opportunity the land provides. Only God knows your heart, I also know that it pleases God to give what excess you have away, as a way to show your commitment to God...I also know that we as a society know what excess is, even tho we like to toss around the definition of it and pretend it means something different to different people. I also know that we humans, by our very nature will not live without the things we have that make our lives comfortable. I also know that wealthy people define " comfort" differently than the rest of society, and they will inherently justify sustaining that level of comfort. The rest of us can take comfort in knowing it's not up to us to prove that one way or the other... I have never know wealth, but I have known real poverty on a scale that most Americans have not. Everyone will be schooled in their level of sacrifice in their own due time... Including Dave Ramsey,

I’ve been troubled in the spirit about this question.
You can tell at the end Dave really liked that guy.
I believe as Christians we are to be good stewards of money and think wisely and I know so many Christians who think " suffering" is a way to pay homage to Jesus. If anything it's offensive. No one can suffer enough to match what Jesus went through so the best way to honor God is to become successful and help others

Dheravada Buddhism faces this fear of money and wealth too. We are taught that accumulating money is wrong and being rich equals being greedy. Until I found the true teachings of Buddha himself about managing money which are many and they all are thorough, organised, easy to understand, that liberates me hugely.

money is important, important for your family, livelihood, etc… what it is NOT is a measure of your morals or you're belief in a God. I'm also an atheist who grew up in the Catholic Church and have not only an interest in theology, but an interest in Jesus Christ, who may or may not be real, who preached egalitarianism. Really glad you touched on this topic, there are definitely a sect of your audience who listens to you like crazy but follows the prosperity Bible and could use the refresher.
Thank You Dave!
I agrree with Mr. Ramsey. Thank you for sharing.🙏🙏🙏
Here's the thing.....Let every man have the desires of their own heart, and covet NOT thy neighbors possessions. If you want to be rich, be rich, if you want to be poor, be poor. You know when you are content in your own situation, when you find no fault in your neighbors situation whether they be rich or poor. If you start having a problem with yourself....dont start envying your neighbor and wishing that their lives were more like yours......Just get up and change your situation so that you can be happy for yourself and for others.
the bible says we are to be good stewards of gods money. yes the money belongs to god. and he didnt say to live it up like the joneses.
Joshua Not all of us Joneses are rolling in it, believe me 🙄
@@szqsk8 haha good point 😂
Money makes the world go around. But the the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Where your treasure is there will your heart be also?
What's really wrong with the prosperity gospel is the fact that it doesn't ever tell people or hold people accountable to work and earn their dollar. It also doesn't preach staying out of debt and budgeting and investing. And that's the difference between Dave and those prosperity preachers.
Important .needs to be addressed to many Christians churches here in India as well as the world .
Reminds me of the reward based marriage ideologue. I was at a men’s event with a church a few years back. The speaker/preacher literally said, “Guys, this is how it’s gonna go. You are gonna go home and ask your wife, ‘How can I best help you out?’” He proudly told us that he was doing this with his wife daily and that his marriage was very good because she was happy with his deeds. And he was happy because he then got what he wanted after the kids went to bed! This IS NOT anything close to how Jesus loved. Marriage is not a reward based contract, it’s not contractual at all! The way GOD created marriage is through a covenant between a man and woman and HIMSELF. Marriage, like tithing, is not a, “I do for you and you do for me,” reward based system. It’s a very accurate depiction of what Jesus did for the world. A sacrifice which includes no strings attached…a true love…agape love at its truest form! God Bless!
The Gospel Itself promotes prosperity as one of the meanings of prosperity is successful, flourishing, thriving condition. Jesus declared that He came that we might have life and life more abundantly.
The issue with the "prosperity gospel" is that it's unbalanced as the focus is mainly material wealth. I believe that the presentation of prosperity solely in this way gives the impression that the Lord doesn't care how else we live in other areas of life.
Free will - the choice is yours just understand the consequences. My cc debt kept me away from loving myself😱 as well as God and Jesus
True . Scriptures have to be glorified
"A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry, but money answereth all things"- Ecclesiastes 10:19...
Greed is the root of all evil, not just the love of money.
It is the love of money or greedy is a sin. God gave wealth for Solomon, Abraham & David. I don’t understand this is a difficult thing to understand.
Sin is a religious construct 🙄
Blessed to be a blessing!!! 🙌🙌🙌
“I’ve noticed that poor people don’t feed hungry kids!” Wow!
Jesus expressed that the poor would always be among us (in need), that is why believers must have wealth, do they can be a help to the poor! As we help the needy, we are helping Jesus (so to speak)! 🙌🙌🙌
What we do for those in need (the poor and needy) we do to Jesus!
