“This guitar doesn't really inspire me.”
*then commences into beautiful improv guitar playing*
This has been the wildest revelation for me because people seemed to like the music in this one, yet even as I was editing I said "yeeesh I don't like any of this" lol
You including names and pictures of pedal that you use at a certain moment in the video is an amazing addition, thank you.
Beautiful! You had me at Charcoal Frost.
Not that I don’t enjoy hearing your all about the guitars and giving your opinions on them, but I really enjoy watching these for the breaks between of you playing. You play all sorts of different music and I love it. You do a great job showcasing the different sounds you can get out of these guitars.
I just discovered your channel, and I must say... you instantly became my new favourite youtuber! Amazing content, positive vibes, amazing playing. Totally love it.
Thank you Tomáš!
@@Puisheen mine too.
Less than 2 mins in and I already know I’m going to love this one. Your demo riffing just keeps getting better and better dude!
Love the channel Mike hope you absolutely smash the guitar community because this is one of the best music channels I’ve seen
Dude your videos are amazing - like all around. Great commentary, insight, and your playing is hypnotic. I love the format of this particular video.
This is so kind, thank you!
Love it, thanks for sharing! Gotta agree with you on that finish. It's super pretty without being either obnoxious or boring.
I’ve tried so hard to love jags. Have bought and sold so many but never gelled. My MIJ finally clicked it for me. I love the pickups. Beautiful playing.
Mike you inspire me to play so much its insane, ur videos always have the friendliest vibes
That Intro Demo.... What a riff!
As always, just great stuff. Thx once again.
Demo #4 -- amazing!
Great review. I'm guessing anyone watching _this_ channel is unlikely to be put off by some lacklustre parts on such a good looking guitar - since you make fiddling in the guts of the guitar look like so much fun.
The camera angle in the Demo 2 section is wild. It makes the 3 2 and 1 string look thicker than the others. lol thanks for the videos. I have wanted a Jag since i was a kid but went another direction for decades but never forgot. Now the Jazzmaster looks like a must buy at 63. I have never had a guitar with tremolo but have decided I would rather have this system than the standard strat trem. I could care less about a floyd rose. Not into it. I may do a classic vibe first because I realize I'm likely going to have to work on it and that would be a good mod platform to change the tremolo system on. Neck shim etc to get the perfect set up and tension for me. I see no real purpose for myself in locking tuners aside of changing strings faster but then again. I'm not a tremolo person yet. thanks, I always learn something functional about a guitar when I watch your channel that I did not know before. Well, not every time but often.
having recently acquired a '18 MIJ 60's Jazzmaster, I'm really looking forward to the next video... not that this one wasn't thorough-going and informative!
Surprisingly I like these pickups
"Demo 4" top notch 👏
Hey, Mike! Just wanted to say that I love your channel! Your energy and enthusiasm for the offsets makes me love them even more than I already have. You inspired me to get the AVRI vibrato for my classic vibe jazzmaster, the Fuck Overdrive and the Wood Cutter. Cheers!
Thank you so much!!!
that colour is amazing!
Great video as usual! Gotta chime in on the vibrato arm issue and say that my 1993 mij Jag came with the machined end that locks it into the collet. It’s not without flaws though as the collet bottoms out as the cavity route is too shallow, certainly not as deep as my 84 mij Jazzmaster which also has a different shorter collet. Seems like after nearly 40 years they’re still working out the kinks in production!
You’re a cool dude Mike. If it wasn’t for your videos I would never have known why my Jazzmaster wouldn’t stay in tune. Please move to Australia!
Oh... my... gosh! That color is awesome! I just got the Squire CV 70's Jag in black - and so wish it came in this color. Great tone too. No way I could afford one of these though (currently). Thanks for another great vid! Your playing inspires me. :)
Mr Mike you make that Japanese Jaggy sound so good
I feel so lucky to have a Squier Jazzmaster with a perfect silent Vibrato ahah
Vintage modified?
Man...that was some excellent playing.
What a beautiful jaguar
bro the stuff you play is always killer asf
Pretty interesting Video or should I say video collection with all differences to the jag versions😃I finally got my crafted in japan Jaguar between 2002-2004 in olympic white and I'm totally in love with that🙂
Thanks for the video!
I'm so glad god put you on this planet the same as me , thanks for all the you work you do .
you also saved me the Trogly's show
What do you not like about trogly’s? Just curious
Great demo and info as usual!
