As a skinny undersized, ball dominant guard coming out of high school, Monta Ellis was never supposed to have a career like he did. I consider that a success
Infinity Mixtapes I strongly agree ✊🏾💯
Great point! he was the 40th pick in his draft and was way more successful than most of the guys drafted ahead of him
Yeah but he was 20 years old coming out of high school.
@@datchocolatedude-He was 20 years old coming out of high school though. Guys these days come out of college at 19.
yep, always thought he would be benched and be out of the league within 3 years but he made it.
Real Warrior fans recognize Monta for giving us a reason to keep watching the games even tho we sucked.
ROE JOGAN DMT APOCALYPSE David Lee?😂
Monta was my favorite player, I have a old Jersey of his when he was on the warriors
Andris Biedrins
That's how it was with Rondo on the "rebuilding" Celtics
That means a lot especially since he's my cousin thanks bro
Monta Ellis was a success story...dude went straight from high school to the NBA out of Mississippi.
dude he getting paid by Pacers while he's not playing with them until like 2020. Shit what's his secret
Making it out of Mississippi is a dream but making it out of Jackson Mississippi is a miracle

A 6’2 guard from Jackson Mississippi went straight 2 the NBA from Lanier High School started in the league, played 10 plus seasons and made Millions of dollars. “What happened 2 Monta Ellis?” Answer: A damn good Career A damn good Life.🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Jack Spades dude was a scrub. So glad they got rid of him for curry. I remember people were mad hahaha what a joke.
Wat happened 2 yo career
@@thanosbustedinyourmum you sound stupid .
People expect everybody to be Michael Jordon or their career was wasted...
At the age of 20.
Wth is wrong with y'all. He was in the league 12 yrs lol. What happened to his career??? Anybody who get 12 yrs in the league succeeded as far as I'm concerned
Marcus Allen 💯
I agree
Marcus Allen for real they trippin
Marcus Allen true but Monte had a disappointing career given the raw talent he had.
Now he's been largely forgotten
Marcus Allen because we live in a society where you always have to validate yourself.. when one 1championship then u have to when another it's never enough
Monta, man. I remember he had an all star season back in 2011. I thought he was gonna make it for sure. Now he is out of the league
kevin mao okc need him off the bench
MTS 3 baby pelicans aren't contenders, they don't need him
MTS 3 baby 1st round exit, let's not try to sugarcoat it
MTS 3 baby good luck then
MTS 3 baby already what
He was always one of my favorite players when he was on the mavs, wont ever forget his insane 360 layup against the nets!
Yes, Monta was great his first 1,5 years with the Mavs! Was sad to see him go, but apparently it didn't go so well anymore behind the scenes!
Yah what happened him? He was very good oh well,so many WARRIORS in and go in this org. I remembered Latel Spreewel choked coach Carlissimo His neck is all red! Now,love Curry after so many years , he's the only one who delivered. The first batch like, Bogut,Barnes, barbosa etc are great?!! They had just a few lost!
Like to thank ellis for his years with the mavs, that 2013 playoffs was the last time the mavs were relevant on the NBA stage. Only team to take the NBA champion spurs to a game 7 that year and mostly thanks to a real good manta Ellis effort
OverLordthe 1st thats 2014 dude
yea because mavs were shit in 2011..
Monta was good but that was a total team effort from the mavs. Everybody balled out but the spurs were destined to win
No, but they were shit the next 2 years homie.
He said the LAST time. The MOST RECENT. What's wrong with you?
He had a pretty good career considering he was a small guard straight out of high school drafted in the 2nd round he had better career then guys in the lottery like Telfair
A "small" gaurd? He's above the average height...
Quantum Leap not for guards coming straight out of hs hes small most all the guards tooken are 6'5 to 6'8 at 6'6 kobe was the shortest ever in the lottery till Telfair most of the players drafted to nba from high school are all above 6'6 monta is the second shortest behind Telfair which was 5'11 tops
Quantum Leap Monta is a SG and 6'3 185 lbs is really small for a SG
Ok
he's really like 6'1. 6'3 is generous as fuck
He had a solid career. But he'll always be linked to the man who changed the NBA
Solid NBA career. 17ppg on 45% shooting. Not really hall of fame, but definitely respectable.
Alvin Elmore I love monta but those can be look at some of the dudes in the HOF
Lol this dude would never be in the hof
Naw, hes not hall of fame Material. But a solid player.
