It's interesting how Jaguars aren't really associated with too many great guitar players (in the traditional technical ability sense). They're great guitars that seem to get used as number one guitars a whole lot more in the indie scene (as well as the original surf thing of course), players like Thurston Moore, Johnny Marr and Kevin Shields to name a few. All absolute guitar heroes of mine but not in the traditional rock god sense. I've always thought that they shine with those slightly more alternative guitar styles, creating interesting textures, walls of sound and what not in conjunction with effects pedals. I think you're spot on about the confidence thing though and that's why Stratocasters are the daddy of Fenders. Always wanted a white Jag like yours Dave! Stupidly bought a Jazzmaster instead in my earlier playing days when I didn't know what I was doing and absolutely hated the thing. I've got a 68 Mustang in white with the red guard though that I've always thought of as the love child of a Strat and a Jag. Would love to see your Jaguar feature some more on the channel. Cool to see and hear the side by side comparisons.
The shorter scale of the jag has always put me off, I keep meaning to try a jazzmaster, but cheap ones are rare as hens teeth! For now I'll stick to my beloved strats! 😃
I've always found a Jaguar the ultimate guitar for those (like me) who don't want to be seen with a Rickenbacker (or can't afford it). I love the dark, roaring sound from this guitar! Not realy a guitar for solos, but more than perfect for strumming in the background of the band, people wondering where the h*ll this beautifull sound is coming from. And not to forget the cutting, sharp riffs from, for example, Johhny Marr.... Very nice of you to do a video about this (underastimated) beast!!
I just got a Johhny Marr Jaguar, and I love it more than my Strat. Everything feels like it's in the right place for me. I got the same thing with my Jazzmaster. I think the Start is still more versatile, but for sheer enjoyment of playing, the Jaguar nails it.
I bought a custom shop Jaguar this week and had a CS Stratocaster for years, as well as a Telecaster. I disagree almost completely about the differences. If you played your demos clean. It’s easier to hear the differences. And yes the Jaguar has less sustain and is more percussive. The scale length difference makes them even more drastically different than let’s say a Strat and a Tele not counting the tremolo. Interesting video that I enjoyed, but I disagree with your main premise.
Dave, I commented this on one of your previous videos, but this tops it, THIS is one of the greatest intro jams on the channel I’ve ever seen, there were moments it sounded like a church choir and a cello, simply amazing man, love it
What a simply amazing intro. I just love the intro pieces in your videos, so, so inspiring. I don't think that I have ever seen anyone using a bow with an electric guitar, inspired.
This video was perfect Dave, exactly what I needed. Been watching loads of videos about Jags today from big, sterile, high production value channels and none of them actually had anything much to say compared to you. Fantastic intro as well.
Dave - you may have cured me of my fear of the unknown, aka the controls of a Jaguar. The comparo with the Strat made it all make sense. Thanks man! Killer intro by the way.
Spooky... just being thinking about getting myself a Jag. Thanks as always for such a great video Dave. I feel naughty getting these intro jams for free!
Intro is basically The last of Us Soundtrack.
Well that bow technique was quite simply astounding to my ears . Bravo encore encore.

New classic vibe Jaguars come with a mustang bridge.

In my hands - not much difference. In Dave's hands - not much difference. The only difference is between me and Dave. Sigh.

Wow, best guitar intro I have ever seen on any channel, brilliant.
