If someone gets the opportunity to ask Scott what he liked about Grinch, I'd like to hear. Like "how does Alex fit into your vision and culture for the team"? The answer is probably that no one wants to sign up to the Scott Frost risky admin, but I still want to hear what positives he saw in Grinch and how he can sell it.
U guys think too highly of UCF. No offense but UCF is broke....comparatively speaking. So let me get this right: HC - Couldnt afford or were rejected by every one except for Frost ( who was an Special Teams analyst in the NFL) DC - was essentially just a position coach at Wisc. His salary was $500k OC - Off field analyst at a G5 school. Its obvious that UCF is still a stepping stone job with limited funds to support the football program.
I’d love to hear from Frost but we probably won’t. So my take… His stats besides 2017 and 2020/2021 aren’t good. (But I guess in turnovers, sacks and some other specific areas) 1. We are bleeding in recruiting and that is a huge positive for this dude and need for UCF 2. Grinch is familiar with the teams in Big12 and Power 4 and even the system since l he’s been at many mega programs. 3. Even is Frost does a 80% speed fast offense but hiring a dude whose been through the grinder with offenses offenses and coaches that didn’t care (hoping that Frost knows this, makes the adjustment and Marty’s both styles somehow) but it makes sense to get someone whose familiar with that speed and willing to work with that D approach. 4. Maybe we save some money on this hire while it still fits Frosts plan since he was a Co prior he gets a title bump in P4 and we save money. (We have the $20M /yr to account for + NIL) My only thing is knowing is he’s good with players, vibes, locker room and keeping momentum going. If we believe in Frost and they have truly and entire year to work, develop, plan things out…. It’s very possible that they can build a cohesive offense and defense that complement each other. Let’s just always ask ourselves… would you rather Gus still be here hiring an 70 year old Ted Roof (I think that wayyyyyyyy worse) Grinch is younger, can recruit and clearly Frost think fits into his master plan. He needs a guy to build from scratch with and get dirty with him. Not many people will want that. Also @Sean and Nick… you guys want people to stay here for a while…. Grinch is probably a dude that will stay too. We do need consistency wherever we can get bc this F’n transfer portal is a nightmare for everyone.
Fellas as always thanks for the content and dedication to put out all the UCF news😎 I’m with Nick and what’s seems to be 95% of the college football landscape on this…. What a dog💩hire (excuse my French). Although I wasn’t sold on the OC hire it was easy to see and be sold Frost was running the show and calling plays, but man oh man the DC hire needed to be close to a grand slam and this was a total wiff(on paper and for now) I hope I’m wrong. I hate to say this for my Alma mater and the team I root for ….. and I think someone in the comment section mentioned it ….. perhaps we aren’t an attractive job or as good as we think we are in this very moment. Idk I get the feeling from the HC postion to now these corrdinators we got told no and rejected so we had to pull the trigger on what seems like our last resorts. I just feel like UCF isn’t a place ppl want to willingly come here and do something awesome. I hope I’m wrong and these guys build something truly special we can all be proud of …. Till then charge on and much love ⚡️🖤💛
Uhhhh fan excitement for Frost: Immense High Fan excitement for Grinch: Immense low So I said it’s a complete 180 or 360 from the Frost hire compared to the Grinch hire in terms of excitement….
Any chance this could be a Terry hirer? I’m OK if Scott made the decision to hire grinch but I do wonder if this was one of the conditions for Scott to be hired as the head coach is for Terry to pick the DC
I don’t get the Alex grinch hate. He was a top 20 DC at Washington State. It’s hard to be a DC with Riley because Riley is a fast paced offense. USC wasn’t bringing in the defensive talent. He was only ever DC with Washington state and under Lincoln Riley.
Any DC is better than the last 4 years. Reading these comments from non experts is hilarious, however, freedom of speech protects their insufferabilty. Long live 1A!
You do bring up a good point Paul. I wouldn’t agree that he’s better than Travis Williams but in terms of over the last couple years, doesn’t hurt you to try him. But there’s a reason so many are against it to be fair.
Worst hire you can't be serious , this guy has failed in many places. This is not what I expected for UCF at all. I need to find out who they will hire for recruiting. An this Grinch guy won't last next season.
