- In this video I talk the good and the not so good about Omega's recent Speedmaster 321 reveal. Yes it is expensive, and there are exciting elements to the announcement. Let me know what you think! Check it out the details here-

Makes me really glad I picked up a Professional for 3.5k
I’m fine with my professional too plus I love the hesalite!
#metoo
This is just the start! Wait for the ceramic versions with all the colors of the rainbow! Omega is just getting started!!!
the retail price is a result of the over head to remanufacture the movement, and the fact that they hand make 1000 a year, with 8 watch makers dedicated to making them... it's a bargain, as the market seems to feel since they're selling for $22K+ in this crashing watch market.
Thanks to Omega for reviving the 321. A beautiful movement with an outstanding history. I agree with Bruce about the lume, but I can get by that. The price -- not sure. Thanks for a great review.
totally agree with you here on the 2 points. 4 digit price and white lume.
I don't think its overpriced but for my wallet it is.
I agree with tan lume. I have two watches with it. I’m over it and don’t want any more. The bracelet is awesome looking I’d love to see that bracelet option over the 5 link offered on the pro today.
Omega doesn't want to a disservice to the people who bought the platinum version . . . all 3 of them
Killer Speedy. It’ll join the ranks of crazy expensive Speedy Tuesday LE, Tin Tin, Ultra Man lore. I’m happy with my 1863 mvmt sapphire sandwich.
$14K is not reasonable! It’s insane and how they can valid three times incremental price from the regular 1861 movement? Omega is stepping in Daytona territory. I cannot complain about the perfect watch they launched. Ty for the great review!
14k price was Royal Oak territory not too long ago, and still not too far from it at retail. Swatch has their head in the sand.
I really like what omega is doing recently, loved the new seamaster 300m a year ago and now this watch. I’ll most likely buy one, the movement looks great. I wish it was $10k instead of $14k but I’m still strongly considering it, waiting to see it in person first. Hopefully the nyc boutique gets one soon.
The 321 cam chronograph movement is the been to the moon movement that collector's fall over themselves to own. However, I recently found out that the cam was prone to falling off, and the servicing costs were astronomical. The 861 movement that replaced it (& the current 1861 that followed) rectified both these issues. I suppose anyone who can afford to pay list on this won't be too worried about such things.
Marky Mark357. Exactly! But i think they fixed this 321 also. So its not really a true 321. It has been modified. It basically is a 1861 with a cam system and gold plated.
Great video, Bruce. Omega’s new strategy? Instead of creating exclusivity through a limited number of timepieces, Omega is creating exclusivity through pricing. The newest 007 SMP and now this 321 have that in common: not a numbered edition but a surprisingly high price tag
From my point of view they want to strengthen the perception of their Speedmaster line and increase sales of the regular models. With this model everyone who owns and wears a Speedmaster will now feel more proud about wearing and possessing such a piece.
Hi Bruce, great video! Do you believe they could replace the 1861 with the 3861 in the Speedy pro? I'd love to see that
14k??? an original ed white speedmaster you can find for 10K......by the way I really love this version, but not the double pusher clasp.....
14 grand it must be solid white gold. That's the only way it would be worth it. Rolex and omega are laughing at us, all the way to the bank.
Hey Bruce thanks for posting your thoughts. It is an intriguing release.
I for one have had a few Speedmasters and I think I thought about them too much and am over them. Haha. It is nice to get a 321 new and not have to deal with the vintage market and the many hucksters, shysters etc.
If I could start all over I'd get the new 321. But alas I am burned out.
Take care man,
Michael
PS: the price sucks. Period.
They won't make more than 2000 cal.321 annually. So they don't need to lower the price to sell more.
Great comment!
One of the few complaints from the Gemini and Apollo astronauts when they were evaluating the Speedmaster was the tendency to catch the pushers on items in the spacecraft and bend or break the pusher stem. Even though the first generation of NASA-issued watches were still worn into space, it was greatly appreciated when the model with the crown guards -- the ones that went to the moon -- came into use. This 321 will expose the owners to similar fragility, I I believe. Not that many of them will see daily tool-watch duty at this price. This is a collector's piece and of course Omega will sell out of them almost immediately.
Nice looking watch and movement. But 14K is a total joke! I the 321 at least hacking now?
While I appreciate the historical accuracy, I'll keep the twisted lugs of my speedy, which adds just that touch of elegance to an otherwise tool watch design. Perhaps the nutty price of this new one, especially if they discontinue some of the older models, will even help mine retain value?
