I had a mini. Now, I have an mx5. They are both great but for very different reasons. Mini handlles fabulously. Has a serious pickup ad can handle turns amazingly. Miata feels powerful and is more comfortable driving for road trips. Both economical and goodlooking. Unfortunately, mini is reputed for breakdowns and expensive repairs. Mine comoletely blew its engine and lost transmission at low mileage. Miata is reputed for being long lasting and easy to fix. Much cheaper than mini to fix. Basically, I would just always have one of each. Lol.
Dont get an automatic ( or a second gen mini in general ) those are plagued with reliability issues, my first gen mini cooper s with a manual trans , and heavily modified , at 135,000 miles , and has only had a few minor repairs.
Interesting, I have had my Mini Roadster for three years and I have had no issues so far? I've had an MX5 and it was more unreliable. So I guess it's your own personal experience that informs your opinion, right?

Good review. I don't need to slide around. Mini for me!
With a mini, you are going to be in the shop most of the time anyways.
Gary Singh That's too bad :( is that true of BMW cars in general?
TheBooban I don't know about BMW itself, but mini coopers are considered one of the worst cars as far as reliability is concerned.