@@charlielema8626 what “places” are you taking about…? Could you list them out. 2022 season at USC they were 11-3, they were 7-3 before he was fired. When he was at OKlahoma they went to three conference championships and won two of them. At Ohio State they won the Big Ten Championship when he was co-DC So I’m all ears waiting to hear about all these places he was a failure Do tell…🤔
I mean, the entire college football community is openly having a laugh at UCF for hiring Alex Grinch. We’re far from alone in not liking this hire. We’ll see.
@ChargeOnUCF maybe UCF isn't as attractive to other coaches as the fans think...small pool of money for assistant coaches...i understand you need to make content but at least wait until spring football starts...like terry said..every situation is different
100%. This is just our 1st reaction. We understand there are other factors and circumstances. We even said at the end that we are open to changing our mind. This is just in the moment how we felt. Appreciate you for watching regardless!
I love your podcast, but… Man you guys love to point up and say the sky is falling Let’s look at his record everyone is complaining about. 🤔 In 2019, He helped get the horrible Sooner defense turned around and they won the B12 Championships in 2019 and 2020, and was runner up in 2021… Then at USC he had a 11-3 record in 2022 His 2023 USC only lost to Notre Dame, Conference Champ Washington, and an excellent Utah team. They had some large scores run up but beat Noah Fifita’s Arizona (in 3OT) and Shaduer Sander’s Colorado. (Two QB’s known for lighting a lot of defenses up) USC had a 7-3 record until he was fired Excuse me for wondering, but why is everyone so down on a guy that took two crap defenses, brought the first to three conference championships (winning twice), and a 18-6 record in the Pac 12…? Really ? If he can reproduce those results at UCF I’ll be more than happy . He’s NOT Ted freaking Roof. I say give him a chance before everyone decides he’s a mistake Cmon people
@savannahfan We know you tune in all the time and appreciate you as always. We didn’t say the sky is falling lol we just said we don’t think it’s a great hire. And it looks like a lot of people would agree. At the end of the day, with any hire, it could end up working out great or it could fall flat on its face. Look at Ted Roof. Everyone thought it was a really bad hire and….it was. A lot of people loved the Gus hire and ultimately….it wasn’t great. For all we know, Grinch can be an amazing DC at UCF. But our 1st reaction was that we didn’t like it. Like we said at the end, we are totally open to changing our mind as the weeks and months roll along. We appreciate you tuning in as always and appreciate the dialogue!
@@ChargeOnUCF you guys give honest and unbiased opinions and I love hearing what you have to say. It’s like talking UCF over wings and beers at the local sports bar. 🍺 I just like to give my two cents, that’s all, I think we all need to keep our expectations of what UCF can afford in mind… The proven coaching talent without a blemish will likely be out of our price range (as everyone is looking to hire those guys and money talks). Afterall we are still pretty much running on G5 revenue while incurring the overhead of a P4 program. It’s double tough when you have to wait for a full share, after paying 18million to leave the AAC behind. But just like recruiting player talent others have overlooked, we can succeed with coaches others have passed on. This staff IS a total risk. But that’s where the greatest reward can be found. I like it. Grinch is experienced, in P4 level, with proven successes. He also fumbled, but I’d rather take a guy that has dropped the ball somewhere else, and learned his lessons than a barely known G5 DC that might fumble the ball coaching for us Both Frost and Grinch are hungry, determined, and motivated to show everyone that they are more than their mistakes How does that saying go…? You learn more from a hard loss than an ugly win. I think Gus never really lost hard enough, to humble himself into adapting or trying to innovate Im betting that’s not an issue with Frost or Grinch… I’ll take young and determined with something to prove, over what we had. That’s the ethos UCF has had in the past, and will find success with again So just like the name of your show, let’s Charge ON 🏈
So in other words, business as usual for UCF. High powered offense, gash for defense. Cardiac Knights.
😂
You know it’s bad when the whole conference is thanking UCF for making this hire 😢
Time will tell. Negativity breeds negativity. New opportunity to prove his abilities at a new program.

I feel bad for UCF. No team or fanbase deserves Grinch as a DC. I don’t understand this hire.

Can I nominate anyone named Rudolph?

The fact Riley was forced to fire him by non-football boosters tells a story. Riley didn't want to let him go, what did he know the boosters didn't.
@@dpf96 that Grinch knew his stuff… he got hired right back into a B10 program, so obviously Riley wasn’t the only one with that opinion.
