I love how your not the usual RUclips builder that provides entertainment instead of what you show as simple instruction and let the workflow as it naturally would. No smart comments and it's also refreshing that you realize your audience may know a thing or two about building. I wouldn't imagine novices watching videos of this sort but DIY'ers and tradesmen looking for any new methods of construction and may be useful new tools and techniques. Thank you.
I enjoyed this. It turned out good. My daughter used to come with me too … to the job site. Then she grew up… I wish I could’ve bottle up that time with her.
Every time I watch your videos Ken, I can't help but think of how much fun it would be to be apart of your crew and build workshops and various buildings such as this one! The thought comes to mind quite often to leave my career as a licensed Master Electrician and learn how to do framing. Monetarily it would be hard to 'start over' in another trade, but I think that the enjoyment and education I would gain would be the compensation. Thanks for bringing us along!
I like the fact you built your own trusses, makes sense on a 16' building. You guys are all very well organized and an efficient building machine. If I were to be critical, I would of installed four cripples on each end trusses to better carry the osb. Enjoy your vids a breath of fresh air on the youtube. Wishing you and your crew a happy New Year.
Really enjoy your videos Ken.... Its always enjoyable watching pros at their trade doing their thing..... Merry Christmas to you and your crew and your families.....
Thanks for making all of these videos Ken! You’ve given me inspiration to tackle my own garage. Along with the essential craftsman’s channel. Have a merry Christmas!
nice shop. in 5 years u wish u went larger u watch. lol. my shop keeps me from going off the deep end. running a lathe is very therapeutic. thank u for sharing sir
This is just what I will need when I move this spring. I wish I lived closer to you Ken, I would love to have you build it for me. Love your channel, and I am glad I met you through Al and Gina Lumnah's channel.
Your attention to detail is very good 👌 for example, the vinyl siding on the long wall. You made sure the vinyl siding is overlapping towards the back so when looking at it the sidewall from the front, looks like one whole piece of vinyl siding because you can't see the overlap from the front! A lot of builders don't care about that but you do. Great job 👍
I’ll be watching this again. I’m building the same structure and I’ll be able to do it in the same amount of days …. We’ll I mean I have to add a zero after the number of day so 40 days sound about right. Keep them coming. You got a great crew.
It was great to see Lauren help you with the concrete pour. Dan is amazing at moving everything. It's really going up fast! I'm happy to see that they put windows on the backside so they can enjoy the view. I'm not sure I've seen Josh before. Beautiful little building! Thanks for this Ken. Merry Christmas!
Thanks for sharing the price, that's always helpful. The Shop Nation fella is building a shed, a nice shed, but I bet he'll have $25k in it after it's said and done.
Hi Ken been watching you for a long time now. I’m 64 and framed my whole life recently retired. We framed like you years ago but wind codes evolved since early 2000’s. All plywood wall seems need blocking larger than 4’ openings need 2 jacks and 2 king studs, garage headers need to span entire length of building with portal framing techniques if there isn’t sufficient shear on each side of opening. BTW this is in northern VA. I’m in NC now building my shop and I thought it was bad in VA what an experience this has been. I sure miss those simpler days of framing. You bring me fond memories of the good old days.
We get wind in the pacific northwest and have the same stringent wind shear requirements. You wouldnt believe all the simpson metal a garage is required to have these days here.
Im so happy I found your channel, My grandpa and dad were home builders for many years when i was a younger kid now I'm 30 trying to learn all the tricks, I've built a few garages and helped out build some with all of what goes with it. Your really calm, cool and collective it is sweet to learn from,,,I defiantly have worked with my fair share of hot heads haha, mostly been doing floorcovering for 12 years now getting into more involved building to diversify, cause I'm getting bored on just floors. showing the cost is honest as it gets I like your way of doing things.
That is an awesome job, Ken :) Well done! I'd like to build something like this. Just trying to help a single mom who lost her house in a fire almost 2 months ago. A small room of the size of your workshop might be useful for her in the meantime, while she gets back on her feet. She's been sleeping in a tent on her property. Go figure. Perhaps I can also start a gofundme to make this possible. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work sir. Cheers -George
Amazing video as usual! I’m impatiently waiting for ryobi to come out with a cordless framing gun! I might end up biting the bullet soon and purchase the one you have!
Hey Ken, Thx for the recap. BTW, as far as your new weight loss program, it should include a provision for stimulating the elimination process. Many folk do not "go" as often as they should. But the rule of thumb for a healthy digestive tract is "One in-one out!" We use herbal teas which can help with this. Many are available at your local stores, and online. Of course lots of veg and fruits are recommended. We curmudgeons often must eat more produce to make up for what we didn't get while younger!
I’m a carpenter working in Canada. I think that’s a steel of a deal! Well done. There’s always different ways to do things, so no point in debating technique. All the work they do seems to be done right. And I think that’s a great price for the good quality and efficient work.
I really like how you pre build your garage packages in your shop then trailer everything to the site you are very efficient and I bet you can control your costs better I just subscribed I am a carpenter in northern Minnesota and I’m still learning better ways to do things every day. Thanks
Interesting, I was wondering where you were it's a small world i grow up right there @ the 3 village's in Canada. Thanks for sharing I enjoyed this video & actually worked for Butterfields making drills & tap's.& cutting gears. Great video & you & the boy's do great work.
lol. Where I live $20,000 will get you some of the slab. Another $20.000 will get you the lumber. Then there's the electrical, the finishing etc....another $20,000. Then there is the driveway....
That seems to me to be a very good price for a work shop of that size. You go to the big box stores and check on there shed/shops and that low price goes flying out of the window (very small window) when you add in all the extras.
Would be interesting to see one of your scenic videos on that town that straddles the border. Sounds fascinating that direct neighbours' fencelines are country borders!
@@kenskarpentry It throws up so many questions. Like when a neighbour borrows a cup of sugar over the fence are there govt sales tax forms to fill out?