Good to hear yes. I have a friend that's propresty but I need a favor for something personal wow I never got an answer two people call friends did this to me God will provide I see how money change them.
Thanks Dave for the great insight.
There are different “flavors” of faith. There are people that truly believe that God exist but don’t believe that God will interfere with money.
Blessed to be a blessing. That's what we are. How will you get there? How will you use it and how will you give it?
In my experience the prosperity gospel ppl tend to worship faith itself instead of the object of our faith. Jesus.
Simply put!!!! It’s true.
Wow Joshua! Interesting perspective
I don’t think most of them understand scripture enough to worship anything other than what their pastor tells them to do. That gospel has ruined so many lives because it teaches ppl to forsake Jesus by chasing whatever it is that will bring them riches instead of chasing Christ. If we seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness, all things will be given to us, ALL. I worked hard all my life and was married to someone who didn’t manage God’s resources well. We stayed in debt and stress. After my divorce I took control of my own finances and took financial peace university. But I lost everything in that marriage so had to start over at 43 yrs old. But I learned so much through Financial Peace University. I got it together but it took about 6 years to recover and even be able to buy another house. But I was fortunate to buy a home that was a foreclosure and repaired it. I got remarried 8 yrs after that marriage and we paid off that house I bought before we married after 4 yrs of marriage so it was paid off in 12 yrs total. We have no debt and we are working on building our 401k’s, our IRA’s and we already have a fully funded emergency account. We have the freedom to support 4 Christian organizations and 1 non Christian organization that do great work in saving lives of children. So money is needed but it should not become our God. Actually what we have ultimately belongs to God. If we could just keep the mindset that not any of what we have belongs to us, we wouldn’t chase the dollar, we would chase God and He would supply every need we have and then some. He does it for me everyday and I have cancer and He provides the resources for me to get the care that I need to continue on as He has me here to do His will. But I will say, being outta debt afforded me to be treated at the number one hospital in the world for the type of cancer I have. We could afford to live in another city on and off for 1 and 1/2 year and still maintain our home easily because we had an emergency fund and no debt. I wouldn’t have gotten the care I received if we had not been financially able to stay in another city to go through the treatments. I don’t like the prosperity gospel because there are holes in their messages but I do believe in being a good steward over everything God has blessed us with and that’s why we have been able to do the things God has us do. But let me tell you this too, my chemo meds are $17,000 plus a month and God supplies that too because the manufacturer gives us the meds for free. They work up something with this hospital to where their patients get the care they need no matter the cost. So for me I see God in everything I do because sometimes it’s not always through money, but not one of us can purchase favor, that a gift and God bestows His gifts on whomever He desires to give them to.
Great advice here!
yes, btw the expression 'Camel going through The Eye Of The Needle' refers to a Gate in Jerusalem, called The Eye of the Needle during Jesus' time!!! They would close the gate at night for security and so any straggler coming in late at night with his camel , they would open a small door in the gate and the camel would need to go onto it's knees and basically go on it's knees through the Eye Of The Needle gate to get inside the safety of the city gates! Even more so if as was the case, the camel would be laden with goods and riches- camels were used as transportation for goods and riches! So the Camel had to go onto its knees in order to get with its merchandise and riches through the Eye of the Needle gate into Jerusalem!! Going on their knees means humbleness! SO every night Camels would indeed go through the Eye of the Needle and with their riches! But it meant doing so with humbleness!
I've heard this before and don't mind the lesson it gives of humility but it is incorrect and not the meaning of that passage. Jesus is saying what he's saying as a ridiculous word picture to point out the impossibility of man to save himself. We know this by preceding context of the rich young ruler and the following verses. "Who then can be saved? With man this is impossible but with God all things are possible"
@@immaturechildofgod I can see your perspective! Nonetheless, there WAS indeed a gate with a small door for camels with their riches to go through at night in Jerusalem called "Eye of the Needle" and camels would go through there on their knees at night. Historical fact that certainly contemporaries of Jesus were familiar with :) Like much in the Bible, there are levels and layers of understanding
@@immaturechildofgod P.S.: there were many many Super rich- what we nowadays would call Billionaires amongst the men of the Bible: - just think of Abraham, Isaac and Josef all being massively rich as well as powerful rulers. The disciples knew this- sometimes what the disciples say in response to Jesus shows more of their disbelief or hard-headedness...:)
There’s no gate! That parable means exactly what Jesus said. Wealth doesn’t buy you into heaven. It doesn’t buy you hierarchy in heaven. It’s adequately clear in that verse. Poverty doesn’t buy you into heaven either. Tickets to heaven aren’t for sale so stop selling them.
