I was fortunate enough to not get into the FIFA series, one of the fondest memories I have as a kid was playing command and conquer with my grandad. EA bought up Westwood Studios and trashed the studio before ruining the series. I haven't bought an EA title since.

TheMixEmperor I agree. I am the same age as well. Been playing since Qbert on Atari and Mario Nes. I knew EA was sketchy way back before 06 they used to have exclusive rights to James Bond as well. IDK How people can defend this stuff lol. I keep thinking it is an age thing or people who can just afford to just waste money. I just find it weird people are ok with spending money on things in game we got for free from it predecessors. I understand games need to make money but if your spending 50+ million on a budget with 300 employees and your game is still shallow as hell that is questionable and lazy. I mean EA can't even give people the one mode they want . They must be saving it for their last game and if they are, man EA is truly milking their fan base lol. Anywho hope everyone is enjoying their holiday.

You should look at EA's Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes mobile game. It has packs $40 to $100 and barely give you much to make any impact for you in game. You have to spend $1000s to make any difference. They use to call the rich players whales, now they called Krakkens lol. EA caters to the really rich now, so if you spends tons you get to pay to win. Is that fair? Look into SWGoH and you will see the ultimate corruption of EA.

So I ignore playing a cool IP because it’s all tied around either extreme time and scheduling or money in order to advance.

Spending large amounts of money =/= Rich
Part of the problem, if not the KEY problem, is that these systems prey on the human psyche and that the people paying for these things have bigger problems.
Because odds are, the people spending $1000s of dollars, don't have that kind of money to spend.

Outside of the US, Japanese game company Gungho Entertainment started selling what is effectively loot boxes in the MMO 'Ragnarok Online' directly to players as early as March 2006. They were called 'ラグくじ', or Ragnarok Lottery, and each box opened would give the player a random item in-game, including a chance at select super rare items. You could buy one for 300 yen, or 11 for 3000 yen. I haven't looked into it, but I feel it may be the first instance of direct loot box sales. Gungho later went on to be a mobile gaming juggernaut with their gatcha games, but 2006 was a year before android was even announced.

I don’t know what to say, this is THE video. I hope this trends. This is everything. The four factors I am angry at is pay-to-win, randomness, closed economic statistics(non tradable), and the pay wall of 60-80 dollars for a game and then grinding within that. This video explains everything or at least I inferred a lot from this video. The reason warframe and economies/games like it are well accepted is because it covers everything the way we want it. Open economy, get what you pay for,free-to-play, and the pay-to-win feature is fair and it is’t competitive like battlefront 2 or games like it. I came here for the warframe community but I stayed because you are amazing haha sorry for the long comment.

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 6 лет назад

Spending less on development is not wrong. It's just basic business. How can you get more for less?
If a company forgets this then they will go bankrupt soon. The only ones that can do this are those with massive parent companies that watch over them and keep them secure.
For example while Nintendo sometimes delays game releases to polish them note that this is almost exclusively their system sellers and most important franchises. They release those very high quality games to sell their system and get people into their brand to sell them lower quality products they can actually profit from. I think it's unlikely Mario Odyssey will ever make back it's investment but Nintendo didn't make Odyssey to make a profit. It made it to sell the Switch.

I applaud that you didn't jump on the bandwagon of throwing fingers around, blaming and cursing like many people are. If there is one thing I dislike as much as exploitation by companies/people is the "victims", who just regurgitate the same complaints and try and persuade people to think like them using emotional triggers, thereby not giving them the space to figure out what they believe is true. You give the viewer the opportunity to really see the depth of exploitation and let the viewer decide for themselves if they agree or not. I enjoyed and subscribed. I saw your review on Anthem - I just hope EA, truly see the light with this one.

Blizzard aren’t bad, but their “owners” are. They are the good division of devs and producers that really care about their games.
There is nothing wrong with overwatch loot boxes other than the fact that events end and lock times for a whole year. If they didn’t, it would be fair. Their other games rely on subscription or actual product purchases, not micro transactions. Where as activision rely on gaming addictions like cod. They sell the same game and get away with it. Id rather pay a subscription or just get a £30 dlc every year from them rather than a new game. With the exact same content just with a different skin.
The real problem in the industry is ea and Microsoft. (And sony but they are irrelevant). Ea try to monopolise everything, and Microsoft want to own a share of everything.
Microsoft are specially retarded as they think they have pc exclusives... that are also on console.... and that they are the only place to get pc exclusives..... even though steam has 7k exclusive games.....

