Hi Marty, love your channel, learned a lot from you. Quick question: Just listened to the “isolated” track at half speed; I hear a single “chug” on the low E string, pedaled before the C chord and again before the D. Yes/No? And…..it also sounds to me that on the 3rd (or maybe the 4th “go round”), he missed it! What do you think? Either way, the lesson’s still one of the best out there!
Yeh, it’s pretty basic man. I use a Fractal AX8 in to a focusrite scarlett 2 channel interface. And record in to pro tools. Any DAW will work. I am using a Friedman BE sim they have in there but have tweaked the gain and eq a little. I run a vintage Celestion 4x12 impulse response that came loaded with the Fractal. (There’s tons of them in there). I mess around with the proximity settings in the cabinet section to give it a fuller sound. Sounds complicated but it’s not really. But that’s it. I do this for direct recording. And gigs that I run without amps.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker great tone! Is there a reason why you are using the Freidman amp sim in the DAW? I thought Fractal AX8 had better amp sims. Sorry for the questions but I’m desperately trying to get better tone from my own rig.
@@guitarsolocholo4816 I am using the amp sim within the fractal. I record into pro tools. Mix and then use that audio with my videos. I just use pro tools to capture the fractal and sync video and audio.

one question -- what's your delay setting? I always have a difficult time getting the right early VH slap delay sound. Insult to injury is I have the MXR EP-103 Echoplex pedal and can't just get the sound right. Any suggestions?
Live I run mono. Usually like 385 ms 20% mix. Feedback around 25% Stereo Fractal AX8 varies. 365-385 ms left. 525-650 ms right. 12-14% mix left. 7-9% right. 20% feedback.
One of My favorite songs. I’m an Absolute Beginner and it’s going to take Me years to learn. Only problem is I don’t have years as I’m suffering from Stage 4 Inoperable Double Lung Cancer. I wish I could still work but I’m 100% disabled due to My breathing difficulties. I get winded very easily when walking a very short distance. Sometimes that’s back and forth to the kitchen for like a glass of tea or a snack (Chips, cookies, and or a sandwich).

All lessons show it with the first three chords being played as barre chords, but in all live video's I see Edward playing the second and third chord differently...
As a drummer, I never played with a guitar player who played it “right”… so it was always tricky to land on the beat… & keep it in the right place, cause I would be so infatuated with that magic guitar part & lost in it… and of course Eddie leaves out a beat here & there & always lands on his feet.

