- Presenting Space Patrol 2100 Episode 1 “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…Martians”. The year is 2100. Earth, Mars and Venus have formed the United Galactic Organization to maintain peace throughout the galaxy. At Jupiter Scientific Headquarters, two Martians arrive hell bent on making an illegal fortune by hunting the indigenous population of wild Loomies. When Central Control on Earth loses contact with Jupiter, Colonel Raeburn orders Captain Larry Dart to investigate. Dart and his diverse crew, Husky, a Martian, and Slim, a Venusian, blastoff in their Galasphere spaceship and land on Jupiter. Dart & Husky journey to Scientific HQ and find a terrified Jovian who says the Martians killed all the scientists and are now hunting the Loomies for their fur-covered skins. Will our heroes be able to stop the slaughter? The original Space Patrol is a British science-fiction television series written and produced by Roberta Leigh, featuring marionettes. It was produced in 1962 and the 39 episodes were broadcast from 1963 to 1968. Voices & sound effects are from the original TV broadcast. There are content alterations and additions. The original episode is entitled “Swamps of Jupiter”.

Sorry that you're leaving so many XL5s undone but Space Patrol has been a favorite for a long time. Great job. You have a knack for touching something in us with these recreations. Gives me a good feeling at night, like when life was less complicated. Maybe it's just me, longing for a simpler time. Thanks very much. Eager for your version of The Wandering Asteroid.

Like Fireball, it gives hope for the future, a better future, and that's a feeling that's in short supply now. In the preproduction stage presently with hope I can get the next Space Patrol out by July 2023 (perhaps even sooner if all goes well).

I was eagerly awaiting your next edition of Fireball XL5 so what a surprise that you have started on Space Patrol, but a very pleasant surprise. I can just about remember this show from my childhood and recently watched some original episodes on RUclips. Dare I say that your version of Marla is even hotter than the original!! Great job and thank you to everyone there. I look forward to more of these.

She's alien but supposed to be beautiful and that was difficult to get right. Green skin made her look like a witch, blue skin like a zombie, finally I decided yellowish orange made her look different enough but attractive. It took me 13 weeks to make this episode as I had to create sets and characters. Hopefully the next episode will be released around July 2023. You’ve done it again! Absolutely brilliant. I was just a small boy when Space Patrol was on TV but I was absolutely hooked at the time. I was fascinated by the spaceship and, when shown a gyroscope, I immediately thought that was it. Inspired by many of these early sci-if programmes, I went on to be a communications engineer and still look back fondly. Great job - why aren’t you on TV?? Well done - attention to detail is great.

When I first watched Space Patrol. My first thought was that Fireball XL5 was over, and I was looking forward to seeing another episode for Halloween. Do you think it could still happen? Can you have both Space Patrol and Fireball XL5? This episode is really good too.
Trudy, thank you so much for watching and posting a comment. I’m glad you liked it. I understand your disappointment about Fireball XL5 especially a longtime viewer like yourself. The switch to Space Patrol 2100 is mostly a result of RUclips notifying me back in December 2022 that my videos were now eligible for monetization. Fireball XL5 is copyrighted by ITV and The Shout Factory on RUclips. They allow my videos to air but keep all revenue generated from advertisements. Once I became eligible for monetization, I had always hoped ITV and The Shout Factory might share revenue (which is an option of the copyright holder) but that was not to be the case. They own the copyright so I respect this and feel honored that they give permission for my XL5 videos to stay on RUclips.
Unfortunately, the time and effort in creating new XL5 episodes lost all incentive. I hope you can understand this. I will use everything I learned from Fireball XL5 to try and make Space Patrol 2100 as good as I can make it. If I revisit Fireball in the future, it might be to redo some of the earlier episodes I did with updated characters, animation and lighting.

I used to have this episode on an old scratched super8 cine film! wonderful to see it brought up to date - well done! - I hope you haven't abandoned Fireball altogether, there are some great episodes left that deserve your attention.

It was like Fireball but yet so different. It took me about 13 weeks to do this episode as I had to create sets and characters. Hopefully the next one will take half that time (a June or July 2023 timeframe, fingers crossed). The title will be "Armageddon II: Electric Boogaloo" based on the original episode "The Wandering Asteroid." As far as Fireball XL5 I agree there are many great episodes left but copyright claims (no ad revenue sharing) reduce the incentive of the time and effort. It's 4:00 in the morning here (Adelaide, South Australia) & I woke up after falling asleep watching the footy to see one of my favourite marionette TV shows has been given the HarborsidePress treatment. And what a great job you have done! (Especially with Marla. She's even hotter than the XL5's Venus!)

She went through many skin variations (green, blue, gray before I chose the flesh of a nectarine.) The first I saw Space Patrol was on Amazon Prime back in November 2021. Definitely the Sci-Fi of the day. They certainly had a whole different understanding of the Jupiter that we know now. A gas giant that didn't become a star, or something to that effect. And the gravity. Crushing. Life? Doubtful. On one of Jupiter's moons? Maybe. All in good fun though. I never knew of this program. Never saw the original. Same with Captain Scarlet. Wasn''t broadcast to my neighbourhood. So this is new to me. And I must say it's a treat. Speaking of treats. MARLA. Holy smoke! Marla, Marla, Marla, good golly gosh! VENUS. MARLA. Don't make me choose.
Again thanks for watching and posting. I too had never heard of the original Space Patrol (Planet Patrol) and happened upon it on Amazon Prime back in November 2021. I thought wow this is a series that can be reanimated. I did watch Captain Scarlet as a child and it was one of my favorites along with Stingray. Now the Marla or Venus question? I say Venus but she'd have to find a babysitter for Zoonie.

I sort of cut my teeth (gained experience) animating Fireball XL5 and was eager to do something different. I happened upon the original Space Patrol on Amazon Prime back in November 2021. I had never heard of the show as a child but as I watched I felt (though the same in concept: space adventure) how uniquely different it was from Fireball XL5. It embraced more of the science (oxygen helmets instead of oxygen pills, and deep freeze cryogenic units to deal with the distance of space travel.) I do hope viewers will like this as much as Fireball.

Husky, Slim & Marla all went through skin color variations (blue, green, purple, pink, gray). I finally decided on green for Husky (a variation of little green men from Mars) and the yellowish/orange for Slim and Marla. If you enjoyed it please share with friends. Thanks.
Oh Yes brilliant, Space Patrol deserves the Harbourside treatment, Larry Dart and his crew with Galasphere 347, the science underpinning the series was spot on as in Cryogenic freezer for the crew to illustrate real world timescales for space travel between the planets of the solar system. So Gamma rays on Yobba Ray on Ready To Lift.😃 BTW the Galasphere looks awesome. You have done Larry Dart justice, and marla like venis in XL5 looks suitably a babe. Hope you do some more of these this series deserves some love, have the DVD box set of the original.

The uniforms are certainly rather anatomically correct, I expect the original actor who played Larry Dart would be amused, Dick Vosburgh.

my guess was slightly correct. the martians look like hulked dwarves while the venusians resemble elves with almost bee gees voices. no offense to barry gibb and his departed and still greatly missed brothers.

Certainly excellent...I have watched some of the original " space patrol " I think it was called " Planet patrol " in the US? I had forgotton this programme until a few years ago. I was about 4 years old when this aired on UK TV...those bloody robots terrified me.....The weird electronic sound were created by a guy named F.C Judd.....he was a radio Amateur, as I am and have been for 50 years..still active on HF frequencies daily many friends across the US and the whole world.

Des, thanks so much for watching and commenting. I'm glad you liked it. I had never heard of Space (Planet) Patrol until I watched it on Amazon Prime in Fall of 2021. There were parallels between it and Fireball, but I was impressed with how the show embraced the science behind space flight (oxygen helmets instead of oxygen pills, and deep freeze cryogenic units to deal with the distance of space travel.) I felt the show was perfect for reanimation. As for now I plan to make several more Space Patrol episodes. Due to copyright ownership, ITV and Shout Factory keep all the revenue generated from ads on my Fireball XL5 videos so there's less incentive. I hope you will keep watching as I would hate to lose a longtime viewer, like you.
I remember seeing this (well, the original) first-run in 1964 or so. I was about 10 or 11 and remember thinking even then that the puppets were primitive, the stories and dialogue were dumb, and the sound effects were disgusting and obnoxious.

I didn't know this show existed until I saw it on Amazon Prime back in 2021. I found it oddly compelling and binged watched every episode.
I confess I was not a big fan of Space Patrol as against XL5, but you have done a brilliant job of re-imagining the show to make it both watchable and fun. I will miss your XL5 episodes but will stay loyal for future Space Patrol offerings. 👍A question - is Supercar caught up in the monetisation issue? I’d love to see what you might do to an episode of that iconic show!

I previewed it to my wife back in mid-March and I told her to be brutally honest. She loved it except for Marla & Slim (they were both green at the time). It took me 3 weeks and several variations of skin color to get them right. Hard at work on the next episode (a June or July 2023 release date target). The title will be "Armageddon II: Electric Boogaloo" based on the original episode "The Wandering Asteroid." To answer your question, I agree Supercar would be great to reanimate but ITV owns the copyright. Does this mean that you are no longer producing CGI versions of Fireball XL5? I was hoping to see: The Sun Temple, Flying Zodiac, Space Pen, Convict in Space, Space Vacation, Drama at Space City, 1875 and Ghosts of Space, all in CGI. These are 8 of the 12 GREATEST EPISODES of Fireball XL5. You have already done the other 4 episodes: Spy in Space, Space Monster, Flight to Danger and Prisoner on the Lost Planet. Your wonderful work on the Fireball XL5 project will be missed.

I agree there are many great episodes left to reanimate. However, this past December RUclips notified me that my videos can be monetized (make money from ad revenue). Though I can make and release future Fireball videos copyright claims from ITV and Shout Factory prohibit me from revenue sharing. That means there will be ads attached to my XL5 videos but I shall receive no profits. I understand and respect this but it does reduce the incentive of the time and effort that goes into producing a remake.
