  • Jesse Owens Wins 100m Olympic Gold in front of Hitler at 1936 Olympics. Jesse Owens was an American track and field athlete who won international fame by winning 4 gold medals at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany. These Olympics were especially significant because Adolf Hitler was using the the games to show the world a revival of Nazi Germany.
At the time, African-Americans were denied equal rights in many parts of the United States. Owens went on to say: "Hitler didn't snub me -- it was FDR who snubbed me. The president didn't even send me a telegram."

The proven stride length x stride frequency = speed philosophy also wasn't discovered back then, they believed in freqency over length which is outdated. I think Jesse would run 9.7x today

Jesse Owens was upset with the fact he was treated better in NAZI Germany than in the US, He was not discriminated at all while in Germany but treated as an equal yet considered a 2nd class citizen on his return to America.
Owens himself said he was acknowledge by Hitler after the 100meters, that Hitler recognized him and waved.
There are also stories of Black Germans who lived in Germany during WW2 as normal citizens, some even joined the German army.

It's just amazing to see such a mix of all races, genders, ethnicities, and religious denominations coexisting seemingly fine in social events like these so early in the 20th century, yet it took another 30 years for civil rights to lawfully emerge in the US. Throughout human and especially American history, the military and olympic games were very desegregated to an extent before civil rights. It's very bewildering to me that at few events like these, all HUMAN beings were considered equal, but it's only when you go back home that it all gets washed away...

The olympics are a great display of nationalism, each country trying to prove themselves better than the others. Nazi Germany wanted to show the world that the arian race was superior. During the Cold War the USA and the URSS both made a huge effort to beat each other. Nowadays we can see the tension between USA, China and Russia reflect in the olympics as well. From here Berlin invented a revolutionary style of Olympics that had never been done before, the celebration, the participants, the athletes and the spectators all knew exactly what to do to present a great image of the Germany sport. Carrying the torch, arranging the masses, the forms that the masses used to perform during the parades, is a truly artistic masterpiece. After this Olympics, the rest of the countries began to imitate the Berlin celebrations, to what we have reached today.

This video really shows how media can be altered for purposes of propaganda. They mention the fifth place medalist, going to Germany’s ally of the time, but skip over Maria Kwasniewska, the bronze place medalist representing Poland. Maria actually stood up to Hitler after he mocked her stature and country. Note that she isn’t gesturing in the photograph, either. The fourth place is Austria, Hitler’s own country of origin.

"Jesse" Owens didn't "equal the world record time" with his 10.3 second race in the Olympic 100 meter final in 1936 - the record stood at 10.2 s and was set by Owens...
    2. The 10.3 s race was wind-aided...
