I like hexamine stoves. They're cheap, compact and reliable. And, since dragon fuel isn't readily available in Asia, I've used 'em a fair bit.
Smoke aside, the thing I dont like is the sooty residue they leave on the bottom of your mug or pot. Makes cleaning and packing more of a chore.
But, as a backup, or extra, they're hard to beat.
