    Although I realize that for moisture reasons, sometimes plastic pots are more practical, I must say I do love love the look of the beautiful green shades of plants against the color of terra cotta pots. Just so beautiful and aestheticlly pleasing.

You always find a way to place your camera at an optimal angle and you always take the time to make that Canon focus 😂 I love seeing the roots of the plants and hear your thought process when you repot. I always use 2 containers when repotting, so I can take the plant out of the old pot in one of them, and use that to transfer the old soil to the new pot! You should try it ☺️ always a joy when you post, thanks 💚

    I know it’s alittle late but terracotta pots suck up the water and are more suited for dryer plants like cacti or succulents. I use ceramic or plastic pots for my aroids and they’re doing great and are able to retain moisture in the soil.

  • @ronjakh

    I’ve just started using mychorriza as well and mine says to use 1 tablespoon per 10 litres of soil 🙈 I can’t be bothered with all that so I just sprinkle the tiniest amount, like a baby-pinch into each pot really close to the roots

    Just use a coffee filter or piece of paper towel in the bottom of your pots. That will hold the soil in until your plant roots and will eventually decompose.

    Hi Fern, although I use only plastic pots (need the lingering moisture) and therefore ca'nt be sure about the terracotta pots drainage hole size, I plug all of the holes in pot with leca balls (just place a big ball on the top of the hole and cover with soil) - it provides enough cover but in the same time allows the water to drain :-)

  • @lindsayannereis6595
    @lindsayannereis6595 2 года назад +4

    Hey Fern, regarding the drainage hole and the mesh you use, alternatively you can just use a pretty decent size of bark from your soil mix. That's what I do with mine and haven't had any issues of soil going through the drainage hole when being watered. Hope this helps!

    • @ninabeena83
      @ninabeena83 2 года назад +1

      Same here, I usually pick out the biggest flat bark pieces from my mix and strategically 😂 place them in the bottom, sometimes anchored by a few small rocks or a thin perlite layer
      Before that I was using small pieces of screen mesh, which I didn’t really have an issue with being able to get it off the roots per se, but then again I have had to cut them off roots that had grown through before

    I have my McDowell in a long planter now too, and it does look odd in a half empty pot. I'm just not sure how quickly it crawls and wanted to give it room. 🤷 I do make sure I am careful about over watering though since it's in a larger planter than it currently needs.

    Just a quick glance at your Ikea cabinet at the end there made me wonder if you've thought about some kind of tier system to put your smaller plants on to give more room? It looks like the top half of the cabinet isn't really getting much use aside from poles (and the Amydrium but you said you're moving it soon).
    Reason I mention it is I'm thinking about it for my grow tank. You can get those cupboard shelf things where you put one sort of plate/cup on the bottom and then above it is another layer and you can put the other kind on the top shelf to free up shelf space? I've seen ones for cans and the like as well.
    Also I just realised in this video that the gorgeous rainbow cardigan I thought you have isn't a rainbow cardigan and it's just your lights haha

    • @wildfern
      @wildfern  2 года назад

      Yes I’ve seen people use suction cups and/or put a grid on the sides and hang plants from there. I’m thinking of doing something like that because I’d like some of my smaller Hoya to get a boost up closer to the light!

    I use tissue paper a little piece just enough to cover the hole for some time to let the soil stay in place or I use coco cubes to block it but like 70% blocked and 30% loose so that the water won't rush through the drainage hole and will also help you saturate the soil for a little bit. I hope it helps 💚
