20+ years on and I still cry every time Laguna walks toward Raine's grave with that music playing. Loved your playthrough of VII, loved your playthrough of VIII, and I'm sure I'll love your playthrough of IX!

Basically what happened is that Squall got lost in time and Rinoa brought him back to the present because she kept him in her memories.
Rinoa and Squall's love got them through time to their meeting place. That is why the music got 'happy' and the sun came out as Rinoa cradled Squall in her arms. Some think he died at end of disc one which is silly, and others think he died at the end and Rinoa 'imagines' him; but that makes no sense with the tone. We'd have seen a mourning scene, I think, and probably even a grave. Happy ending. YAY!
"In late 2017, series developer Yoshinori Kitase was interviewed by Kotaku about several of the myths surrounding the series. Regarding Squall [death in disk 1], Kitase said "No, that is not true...I think he was actually stabbed around the shoulder area, so he was not dead. But that is a very interesting idea, so if we ever do make a remake of Final Fantasy VIII, I might go along with that story in mind."
so not 100% silly.
Now that you've beat the game, it's safe to say this spoiler: Laguna and Raine are very strongly hinted as Squall's parents throughout the game. It's beautiful that the unfulfilled romance of Laguna and Julia is fulfilled, with Squall and Rinoa.
They are. Such a great story. I loved every character in this game.
And Elone is Squalls step sister. That is why her Junction ability worked on him and Laguna. She could only use it on people she knew or had some familiarity to. I love the fact that Rinoa is the Daughter of Julie and that general. Julie and Laguna had quite the serious connection and were in love but laguna got captured and Julie moved on. Rinoa and Squalls relationship mirrors the one that Laguna could have had with Julie. I think its a powerful story. Its a shame that many people dont realize just how deep the emotions run in this game.
And Cid & Edea are Seifers and Quistis parents.

To explain the ending
After Squall got lost in time he couldn't remember anything anymore
Rinoa went to the place they promised to meet but he wasn't there ....So she sent a feather to him
After seeing the feather he remembered her but he couldn't remember her face
So he tried to picture events of his life with Rinoa so that he cant remember her face
But since he still couldn't remember her face his brain thought she must have died in space and an so immage of her dying in space was produced in his brain
From the shock of that he fainted....
Some would say he died from the shock and that it was Rinoa revived him since she is a sorceress now..
Anyway at the and they are together ❤
So at the end the love story of Laguna and Julia was finally realized by their children ( Squall and Rinoa)
All the other theories about Rinoa =Ultimacia or that Squall died in the end of disc 1 have been denied by the creators themself
Only Squall being dead was denied. The creators never spoke about Ultimicia being Rinoa even once. Please stop spreading your thoughts as facts when they are not.

Congratulations on beating this epic. These characters will stay with you for a long time. Same with the musical score. So many beautiful arrangements. Square Enix has mentioned wanting to remake this game on several occasions. They said it won't happen any time soon but that it will most likely happen. Possibly during the PS6 generation which would look absolutely incredible.

Was waiting for the end! It's a major mind and emotional trip, especially for a first-time player. But I'm glad you enjoyed it. FFVIII is my personal fave.
For me so far ff8 has the best love story because like Squall I'm cold on the outside I don't need anyone while on the inside I want someone to love me like Rinoa loves Squall that's how I am but like him I say that I don't need anyone when in fact I need someone to break my cocoon but even though I'm the romantic type I cry at sad scenes I really feel like Squall now and I didn't regret watching how you play and of course I found your channel but in character I am Squall while I am disguised as Rinoa❤
First time watching you react to Raine and Laguna scenes and I was thinking "well, i didn't expect that reaction". Then i heard the reason, watch it again and I got teary eyes. I get the thinking of "I want to be happy for them but i know she died" and in just seconds the confirmation really hits.
Congrats on finishing the game. That angelo attack on form 4 ultimecia made me smile lol. and yeah, what rinoa did is pretty much how people in the comments explained it: she found him lost in the compressed time expanse and revived him with angel wing + brought them both physically back to their promised meeting place on the fields near Edea's house.
I think it's interesting that Squall wasn't able to remember the promise right away. I think this is because of his unfamiliarity with the whole concept of a person existing in other people's minds and how that affirms that we exist outside of ourselves, because he was a loner and pointedly independent for most of his life. So he was the most likely out of the group to get lost in a time warp, being the one with the weakest "social muscles" lol

Congratulations! That was an intense final battle! I teared up while smiling at the entire ending sequence (which I've watched many times out of context over the years) and it hit different recognizing secondary characters and knowing more back stories thanks to watching you play! pretty sure this is how and when Sqaull realizes he loves Rinoa when he was alone and lost; his mind did some weird stuff that made him imagine her death/ or her being forgotten. hence the tears I think. 1:22:39

