How To Make Pink Peppermint Bubbling Bath Soak
Isn’t this a fun spa craft? Pink Peppermint Bubbling Bath Soak! Bubbling Bath Soak is a scented bath salt that bubbles and fizzes when you sprinkle it in the bath. Like magic! Have you ever used a bath bomb? Same trick! In this version, we decided to dry the bath soak to make fizzing bath flakes.
Our Pink Peppermint Bubbling Bath Soak is made with two colors: pink and white. Then layered into the jar to get a peppermint stripe! We love it for a gift craft. It is so pretty!
Here’s the recipe if you want to copy it:
Recipe For Pink Peppermint Bubbling Bath Soak
    3 Tbsp. Epsom salts
    3 Tbsp. Baking soda
3 Tbsp. Kosher salt (or coarse sea salt)
2 tsp. Sour salt (also called Citric Acid)
    5 Drops peppermint essential oil
    10 Drops pink soap colorant
To Label The Bottle And Dress It Up You’ll Need:
Printed Out Label (available on RunningWithSisters.com)
    Clear packing tape
    Double-stick tape
    1 Yard pink satin ribbon
1 Diamond and pearl shank button
    Hot glue and glue gun
    Scissors
    You Will Also Need:
    2 Mixing bowls
    Spoon
    Spatula
    Cookie Sheet
    Here’s What To Do
    1. Wash the jar and remove the label. Remove the sell-by date with a nail polish remover pad. Let the bottle dry completely.
    2. Mix together 3 tablespoons Epsom salts, 3 tablespoons baking soda, and 3 tablespoons kosher salt or coarse sea salt. Add 2 teaspoons of citric acid or sour salt. Add 5 drops of peppermint essential oil to the mixture. This will be your white layer.
    3. Repeat step 2 to make a second batch and add to it 10 drops of pink soap colorant. Because the soap colorant has water in it, it will fizz a little when you ad it to the mix. And unless you dry the mixture, it will clump.
    4. To dry the pink mixture, spread it out on a cookie sheet and bake it in a 200 degree F oven for 15 minutes. Check to be sure it is dry. Scrap the flakes off the pan with a spatula. (Alternatively, you can air dry the mixture overnight.)
    5. Spoon a layer of pink bath flakes into the jar, then spoon in a layer of white. Repeat to fill the jar.
    5. To label the jar, print out the label and cut it out. Laminate the label by covering the back and front with packing tape. Cut the label out again. Use double-stick tape to attach the label to the jar lid.
    6. Tie the pink ribbon around the neck of the jar. Glue the pretty button onto the center of the bow using hot glue.
Remember if you run into any questions while you’re making your Pink Peppermint Bubbling Bath Soak, you can post them in the comments. We’ll reply. We’re here to help!

I found adding everything but the citric acid and mixing makes it easier to mix the color in and doesnt waste any fizz. Once mixed well then add the acid and mix thoroughly.

I would recommend adding a small amount of polysorbate 20 or 80 to help the oils and colourants disperse into the water. This also keeps the salt from fizzing and being activated. Very pretty end result.

OMGoodness… I paused the video and did it with you. I used lemon verbena and sunset orange. It smells so awesome and the color is just perfect. When you said put it in the over to dry, I said wait I am gonna put it in my dehydrator. I can’t stop smelling my hands and my house smell like I’ve been cutting lemons. My roll up trays are fine after washing, no lingering smell or taste, ( yes I licked it 😛😂).

Could I add oils and butters to this recipe? I think melted coconut oil or shea butter would be so soothing.

    • @TheONeilSisters
      @TheONeilSisters  7 лет назад +3

Great question Gabrielle! The recipe is made with dry ingredients to keep the fizzy stuff (the baking soda and citric acid) from starting to fizz. (It fizzes a little when you add the essential oil and color, but then you let it dry out again.) If you added other liquids it would activate the fizzing while you are mixing it up. So it works better to keep these ingredients dry. Then when it hits the tub water you get the fizzing effect. Hope that makes sense. We have lots of other spa recipes on our blog RunningWithSisters.com including some that use oils and butters. Maybe you can find something there! Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty
