I think you need to offer Cohen an Assistant Head Coach/OC role and some more money to keep him around. He needs some more experience in a quality organization. Maybe another year or two and then offer him the head coaching role
I want to say yes because I don’t want to lose Liam, but Bowles has done a great job with the team considering all the injuries, he’s gotten the guys ready to play. Next man up mentality starts with the coach preparing them. Wish there was a way we could have Liam become HC and have Todd as full time DC which I think suits him more

Whether there’s a ceiling for Todd Bolles is unknown. But considering his age, he might consider stepping aside in the near future to allow Liam to take thereins.
Let the season play out. If the team makes the playoffs they can deny HC interviews for Coen until after the playoffs. If they keep Bowles they can offer a contract restructure to Coen giving him close to HC money as Assistant HC. If he says no to that then the Bucs have to make a choice.
Its damn near impossible. In today's passing league, you need an offensive minded coach to win a superbowl. A guy like Andy Reid or Bruce arians. Bowles has zero offensive ability. Which is why he doesn't involve himself in it. And it loses us games. He is wayyyyy too conservative and will often play to not lose instead of win. Chiefs game and 49ers game as prime examples. He is also horrible in clock management and 2 minute situations. He is a great DC and a great defensive mind. But he just isn't the head coach we need in this Era of the NFL.
The ossue is 100% on roster building and injuries. The reason we have these mid season slumps and late season surges is because we have to spend a lot of time experimenting and developing practice squad level players
I think the roster building is great. If i'm tampa, next year, I'm drafting a MLB or Edge in the first round, with the other being in the second. Then grab another DB in the third. Everywhere else is good. QB is good, RBs are good, WRs are good, Oline is good, interior Dline is good.
@vinsanity982 we need almost a whole defense and you think the roster building is good and all our problems can be solved in 3 picks? This fanbase keeps deluding itself into thinking we don't have serious issues
It comes down to one thing: If Liam Cohen is offered a HC job and is about to leave.. then yes, for sure make him the Bucs' HC because we're talking about the best OC the Bucs and many others have ever known or seen.. or, or... Offer him a deal he can't refuse.
He will get offers. Maybe they should pay him the level of a HC. Also he needs more time as an OC. I would think it would be more fun to run one side of the ball and not deal with anything else.
Absolutely not.... We did the same thing with Dave Canales last year, and we all see how that's going. Give Baker his credit... Also, Bowles would land a job within hours. Build on what we've got....
I don't think he gets another job. You guys don't look at the entire picture. We've made the playoffs yes. But we have made the playoffs in the nfc south which is historically bad the last few years. And we haven't win the nfc south prior to the last week of the season. Which is absolutely pathetic. Someone has to make it. We also lose games in stupid ways. Like not having proper clock management. Or playing way too passive to not lose. Bowles is a great DC. And he'd get hired again as a DC. But if he gets fired here, I doubt he'll ever HC again. He's got a losing record as a HC.
I just wish more OCs and DCs made it a common courtesy not to leave a team for HC job without staying at least 3 years or winning a SB. I understand 2 head coaches would probably be against the rules but i am surprised a team hasn't tried it or come up with something comparable.
On the whole “Bowles has a ceiling” thing, you could argue that if baker doesn’t shit the bed against Atlanta twice, bucs are 10-4. At the end of the day Tampa as a team has played great all year given how many key players have been injured since week 3. Almost all of tampas losses are by 1 possession, and they might just have the toughest schedule in the league. I don't believe you get rid of Bowles at this point. There's no guarantee that Liam Cohen is going to be a better head coach than Bowles. Tampa went down that road before with Dirk Koetter and that turned out to be a bad decision (not as bad as Schiano though lol). If Tampa somehow misses the playoffs, then I think we can talk turkey about that. If anything, Bowles has shown a knack for picking great OC's
Coen replaced by anyone else would lose the lockeroom, all would be changed strictly by relationship , new schemes ...plus,relationship with Baker and Liam...