I wouldn't change a thing. It's perfect to me...including the softness of the lume (nearly matching the look of the original Ed White) and the overall dimensions. In particular I like the Omega label/branding which is spot on and that bracelet is absolutely stunning! Not much needs to be said about the 321 that hasn't been said already... Call me crazy...people can complain about the price but I think $14k is the best price you'll ever pay for this and you're only going to pay more later on the secondary. I'd pay $14k for this instead of $25k for a Snoopy. It'll be in demand and although it's not "limited" it actually is with that movement. We're never going to get an an affordable 321 in SS. This is it.
Would to suggest buying the 1861 or wait for the 3861?
Not overpriced for the amount of units produced (2000) world wide market. If they sell out you can order one and wait 4-6 months. You will get one way before a Rolex. Plus you won’t see these 321 Speedy’s everywhere. Omega can’t make a watch too perfect. I doubt they will make an exact modern version of a 42mm 321 in steel. If they do it will be a limited edition but the purists would want a perfect Speedy. 321 movement, closed caseback, hesalite crystal, 3 link bracelet that tapers you 16mm, standard super lume, modern dial.
Omega watches are timeless and they looks nice on every wrist. Another great video!
Its hand assembled buy ONE watch maker from start to finish
I don't want to criticize Omega pricing strategy. Given that many Speedy special, limited editions cost less than this Calibre 321 version. I think around 9k would gain more market acceptance.
The watch is beautiful
Q.) Overpriced? A.) Yes; as long as the sapphire sandwich version is still readily available for ~$4,000.
I have a feeling it won't stay that way for long
Gorgeous, yes. But grossly overpriced and all the rich cats I know who can afford it have told me they have zero intention of spending so much money.
I don't think any real rich people would say 14k is "much money".
Why not. Did they explain?
It's Time just spoken with my local (central London) Omega AD to discuss this watch and he’s confirmed they’ve been swamped with people wanting to get on the wait list: crazy reaction. It’ll sell. Big time.
My dream watch
At $14,100 this watch is now a competitor for a Daytona which starts at $12,400 (retail). I know you can't get one and all that but that's besides the point. You can find a really decent Ed White from the 60s' that isn't a remake and has actually seen some sh*t, has creamy patina and will appreciate even more through the next few years. The Daytona (if you could get one) is arguably just a better watch for this kind of money. Then again if you're spending $14k on a speedy you might as well have a Daytona already.
Really cool watch, good to see the cal.321 back, but that price is a bit steep.
You can't appreciate cal.4130 unless you open the case back. For me Daytona will never be my choice of chronographs because I want them for enjoying the complexity of the mechanical structures and finishing, not for timing something nor as an investment.
Kind off in shock... I think ill just get a black Sinn 104....😎
Not gonna lie, it's a beauty like any Speedie. But frankly if it costs as much as a good-condition 1960's 105.012 or 145.012, I'll pick an original 321 over this any day. What I'd have loved Omega to do is reissue the 321 in its standard Moonwatch (in lieu of, or alongside the 1861) for the same $5k-6k price tag.
Omega..my dream watch😓
Love my sapphire sandwich and may have to own this one!
ill take the standard professional moon watch
Love it!
And a daytona steel going for $40k in the grey market and no one complains.
Thanx for the vid, good job Bruce as always. I have a question. Omega is going to be a player for many years to come. When are they going to give us this movement in the 42mm case in SS. That’s what we all want.
Honestly I don't think they will. I have a feeling they will keep the 321 in more 'exclusive' models and editions. As I understand it is not assembled with automation and until they do that we will never get it given how many ss professional they sell on a yearly basis. I would imagine we would get a new 'co-axial' metas chrono in a updated 42mm standard production speedmaster before we would see a 321.
@@BruceWilliams No doubt they will update the moonwatch with cal.3861 and that's their mainstream product, not this cal.321 revival.
@@leyay7540 I need to get the sapphire sandwich next then... Before it's axed for good
$14k+ is a joke price. Maybe if the movement was solid Sedna gold instead of plated... but probably not even then. The fake patina is completely unnecessary too.
14K is too much and I'm also not a huge fan of the patina lume. But no matter what we think they'll sell.
The color of radium?! Omega stopped using radium around 1963. The color you are referring to is tritium. Even when new tritium was beige in color, not white. The faux lume you refer to is the actual color of the original indices. This dial is accurate looking.
While I agree the price is a bit excessive, but didn’t Bruce say there is gold in the caliber that would drive the cost up?
The problem here is not the price..it’s how much money we have 🤣.
Beautiful watch, but for 14k there are others watches I would rather have. Besides I have my Speedmaster reduced and I got that for 2000. I can see the appeal though, it looks fantastic.
