Nice review Paul. Definitely one to add to my stash as the I-16 is a very important type historically. One note (leaned this watching a Russian made doco in Russian WW2 fighters) The Designation of any aircraft was to Use the Letter(s) as a word. Eg" The I-16 was the "Ee Sixteen) and the Lavochhkin La 5 was the "Lah Five" the LaGG 3 was the "Lag three" and this applied across the board in the VVS (Soviet Air Force.) The little GP Biplane was the "Poe two", the Heavy twin fighter was the "Pee Three" and the heavy Bomber was the "Pee eight"(And you can stop giggling about that one!) The famous Sturmovik was the "ILL two" By the bye, here in NZ the warbirds people at Wanaka have restore FIVE I-16s and an I-153 over the past few years, mostly for foreign buyers, but at least one is still flying there. The pilots describe them as "interesting" to fly... (as in the old chinese curse about living in "Interesting" times!) A large part of the fuselage was wood, Btw.

Also known as the "Rata" (during the Spanish civil war) very cool that we can now have one in 1/32 which really helps with details as it's so small to begin with. I've got this little guy in 1/72 so I'll be looking to pick this kit up as well. Thanks for another great review Paul !

Also known as the "Mosca" (Spanish for Fly (as in insect) by the Spanish and German pilots in Spain.)

    Paul,
Please slow down and take a little pause between words. You have the intellect and huge knowledge to guide and inform... now slow down. Trust me on this that it will help in your ISM endeavors. Love the video because I'll be building one soon. Thank you for taking the time to post this.

Hi Paul thanks for the review. Small yes but big in stature. All the best see you and the live crew tomorrow night.

Nice one Paul. There are some great schemes for this plane in the Allied Fighters magazine (designs by Claes Sundin). You would do a great job of a Leningrad front winter scheme

I know this is 2 years old, but this variant i16 does not have flaperons, the flaps are on the fuselage behind the wheel well, and extend most of the way to where the ailerons start. Only the early versions had flaperons.

It's small, dumpy and ugly - I love it! Good review as ever keep up the good work! :)

I-16 was called 'Donkey' not because this plane was shitty. It is the subject of russian langauge: first two sounds of the 'I-16' name in Russian are the same as in short word 'donkey' (also in Russian). That is why russian pilots fondly called this plane ''eeshaak''.

When they make the I-16 in 1/16 scale to go with the Trumpeter 1/16 scale Pilot I will buy it no matter the cost!!

ive got four tubes of very large aircraft prints from 'warplane' magazine. They are by Kieth fretwell.I wondered if you would be interested in a swop for any unwanted armour kits or anything else for them.Ive only looked in 1 tube and its all the iconic helicopters and jets.I want to find them a good home and maybe find some unwanted plastic to assemble.