AnizeJGLover Diablo auction house was a shit show that proved blizz couldn't keep their greed under control. While they aren't as consistently bad and they put systems in place to make you feel better about their microtransactions.
Overwatch still has content that could easily be put into the game for free behind either an insanely long grind or a randomized pay wall. If you think it's ok because they are "only cosmetic" then they've got you into the position they want because you are justifying locking content behind pay walls that could easily be free to all players. "But they need that money to continue putting out free updates", yeah tell that to their 30 million plus sales at 40$, which was originally 60$.
Don't get me wrong I love blizzard games but they're just as greedy as many other big name devs and publishers

Either a $60 game with very few or no micro transactions, or a free game with rather present micro transactions like Warframe and Paragon, however in Warframe and Paragon you can specify what you purchase, no roll of the dice, plus you can still earn the micro transaction currencies in both those games without even spending money. These games with their (necessity) Loot boxes just suck the life out of the industry as very clearly seen in the quoted "FIFA Ultimate Team makes us millions every year, where is this games version of that?" When they completely changed battlepacks from what they were in BF4 to making them loot boxes in BF1 I was livid, having played Battlefield for so long and really liking how battlepacks were introduced in BF4, they were loot boxes but you EARNED THEM, you weren't even allowed to buy them as far as I know, and you could get different kinds of battlepacks, like ones for specific guns that would drop random attachments for one weapon. I'd rather hire a hitman to put me down before I spend a penny on EA's anti-fun bullshit loot boxes

You can't earn plat in warframe at all, someone has to buy the platnum, which is then traded with another player. However!!!!, everything in the game is obtainable through gameplay with the exception of cosmetics, which is what is great about this game.

If you're a gamer, a parent or both, this should be very important to you.
The mentality of a gaming company already selling you a product and then making things like loot boxes purchasable with real currency integral to the gaming progress changes everything, erodes the very nature of a game that considers the players and the quality of the game itself, and this MUST be regulated... Loot boxes and the thinking that creates them is precisely what is destroying long loved companies like Blizzard, and betraying their loyal fanbase who grew up with these games and identify deeply with them to the point of being coldly exploited in these changes of priority from games by gamers to games by lawyers, marketers, corrupt relationships between publishers and influencers more interested in kickbacks and favors than the truth or the benefit of the game and its playerbase.
This is huge, and the only way for quality to come back to gaming and for artists, designers, creative people to be taken care of and to come back to the industry... this must be resolved.
You can also think of this as a profound microcosm that can be related to the govt / corporation relationship. Like I said, this is not just gaming, this is everything. This is huge.

This is simply the best researched and informative video about this EA debacle I’ve yet seen. It does well to highlight EA’s greed and backs it up with quantifiable numbers. Though I also somewhat hold FIFA consumers accountable for basically enabling this to happen, proving that the Wilson Loot box is a viable source of revenue to the detriment of quality games and more importantly quality game developers houses.

    1. You've received a new subscriber, AND one who will be encourageing others to follow your channel.
    2. You knocked it out of the park on the origins of how this all truly began, and am glad that other people out there realize this! Kudos, for enlightening them to it.
    3. I can't remember what exact year it was of Madden. But, there was one year in particular (circa 2008-2012?) in which they literally had Snickers, Coca-Cola, and I think even McDonald's commercials in the middle of the game. Now, it wasn't like on RUclips where it would stop the game and you'd have to sit through a commercial. Obviously logos were plastered all over the field and fences; but, what I'm talking about is during plays it would literally say things like "Snickers it satisfies" and other things of that nature. That was the last Madden game I played up until I think 2016 and I really haven't moved past it. Also, I noticed that what I just spoke of with the over-the-top advertisements, were cut completely from the follow-ups and I've never heard a word about it since. I don't know if it's been shuffled under the rug or what; but, if you did your top notch research as did hete. I'm sure you can find the one I'm speaking of. It was like a free to play mobile game, after paying $60.
    4. What you said about Blizzard is spot-on, I don't hate cosmetic upgrades / loot boxes near as much as the other stuff...but we really do need to speak with our wallets! Blizzard just happened to be in the crosshairs at the time a majority of people started noticing that there was something amiss. Blizzard's real problem, is that the second their sales drop, they start virtue signaling and turn a character in their game homosexual. I mean, they literally rewrote their own lore to make Soldier 76 gay. the sexual identity of their characters literally has no bearing on the game or the game play, and it was just shoehorn in there for no reason.
    5. Last but not least, in a bit of a reiteration (to those who are actually still reading this) we must speak with our wallets! No more pre-orders, no more season passes,, and support the companies that actually appreciate their customers and don't treat us like a whole bunch of sheep. I know a company's main point is to make money, But, EA is what happens when people who don't care about games and just see profit in them, get a hold of IPs. They ruin them, pander to the social justice crowd, and then think that single player games are a dying genre. They could not be more wrong!
    6. I was born in 1980, I have a large backlog of games and patience goes a long way, especially if you stay one iteration behind everything. Let everyone else pay the full price and eventually you'll get it at half, or even free via game pass or Xbox games with gold for instance. Not to mention Steam has sales out the wazoo.
    7. I'm not trying to hate on the young, but it seems like these tactics are geared exactly towards them; because, they don't understand the value of the dollar. Normally, they're not the ones actually paying for it, so they don't seem to understand how terrible loot boxes and DLC horse armor are!
    8. I remember when DVD and Blu-ray first came out, and they tried director's cut and all that other garbage, and people didn't fall for it for long.
    9. Comics and video games were the last bastion to fall to social justice warriors, propaganda, and the horror known as microtransactions (I say that with comics because, I wouldn't be surprised if they began selling alternate ending to graphic novels for a few extra bucks soon).
    10. If it takes another gaming crash to change the way they conduct business, I'm fine with it. I have plenty of games to keep me entertained until then. And I don't have to pay an extra $5 to get a queen with my chess set.
