- First Essex, Ex-First London (33562) taken from 0 - 60mph with Full Kickdown!
Here we have the quite unpopular pairing of a 6-Speed ZF Ecomat gearbox with a Euro 4 Cummins ISBe6.7 engine in an Enviro 400! You'd usually find an E400 with 6 Gears to have an Ecolife gearbox, but this isn't the case! As you will be able to hear, the revs are noticeably higher, because the throttle was being pumped which causes the gearbox to hold! There was a slight incline on the A13, meaning we were a bit slow on the top end, but then the road levelled out again + a slight downhill, allowing us to hit 60 on the dot! Such beasts these are, I tell you!

Enjoy!
That is music to my ears! Loving the fact that it was getting throttle pumped which let out all the noises, and the driver never held back which was the best part! Great catch mate!
Thanks a lot! Indeed bro, really let the beast out of it!
The revs are amazing. I’ve never heard of a trident with a 6th gear but this sounds like a beast. I need to try this out sometime
They are indeed!
It does well to shift 12 tonnes of metal. Not bad for an engine that's originally intended for pick up trucks, 7.5t lorries etc.
Now I see 👀 why a lot of Bus companies buy buses from ADL back in the early 20's and late 19's when they made the ALX400 to the ADL Enviro 400.
Great video. ☺️
I never knew ZF E400 Tridents had a 6th gear... It must take a lot of power to reach that... This is a hard W and more. 👌🏾👊🏾
Not all of them do, as far as I know this batch is the only batch! Thank you!✊🏾
Ex London Euro 4 tridents always had some hidden talent!
Hundred percent, I remember when these did all the route near Rainham and other NP routes like 191 and 231, proper throwback
sounds like our hilux at home LOL
One of the best buses when it was based in Weston, used frequently on the X1 for this reason
Didn’t know these used to be in Weston, interesting! But yeah I can see why they used this 👌🏾
Wow a 6 speed Ecomat in a Trident, never knew they existed! If only they made 6 speed Ecomats to go with an 8.3L Trident 👌
Yeahh very rare, might even be the only batch with a 6 Speed! That would’ve been amazing, 8.3L ZF Tridents with 5 gears just weren’t enough! Do you still drive? I loved your videos, especially the two GAL E400s 💙
@@Frozzles Sorry to butt in i've been on a few 5 speed ZF 8.3 Trident's and they're screaming at 50mph. Different on 4 speed Voith ones though as they're happy at 50mph plus.
@@Frozzles I do still drive bud yeah, but for National Express now 😊
Ohh ok, that’s good! Coaches I’m guessing?
@@Frozzles Yes mate, it’s not as fun as going full send in an old E400 but it pays better 😂
What a Beast, Great Kickdown :)
Indeed it is, proper beast!
@@Frozzles Yeah man :)
Why wasn't more 6 speed ZF Euro 4 Trident's made?
Not sure myself mate, I think it’s to do with the operator choice
Enviro 400's must have been the last bus with hub reduction back axles.
Interesting, a 6 speed trident E400
Indeed😌
I wish we had 6-speed London Buses from 2000 onwards.
When did it hit 6th, I couldn’t seem to hear it
You’re not the only person that’s said this. Wear some headphones I’d say, and listen for the change at 00:43
Wow
😎
Was this originally a 6-speed or was it retrofitted because I never knew tridents could have a 6-speed gearbox
I’ve actually got no certain clue mate, sorry
I feel like they were retrofitted. Because the SN58s (ENs) that are in the GAL commercial fleet are al 5-speed so I’ve got a feeling Basildon did retrofit them for the roads they’d use… constant high speed and whatnot, 6th gear allowing the engine to rev low in 6th at high speed, extends the life of the engine really
@@Frozzles but that could also be quite unhealthy for the engine for high ranges at such low rpm
It's not unhealthy, the engine is working less harder when it's revving lower
The RPM isn't too low, it's at a comfortable RPM
@@Frozzles ok makes sence I didn't know the Cummins 6.7L was powerful enough for 6 speeds I'm quite impressed
@@T_vEg Yeah, the gears in a gearbox doesn’t relate to horsepower
That’s why you see the newer E200s and all E200 Allisons using a 6-Speed gearbox, and they’ve got only 180hp
You can do a bit of research about this 👍🏾
😍😍😍
W machinery!
I knew there was a 6 speed trident out there
Yep
Full video!!!
Soon! 😎
Seen it and it’s 🔥🔥
They don't build newer buses to kick like they used to, but they could if they wanted to. :/
IKR!
They could, but gotta take into account fuel consumption and emmisons
Emissions standards