I have an older Fender MIJ Jag, it complements my Marr Jag.
I wish there was a good direct source to get these new Fender MIJ / CIJ Jags in the US. I'd prefer these to MIM. Offsets still seem to be popular in Japan.
I love your hate for treble.
Gotta agree with the pickups, I have a CIJ jag and they squealed like crazy. Had them potted and they're at least usable now. Same issues as well with the trem arm, but I upgraded to a Mastery bridge + vibrato and the sound came alive.
Personally though, I prefer a guitar that doesn't need work/upgrades (since it costs a fair amount for the parts + labor if you're not a professional tech).
Looking forward to your MIJ Jazzmaster review! Yes, tremolo and pickups are weak points on these MIJ, but otherwise the rest is a top notch guitar! I love my LH 60s traditional JM, and with a mastery bridge/tremolo and Creamery Pus it's a beast!
I absolutely LOVE the positivity, upbeat nature, and overall happy demeanor of yourself, Mike, and all these videos. However.... I can't wait to hear Mike rant about Vmod Jazzmaster pickups,😂hahaha
Another phenomenal video as always! I'd definitely love to try a Jaguar someday!
Offset guys are always either the happiest people you’ve ever met, or are one string popping out of the saddle away from ending it all. No in between😭
Eric you are the best!
I saw a Mercedes SUV in that color and it was amazing, especially in the sun.
Thanks for posting this! I was wondering about the V-Mod pickups. I love the Jaguar, but as a lefty my options are super limited. I had a Kurt Cobain model and loved the short scale and the feel, but the DiMarzio pickups were way too hot for my liking. I was thinking of Mod shopping one with this color and AV 62 pickups once I get some consistent money again if there isn't any new releases coming down the pike for the 60th anniversary coming up.
I wish you were in an extremely famous band so I could find myriad RUclips videos teaching your playing quirks and style, because I'd love to steal some of your guitar idiosyncrasies! Love your sound, man
Lol don't I wish too haha
Damn man that thing starting at 15:43... Just mindblowing, you're a beast
It reminds me of the intro to "You Know You're Right" by Nirvana
I don't mind the mod jag pickups, currently using them on my mim player jag (which is well modded now). Also re locking tuners, I use them on the player jag, they have one advantage which is speed of restringing. but on my more vintage(like) models, all have gotoh kluson style tuners.
I got the traditional 60s jaguar with Japanese made pickup , they sound petty bright to my ear.
Consider a review if you get one on your hand.
I'd like to see your review of the Japanese offset Tele!
the vibrato bar rattle is even present on american originals from the 60s . You can hear it loud on some Vintage units on Norman´s rare guitars demos. This jaguar ( the one on the video) sounds amazing tbh. I have a japanese one from 2008 I think (according to the s/n, same year I bought it) and is still sitting 1 m behind me rn. Great axe (pickups were extremely microphonic but nothing a set of duncans can´t solve)
thanks man.
Yeah-Zeus Kris-Tos, that thing is pretty!
You can wrap more string on locking tuners, kills the intent but you can certainly do it.
I just bought its Jazzmaster cousin. I blame you for it my friend...
Also, what an instrument...
Another great vid Mike, and good to note on the VMod pickups - I saw a good deal on them locally for a build I'm planning but I want to lean more on the classic Jag sound.
And to all who aren't on there already - Mike's Patreon is a real cool part of the internet, sign up, even if nothing else then for the Discord!
If one were looking for a Jaguar model with THE Jaguar sound (as well as one that doesn't have the bridge issues you've mentioned in other videos) do you have a recommendation for one?
Hey, I just ordered one of these guys in sherwood green metallic. Is there any reason for the lack of video content on them? This is the only video I can find.
Is the tailpiece a bit closer to the bridge than usual on that guitar?
My favorite Fender color! I love locking tuners because I suck at changing strings. That being said, those vintage style locking tuners are not my favorite.
GodDAMN. That Loomer sounds THICC
I just bought a Fender Player Jaguar.I’m not really sure what modifications to make to it.
Have you tried the Squier version? I love metal flakes on paint.
Rock on 🤘🏻
Thank you for explaining the bright/dark pickups treble behavior thing, didn't know that.
Btw how do you do that gradual swell sound playing behind the bridge at 16:00? Volume pedal with tons of reverb?
