It's not needed. The Steam Controller has a USB wireless dongle, but you can also use a wired micro USB cable, that comes with the controller actually.

I have three controllers steam controller, that i used maybe a few times in the years of owning it. A 8bitdo controller same as yours just different colored buttons, that i use all the time. and a xbox one s controller i use for most games that are 3rd person or non shooter,

Go to Controller in Settings and hit Open on Calibration and Advanced Settings and you can change the sounds from there.
