Really? I didn't know that. For some reason I assumed they'd be bitter since they weren't darker green... I'm so weird, lol.. thank you! I'm going to go taste some inner stalks right now ;-)
Dill pickles add a zing ...the trick is to mash some of the potatoes so you get a mouthful of dressing in each bite, not just a chunk of potato with some dressing on it....
You did a fabulous job it looks l delicious. My way of the potatoes is the fast way put them in the microwave press the button that says potato they’re done no fussing no boiling. It’s the same no difference, the taste is the same. 🤗
While they are boiling if they boil over try butting a wooden spoon ACROSSED the top of your pan, the bubbles hit that wooden spoon and burst and keep your water from boiling over, it's great if you can't keep your eyes on your boiled potatoes!
I mash some of the potatoes to help blend in the mayo and seasonings....if I overcook the potatoes , then I don;t need to mash them as thy mash themselves....try it....
I’ve NEVER in my life seen anyone deliberately mash up the potatoes in potatoe salad! NEVER! If while mixing the salad and some of the potatoes just HAPPEN to get mashed that different. But to actually take a masher and mash em? NEVER!
I too was taught to cook potatoes in their jackets Then I add sweet and dill pickles, green onions both ends, pimento, black olives and paprika I guess we over due it a little bit that is the way Mother did and she always did 10#’s of potatoes Yes everyone took food home for the next day. That’s jut south Texas I guess. Hers looks good for small family dinners. I will try it
Potato salad is a family thing . I would eat this but my mother in law made the best I have ever tasted. But even my wife makes it different than her mother.
This was in my feed and I love potato salad only I cook my potatoes in their jackets to give it more flavor. I always make a big one and it takes forever. I love the way you go so fast and get it done and it looks delicious. I wish I had a little sharp knife like yours and I’ll try finding that peeler. I subscribed to your channel.
Potato salad disappears at a picnic !!! When I make a red potato salad , I leave the jackets on ...gives the salad color....and a nice color.!!!! Thanks for subscribing. I got the peeler on Amazon....
This is all come along real good to her she got out the damn potato masher she is making mashed potatoes salad like mashed potatoes LOL what is she smoking
in my opinion she should have just made mashed potatoes & mixed all her other ingredients ...it looked more like mashed potatoes to me .I prefer basic diced potatoes in my salad when I make it
Well, I've made it without mashing and find that the mayonnaise coating doesn't stick enough to the diced potatoes, so it tastes more like diced boiled potatoes with little flavoring, so I mash some which incorporates the flavoring more...just a preference....OR maybe not mash the potatoes but dice them extremely small, then the flavoring would be more prominent.
Potato's should completely washed before pealing them. Also they SHOULD NOT be cut and cubed before cooking because they absorb too much water, and, all the vitamins and minerals are leached into the cooking water, and then thrown down the kitchen sink drain.
The way you get a fine chop on the onion is new to me and looks easier than what I do, though I use scallions in my potato salad. I also use regular mustard but I'm going to try your method of ground mustard on hot potatoes. I also put about a 1/2-1 cup of vinegar into the boiling potato water depending on amount cooking. Love the pot you cooked potatoes in - where is it from? Just subbed!
I use those Kuhn Rikon peelers too.....they are great. You still using the Kuhn Rikon pull chopper?...I love that lil gizmo for dicing veggies, onions etc
This "mushed" potato salad is delicious...about 60 years ago, my mom used to take me shopping at "Vality" in Groton, Ct. where there was a small deli. I remember us ordering potato salad with mushed up potatoes every time we went there....I tried to copy what I remembered ...and this potato salad is SO good.....addictive......try it !!!
@@crazyjeancooking Yes, I will definitely give it a try but like you, I'm staying away from the stores for now - I'll just catch up on some of your wonderful cooking videos while I wait this thing out - stay safe
You did a good job with the potato salad. I like the fact that you cut up the food in your hand. I do too for so much of the food I make. My special ingredient is Salad Supreme and Morton's Season All seasoning salt because it's not too salty.
If haven't got a lot of money as you state: The bag was reusable and you rip it? You can save energie by putting a lid on the pan! Save energie by first get the water to a boil and than put the potatoes in. You also save time and your health, as you do not 'kill' al the health in your food!
The reusable bag did not have a "twist tie" but had "a taped tie" , which cannot be undone...or I would have saved it, as I save most of my plastic bags for my garage, or take them to the recycle bin at the dump. Putting a lid on potatoes causes them to over flow and make a big mess on the stove, starchy potato juice to clean...lots of extra work....getting the water to boil first does not save time or energy, as they have come back up to boil until tender. I sometimes save the potato water to make rolls, but usually the starchy water is thrown away because too many carbs, not much nutrition... thanks for the tips....