Right. That 4 game losing streak was mostly due to poor defensive play.. should’ve at least won 2 of those games. 1 of the Falcons games and should’ve beat the chiefs
No. It's almost always a mistake to promote a good play caller to HC. Thats a mistake the Browns made with baker. And OCs are not always good HCs.Why fix a machine that isn't broken. I would only agree if Cohen is going to leave to HC at another team.
The question truley lies on if the Bucs organization are content with where they are at. The answer to that is yes. The Bucs seem to be content with playing under Bowles and being on top of a shitty division. Bowles probably has another year or 2. I hope Liam stays, but I’m certain he won’t get the HC job until Bowles misses the playoffs.
One thing about Bowles he never puts any of his players under the bus he don't talk bad about them no matter how bad they play Bruce Arians co-signed him Dave conales was good too so should he be fired too
So because Players are making plays we aren’t going to credit the players who were already here? Just give Liam all the credit? Ignore Jason Lichts roster decisions, okay. Ignore Todd Bowles ability to develop a defensive scheme every week to mask our defensive weaknesses? lol bad take.
He would be my approach name him the air apparent make him the highest paid coach and work with Todd for you know another season or perhaps too. I believe Todd is a reasonable man and would do the right thing you could sell this as a win win who knows Cohen could suck being over the defense just saying.
If Todd bowls can fix this defense and lead us to a super bowl would be the only reason him over Cohen if it come down to it Cohen first but I think he wants to stay status quo I think we'll have one more year of Cohen at OC probably pay raise bump
If we made the nfc championship I'd possibly consider keeping bowles. It'd show improvement. But that's still a maybe for me. What people fail to realize is we are barely making the playoffs. And it's not because our division is competetive or good, it's because our division is bad and we just happen to be the shiniest turd at the time. We have so much talent it's ridiculous. We should be dominating the nfc south. And we should be nfc championship contenders every year. Eventually, the nfc south will get better. And when that happens, these slumps will kill our season.
Disappointed that you would start such a coversation James...Liam is a coordinator and did not just get off the boat. .Our current head coach brought him in and will let him go if he wants to leave ...The Bucs are not having a head coaching problem so why the hell you starting one? Remember Dirk Koetter Guys like you got Lovie Smith fired with great RESULTS HAHA
I agree. What i think isn't a reach is our secondary players have not developed. Thats a very fair statement. Bowles is great with the front 7. But our secondary has always been mid at best.
Todd Bowles sucks. He's like a broken clock. He does shine sometimes but he very inconsistent, he just stands there on the side lines expressionless the entire game which does NOTHING to motivate his players. It amazes me how people forget all about his garbage coaching when he has a couple of good games. Cohen is a rockstar and if we lose him the way we lost Canales it's going to suck.
Todd’s got to go!! He’s old and he should be a good father and retire to go watch his son play and it would help the organization if he passed the HC job just like BA did for him!
Dirk was a completely different situation. He was tasked with a developing a young QB in a lesser offense. Coen will be tasked with continuing the success of a vet QB in a top offense. They arent comparable and fans assuming the same situation is a joke
Exactly. What fans also don't consider is we are barely winning the nfc south each year. We aren't winning the division until the last week of the season every year. Eventually, the division will get better. It isnt a question of if but when. And eventually, these slumps will kill our season. And it's every year this happens with bowles.
@@JohnDoe-xp6oh in fairness, 2022 was injury plagued as well and this year 4¾ games without Evans, Godwin out for the season and the defense not playing a single game with every starter has been the biggest issue more than Bowles has been. Kancey missed the first few weeks, AWJ and our CB depth went out week 1. We've lost Tykee, Dean, Whitehead, and now Edwards and AWJ again. Most at different times where we get one back and another pops up on the practice report. But aside from the defense.. between the second game vs ATL and OT with KC and SF without Evans and Godwin, the refs handing ATL both games.. this team could/should be 12-2 with Bowles defense. Some can say "every team has injuries, it's next man up". Sure, every team has injuries and the next man is up. But not every team is losing guys like Evans, Godwin, AWJ, Kancey or other guys that the "next man" could never play even similar to let alone at an all pro/pro bowler level.