Yeah, that was my volume pedal gradually fading in with fuzz in front of it and reverb behind it
You gotta film an a/b comparison of this guitar before and after you upgrade it. Just a quick jingle! Gotta hear your epic handiwork man!
I wish I had time for that, but doing two vids and two setups/upgrades in a week's time was just too much!
@@Puisheen understand, your videos are awesome man. I’m learning a lot and they are always very inspirational. Cheers! ☕️
I could just binge on your Jaguar videos Mike! Any idea what an American would expect to pay for new MIJ Jaguar (without having to travel to Japan)?
I honestly have no idea!
I've been thinking of getting thIs little brother to my JM, just unsure if 2x guitars in the same distinctive colour is a bit over the top. I think a Jaguar perhaps might look better in a more traditional colour preferably a bit beaten up. 😂
What is the song you start playin around 6:10 ?
I just picked up a Lake Placid blue made in Japan Traditional 60s Jaguar would be curious to see how it compares with the hybrid, the vibrato is still noisy as hell!
Pleaaase, what song did he playat the starttt
How can you tell from the outside it’s a Japan model (shape)?
Great video again mate. What's your opinion about the fender pure vintage pickups for an upgrade on a FSR pink cv 70's Jag? I did all the set up adjustments you proposed at your bench video and review plus I polished the fret edges and sanded out the stickiness of that neck.. now I m waiting the stewmac shims to arrive in Berlin and I m ready to fly in the pink sky with her. But I know I have to swap the stock pickups sooner or later in order to fly higher.. So here in Germany the fender pure vintage are in a resonable price but thinking of the lipsticks of Lollar too. Was wondering which one of them? The cold medium or the hot lipsticks.. it would be great to see a video from you talking about those 4 pickups.. Another upgrade I might do is as well is the Halon bridge from those greek guys..please make a video in the future of this bridge too!! Be safe and enjoy life. Greetings
The PV pickups are fine for Jags. I don't like the PV Jazzmaster set at all, but the Jags usually do the trick for me.
I liked it
Huh. You might've sold me on the V-mods. I keep my amp settings at noon. i was toying with the idea of a jag with a mini humbucker in the bridge. Also, this was some of my favourite playing of yours.
Hey Mike, what where you qualms with the AM Pro series one? I know the toggle position and bridge width were definite bothers for me. (On the jazzy)
I have sooooo many complaints, and when I get one in for review I shall enumerate them. I wrote a lot about them over at mmguitarbar.com
I really want this one. Can’t find it!
Hi Mike. Thanks for another great video! Just a question - do you think the incorrect spacing in japanese vibratos is a real issue? Or what do you consider most problematic vs AVRI vibrato? Thanks!
Indeed I do! The slimmer spacing introduces lateral pull on the strings, which makes them far more likely to skip out of their saddle slots
daamnnn!!!!
I would love to see you review the Kurt Cobain Jaguar
I’d love to see your reaction to the bridge and the pickups
Ngl
I love your playing Mike ..on talent you should be in a band that rules
Bless u
I don't know, those pickups sound pretty good to me. Slightly darker Jaguar tone isn't a bad thing.
Doom party of one; your Jaguar is ready...
i have locking tuners on my les pauls just question ive never tried but cant you still put more wraps on locking tuners just leave extra string length to wrap .
You can with most (these have a cutout at the contact point and then the shaft gets thicker) but that also defeats the purpose of the locking mechanism. At that point, may as well just use regular tuners
hey, mike? you.rock.
I love mine- pickups are absolutely terrible. What replacement pickups would you recommend?
We went with Antiquities in this one and it sounded like a totally different guitar! Otherwise, Novak and Lollar
I bet you don’t happen to know what size gotoh tuning machines these things use do ya? I want to replace the ones in my traditional 60s jag
To my knowledge Gotoh only makes one size of Kluson-style tuner. Unless you mean the headstock bushings, which should also be a drop in fit.
Is "demo 2" an actual song or just you riffing? Because it sounds awesome
Yep, and thanks!