@@Ranch5150SkinWalker ah! Awesome! Carry on making great Van Halen vids. Eddie was the greatest and you are paying great homage to his work. Can never have enough Van Halen dissection.
@@guitarsolocholo4816 thank you! I am afraid my first answer to you was not really that clear. I am sorry. 🥂😎
When you analyze this song open thinking music theory, what's going on with three major chords a whole step apart? Bb, C, D.
Eddie love sus4. Lol. Very mixolydian with that flat 7 chord (C).
Just doing some double-tapping on my keyboard and found you, Marty5150. (SUB'D) Really enjoying your instructionals concerning VH. Learning a LOT from you, Kind Sir. QUESTION: Could you provide a brief overview concerning VH tone and how to dial it in for the rest of us? THANK YOU!
I think that tuning is refered to as drop C#.
one question -- what's your delay setting? I always have a difficult time getting the right early VH slap delay sound. Insult to injury is I have the MXR EP-103 Echoplex pedal and can't just get the sound right. Any suggestions?
Live I run mono. Usually like 385 ms 20% mix. Feedback around 25%
Stereo Fractal AX8 varies. 365-385 ms left. 525-650 ms right. 12-14% mix left. 7-9% right. 20% feedback.
Wow, THAT GUITAR sounds so Bad Ass!!! Which model and year Kramer is that? Which pickup is that? Duncan Distortion?
One of My favorite songs. I’m an Absolute Beginner and it’s going to take Me years to learn. Only problem is I don’t have years as I’m suffering from Stage 4 Inoperable Double Lung Cancer. I’ve ALWAYS wanted to learn how to read music but to Me it was like learning Hieroglyphics. As I never could understand them.
Keep going man! So sorry to hear you are not well. 🙏
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Thank You I Appreciate It. I’m well it’s just I’m suffering from Stage 4 Inoperable Double Lung Cancer. I have My good days and My Bad days. I can only watch RUclips for so long and that gets boring and I can watch movies and that gets boring. So as You can see it gets boring. I wish I could still work but I’m 100% disabled due to My breathing difficulties. I get winded very easily when walking a very short distance. Sometimes that’s back and forth to the kitchen for like a glass of tea or a snack (Chips, cookies, and or a sandwich).
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I also use Cannabis Oil to help with the Cancer. And whenever My lungs allow it I smoke a joint or 2. I can’t use bongs or Dabs as it’s way to much smoke intake and My lungs won’t allow it. Now joints are perfect for Me.
@@vestel777 hang in there man. Guitar of course is a great way to find peace and there is always something new to discover. From playing, collecting, building … etc etc!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Here recently I’ve been watching RUclips videos of the Harley Benton Guitar Kit Builds and they’re interesting to watch. I personally love the PRS & Les Paul Kits. There’s one of the kits that was an Eddie Van Halen Inspired PRS. Here’s the link to the video. ruclips.net/video/B0b4ha2_6xo/видео.html
All lessons show it with the first three chords being played as barre chords, but in all live video's I see Edward playing the second and third chord differently...
Ed was a mystery and I think he changed things up a lot during the song.
As a drummer, I never played with a guitar player who played it “right”… so it was always tricky to land on the beat… & keep it in the right place, cause I would be so infatuated with that magic guitar part & lost in it… and of course Eddie leaves out a beat here & there & always lands on his feet.
Drop D or Drop C# tuning?
Krammmeerrr
Yep I busted out the Special for this one! 😎🤟🏻
is it in drop d too?
Hey Marty...That SUIT is YOU! One break... Coming UP! 😁
Come on David…. Gimme a break!!!!!!!! 😂
Hi! 1:53 where is this melody from?
Guitarhero
It's weird, I can NOT find anywhere on RUclips how to play The Full Bug......
Amazing, you are incredible friend. I have two of my solos on my page, would love your critique. Thank you. Rock on. You are awesome.
Thanks man. I will check it out later tonight or tomorrow. I appreciate you!
Thank you bro please 🙏 type in 4,500 chibson part one and two thanks bro
You’re welcome. 👍👍
Thank you bro I'm not trying to go viral I m just happy with what I've built
Not sure about Pre Chorus
Whaasong
So it is in Drop C#.
The other Van Halen song I like was Mean Streets, and Sammy era was Judgement Day Live. Here’s the link to the Live Version that I LOVE. ruclips.net/video/YERXSod_2bs/видео.html
Judgement day was so awesome live. I like the recorded version but live it took on a whole new energy!
I can tell you 1 thing for sure, Nobody & I mean Nobody could even come close to tie Eddies Sneakers 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Yes! 🤟🏻
Rick's cool 😂
Yes - but not really. And Eddie tuned the B string a little flat so the chords would ring true instead of wavering. .
True man! Due to the guitar intonation. Makes it sound juicy and very EVH.
Please tabs
Another one coming early Saturday with tabs 😎🎵
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker you re lessons is the best on RUclips
@@Gabriel-uj4vt thanks. So glad you like them 😎
That Kramer is a $200 guitar
15:15
You're not playing it correctly the open picking right before David starts has a flange effect, Eddie picking upwards on the neck
Perhaps. I’m not going for 100% perfection, I’m showing how to play the tune and learn from it. The techniques and theory behind it. The tones and little tricks people may not know about. I appreciate your comment but Truthfully I’m not EVH by any stretch and I think only he could really demo it perfectly and he probably wouldn’t even remember how he is it if he were here. Haha. But thanks for the comment man. ☮️
There is a guy I believe on RUclips , the "Shut up and play your guitar" dude who has this song down to perfection but Marty does a pretty good job.
I disagree with you, Marty. I think the toughest part of the song is that crazy pre-chorus
True. The rhythm is so odd!!!
There's no sound
Try again, just posted. I think RUclips was still getting it ready. I hear sound so it appears ok now.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker you're right it's working. Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work
@@jrrampino1858 awesome. And you’re welcome. Had me worried for a moment. Lol. Thank you so much 😎
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker no problem I didn't want you to go through all that hard work and nobody could hear the video. I also love your passion for EVH.
Wow, most perfect again 😍
You should learn to play it right first bro... Just saying! Maybe check out the isolated track..
I did man. It’s pretty close. Or perhaps you can post a lesson since you have it down.
nice try
😂😂😂😂😂
Talks a lot!!!! Be more direct in your vídeos!!!!!!!!!
Only the chugs get the flanger, correct?