@BryKG the issue with the kc and sf games were bowles playing not to lose instead of playing to win. You gotta beat the chiefs in regulation not in overtime. He played passive. And with Atlanta we were passive in game one on their last drive. Defensive minded head coaches don't win championships in today's NFL.
Often what happens is a great coordinator becomes a head coach of that same team, and that side of the ball is not as good as it was when they were coaching it. If Tampa can pay Coen like a head coach and bring in a better defensive coach and head coach, this team could be something special.
I wouldnt keep Bowles. No everything went down with Bowles look at the 3 seasons he has had. In all 3 the defense which is his forte has gotten worse. The offense picked up last season. It has gotten even better this season. None due to Bowles. Lucky we have had 2 great qbs Brady now Baker. Its because of them we have improved the way we have. Bowles is far too pasive to be a head coach. A defensive coach well our defense has fallen so maybe not even that at this point.

Cohens history shows that he will leave the team he’s on after one year.
Right. That 4 game losing streak was mostly due to poor defensive play.. should’ve at least won 2 of those games. 1 of the Falcons games and should’ve beat the chiefs
Just pay Liam alot of money to stay OC
Bucs Nation pretty much plagiarizing my thoughts LOLs
Byron leftwhich was not on Todd Bowles
Bs todd picked Liam and now y'all want to replace him what a load of shit if I was todd and yal was trying me I would retire
You’re reaching when you say the defensive players haven’t developed.
I agree. What i think isn't a reach is our secondary players have not developed. Thats a very fair statement. Bowles is great with the front 7. But our secondary has always been mid at best.
I’m a Bucs fan and this crap makes me hate Bucs fans. Do y’all not remember the 20 years of being terrible before Arians and Bowles got here????
Support on this team is so weird
Why you wanna be a trouble maker?
Keep Bowles and when Liam leaves bring back Canales… Tepper will probably fire him at season’s end…
Can you chill on this coach thing . We aren’t even done with this season.
Big OC payday at a minimum
Todd’s got to go!! He’s old and he should be a good father and retire to go watch his son play and it would help the organization if he passed the HC job just like BA did for him!
You know, too many cooks in the kitchen. Are gonna spoil the food. So quit messing with the kitchen
No he shouldn't! Neither should Bowles! But he should remain the oc
Promote bowls to hire office like we did with bruce.Aryans, or you're gonna end up losing liam cohen to the saints
Hell yea
Fire todd and the bucs are shit again oc doesnt mean youll make a good hc
Often what happens is a great coordinator becomes a head coach of that same team, and that side of the ball is not as good as it was when they were coaching it. If Tampa can pay Coen like a head coach and bring in a better defensive coach and head coach, this team could be something special.
Very likely
I wouldnt keep Bowles. No everything went down with Bowles look at the 3 seasons he has had. In all 3 the defense which is his forte has gotten worse. The offense picked up last season. It has gotten even better this season. None due to Bowles. Lucky we have had 2 great qbs Brady now Baker. Its because of them we have improved the way we have. Bowles is far too pasive to be a head coach. A defensive coach well our defense has fallen so maybe not even that at this point.
I would like to keep Coach Todd Bowles but if Liam is doing great then I don’t hate the idea of a new HC.
No way
Most fans just don’t like Todd Bowles it doesn’t matter what he does that is my conclusion . He can’t even get credit for the teams recent success it always what he isn’t doing. If they do fire him in a way I’ll be happy for him because he’s done more than enough to deserve a fan base that appreciates him and supports him.
Talk about this now when we are winning, they can wait until we get out of the playoffs
