Literally everyone and their grandma expected this movie to be a decent flick at best and a cashgrab at worst. Only for it to turn out to be not only one of Dreamworks' best movies *ever* , but a proper masterpiece that's just a straight fun ride from start to finish.
@@StripedTheProtector Not everyone picks up on those details. Since Doug didn't show Perrito saying it, he probably didn't immediately put that together.
You REALLY should have watched the movie before seeing this. Puss in boots the last wish is probably the best animated movie to come out in the last few years. Even now people are discussing the themes and the many hidden aspects to the movie. There is so much to unpack in this film, it is nothing short of a masterpiece.
He acts like the wolf being Death is obvious from the start, but I had simply just thought of him as scary bounty hunter at first and was incredulous to believe, no that's just straight up Death, like the Grim Reaper himself, and I feel like there are plenty of others who thought similarly
To answer your question, Puss didn't really "beat" Death. He even acknowledges that he can't, but that he'll keep fighting for his last life all the same. Death then has his little speech about how Puss changed and proceeds to leave on his own, reminding him that they *will* meet again someday.
The nursery rhyme has a lot of back story and theories to it. You could look up the lore easily on any wiki. In general though the Little Jack Horner rhyme is about greed and opportunism.
9:25 "The skipping frames reminds me of spiderverse." That's no coincidence. Into the Spiderverse is one of the most influential animated films to come out since the first puss movie, and people loved the action in it.
Death is no longer actually scared to me anymore even the theme I'm so sad about that but i guess it's something i don't know i think it's something but I don't know it's hard for me to remember
I think I actually referenced the wolf in one of my analytical comments recently. I gotta say I was a fan of this movie. It was absolutely fantastic. The animation blew me out of the water.
12:45 I don't like that he treats this twist like it's undeserved. Yeah, a lot of people figured it out sooner, but there's also to point out that, watching it after the first time, it's like "F*CK, it's so obvious! They DID left clues here and there, I just didn't pay attention to those because... this movie pulled the rug from your feet." NOBODY expected this movie to be THIS good, even the trailers made it looked cheesy and "yeah, it's just another cartoon, nothing that spectacular. Really." it wasn't like "Spiderman No Way Home" or "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" where you could feel that was only the tip and the best will be exclusively shown in the theaters, it's was a very average trailer, they even spoiled the moral (care for your life like it's the only one you have), showned only Goldie and the Bears as the villains... it's not much that the reveal is "this guy is Death" the most shocking part, is the fact that "Death is a very deep villain... IN PUSS IN BOOTS 2!" that has to shock you.
25:47 Even one Puss's lives says Death was cheating for taking the last life now, and the life who said that was the one which died while cheating in poker.
The reason they were comparing it to Velma qas specifically comparing the panic attack scenes and how a childrens movie did ot better than an adult animated series.
Yea, I could see that being the reason tbqh. Mind you, imho... I don't think Velma failed in that endeavor, completely at least. It's just all around bad, so any half good things are just going to get shit on along with it, frankly. I liked the early psychological scene differences in Velma, early on in the first few episodes still not defending that show....the one scenes where the art style changes drastically. What I loved of this movie... we are 3 mainstream movies, 1 spin-off, numerous specials and shorts, a TV SERIES... and this "he's a jackass that lived like THERE WILL BE a tomorrow" STILL HOLDS. He is not as pompous (he was in the TV series tho), sure, but in the other media he is fighting like there will be tomorrow, because in his case there is. THIS is not easy to achieve with THIS MUCH on the shoulders. Even the best of the bests still has to retcon on minor things with such setups (example: in one of the first stories of Lucky Luke, he faces against the real and historical Dalton Gang but they are all killed at the end of the story. MANY YEARS LATER. Emmett Dalton, the gang leader is still alive "Didn't we bury him, like, in the FOURTH comic?" Yeah but I discovered that in real life, he actually survived that ambush, so... let's abuse this historical oversight the original creators made).
I love the age of animated movies that we live in. We’re kinda marred by the amount of movies that act as cash grabs, and not really understanding what makes it so good. I watched this movie and felt really similar to Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse because I not only love the art style but because they wear its sincerity on its sleeve. It never feels cheap and any emotional moments feel genuine. Plus the humor doesn’t feel dumbed down to kids. I genuinely can laugh and not groan anytime someone makes poop or fart jokes. Movies like this feel like animated movies aren’t just a dumb medium for kids, it can be fun for the adults as well.
I took my niece to see this movie without knowing anything about it. I was surprised at how good it was and definitely recommend watching it, eventually after you've forgotten all the spoilers from the review lol.