Omega have to hand assemble each movement . It is obviously not a movement they think is worth mass producing which will require a large investment. Although the price is high Omega have obviously priced it to balance the supply numbers they are able to produce.
Great point here
I love it but definitely not buying it at cost more than a daytona retail
Stopped watching at 14k... unattainable
Good review.price-sub 10k would have made this a perfect buy.Love the watch though❤️
That watch is not worth that amount they are crazy.
I like the watch but not the price. IMO it is over priced.
My guess is Omega delibrately priced it high so that their low supply of cal 321 will not be over strech and also to set it apart from the regular speedies. You can say this is a high end speedmaster 😁
this is the speedy I want!
The faux lume ruined the watch (and the price point is absurd).
These "first Omega in space" case shapes are too top heavy. The thinkness is a deal breaker for me.
Basically I like the watch. But for me it's to "neo vintage". Even "hipster vintage" I would say if you understand what I mean. And the price... just ridiculous. I mean, seriously. The movement isn't worth that price increase by NO means. So I will definitely pass on this one and enjoy my current gen Speedy Pro.
Think it is a beautiful watch and an amazing movement but I will not buy one I will buy at $14K. I don't have a problem with the price though - Omega will sell as many of these as they can produce and I don't have a problem with Omega making a profit instead of the resellers...but I do wish the price was lower :)
The SPM prof with sapphire is $8k, so no way this was going to be sub $10K
14k No way watch standard from competitors is to high to justify this price point and I'm not even sad about it.
I will wait for caliber 3861 ....
Omega hasn’t used radium since 1967 on speedmaster dials, and yet you say the Ed white uses radium Where did you hear this
Is the 321 cal. Hackable?
Overpriced! End of.....!
too many special editions dilute the effect.
Never ever gonna pay that retail
Omega Speedmaster Racing for me, 2175$ with Longines based chrono movement, it has a column wheel, Si14 co-axial, feature rich entry level Omega
$14,000 makes it unattainable for me. The watch is beautiful, but......💔
con ese precio me compro un original 1968 , 4ht generacion de Speedmaster
With tax, that's just over 20 thousand Canadian dollars. Crazy. What can I buy on the used market for that money?
A car lol
That works out to be a little over 20k Australian.
Great watch but way overpriced! 6k at best!
Is it just me or does the 1863 just look better?..... totally unimpressed sorry to say. It's a NICE watch but for me anyways it's not great and no way worth the price tag. I will stick to the sapphire sandwich, still the best version of the moonwatch (in my opinion at least).
Lol and swatch reported very low exports last year. Horrible move at $14.1k
Lume is definitely too dark.
I don’t really think it offers enough to justify its price. Is it great looking? Sure! Is it worth $9K more than the MOTM? Nope.
I'll be interested when it has hesalite and (perhaps paradoxically) a solid caseback.
Omega is just being greedy. They have the blueprints is this watch, just take em out n re-make it. That's all. It's not anything new. Just buy the vintage version of the speedy 321. It's more affordable!
OMG I LOVE the bracelet.... I want just the bracelet......
B M Yes! On my FOIS, it would look amazing!
Lol the price is ridiculous, and fauxtina kills they look.
At $14.1K, there are lot of other choices. I feel, after the honeymoon period is over and all the die hard fan have bought it, you will see this watch in the used market or grey market, at much lower price. This watch looks very similar to the standard moon watch from the outside, so one cannot justify spending 3 times as much. Now if they had taken the platinum version and released it in steel and without the fancy meteoroid subdail then yes!
Like it but it’s definitely overpriced . I’d rather have my speedy pro that cost 3.2 k £
Way too expensive for a steel omega. This will not work for omega.
Very expensive. No way.
тоже тут с апвоута?
NATO strap feels so wrong (to me) on this watch.
I like Omega however I don’t think they are in the class of other watches in that price point and they tank interns of resale. Like it but my money would be on something else with less depreciation.
14k ! ... no thanks!
A Tissot look alike...
13K …………………………………………….. !!!!!!!!!! I will just keep my Speedy MOTM and my Schumacher Speedy
I really don't get why everyone is so excited to get what is essentially a 50 year old movement design. Isn't there current movement essentially an improves 321? It is a beautiful watch though.
A Tissot V8 chronograph look alike
$14,000? For what?
13.2k crazy shit way overpriced
Way overpriced, such a shame.
I like everything about it except the faux Tina.
I don’t like the ceramic bezel
Why?
Soligen Music because it’s a vintage style watch it should have a vintage style aluminum bezel