Fender knocked it out of the park with the Pure Vintage Jag pups. You’re totally right. The V Mod pups are very sterile.
when you first strated playing, i thought there is no treble cause you dont like treble, but no, those are just really dark pickups
Is that a DS9 Niners patch? 😱
Are the "traditional 60s" models similar or different in sound to this? I bought a traditional 60s Jagaur recently and it sounds nothing like my 90s Olympic white Jaguar (CIJ). Really having trouble with the Traditional 60s model's Sound. It gives me ear fatigue, sounds harsh, seems less "a libel and jangly and has a more generic EQ yet everything seems a little "overblown" too, and it's feedback sounds to shrill and siren like to be usable (whereAs with my other jags I can get some nice noise rock feedback going). I've tried lowering and heightening the pickups, swapping the pickups to lollars and tried 9 gauge and 11 gauge string sets but in all cases it just doesn't sound like a Jaguar to me.
Now that's interesting! The Traditional '60s are different from the Hybrids, which do have the VMod pickups, while the trad has "Vintage Style Single Coils". What that exactly means, I don't know. Does your CIJ still have its original pickups and electronics? I ask because Japanese Fender pickups almost always sound exactly the way you've described the Trad, and that leaves me wondering what the difference is!
@@Puisheen I bought the CIJ second hand in 2015. the previous owner had put in a mustang bridge, but apart from that I believe the pickups were stock as they look old and the screws are quite rusty ha ha. The neck on the CIJ is super thin too which I love. The only other differences I can think of is that the Trad 60s one is basswood body (not alder like the CIJ) and I did have grounding foil stuff put in the CIJ to stop extra hum but I don't believe they were waxed (unless it occurred before i owned it)
can fender mute system be installed? like on original american series>
Sure can, just needs the hardware and some drilling
To be fair the jangle loop grunge shoe gaze thing some how was something only achieved on a jaguar so you dont take a L on the jam at all
come for the review stay for the absoutly killer tone....
Mike, I just picked up an American Professional Jazzmaster (v1) for a good price. Interested in hearing what your dislikes are with that guitar.
The Jazzmaster review will be out in a few weeks, but if you want to read about some of my issues with that lineup check out my American Pro thoughts at mmguitarbar.com
Hope you review an American Original Series Jag . I have one and I would be curious to know your impressions.
Good news, I did!
Seen someone selling one for 900$ but I feel like its too good to be true. Any tips for buying second hand guitars? Thankkssss
My best advice is to do a LOT of research and always walk away from a deal if something feels fishy.
Demo 4 went absolutely crazy - is that a cover or an original
All og!
I want a 24 scale guitar really bad, prefer to have an ibanez orm1 but they're going for waaay more than they're worth, but I desire something similiar
For decades I've read all the message board claims that Fender Japan guitars are superior to other guitars because of "craftsmanship" etc but then right out of the box the Vibrato needs a bunch of work. Or (not the case on this particular model) having to gut the electronics because of mini Alpha pots and lousy pickups. But definitely superior to MIM or MIA right? Right??!
I've had two MIJ Fenders. I can't speak fpr the vibratos (one was a tele and the other an HH Jag with an ST bridge), but in both cases it was always pickups with way too low output and not in a cool vintage way. I honestly think a duller, more neutral sound is what they go for. That and baller finishes.
I'd say that MIJ/CIJ quality is generally very good for the money, but the two ares that keep them from being great are usually hardware and electronics. And that's sad to me, because like I said in the video, the basic guitars are great!
Vinnie! :D
Weird, but the intro sounds like Billy Corgan’s guitar tone on Siamese Dream
I know you love the offsets themselves. But has anyone ever requested to add jag/jazz components to other bodies?
Like jazzmaster pups and electronics in a strat or a jag components in a tele?
Yep, I've done that before. IMO adding Jazzmaster pickups to a Jaguar or Jags to a Jazzmaster changes the sound a bit, but overall they still very much sound like themselves due to scale length. Still a cool mod.
@@Puisheen idk if it's dumb or crazy. I was thinking of fitting all the jazzmaster pickups and electronics into a strat form factor. Can it be done
@@jamesmarkham7489 I can and has been done! Totally possible.
Woah some crazy sounds in the third demo section! I love all the demos you do Mike, I’d like to see you make an album someday, even if it’s just full of instrumentals. They somehow have this vibe that manages to be between Johnny Marr and Surf Wax America
I plan to get back to it some day. Thank you!
@@Puisheen you’re very welcome! And that’s exciting news too!!
V Mod pickups are for people who hate offset Fenders sound.
Dat 15:42 impro... HolyF - freakin love it. 🤘