It crossed my mind that watching Ken and his crew is like "poetry in motion". It is good to watch Ken's channel. Thank you for sharing. 😊

Thanks for the video. Going to be building a shop just like this one. This video will come in handy when building my shop.
As I get older I realize it is always a beautiful time of the Year. Thank you, Ken...

Depends on the snow load and the spacing of the trusses. Why use extra material when it’s not required?
Really enjoy your videos Ken.... Its always enjoyable watching pros at their trade doing their thing..... Merry Christmas to you and your crew and your families.....
Thanks merry Christmas to you
Love the simplicity of those trusses. I don't recall ever seeing them put together like that. Reckon I'll be giving it a go next time.
Thanks for making all of these videos Ken! You’ve given me inspiration to tackle my own garage. Along with the essential craftsman’s channel. Have a merry Christmas!

You have such a great way of keeping the process running smoothly at each step of the build.!!!!!!

Looks exceptionally awesome your work is second to none may God continue to bless both of you and your family's outstanding work.
Hey Ken, I really love how proficient and fast you all work. A really professional job. Great work.

Thanks! For the video. Dan and Chad sure work good together. Guess they have worked together for awhile.
Thanks for watching. They sure do

One of the best videos I'd watch indeed!!
Great content. Really like the detail on cost and work breakdowns.
Thanks for watching

Good crew! Good job Ken!
great video!! really enjoyed watching and hearing your tips throughout!
Thanks
That big guy is such a great resource to have in this build. I wish I could lift and reach as much as he can.
Yes for sure
something so inherently comforting about watching a shelter being built (home)
Cool

Loved the video. You guys do excellent work and the building was priced well. Happy New Year!
Thanks
Thanks for sharing the price, that's always helpful. The Shop Nation fella is building a shed, a nice shed, but I bet he'll have $25k in it after it's said and done.
even at the DIY level, it's easy to see that interior finishing, trim, electric, heat can add another $8k to this job.
You make it look so easy! Nice garage Ken
Thanks
enjoy watching again from the master so nice to see your daughter helps you you are amazing carpenter /craftsman

Here, in Connecticut, the crooked contractors would charge, between, 45-60k for the same project. Thanks for being one of the good guys.
Thanks. I bet cost of living down there adds to the cost
Jus tuning in shout out from Hartford Connecticut
yeah in Oklahoma lol! I cant build a birdhouse here in Canada for less than $100 lol.
That said, good job
Wow
Nice! Someday I need to do this to clean out garage and put my motorcycle in!👍

Nice job you guys did😊

Nice video and nice work. Just about exactly what I’m planning to build for myself, but with a carport off the front to park boats, vehicles etc.
Nice
Ken, must be cold in vt giving you time to edit videos. So thanks for this one. Happy holidays to you and your crew.

I see its build on a bank. Id like to do something similar. I would like to build into a side of a bluff and have a walkout basement. Cool building
