This is by far THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RENDITION of this classic tune that I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE ... and I'm not a young man! It's about a river in my home state of Ohio. Thank you for posting this.
I'm a fiddler and this performance is excellent. The loose but accurate playing of all three is spot on. Listen to the rhythm of the fiddle "chops" with just enough of chord coming through to tie the song together. And the mando rings like a bell. The bass has the bounce this song needs. I think I'll listen again.
I remember this concert well. The Oregon Mandolin Orchestra Chamber Ensemble played a "lobby concert" before Sierra Hull and the Portland Chamber Orchestra went on.
You guys did a great job on this. I live in Guadalajara, Mexico, but this song takes me back to my roots growing up along Paint Creek, which is a tributary of "Big Sciota" (the Scioto River). Keep up the good work!
Normally I really dislike modernistic and schmaltzy takes on beautiful old fiddle tunes like this. But this was really interesting, refreshing and great. Thanks.

What a great performance. As was born near the banks of the Scioto River, this song has always had a special place in my heart.
Great video with enough suspense to keep the viewer watching till the end !

Those gently tasteful fiddle breaks give it new life.

Simply awesome.
I could hear a guitar player, I just couldn't see one. Plus that sailors suit....that was a "hell yeah baby!". 2:13
Fantastic rendering of the great tune which is normally played in the key of G by the purists in jam sessions worldwide.
Nice version and video ;)
Quite nice, especially the fiddling.

This is the best/worst video ever! And, of course, the best song ever.
I kinda liked the green dress.
A nice easy listening rendition of the Big Sciota song. The musicians capture the bluegrass sound but I believe that they are from England.
Yes from UK, Where we exported our music to the good old USA.
river side was cool best band at the gig
Great job. What kind of Mando is that?
It's a Kristufek (Krishot if you're in the US), made in the Czech Republic
...cool
Just seen the credits.