It is called a Peeler, and it peels more than potatoes actually, one end of the peeler usually has a small rounded out area on one side of the peeler...it is to cut out the eyes of the potato or bad spots.
Linda, mashing them a bit distributes the flavoring more evenly...try making it without mashing , then take a small bowl out and mash it a bit....see if you can tell the difference...
A LITTLE SECRET ......... AFTER YOU DRAIN THE POTATOES AND THEY ARE STILL HOT.... ' POUR SOME PICKLE JUICE ON THEM' and let the hot potatoes soak the juice up. makes a BIG differance .. can not spell. you got it. trust me. pickley

@@crazyjeancooking The sweet pickle juice just adds some flavor and is a good alternative to sugar which some people use.
yes...I could use it in place of the sugar...good point..
You did a fabulous job it looks l delicious. My way of the potatoes is the fast way put them in the microwave press the button that says potato they’re done no fussing no boiling. It’s the same no difference, the taste is the same. 🤗
great short cut....a cooked potato is a cooked potato !!!LOL
While they are boiling if they boil over try butting a wooden spoon ACROSSED the top of your pan, the bubbles hit that wooden spoon and burst and keep your water from boiling over, it's great if you can't keep your eyes on your boiled potatoes!
thanks for the tip !! I'll try that....does it work with pasta too?
I enjoyed the recipies thank you
you are welcome...
Yummy will try to make it thank you makes me hungry
you are welcome !!
Lovely potato salad!! I think I have all the ingredients for potato salad!! I like your technique, too! Mmmmm....I subscribed 😋😋😋❣💐❣
great!! try it !!! while we're all stuck sitting home
You lost me when you crushed the potatoes. I season with celery seed and celery salt.
I mash some of the potatoes to help blend in the mayo and seasonings....if I overcook the potatoes , then I don;t need to mash them as thy mash themselves....try it....
Ed 369 I season the same as you👍
Yes indeed. I like this way of making potato salad. I'll try it. Thanks so much.
great!!
I’ve NEVER in my life seen anyone deliberately mash up the potatoes in potatoe salad! NEVER! If while mixing the salad and some of the potatoes just HAPPEN to get mashed that different. But to actually take a masher and mash em? NEVER!
Am I the only one here for her. She is fun to watch.
LOL.....every one has their own way of doing things.....
Your videos are therapeutic.
LOL.....during this covid time, we all gotta have a laugh !!
I will try it
great !!
These potatoes are baking potatoes. Not the best for potato salad. Also, the eggs can come to a full boil and then just cover and turnoff heat.
these potatoes were on the mark-down table.....and eggs need to be cooked so they are not runny in the middle...
Potato salad is a family thing . I would eat this but my mother in law made the best I have ever tasted. But even my wife makes it different than her mother.
Thats amazing I enjoy watching and. I real want to cook nice stuf for myself to umm yumm
Great....I have over 200 videos on Crazyjeancooking ...easy, healthful and cheap!!
Ummm..watery mouth 👄 here from Philippines..thankyou so much ma’am for sharing this kind of salad..
you are very welcome!!!
Thank you Jean!
you are very welcome....making this today for our restaurant!!!
This is all come along real good to her she got out the damn potato masher she is making mashed potatoes salad like mashed potatoes LOL what is she smoking
yup....mashed potato salad...try it!!....half mashed, half chunks....
in my opinion she should have just made mashed potatoes & mixed all her other ingredients ...it looked more like mashed potatoes to me .I prefer basic diced potatoes in my salad when I make it
Well, I've made it without mashing and find that the mayonnaise coating doesn't stick enough to the diced potatoes, so it tastes more like diced boiled potatoes with little flavoring, so I mash some which incorporates the flavoring more...just a preference....OR maybe not mash the potatoes but dice them extremely small, then the flavoring would be more prominent.
Wow l like it
good !!
Just subbed!
thanks....scallions are great to use...!!!.....I purchased the pot at TJMAXX about 15 years ago...Berndes brand, German made....
You are good, crisp and perfect, no nonsense !
thanks
My Grandmother used to take left over mashed potatoes and make potato salad. Really good, she didn’t believe in wasting anything.
Folks of that generation didn't have as much as we do and they didn't waste anything....we should learn from them to conserve....
Mashed potato salad??? No thank you.
try it!!
Im like u, ill stick to my own " bangin potato salad... to each their own...
Boil with skins on much easier to peel
yes it is!!