@@hibachi2014 Yeah, guys from 30-40 years ago. Respect but we can't be putting these above average types in the hall.
ik ima ellis fan also so my opinion is bias
A hometown hero here in Mississippi still....
EntreproJodie Love Jackson
ItsJustJodie Love I went to his high school. Even seen him a few times there but I was from Michigan An did not know the hype he had till I got back to Michigan an been rocking with him since. Jackson ms. Stand up
@@demikohartfield99 that's what's up Lanier huh....i was at Provine
@@JuicePrime indeed
ItsJustJodie Love yea I liked it down there. I almost went there too but Lanier was closer. Georgetown area
Bro I was just thinking about this lol good look. Montae was a scoring beast tho mid range and to the rim
Underrated player
The problem was his ball-dominant low efficiency playstyle. He needed a ton of shots to get those points, didn't make his teammates better, needed the ball in his hands to be effective, and was undersized for a shooting guard while unable to direct offenses as a point guard. Does anyone have a 6'3" shooting guard these days?
And interestingly, Curry is the main culprit for kicking Monta out of the league, not for getting him traded from the Warriors, but for making his game obsolete and undesirable. Teams now want tall, long-armed, three-point wings that can defend and work off the ball. Monta has none of those. And Klay is all of those.
I remember watching that Chris Mullins retirement ceremony and hearing the fans boo the GM and then he said” good is gonna come out of this” and then they went to the finals and won.
My brother and I were just talking about Monta Ellis the other day. It’s a shame that the guy is out of an NBA job right now. You’re right. If he wants to make a comeback to the NBA, he’ll have to improve his 3 point shot and learn how to play without the ball. Great video man!
Kanard Green Kiki
Kanard Green Yes good explain and his Speed and Driving gos down fast and he never changed his game, no 3 no finishing more at the rim and no defense and need everytime the Ball to be efficient so no seat in this NBA ! Incredible the way from Ellis and Curry and they asked 2010 who is the future for the Warriors Team! ! 7 Years later Curry MVP 2 time Champion 3 Point King and Ellis out of the Business!
Andy Erm I remember in high school my friends and I debated if the Warriors made a mistake by trading him to the Bucks. Obviously, I thought the Warriors made the right move even then. Didn’t think Steph would turn out the way to be this great though. Amazing what can happen in 7 years. Completely agree with you!
Kanard Green Yeah its incredible sometimes but the Sports/NBA is never standing still and the game changed every time and fast (The biggest change off course are the Stretch 4,5 and Simmons Antetokounmpo who are 3,4 and play like a 1,2 ballhandling with Forward Size D.Green on 5 and so on) Maybe in a few Years we see Videos here whats happens to LeBron,KD,Curry,Green,Westbrook or some others in this Moment Superstars!
Andy Erm This is very true! This is why I love sports/NBA so much. All kinds of different athletes who are trying to make their own mark on the league as we know it. I’m looking forward to seeing what our current stars in the league and future stars look like from years now.
Say what you want but when he was with the Warriors before Steph and early in Steph's career Monta was the go to guy. He brought it every night. He went right at all the big name guys when the rest of the team was visibly intimidated. Still got his jersey and he's still one of my favorite all time players.
Monta Ellis made me a fan of the nba again. I was an on and off again fan of NBA. But in high school I played nba2k10 and loved the warriors because of monta ellis. Monta will go down as one of my favorite player of all time. Amazing althelte and a good guy overall.
Title makes it seem like monta Didn’t have a great career... he’s got a lot of miles on his body but most importantly he got financial stability and a family... where he came from he made it.. not everybody plays til they’re 35-40
This dude averaged 17 points and 5 assist over a 12 year career and y’all act like he “didn’t make it” lmao! He aged and a new era of talent replaced him.. its called retiring
Chris Miller real talk!
Dude!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris Miller yeah and Larry bird only play 13 seasons
I know you're a fan but the point of this video is not to disparage him, but trying to figure out why he's out of the league while he should be at the end of his prime. Not the end of his career. He also didn't retire and he's not old. As I said, 32-33 is the end of your prime.
@Albert Douglas-Exactly.
Monta Ellis was just below all star level in the NBA, but what I will always remember him for was how ridiculous he was in the old 2K My Careers.
2K12 Monta is the most unguardable player in 2K history
Swear to god championships back to back
No my good friend that Title belongs to derrick rose
Then Monta ellis
o hh
I have always liked Monte. I moved back to Oakland in 2011. He was very popular. I didn’t know why they traded him. Where ever he goes he makes that team shine. Great times in the future. Wish u success.
