    The greatest pianist on planet Earth at the current moment. I saw Pogorelich on numerous occasions in the 1980s and revered his playing, but Malofeev is now the reigning master, no question.

  • @newgeorge

    Just stunning playing. Listening to this young artists performances over the past three days I just cannot express adequately enough the effect that he has had on me. I think what impresses me most is his command of the WHOLE. I noticed this in the Rachmaninoff sonata I heard yesterday. Yes every moment is full of poetry and meaning but it is the WHOLE which he unveils like a sculpture. He has an understanding of the entire piece and his fingers just have to obey his vision. He is totally unsparing in the demands he places on his technical abilities - a very Russian trait I think - I cannot think of another pianist at the moment who effects me in such a profound way.

    • @penniesfromheaven9724

      @newgeorge ..I completely agree with you. He seems to have that same effect on many of us. He's mesmerizing as he seems to become one with the music. A gift to the world of music.

    It's when the piece slows that this (still a) boy, shows greatness. I have listened to many other pianists play this scherzo. But none have the pureness of heart that comes through in each note of Alexander's. He brings to us something from deep inside. From the soul. I hear this same sound in everything he touches. Like a signature. No words can express my thanks.

He plays the music with amazing insight and truly gorgeous expression...no matter what he plays, and this, btw, is beautiful!!! It seems he is completely in love with the music he is performing. Such a masterful performance.
    Edit: And I just noticed about a week before this solo performance, he also performed Tchaikovsky's Concerto No. 1...with two encores, one of which was Ravel's "Ondine!!" I wonder if he had a chance to sleep during that month!! What a brave and dedicated young man!

    Malofeev is my favorite young pianist. In my opinion, he is the best piano prodigy in our time. I remember watching Kissin but Malofeev past young Kissin by a mile. I like his firing spirit and style and firing excitement often cause problem in playing and competition. But he is not perfect. I believe in a very near future he will be mature, and his playing will be refined. The same goes for Mikhail Plenev and Pogorelich, I like these two a lot too but I find they are good at some types some time too, but not great at some others. Just like Rubinstein is my Chopin's favorite and I don't believe some one will past his Chopin in our lifetime. If you watch Pogorelich today live, the chance you are disapointed is rather 50/50 even though he still possesses best technique as many others. He may be too much into teaching or making money as many pianist his age. Sad. For Malofeev, if anyone doubt, put this clip next to the guy who fail final stage last Chopin concour Alexei Tartakosky and compare. Malofeev is my favorite young pianist he is most fun to watch for me now. But he needs to refine his playing.

    Exceptional interpretation, with high level phrasing, some very refined passages, worthy of a great artist. If I were listening to a performer at a competition such as the Chopin Competition I would have no doubts whatsoever. A wonder in our eyes and, more importantly, in our ears. Eccezionale interpretazione, con fraseggi di alto livello, alcuni passaggi raffinatissimi, degni di un grande Artista. Se stessi ascoltando un interprete ad un Concorso quale il Concorso Chopin non avrei dubbio alcuno. Una meraviglia ai nostri occhi e, più, alle nostre orecchie.

    The trouble with emphasising the contrasts, in the manner of Ivo Pogorelich (the greatest living pianist, whom I'm sure Malofeev has been listening to) is that it can, on occasion, undermine, rather than enhance, the emotion which the music was written to convey. Though I think Alexander is second only to Ivo, I do, here, prefer Robert Neumann's account of Chopin's First Scherzo. It is less mannered, more subdued, but equally intense.

    • @lerud1
      @lerud1 7 лет назад +5

      Ivo Pogorelich the greatest living pianist? What a wit you are! Do you know Mikhail Pletnev? And Pollini? And Zimerman? And Kissin?

    • @francescoboneri
      @francescoboneri 7 лет назад +5

      Kissin's childhood recording of the Chopin concertos is marvellous, but thereafter . . . Pletnev I believe is a friend of Pogorelich and doesn't even regard himself as being in the same league as Ivo . . . I admire Pollini for playing Stockhausen; indeed, Karlheinz's Klavierstücke should by now be part of the standard repertoire of every concert pianist . . . If you want to compare Pogorelich with anyone, try Cziffra . . .

    • @Panzerino02
      @Panzerino02 6 лет назад +3

      Actually, the Mr. Malofeev rendition here is extremely close to the late Sviatoslav Richter's rendition, and nothing to do with Pogorelich.