Oh shit, I'm old as dirt. I played this game when it came out,so many years ago and I have replayed it numerous times over the years. It really holds a special place in my heart. ❤
I thought many people thinks that when rinoa cried and all the flowers appear and those sunlight, they might think its cheesy or corny but its a symbolism of hope that Rinoa and squall was.transported back to.promised place when they were stuck in that dark dimension.
A lot of people dislike this game for the magic and junction system, saying it's too exploitable... but I just thought it was super creative. I love how you can find a new use for some magic or items by junctioning it somewhere new, and how the GF abilities can really change your whole strategy and how you junction things. You have the flexibility to do whatever you want with your characters! I'm not a fan of the levelling thing like you said, but overall this is my absolute favorite Final Fantasy, and I'm glad you enjoyed it even if it's not your favorite.
As for what was happening when Rinoa was all fuzzy, is Squall couldn't remember her. He was frantically searching his memory for her and couldn't remember her because he was lost in time. But Rinoa was able to find him! It's very abstract, but it's very beautiful. I think it's by far the most artistic Final Fantasy game, and I think that's what appeals to me. :)
The people who complain about it exploitable are usually people who have played it a dozen times (clearly they enjoy the game) or follow walkthroughs online or the guide that was released. Nobody who goes through this game the first time actually blind, get a perfect playthrough. Well, I shouldn't say nobody sicne that is an absolute. I am sure a handful of people kicked ass, and they can have their bragging rights. L0L
Thanks dschneider1, FF8 is definitely my all time favourite as well. Now that you explain the fuzzy part image of Rinoa, I understood it now. The whole game experience is just amazing that no other game can do
All you needed was to cast aura on Quistis, use her limit break Mighty Guard and then keep using limit breaks on Ultimecia
Yeah this ending, with the music and these scenes, still makes me so teary eyed even after all those years... Great job on completing FF8 :') It was my first FF game, so it really hits me watching it all over... FF9 is a lovely game too, looking forward to it and more KH to come!
Pretty funny that after a 1+ hour final battle it was Rinoa doing 595 damage that ended it for you. Congratulations! You earned that victory. Much less confusing ending than 7, if you ask me, although it does go through some twists.
Have you fight the alternative boss, OMEGA WEAPON, at ultimacia's castle yet? Give it a shot.
I’ll give you props for playing the endgame without lots of physical damage, limit breaks, and lionheart(squalls best weapon). It’s tougher the way you did and I say I’m impressed you pushed through. Great job 👍🏻

My favourite game of all time. I wish Square could still make FF games like this. I know there are issues with the gameplay mechanics, but in terms of the story and the characters it's nigh on perfect. The character designs are fantastic and the music is gorgeous throughout. It's a fantastic game, even now, nearly 25 years later.
Reactions like this just prove that they got the beats absolutely spot on with the ending because near enough everyone reacts in the same way; they laugh, they cry and they're satisfied. If only every game should be so lucky to get it so right!

@@MagiKat_Gaming Haha Rinoa dealing the final blow was fantastic 😅 Yeah this theory has apparently been disproven by some devs or writers but there's a lot of things that hint to it... Like Rinoa telling Squall in the Ragnarok that she wished time would stop to be with him forever because she fears the future, that's exactly what Ultimecia wanted to do, Time Compression... Her summoning Griever, Squall's ring Lion thingy, and so on... Maybe she's Rinoa from a timeline where she lost Squall (her "knight") and as so became evil xP
Congrats on completing 👍 I never played before and used GF as much as u did so it was kind of cool seeing a different style of playthrough. There's so much u didn't touch on but I'm sure you'll play around with next time. Your playthrough inspired me to download and play again myself. This is my favourite FF even though it has its flaws. The music to me is the best, I have a Sporify playlist which I just listen to whenever I need to do house chores 😁 nice work, I look forward to the next ones!! 👍👍
Congratulations ! For someone going against it totally blind, you did really well against those Final Bosses.
Now that you have made it, here is a tip for the next time you get to play it :
Whenever there is a character turn, but you want it to play after another one, use the Menu button , you can then zap to the next character ready to perform an action, and then go back to the original one.
If ever you're low on HP and want to use a limit break, then Menu again is your friend, if you don't get the option for the limit, do Menu button even and especially if there is no other character turn waiting, to get an other chance to have it whithout having to "sacrifice" a turn with a simple attack.

I'm surprised you didn't spam limit break and Cerberus since you prefer using magic. Cerberus would have cast double and triple on to you're team.

Glad you loved the game. IX to me is just a "you've to experience it" kinda game, but VIII is surprisingly good (considering all the hate it gets, I really enjoyed it) and it's easily in my top 3 fav FFs

Those PS1-FF-Games to this day are the peak of RPGs in my eyes, so much character, thougtful world building and just exciting adventures!

She casts magic and GF. I used to cast haste and aura and use my limit breaks. But I guess she doesn't have the strongest ones here, so maybe it makes sense....
Yet still, when you use Eden, hold select and push □ ! Make use of its overly long animation! 😉

As someone who has beat the piss out of this game it was fun to watch a newbie haha better than my first playthrough for sure! my first couple playthroughs if I'm being real honest. haha

FFX was my first FF and because of that it will always have a special place in my heart. But objectively I would say FFVII because that was such a masterpiece in so many ways. I can’t wait to play the remake 😊