Great player... used to be one of my favorites... great video man
Elliott Stevens
“Monta Ellis have it all” - fav quote from him
Monta Ellis used to be my favorite player
daniel Ramirez me 2
Month Ellis was entertaining to watch. Even though what he did, he never got an all star. It’s kind of sad though seeing one of my favorite players being gone.
I remember Monta's career kinda went left when he publicly said in a interview he was just as good if not better then Wade. Then after the trade to Dallas & Indiana it all slowly went down hill. Shame he didn't make not one All Star but understandable with how stacked the west has always been with Talent. Still.....I bet he could be a Lou (Sweet Lou) Williams off the bench for a team. LOVE The Channel!!!!! Keep up the Grand Work
Ghost In The Machine you forgot he was on the bucks with jennings
I remember Wade was shooting 54% averaging 21ppg that year while Ellis was averaging 19 shooting like 42% lmao
To think that in 2017 they're both not in the league right now smh!
Ghost In The Machine he was good with the mavericks. The big problem he had was when he was with the pacers. The thing that officially killed him was how horrible he was against Cleveland this past season
Monta is one of my favorite players of all time always been underrated but I get it his last couple of seasons were bad but when you looked at the fact he had alot of mileage on his body all those min honestly I wouldn't mind him going to the warriors just as a role player to get a ring I just don't understand how is he out the league but then again NBA never cared for him the guy never went to a all-star game
He a smaller guard who relied on his speed. He simply got slower and older, that's what happened.
YaBoi Rob He says that in the end of the video
Tanish Ravioli I know, that's why I said it. Saves you 8mins. I had expected something that not many people knew.
YaBoi Rob Oh lol ok

YaBoi Rob spoiler alert
Warriors fans be like “Who’s Monta Ellis?”
juanharrybear
Most warriors fans probably dont know who Wilt chamberlain, Chris Mullen or Tim Hardaway are since they got on that bandwagon in 2015
juanharrybear most warriors fans dont even know the great mookie blaylock played for them
Fans in 2015 😂
Most Warriors fans know who he is. To be honest, most of these generalizations about bandwagon Warriors fans aren't true, as long as you don't count people who just casually wear jersey's without knowing what the player on the jersey looks like.
Been a fan since 2010 I remember Dorell wright had the franchise record for threes in a season with like 190 I think but that only lasted for a couple seasons
Everytime I play 2K MyLeague or MyGM I always pick up Monta Ellis as a free agent because I think he deserves a spot on any team in the NBA, he could be a great role player coming off the bench.
Warriors had to make a choice; Build around a proven star or
Trade him for a role-player to help the growth of Steph and Klay
Who still remembers monta Ellis in the warriors
i asked myself the same question yesterday no lie
I feel like someone will pick him up. I pray so man. I'm from jackson Mississippi! I met him multiple times. (Thanks to my dad) this was when he was in high school and right before he went to the NBA. Definitely the greatest high school athlete to come out of Mississippi ever! That's why he came straight out of high school to the NBA. I remember they played this one team in high school and monta scored 69 against them and then next time he played that same team same season... he scored 72. I was at one of those games and it was crazy! They were down by soo much that everyone just pretty much knew it was over half the gym had left... except the true monta believers! (Including my family) and they made a crazy comeback To win thanks to monta dropping 69 or 72 that game. You can look up this little news story they did on it, on RUclips. And don't make fun of how country we are in Mississippi when ya watch it! 😂
He's not the greatest but he's in the discussion with Chris Jackson. Never forget that. Mahmoud Abdul Rauf is still hooping at 50 and he's still a baller.
That high school game you talking about may have been mine. GENTRY HIGH.. game was crazy..
Life long Pacers fan here reminding you Monta Ellis is getting paid by Indiana until 2022. Yikes.
Indyfan45 why
He's under contact thats why
I see him at the gyms here in Indy. Guess he's got nothing better to do now...
He’s the real finesse kid
Nothing like guaranteed contracts. The NFL dreams of that...
I really liked this guy as a kid. Tbh he was my generations Allen Iverson. They played so much a like and no one really mentions that. Dude was a absolute bucket when he was on! He sure did have some rough games when he was off too though lol. Gotta say he’s still one of my favorite players though
Lemme give you a list: Andris Biedriņš, Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, JJ Hickson, Jason Thompson, Ben Gordon, OJ Mayo, Daniel Gibson, Delonte West, Carl Landry, Al Thornton
he's one of those unique guards that got disrespected by the NBA ... he stayed mum when they villianized him for no reason ... I remember watching a game last season & commentators talked so much trash because he gave up on shooting 3s & looking for a better shot ... If you look at one of currys interview he said he loved playing with monta but the management decided to break them "excuse was to give curry the green light"
I remember those days. I am a OG Dubs fan.