Uii
PERFECT!!! THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!!! GOOD JOB
thanks.....
I use those Kuhn Rikon peelers too.....they are great. You still using the Kuhn Rikon pull chopper?...I love that lil gizmo for dicing veggies, onions etc
Yes, I purchased 6 of them and use them for my cooking classes....they are amazing!!! the kids love using them.....thanks !!!
Your directions are great plus you make it like I do, I need to try the garlic addition,
This "mushed" potato salad is delicious...about 60 years ago, my mom used to take me shopping at "Vality" in Groton, Ct. where there was a small deli. I remember us ordering potato salad with mushed up potatoes every time we went there....I tried to copy what I remembered ...and this potato salad is SO good.....addictive......try it !!!
Looks so good. I’m making this tonight for a work potluck tomorrow. Thanks for sharing
great ! let me know how you like it!!
Cannot imagine smashing it up to make goopy salad.
Good job on the potato salad the way it is supposed to be made. 😊
Thanks YOU !!!
First time to your channel - loved all your tips and tricks - that potato salad looks heavenly - wish I could taste it - cheers from Canada
Thanks !!! Make some , If you can find any potatoes left in the grocery stores !!! It is yummy !! We're just below you in New Hampshire...
@@crazyjeancooking Yes, I will definitely give it a try but like you, I'm staying away from the stores for now - I'll just catch up on some of your wonderful cooking videos while I wait this thing out - stay safe
thank you...stay healthy!!
Great recipe until mashed
Not a fan but to each their own

If you overcook the potatoes, they mash themsleves!!
lm really like your video and thank you l have more learn how to cook

Don’t like mushy ! Like chunks 👍

87bh???
I like it with chopped olives and carrots too.
You did a good job with the potato salad. I like the fact that you cut up the food in your hand. I do too for so much of the food I make. My special ingredient is Salad Supreme and Morton's Season All seasoning salt because it's not too salty.
I have never heard of Salad Supreme....I will look it up... thanks, jean
If haven't got a lot of money as you state:
The bag was reusable and you rip it?
@@crazyjeancooking mess? Nonsens! I cook them already so for 48 years !
I make my potato salad very similar to yours but use mayonnaise and Marzetties cole slaw dressing equal amounts, it’s very good!
thanks for the tip!! I'll look for Marzetties dressing
It is called a Peeler, and it peels more than potatoes actually, one end of the peeler usually has a small rounded out area on one side of the peeler...it is to cut out the eyes of the potato or bad spots.
My mom had an "old school" peeler as you described....didn't feel comfortable in my hand....
Please tell me where you got your pepper grinder.????
Amazon......OXO Good Grips Lewis Pepper Mill ....$11.99
I also think that Target has them
Thank you for sharing will be trying this
you're welcome!!!
What kind of potatoes you use is important. Baking potatoes will make mushy potatoes salad. You want nice firm white potatoes
I think I used russet baking potatoes......if I use red potatoes, I leave the skins on ....
Linda Farner or golden yellow.
Looks delicious!!!!
I ate some tonight .....along with some cole slaw.....ummm
May I, suggest a little cheyenne red pepper and you are good to go😊
love cayenne pepper !! adds a good "zip" !!
👍👍👍👍👌👌
thanks
Looked good till you mashed them.
Linda, mashing them a bit distributes the flavoring more evenly...try making it without mashing , then take a small bowl out and mash it a bit....see if you can tell the difference...
I like them mashed
thank....me too !!
Well... This is mashed potato salad. Glad you enjoy your cooking.
Yes, it is half mashed....makes the flavoring much better....
You lost me when you started adding mustard powder and mashing the heck out of them
just try it and see if you like it...same potatoes, just mush some....spreads out the flavoring...
Gloria ... who cares ? this is the WAY this lady makes it ! ~
Cindy Glass I care , mind your Business (negative thinker) I’m entitled to my opinion just saying
@@gloriastrehlau4445 meowwwww!....hiss
Lol to each his own 🤗
Like them either way
yes, either way!!
A LITTLE SECRET ......... AFTER YOU DRAIN THE POTATOES AND THEY ARE STILL HOT.... ' POUR SOME PICKLE JUICE ON THEM' and let the hot potatoes soak the juice up. makes a BIG differance .. can not spell. you got it. trust me. pickley
sweet or dill pickles?
Mashed potato salad. Never knew about it.
so much better, as the flavorings are mixed with the potatoes instead of on the outside of large chunks....
My husband makes it that way. Delicious 😋
yes.....
It's enough to gag a maggot...way to mushy. We do not like it.
have you you tried it????
