He ran V8 Supercars which are very similar to the Next Gen Car compared to guys who ran F1. Obviously, he is talented or he would not have won his first start and finished top 15 in every start he has had.
hes come to play, for sure, the roadcourse style racing is what he would seem to have lots of experiance in doing, he has done several forms of racing its stated, including sprints, that said lets see how he does season long, hope he dont make too big a fool out of all the usual drivers, people already say us drivers aren't as good as europe or other parts of the world, though I saw with my own eyes each form of racing has its own skills case and point at bc 39 in 2022 they put an indycar driver in a midget and let him turn laps around the 1/4 mile dirt track on turn three of the brickyard, he had difficulty as it was not his usual wheelhouse, but was a good sport about it and eventually got a bit of the hang of sliding and throttling on the slick dirt

Supercars (Bathurst aside) normally only have one or two stops, so much less opportunity to refuel and spread the additional fuel time cost over. We also often run sprint races, which are done without pit stops and so less fuel in the car at the start means a lighter & faster car.
As kiwis we love driving and racing and fuken sport in general. When its on its on and after we will have beer or blunt with ya. Shane is a beast in all forms of 4 wheel racing
Aussie v8 legend Dick Johnson came to race Nascar late 80s, Marcos Ambrose came in 2006 and won several nascar races before returning to Australia and now SVG making a name for himself winning the Chicago cup street race and now embarking on his own nascar journey. SVG! SVG! SVG! Don't forget he race the 24 Hours of Daytona before.
Ambrose never won on an oval though and if you can't do in NASCAR, you can't win a championship. He needs to have more of Tony Stewart like turn around from Indycar. Tony is the only driver in the "modern" era that's had any real success after changing series. I hope he does well, but it's gonna be super tough in the Cup series outside of the road/street courses. Even those will get tougher ast he Cup guys just keep getting better and better at those types of tracks.
The way he drove in Daytona and again this week in Atlanta shows that he's got speed and excellent racing judgment. He's going to be really good IMO, better than Ambrose.
Ambrose never really mastered the ovals but was great on the road courses and still managed to have a decent NASCAR career...It is literally only a matter of time before SVG masters the science of racing ovals and we already know what he can do on a NASCAR road course (Chicago)...he will be in the Cup series in no time and consistently running Top 5/Top 10.

Did you see all the skill that was involved when he overtook the cars at the front that either ran out of gas or the ones he passed when they pitted for gas. Did he or anyone else actually pass anyone else that was running in the 15. It was almost as bad as F1 out there single file follow the leader.

SVG is a more talented racer than half of the current cup drivers out there. I know he’s having a good time, but he definitely belongs in the top series.
SVG loves racing full stop…. You throw wheels and an engine on a bathtub and he will not only race it, he will win too. Once he gets his head around oval tracks and the craft required to be successful, not a lot will stop him other than getting caught up in someone else’s mistakes.

SVG is a big talent, but I think he needs to earn his stripes before he jumps into a Cup Car. He was not afraid to use the bumper in $upercars, & was allowed to get away with it, & I don't think he'll get that leeway in the main game.
Once he gets used to it he will do well. money isn’t a thing that drivers chase down under they can live quite comfortably without trillions of dollars it’s more about racing we love it down here and plus SVG is worth plenty in 2 countries and maybe even 3

[We were and are Tony Stewart fans] They told Ambrose just needs to gain confidence on Ovals.*[My whole point of the story..."confidence"] Well, inconclusion...when my son and I saw photos of the winner circle...those 2 guys were in the photo next to Ambrose. 100%, he kicks all the regular's assess all the time. Unless you're a great road racer, you can't drive, period. Oval drivers just dont cut it anymore. Road course racing is a must these days, and not just in a stock car, you got to be a karting champion, and work your way up.

Finished 3rd today, proved he can run in draft AND manage fuel.
In Supercars you NEED to conserve fuel from lap one until the end.
Trust me the style of racing he comes from there's a *lot* more for the driver to do in the car. Multitasking won't be something SVG struggles with.

Back in the day down in Watkins Glen rained delayed Marcus Ambrose win, I remember my son and I was able to get a room at "The Glen" motel that Sunday night to watch race on Monday. Sunday night we were down in the basement/pool level bar " shooting the shit " with Ford rep. and a Ford Engineer [ we thought they were bs-ing us about who they were.] They predicted Ambrose win and we were giving them shit. [We were and are Tony Stewart fans] They told Ambrose just needs to gain confidence on Ovals.*[My whole point of the story..."confidence"] Well, inconclusion...when my son and I saw photos of the winner circle...those 2 guys were in the photo next to Ambrose. LOL True story!

100%, he kicks all the regular's assess all the time. Unless you're a great road racer, you can't drive, period. Oval drivers just dont cut it anymore. Road course racing is a must these days, and not just in a stock car, you got to be a karting champion, and work your way up.

One NDF and one third place finish. The guy can drive but it’s a bit too soon for me to get excited.