Monta is one of the greatest ball.players to come out of Jackson, MS!!! We still love him and will always remain proud of him.
That GD handshake in the beginning tho 0:09
The warriors would not have won a championship without Andrew Bogut
Emmanuel Ontiveros true
Emmanuel Ontiveros imo they wouldve won in 2016 too if he hadnt gotten injured
Rack MC, yes I don’t mean no disrespect to curry they lost him to few games that year in the playoffs but they were able to bounce back because they had a decent backup guard. Losing bogut was a bigger loss because they had no decent backup center.
Emmanuel Ontiveros True Ezeli was trash
Alex Lozano, yes
I want monta Ellis back
Second best player in the league- Lmao, tf back in 2010 there was Wade, Dwight, Melo, Chris Paul, Nash, Rose, Bosh, Rondo all in their prime. Not to mention scoring champion KD and MVP Lebron. This man ego led to his downfall
Matt T exactly
True
Matt T Facts that's exactly what I thought 2010? 2nd best?Probably not in my top ten!
The only way to be successful is to think u the best on the court cant go out there saying in your head this guy better than me .
lilSwagg201 Almighty__royce I have no problem if he just straight up come out and like “I’m the GOAT” or “I’m the best player in the league”. That’s the necessary mentality. But when he said he’s the 2nd best he turned it into a factual statement which he couldn’t be more wrong
It shows you how having an excellent mid and long range jumper can keep you around the NBA for such a long period of time...The perfect example of that was Ray Allen....
He was a true all star in my eyes. Must watch player. He balled out with dallas, it was so cool seeing the friendship and great play between Dirk and him. I know this doesn't mean too much but dallas did take the champion spurs to 7 games in 2014.
He was a beast in milwaukee
One of the best to ever do it out of high school, and from the bottom of the map Mississippi! Young Beast...And wasn't a bust like many...lived up to and surpassed "the hype". Hell of a career for the Mississippi Boi! Salute 🙌
“What happened to monta Ellis” dude got old. It happens to the best players. He’s a short guard who wasn’t really good at defense and relied on athleticism. Once that goes those type of players are screwed.
wasnt good at defense... lmao he averaged 1.7 steals a game one point in his career XDD
PUASami the steal stat is one of the most misleading stats in the nba imo. Defense isn’t just about playing your guy. It’s about how you move off ball as well. Carmelo Anthony if you watched him when he was in New York he was good at defending his man on the perimeter and in the post but he lacked the off ball awareness to know where his guy was 24/7. So yeah I don’t think monta Ellis ever was anything but an average to below average defender.
This guy is one of the most underrated players in NBA history. Dude was super humble and had pure game.
People dont realize 5-7 years in the NBA is a GOOOOOOOOOD LONG career, anything above that you were definitely special. 3 years is actually the avg . . .
Monta Ellis is one my favorites. I love his motor and street ball style. He seams like a really wholesome dude
Yeah you do need a ty Lawson video too. These are dope btw
Sepand Bandi can’t believe no one signed him this season. He’s playing overseas right now. He had a good season last year with the Kings.
Ty Lawson's problems with alcohol are what caused his downfall
DUI
I remember being so upset about him being traded from the warriors but now it's obvious
A 2nd round pick who came straight out of highschool, led a struggling franchise through it's down years giving fans a reason to watch, had some very respectable seasons as a primary scorer, and earned about $90m in salary over his 12 seasons. Ellis is actually still collecting a yearly salary of $2,245,400 from the Indiana Pacers until the 2021-22 season. That's a damn good career, not everybody can be a superstar, and sometimes the game just evolves and you no longer have a place in the league, Ellis as a small 2 guard who relied on a high volume of shots, iso ball, and who was never a good 3 point shooter just got pushed out of a league that was moving towards 3 point shooting and ball movement.
Dude played 10+ years in the league what you mean what happened?
Monta Ellis & Jason Richardson from the "We Believe" Warriors was my favorite to watch even tho they only made it to the playoffs once in 2007
It's so weird how time changes perspective, during his playing era Allen Iverson type guards were considered the thing to have now I.E: Eliss, Iverson and Steve Francis , Now we're the Steph Curry Damien Lillard Type Guards.
Ellis had pretty good career regardless though
Literally just had this convo a couple days ago. Good looking on the video.
damn i was asking myself where he was yesterday . after they traded him to milwaukee i stopped watching GSW
You stopped watching GSW when they got actually good? Lol
-_- i think that joke went over your head dude
airalert33 lmao I almost did too. Curry back then couldn’t stay healthy and Monta Ellis was tearing it up
Themanhasnoname and you came back watching back in 2014 then you'll stop again when GSW starts to suck?
I guess they knew what they were doing
One of my favorite players ever!! Monta played no defense but he was gangster, the warriors, sixers or Memphis should sign him as a reserve or the cavs or spurs, he should have stayed on Dallas, i think he’ll do great in the cba. Still a talented dude, i can never forget the buzzer beater against Houston or the 45 points he dropped on okc
Great work man right on time!
if a team ever put Monta in the backcourt with a defensive-minded big guard and other talented players, the Monta Ellis narrative would be closer to how A.I. is viewed. Monta pretty much always played on teams that werent built to compensate for him being a small guard. in his days with the Warriors he was an absolute joy to watch and the NBA should have done more to show off one of their most thrilling players of that time.
He is so underrated and should have been an all star way more times, remjnded me of AI
One of the most exciting players I have ever seen on the court
Sound like a decent nba career if you ask me 🤷🏾♂️ I’m sure he’s fine

Loved Monta on the bucks and dude played 12 years he was a success. The real reason he became bad news was that he got older and he was a high volume player but wasn't very efficient. You could say analytics killed homeboy but really he just got older. Either way he played 12 more years in the NBA than I ever did so he deserves some respect.
For real - look for Westbrook to fall apart in a similar fashion and don't forget that guard is the deepest most talented and most athletic spot on any NBA roster.
The Bottom line is versatility as a point guard and shooting guard is what will keep you in this league longer.
The NBA wants more players who are versatile and not one dimensional so that’s a big shift for the NBA over the past 50 years.
And nba wants a more type of European basketball a.k.a. small man basketball which will be the future for the NBA going forward.
blue light
Rondo or Parker can’t shoot worth a damn
A lot can happen in 7 years.
2010: Kobe NBA Finals MVP. Lakers NBA Champs.
2017: Kobe is retired and the Lakers have been a lottery team.
Korey Paul 2010: LeBron was still ringless and ppl never put him over Kobe.
2017: LeBron has 3 rings and is better then kobes 5 rings..? Also people don't understand nowadays that it would be dumb for a Sg to be trying to get 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Kobe and Mj are Shooting guards. Obvi a oversized small forward like LeBron gonna get more stats
Tj Great points!
LeBron never guards the primary scorer either.
LeBron > kobe bro
Tj great points my ass. Why are you diminishing LeBron's stats? You dismiss him as an "oversized small forward". Their is no one in the league of his stature that is all over the court like LeBron.
as a life long Warriors fan, Monta is my favorite Warriors. the boy had the heart of lion.
Monta was great. Loved his game.
❤ I seen his game in the bay very good player. He did carry the warriors❤💯 I was there booing too.
Most underrated player ever
I played ball against him in high school... He went to Lanier high in jackson, MS and he once dropped 72 points by halftime in high school.... I'm proud of his career. He came from the streets of Jackson and wasn't enrolled in achool, then coach billups saw him at a park shooting from half court like it was free throws. Got him enrolled in school and the rest is history
Sounds like a good career to me!
Im a Dirk fan so i had the previledge to watch this guy during those 14' and 15' season... Man he was fun to watch, like really really fun.. He was to explosive and fearless driving to the hoop..
Golden state should bring him back as a back up to Klay Thompson in the 2019/20 season
I know this is an old video but damn I miss monta I remember back when I was in 6th grade and every time they’ll played I couldn’t wait in till he got the ball
He 30 years old....his career was a success

He could be a great backup for Curry now!
Monte was one of my favorite players to watch. Always got him on any basketball game I played. Dude was a solid example of a player that successfully made the jump from high school to pro.
Went from one of the best scores in the league to a player with no job. Thats tuff man
well let's hope he's not doing Hard drugs with his money
He used to be my favorite player. When he came to Indy I was so hyped I bought his jersey that week and now some people don't even know who he is. Its truly a shame.

I remember barely watching the NBA and kept hearing about him, that's what made one of the other teams not the Lakers in California mentionable. Then I heard about this kid Stephen curry in 2012 and how he was going to be a problem from my coworker
